Hi everyone! I made a new thread as we were at the end of the last one. A new thread for the new year! I changed the title as we don’t have newborns anymore!

@Gigitree Ivy has proper little paddy's when I say no or take something away from her that she's not aloud to have! Im dreading the full on tantrums if she's like this already 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

Gigitree · 28/07/2021 15:08

Me too @Busylizzie85 I think I’m going to be legit terrified of her when she’s a hormonal teen 😂😂😂

Magpie21 · 01/08/2021 05:57

Hi everyone, hope you are all well. How is everyone finding sleep? We are in between 1-2 naps at the moment, LO tends to kick up a fuss at bedtimes/naps but once she is down (and I have crept out of the room!!) she'll typically sleep through. Night wakings are still a feature of life though! Usually for a cuddle back to sleep or teething. We are only just getting top teeth through would you believe it!

mrssunshinexxx · 01/08/2021 07:47

Hi @Magpie21 my lo has been on one long afternoon nap since 9 months old and sleeps 8-8 or there abouts I was so relieved when she dropped morning nap as that's when all our groups are x

Magpie21 · 01/08/2021 08:16

@mrssunshinexxx ah yes, I remember you did just chill Mumma didn't you! Was there a period of time when your LO was a bit grumpy in the morning when you dropped that morning nap? I wish my LO would self settle but she just gets so upset when I leave the room.

Gigitree · 01/08/2021 19:10

We’re doing good thank you @Magpie21 Grace’s sleep is going well (for now 😂)
She has one short nap in the morning about 9.30-10am and then a longer nap 1.30-3.30
I’ve had to cut her morning nap down to 30mins as she was struggling to settle for her afternoon nap and getting so upset.
Over the next few months I guess her morning nap will need to her shorter and shorter and eventually she’ll settle on one nap. Gutted I love the morning nap so I can get ready in peace 😂
We’re very lucky that generally grace sleeps 7pm - 6.30am and has done since about 6.5 months we haven’t followed a strict routine or anything we just follow wake windows most of the time x

Busylizzie85 · 01/08/2021 19:30

Not sure if ivy will be ready for one nap for a while, she occasionally has one at nursery but by the time I pick her up she's so grumpy, she will only also sleep for max 45 mins so it's not long enough really to tide her over. We have a similar day @Gigitree in bed by 7 and always awake by 6:30 and a nap around 9:30-10 for 30 mins and another in the afternoon but again only for 30-40 mins.
She has only recently started to sleep through, I completely stopped breast feeding at night 4 weeks ago (already stopped during the day many months ago) and that seemed to help but then if she does wake I go in pick her up give her a dummy calm her and put her back down and now she normally settles herself with a comforter.
I'd like to say my sleep has improved but I still have a bad back from the birth 🤦🏻‍♀️

mrssunshinexxx · 01/08/2021 22:39

@Magpie21 it's was abit of a transition for probably 2/3 weeks where some days she would need a little 15 min cat nap in the morn to get her through x

Picklesbaby · 02/08/2021 07:01

Jamie has got quite good at naps he has 1hour 9.30am and now it’s school holidays I have moved his afternoon nap back he has an hour/80mins at 2.30pm. it really seems to have helped his bedtime he is normally asleep by 7.30pm anddd we have stopped feeding to sleep at bedtime I feed in the lounge then stroke his face or pat his back!We are waking every 2 hours now instead of every hour and he does the first good 2 hour stint in his cot . It is great to have some evening back 😁
no where near walking or standing alone he is very lazy lol.
His squint is quite bad these days ,The consultants have decided to wait four months to be able to check his vision properly to decide weather to go ahead with glasses or it’s a a patch he needs. Im sure he will look adorable either way🙈

Magpie21 · 02/08/2021 08:22

@Gigitree I know what you mean! I still very much need the morning nap!

@Busylizzie85 I think I have slept through once this year myself! Even if my LO sleeps through I seem to sleep through il wake up at some point.

@Picklesbaby that's nice that you are getting your evening back :)

Smiffette · 02/08/2021 19:50

I think DD is nearing needing to drop a nap as it's hard with the wake windows to always fit in an afternoon one without having a bed time really late!!

I love reading how so many of you are getting great nights sleep from your LOs , I can only dream of that sadly! I'm still getting 4/5 wake ups. It got better for a bit 2-3 but then teething, me going back to work, starting nursery and an on/off cold seem to have hit and made the last 5-6 weeks soooo hard! By Thursday I feel like falling asleep before I've set foot in the office!

Gigitree · 02/08/2021 20:36

Wow that’s really good progress with the not feeding at night/feeding to sleep @Busylizzie85 @Picklesbaby well done guys!

I really feel for you @Smiffette and @picklesbaby (and anyone else who’s struggling with this) with your frequent wake ups through the night, I wish I had some magic wand to wave for you, it must be so incredibly hard, yon guys are doing amazing!

mrssunshinexxx · 02/08/2021 21:55

Honestly you are superwoman @Smiffette I don't know how I could cope if I was still having broken sleep due to baby waking. 8 have bad pregnancy insomnia again and up for 3/4 wees but it's so much easier than feeding a baby. I'm nervous for the night feeds again keep telling myself I've done it once I can do it again!!
I can't believe I have a fully walking baby/ toddler she looks so diddy still

Gigitree · 05/08/2021 09:04

Hey all, we have a Wedding to go to in September (Covid permitting 😬) so my sister is going to have grace for us for her first overnight stay away from home 😭

Does anyone have any recommendations for a travel cot? Seems there aren’t many midrange ones, they’re either mega expensive or quite cheap, just worried the cheaper ones won’t be comfy for her.

