ooh I'm now allowed on the post natal thread. Hello all.

Megan Juliet arrived on her due date - 7th Nov and weighed in at 7lb 9oz (smaller than anticipated). She is a little cutie

We've been kept in hospital cos she had jaundice and just seems unable to breastfeed. Tbh it seems likely she ate/drank nothing for the first 24/36 hours.
Am currently feeding expressed milk in the day and formula at night.

As a new mummy I can't believe how much I adore her. I feel like crying cos she's so lovely. (hmm maybe a bit hormonal too)

Anyway, trying to upload my pictures btu I think they are a bit too big and it isn't working yet.

On the subject of weight. I put on just over 2 stone. 1 has gone but the rest of me is still definitely there and wobbling.

iris66 · 13/11/2007 19:32

Huge congratulations silkcushion I know just what you mean about the hormonal happy crying, or sad crying...or just crying because there's a y in the month
(still very wobbly here too so you're in good company )

Megan's a lovely name btw. Sorry they've kept you in though. Any idea for how long or is it just until she's feeding well.
Elliot just slept for the first 24/36 hrs too and had to be woken to feed. He wants feeding every 2/3 hours now though so there's obviously nothing wrong. Maybe she'll get with the program once she's had a rest

LOL @ Loopy and RG

Conrgatulations from me as well Silk - Megan is a gorgeous name. Can't wait to see the photos.

I also KWYM about wanting to cry. Luckily I have only had happy hormones so far - although I remember with DS I used to cry for no reason at all during the first week or 2. Looking back, it was the 'baby blues', but I didn't know that at the time and was very confused indeed.

Very wobbly here as well but have been wearing the waist clinchers I bought. I don't know if it's my imagination but I really do think they are working. I swear my stomach is shrinking faster than it did with DS.

How has everyone been with milk coming in? Mine came in yesterday but is better today due to expressing with electric pump and getting Sara to feed off me often. Had the whole Dolly Parton thing going on yesterday.

Silk - I don't think babies really need much milk in their first day or two. They just get a bit of colostrum for their immune system. I think the point of them suckling in the first days is more to stimulate your breasts rather than give them very much milk.

Iris - you sound like you have gotten into a nice little feeding routine already About co-sleeping - I hear you! I did it with DS once I realised it meant he slept much better. So exactly like you, it seemed like the natural thing to do now. Didn't admit it to the community midwife though

Clu - it sounds like your LO has day and night mixed up. One of my friends is going through the same. Apparently it's good to expose baby to lots of sunlight during the day and keep night feeds very low key (only change nappies if you have to, keep lights low or off etc). Don't know if any of that works though.

Feeling very pampered at the mo. MIL is being an angel (I NEVER thought I would be saying that!). She is staying for 2 weeks and does all the cooking, helps DH look after 2.5 year old DS, looks after DH, helps me bathe Sara and changes her nappies etc. Not bad eh?

Off to wake Sara up for a feed now - my right boob is full and aching.

Sparkly - congrats on Callum's weight gain - you're obviously doing something right!

Congrats Silk.

Agree with choudru re the milk- dd2 didn't really drink much for the first day and a half

I take it that everything's settled down for you now then Pixie. I'm so pleased

Choudru - at your MIL. My mum came for a week and was great for keeping DS amused but doesn't really do nappies
I think I went down quicker with the magic pants too (am back in all my old clothes)but still have a bit of a problem with thinking I'm going to lose my bladder by the end of the day (sorry if TMI), even though my pelvic floor seems to be better - I'm quietly thinking I may have to speak to the Dr before my 6week check just to put my mind at rest that it isn't some kind of prolapse

How's everyone doing who are managing 2 children? DS1 keeps waking at night with his cold and DH ended up in with him at 4 this morning. Elliot kept snuffling, sneezing & gaging on snot half the night (& not really feeding) so I feel pretty pooped today. DH goes back to work next week and I've no idea how I'm going to get anything done - eek!
Thank goodness the happy hormones are still about though

Iris - we are home now thankfully. The lack of feeding was a problem because she had jaundice. They said she needed fluids to flush it through as well as being on a phototherapy bed.

The hospital made the decision to give her formula. I didn't mind what they did as long as she got better. They were still reluctant to let us go home before breastfeeding was established. However, we've got an electric pump and she is having expressed milk in the day and formula at night.

It all seems to be working well so far. Although the feeling once the milk came in was a revelation. I wake in the morning with boobs that feel like they are made of lead. Expressing is actually becoming a pleasure.

Choudru - you have inspired me to try on my m and s girdley knicker thingies. I hadn't even unpacked them. Off upstairs to struggle my way into them

Swyn is the same. She sleeps all day but is then awake all night. Have no idea how to keep her awake during the day so that her body clock readjusts

Unlike Rg, I am a stalker - Mwahh ha ha ha

Hello ladies and your lovely bundles. So overall it seems like the big pants are a good plan. What would you reckon for sizing. I've put on 3 1/2 stone , with the help of my freinds Ben and Jerry of course. I was a 12-14 before so reckon I should do a 16 and an 18 ?

