Lovely pics Silk And what a birth story! Glad to see that the unexpected turn of events didn't overshadow Megan's birth. She's gorgeous!

Isn't it funny how newborn girls look like girls?

I am onto next size down in magic pants which is fine on tummy but digging into thighs a bit

The community midwife did comment on how much my uterus had contracted when she came on friday. Whether that is due to being able to successfully breastfeed this time, or because of magic pants, I don't know.

LOM - I would suggest getting a couple of your normal pre-preg size and a couple a size bigger. That was ok for me anyway - but I guess it depends on how big your bump gets.

Sara seems to have settled down a bit since I last wrote. She has kept me up until 3am a few nights but now she's being a bit more reasonable. She feeds every 3 hours during the day and can go 4.5-5 hours at night. Heaven knows if it will last.

Can I ask a quick question? At what point is it ok to start using nappy wipes? I used cotton wool and water for ages with DS because he was prem but not sure when to stop with a full termer.

Iris and anyone else with windy babies - have you tried fennel seeds? My DS was very difficult to burp and someone told me about fennel seeds. If you are BFing, you drink fennel tea once or twice a day to pass it on to baby. If you are FFing, you add 2-3 fennel seeds to the boiling water you make up the formula with (make sure you take them out before feeding baby!). It certainly worked with DS - he would come out with the loudest burps as a result. My SIL used to live in Germany and she told me it is common practise over there.

Am off to mum's today for a week as DH going back to work tomorrow I've gotten used to having him around.

I'm off to catch up on some zzzs before Sara wakes up. Need to catch up on the other thread at some point as well!

Gosh - what an airhead.

I meant to congartulate CHOC on not letting birth problems overshadow Rebecca's birth!

Sorry.

It's coz I was looking at pics of Megan and she confused me. I blame the baby.

Loopy - love the sheery hour idea but it has a small flaw....if I put wine there I'd just do circuits of the table
Not a bad night last night though - Elliot was power feeding & windy until 11 then only woke twice (2ish and 6.30) I'll have more of this thankyou

silkcushion - you sound like a lovely stepmum. I bet DSD will look back and really appreciate how you support her relationship with her dad

Choudru - thanks for the fennel seed tip I imagine that wet wipes are suitable from birth if they're sensitive ones (Boots?) I'm still on cotton wool & water & use homemade stuff on DS (based on chammomile tea) so we'll progress onto that at some point.
I had the opposite problem to you with my magic pants (too big round the thighs/bum!) Hope you have a good pampering at your mums this week - enjoy!!!

Berrybliss - CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! saw your q on the other thread but only time for 1 post- so in response.... YES wear a bra at night or you'll soak everything when you leak! (it'll also give you a bit of extra support to limit the "heading south" effect of having such big boobs)

Hello all, sorry to post with sad news but I just wanted to let you all know that sadly my mum died in a car accident on 10th Nov, 8 days after Amelia was born. It's obviously been a horrible horirble shock and the last week has been pretty horrendous but I think I'm getting there slowly. She was a very young 71 and was crashed into by a 17 year old who may have been answering his phone at the time - that's not certain yet, there will be an inquest but it may take up to a year to happen. Our consolation is that she was unconscious instantly, the first person on the scene was a retired nurse who actually knew my mum and she said she was with her till she died (within 15 minutes) and she was completley unconscious, no sounds or signs of pain at all.

Dh has been a fantastic support. My dr told me not to fly back to UK as I was still in hospital with quite a bad infection in the caesarian wound. It's been an unbelievable rollercoaster couple of weeks but Amelia is ahuge comfort though I am angry her granny has been taken away from her (and her 7 cousins). My family are videoing the funeral so I get to see and hear it. I think there will be some very hard days ahead but I am determined to get through and be the best mum I can be for my little girl, despite the circumstances.

I haven't really caught up with all the births but hope you are all well and good luck to those about to have their babies.

Anna sweetheart I am so sorry, and I know it may not help, but I have been there. My mum died suddenly and unexpectedly when DD1 was 2 weeks old. She was 47. I too went through the rollercoaster you are describing and used Jessica as comfort.