Also if any on has any tips on making her first sleepover go smoothly please let me know x

PurpleLaws · 05/08/2021 09:56

Hi all, hope everyone is doing well.

I was wondering what type of activities you do with your little ones? The baby groups near us are all closed down for summer.

@Magpie21 Our little one still has 2 naps, she's an early riser. Then bedtime she has 2-3 wake ups, but the past few days she's not wanted milk or water so fingers crossed night feedings are ok, just wants a cuddle (or to sleep in our bed).

@Gigitree we've not taken little one away since she was 2 months but she slept totally fine in her travel cot. It was a graco one which we got "as new" (we didn't know how much we would use it so didn't want to spend a fortune).

As usual we packed everything and more, but she didn't go through the 3 jumbo packet of nappies (not surprising!).

In terms of tips, I've been to a wedding before where someone bought a baby and they had special headphones for him (as weddings can get noisy) but he could nap/sleep.

mrssunshinexxx · 05/08/2021 12:33

@PurpleLaws a couple of ours have stopped for summer but some still running
We have a music class a play group and a messy group still on then I take her to softplay swimming the park and library

PurpleLaws · 05/08/2021 14:16

@mrssunshinexxx ah that's lucky. The ones which runs over summer just seems to be further away.

What's the messy play like? We've avoided the crafts tables, sand tables etc when we've gone to the groups as little one puts EVERYTHING in her mouth... she's quick too!

The library is a 10 minute activity as my little one just like to pulls books off the shelves... not read them (whilst we're there!) but we've been to the park and soft play a fair bit but it tends to be quiet early mornings.

Also, how's the bump coming along?

Gigitree · 05/08/2021 16:11

Fab thank you @PurpleLaws will have a look at the graco ones.

In terms of activities, annoyingly most of ours have stopped too. Although we have just started a BYO baby yoga class which is great as there’s loads of toys for grace to play with and they’re fun because they’re new and not the ones she has at home, and she and the other little ones are allowed free reign to just explore while the mums do yoga!
I’ve also taken her to a few of the different soft play places around as most of them have a good sensory or under 5’s section that Grace enjoys. They are pricey to go to regularly though!
We’ve also been enjoying the water table in the back garden.

mrssunshinexxx · 05/08/2021 17:33

@PurpleLaws bump is growing nicely feeling knackered but all good thanks for asking , third trimester next week!
Erm there was a water tray, shaving foam, paint tray , dried rice this week . Yeah mine is a monkey for putting stuff in her mouth I just repeatedly say no and distract her elsewhere, she soon gets bored x

Smiffette · 13/08/2021 19:39

How's everyone doing?

Think my DD has Chicken Pox 😢 she's come up in little spots and a week ago we had a play date with some other LO and one of them has it.

Busylizzie85 · 13/08/2021 20:28

Oh bless poor baby @Smiffette but at least it's out of the way nice and early. I was kind of hoping Ivy would get it as there were a few cases at nursery but she's managed to avoid that but instead got conjunctivitis and another cold 🙄
She is proper walking now so proud of her ❤️ but this has meant another sleep regression so the lovely full nights of sleep I could have had have now been interrupted again several times with an added bonus of more night terrors 😫

mrssunshinexxx · 13/08/2021 23:12

Urgh I've got covid ladies and it's horrible

Picklesbaby · 14/08/2021 16:34

@Smiffette aw ds had them back in May ! He has a couple of scars on his chest, was fine though.

@mrssunshinexxx oh no ! Hope you and bump are okay

Anyone’s else’s baba still not standing alone or walking ? He side steps along the sofa but refuses anything else 😂
we’ve booked for our first night away from him for my birthday next month so have got to kick night weaning also!

mrssunshinexxx · 14/08/2021 17:06

It's really rough I went to get my oxygen levels checked yesterday and they are ok so far so that was a big relief @Picklesbaby night away will be nice x

Gigitree · 16/08/2021 13:31

Oh gosh @mrssunshinexxx so sorry to hear that, hope you and little one are doing ok. Did Nelly get it too? Is she coping ok?

@Picklesbaby eeeek we have our first night away from grace next month too! Looking forward to in an anxious about it at the same time.

@Smiffette we’re doing good thanks. Oh no hope your little one is coping ok with it. I’ve been in two minds about paying for the chicken pox vaccine for my little one, has anyone else done this/got any experience of this?

Is anyone else’s little one still not really saying any actual words? Grace is very chatty/vocal and will say dada mama but she doesn’t specifically say them to me or her dad so in that sense she’s still not actually saying any words. Not sure if I should be concerned or not? It’s hard because my nephew is almost exactly a year older so I find I’m often comparing grace to him in terms of where he was at at this age and he was saying some clear actual words at this age.