Give your DCs a great big cuddle from me.

Hi there RGPargy and Littleoldme (you scary stalkers you! )- you'll be here soon enough with your bundles but do carry on in the meantime - just no prodding them awake eh!

silkcushion - lol at the wind Yes it's all your internal organs moving back to their original positions after being squashed so we get a good bowel massage, and, in consequence, loads of wind (I'm still suffering a bit 3 weeks on!!!!)

Pixiefish - I think Choudru mentioned earlier but getting them out in natural light for a couple of hours a day helps to reset their bodyclocks (it activates the pineal gland) though it does take a while. I took Elliot out for a huge walk earlier whilst DS1 was sleeping (DH was with him - not home alone lol) and he slept all the way through then woke up as soon as we got back. Should have just plonked him in the garden and had a rest I think

Took Elliot to be weighed & for the HV to do a quick check on his tummy (his cord stump's still a bit sticky, but apparently it's normal)and he's 9lb 8oz already that's 1lb in 10 days! No wonder he's growing out of all his newborn stuff! Glad I've got the 3mth size at the ready

Vent alert - ignore if feeling crappy!

the 9-12pm colicky crying seems to be extending to a 7-12 session. I am asking myself why Oh why, oh why, oh why (stupid question Iris - you have a newborn - don't whinge, they all do this.....) I look like shite and I'm sure I've grown about 30% more grey hairs than I had before and desparately need to dye my hair to feel normal and the house is a shit tip and DH doesn't seem to notice enough to do anything (good thing/bad thing ). I am so dreading next week when he goes back to work I'm sure it'll just work out though (note to self - get neighbour to agree to take DS1 to creche in times of morning incapacitating manicness ) How long will it be before i feel like I can cope with two under 2????????

Vent over - normal service will be resumed shortly...brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr........................

Hi all Hope everyone and their new bundles are doing fabbily in a fug of happy hormones off to feed again (just call me Daisy )

Hi all

typing with one hand cos Rebecca won't stay asleep in her Moses basket... congrats Silk and Choudru!

thanks for the congratulations on the a/n thread!

Here is my birth story... I went to be induced at 41+6 on Tuesday. I was examined first and cervix was nearly there - they said they could just about have broken my waters but preferred to use prostin first. So I had the pessary inserted at 3.15 pm and was monitored for an hour (all fine) then allowed to go wandering around the hospital (or stay put, but no way was I doing that!!!) so I did. As I was walking my back started to ache and period cramps came on; I kept marching until I needed pain relief so returned to the induction suite and got a birthing ball and bounced, then had a bath. Didnt think I was in labour cos it hurt but not that badly... was examined and was 4cm, and ggiven gas and air, and kept going, but there was a problem with the foetal heart rate. A team of consultants arrived (well, three) and announced that 'we have to deliver the baby now', then there was a really mad dash to theatre in true Holby City style where the poor woman about to have a section was made to leave so they could get Rebecca out instead. When she arrived she yelled; I was si relieved!! Consultant in charge explained to me then that the heart rate had indicated that the baby had been in serious danger and that I had been about to go under general anaesthetic but they had maaged with the spinal. Turns out Rebecca had the cord wrapped tightly twice around her neck... afterwards the team who had done the work sat with me and told me they had been extremely worried about timing but that there was nothing whatsoever wrong with Rebecca apart from the cord.
It was far from the originally imagined water birth but it was still magic. Rebecca is beautiful and precious and the team who delivered her were fantastic.

Now... struggling a lot with bfeeding and sleepless nights (literally) but I have my gorgeous little girl. DH is so smitten too....

Hugs to all and LOM/RG you'll be here soon!

Congratulations Choc! sounds like you had a right time of it though I'm so pleased you and Rebecca are fine now Make sure you just chill for the mo and get DH to wait on you with plenty to eat & drink to help with the sleeplessness

Elliot's full of cold still and had another windy night. He's still feeding well though, thankfully, and utterly edible. We're off out to Mothercare later to buy the boys some new clothes (as if we haven't got enough )

Hi ladies!

Choc - lovely story, even if it didn't quite go according to plan.

Iris - ah, the good old "Arsenic Hour", eh? I remember that very well with DS. I think it lasted continuously for six months. Erk!! You'll be fine tho, it'll soon pass, dont worry.

Big hugs to all you lovely mummies and your gorgeous bundles!

blimey choc sounds a bit scarey but has all worked out really well. Glad Rebecca is ok and you were out of hospital pretty quickly.

Iris - i think yr allowed to have a ranting moment every so often when you have 2 tiddly ones to look after and who cares is yr house is a shithole? so is mine I had a crap night too - Megan just didn't settle.

DSd is here at the mo and seeing her little sis for the first time. she is pleased and wants to cuddle her lots but i think she is definitely feeling insecure about her relationship with her daddy. we're trying to make a fuss of her and give her quality time with her dada alone. not easy with a newborn in the house.

and finally - pictures should now be on profile page