If you need to talk, please mail me - [email protected]

Thinking of you and praying for you all xxx

oh Anna I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a parent is hideous at any time (I lost my dad last year) but when you're so full of hormones too it must be doubly hard. Thinking of you and yours xx

I'm too zonked to reply to everyone's posts but I wanted to say hello. Anna, I am so so sorry for your loss. My mum is being such a support at the moment and I can't even begin to imagine how you feel. Lots of hugs to you...

It's hard to move onto baby things after hearing news like that but I'll try anyway. Rebecca will be a week old tomorrow. She is gorgeous and doesn't cry much yet - guess that's to come. We went out for the first time today - to Borders and Starbucks for coffee and cookie. Rebecca slept through the rainy experience.

The section doesn't seem to be hindering me that much - I've not had much pain, etc. We're inundated with visitors though and I'm spaced out! I'm still dazed I think.

Hugs to everyone and especially Anna!

IRIS - Was wondering if I could pick your brains as I believe you know about these things.

I've got some arnica tabs 30c. The directions say to take 2 four times a day and every two hours for the first six doses.

Can you advise if this is appropriate to aid recovery after labour and how long should I keep taking them for?

Thanks, you are a star. I'll save you some donuts

Just back from the creche run (well, walk actually) to drop off DS1. I feel so chuffed I was organised enough (and awake enough!) to manage without any hitches on my own (was showered & dressed by 7 and even managed to get some mascara on before I went too!) Felt decidedly yummy rather than scummy mummyish for a change (though ever so slightly considering myself a saddo for getting pleased with myself over something millions of mums do every day - despite the fact it was my first day having to get out early with 2 - must stop overanalysing....)

Choc - Rebecca is just looverly awwww - I want another one

Littleoldme - donuts? someone mention donuts ???? (this BF has me constantly eating - it's great!) The directions on your arnica are similar to what my homeopath told me (TBH I don't think it makes that much difference - a few doses here or there). She advised me to take the arnica four times during the first 24 hrs after birth then twice a day for a further 2/3 days depending on how bruised everything was. (I only took mine for the first day as I forgot afterwards - I wasn't very bruised though anyway) I healed fine (apart from forgetting pelvic floors - all ok now though ..phew!) HTH

off to clean whilst DS1's out Hope everyone else's ok x

Oooh this thread is slow... is it cos we're all bleary eyed with newborn sleep deprivation?

Iris, you sound like you're doing fab!

I am fine.. Rebecca slept a lot last night, good little girl. She is alert most of the time which may bode badly for the future. She is gorgeous though... and we are still smitten...

My parents in law are coming today - mil is apt to criticise - she spent the last weeks of my pregnancy predicting that Rebecca would be a heifer with a huge head - R was 6 pounds 13 even at 2 weeks late and is far from huge. Hmm... wish me luck...

off to eat breakfast and take lo on her first trip to Tesco Extra. Cookies are calling!

Good luck everyone else and look forward to seeing you all over here.

Loopy - You've got it spot on

Choc - doing fab?! thanks Glad it comes across that way but I'm doing a swan I think (looking serene above but legs going ten to the dozen below) I'm finding it hard in fits and starts. I had a 5hr straight run of sleep last night but prior to that had 2 nights of less than 4hrs broken sleep each which was a nightmare. I felt sick with exhaustion last night at 7.30!! I'm only grateful that BF is going really well and that Elliot is generally happy to be in his carry cot whilst I see to his rather more demanding big brother(feeling guilty already about the disparity of attention )
Hope the parents in law visit wan't too horrible. I've got my MIL (and DSS2, who lives with her - strange family dynamic, I wont bore you) over for lunch and to meet Elliot on Sunday (he's 4 weeks and she's not been arsed to come over yet - only an hour away grrr )

SparklyGothKat - how's Callum doing hon?

off to eat more before Elliot wakes up for his feedathon and windy time (nearly dropped pizza on his head earlier - thank goodness for muslins )
