fab fab fab SGK (not about the thrush obv) WELL DONE CALLUM!

THere was me thinking 10oz in 10 days was good.... and Callum beats us with 10oz in 7 days!!!

AchristmasRGPARGYcarol · 21/12/2007 17:35

AFternoon everyone! Had a much better night last night. Ellie slept from about midnight til 3ish, then went back down at gone 4am, but woke me at 7am. She only wanted to cuddle tho and was sparko as soon as i picked her up so i put her back down and she let me have another hour's sleep. All in all i feel quite refreshed compared to yesterday!

A question for you all. When you're feeding in the middle of the night, do you change nappies too or do you just make as less fuss as possible and try and keep it all sleepy etc? I do change her nappy but only because i would hate for her to get sore.

Loopy - yeah that's a good idea re the dummy but i'm still reluctant to try it. I might wait til she's a bit older, by which time she might have grown out of the gripes anyway!

Silk - Saved by the HV then, eh?!

Sparkly - sorry Callum has thrush. Brilliant news on the weight gain tho!!! How fantastic!!

LK - sounds like your DS is being cheeky re the bedtime thing.

Choc - sympathies re the sleepless nights. Deffo try the bath before bed thing and see if that helps. Oh and avoid onions if you're eating them!! Also, have you tried Infacol?

DJarm - Daniel sounds like he had a great sleep and it must have made him grow loads after putting on all that weight!!! Clever boy! Isn't projectile vomiting a sign of reflux??

LOM - Thomas is BEAUTIFUL!!!! So gorgeous! Mascara, eh?!!! Blimey!! I think i've forgotten how to actually apply the stuff!

Lizzie - i do have a sling but i'm not sure that i like it. So far i have found it a bit difficult to put DD into and it doesn't feel totally secure. Perhaps i would be better with a carrier rather than a sling.....

AchristmasRGPARGYcarol · 21/12/2007 17:36

oh and i'm talking about just wet nappies in the middle of the night, obviously not pooey ones!!

DanJARMouse · 21/12/2007 18:13

I try to avoid changing nappies in the night if possible, unless very wet or poopy.

Tend to change at the 11pm feed and then again at 6ish.

The nights I change his nappy in the middle of the night are the nights he is hard to settle back to sleep!

Re vomit and reflux - no idea! Jessica was my pukey baby but we put it down to the formula because as soon as we switched her at 6mnths to the follow on stuff, the vomiting stopped! But Jessica was also on infant gaviscon for reflux!

Will ask HV next time I see her, which probably wont be for 2 weeks because Ill be damned if Im taking him next friday with it being Christmas period - I reckon everyone will take their LO's next week to escape the mayhem of post christmas!

LK2boyzma · 21/12/2007 18:32

RG: I tend to change his nappy at night if it needs changing and that's for the same reason as you, worrying about him getting sore.

LizzieO: I was actually thinking of getting a baby carrier because some times Tyler just needs rocking and movement than feeding and my arms really get painful and tired, worse at night!

SGK: well done to you and Callum fo ra job well done, re weight gain.

LOM: Well done to you for the energy to look 'mascararized' after 9 days of giving birth. My hair needs attention but no energy at the mo. Send me some vibes!
Kinda enjoying the quiet moment, Tyler has been asleep since 5pm.

sparklygothkat · 21/12/2007 19:11

i only change callum if i have to, ie. very wet, or leaked. we use washables and have had no problems with nappyrash.

Think i'll not bother with middle of the night bum changes then, unless of course she's pooed.

Loopy - i have a ring sling. Think i'll take another look at the instruction CD, in case i'm not doing it right. It just feels like she will roll out of it if i dont hold her.

AchristmasRGPARGYcarol · 21/12/2007 19:58

Sorry, that should have been Freedom Ring Sling.

ChrIRIStmasfairybigpants · 21/12/2007 20:21

Hi all - can we cancel Christmaas [hopeful emoticon] I'm just not ready!
I tried to catch up but am relying on memory I'm afraid. I've had a really manic day trying to cook/clean/receive Tesco Xmas delivery and both boys have been grizzly all day - coming down with colds. I think my busyness has affected my milk supply - Elliot's been after me every 1/2 hour it seems and DS1 fell on him and headbutted him earlierso I've been a bit twitchy over him. Also, I just discovered why I vowed not to buy a turkey crown again - no giblets for gravy! Have started a thread in the hope I can find some decent shop bought stuff Am I alone in being totally disorganised?????

Sparkly - fab news about Callums weight gain you must be thrilled.

RGPargy - I don't bother changing Elliot between 11-6 (he tends to explode around 9am anyway so the 6am is usually just wet - I give him a good airing each day to dry his skin properly & help prevent the hateful nappy rash - he loves it - though usually does a fireman's hose impression

Fiona - I'll second the Tommee Tippee breast pads as fab. Boots night time ones are really good too. I have some washable ones but they're not up to containing my leakage at the mo

Littleoldme - well done on the trip out

Loopy - Elliot's getting a small cuddly toy (but only so that DS1 can open it for him )I feel guilty but a) he won't know, b) we can't afford it, and c) I can't justify buying even more things that'll only get used for a few months it's difficult isn't.
got to go Elliot calls(every time I try to write a post.....
take care all

ChocolateHobnob · 21/12/2007 20:48

Hi all

Congrats Callum! clever boy.

Re the nappy changes, I do change DD at night but mainly because she tends to wake herself up doing a mega poo! I change her before I feed her in the hope that feeding her will help her nod off (it doesn't work!).

If anyone wants a sling, I have a Hugabub and it's fab. I also have a Baby Bjorn style one but DD is less keen on that one.

Had a friend over for lunch and then we took Rebecca out to get her some fresh air - we went shopping and I got a couple more presents and we had a coffee. She did go to sleep for a while... Now she is exhausted, has had her bath and feed and DH is stroking her in the beginning of our nightly get-DD-to-sleep ritual. Tomorrow we're going to see some friends at the coast who have 2 gorgeous little boys dying to meet Rebecca. And I need to do Tesco for Christmas food - we're at my parents for some meals but not all. I'm going to cheat and just buy loads of cheeses, breads, cured meats, salad stuff, and live off that for the other meals.

Re the bath suggestion, we do that already but she doesnt take the hint! She really doesnt seem to need much sleep - she's 5 weeks and she has never slept more than 12 hours in a 24 hour period. That occasion was a miracle! Mainly she sleeps between 7 and 10. She very rarely cries though and is very contented. I just have to assume she doesnt need sleep - it seems I didnt as a baby! Trouble is I do now!!!

Oh well. Have a good night all!

fiona76 · 21/12/2007 22:04

Evening all!

I don't change DD at night unless I hear her poo during feed or she feels wet. She doesn't seem bothered and also seems to have a mega poo after 7 when she is 'up' for the day. I must give her some more 'no nappy' time as she loves it but I seem to be rushing somewhere the whole time in the last few days.

My night out was fab and I only got home after midnight so felt very devilish. DD didn't wake until after I got home but lovely DH feed her EBM from bottle which she took without hesitation. Clever baby!! I expressed off my toxic milk as I had a few drinks and BF her at 5am when she next got up she didn't seem to mind the change.

RG -well done for not using dummy I swore I wouldn't but was shoving it in after a week. She doesn't have nipple confusion so all ok.

Must try those other breast pads as I have boots washables and they don't cut the mustard at night and I leak all over the place. Some nights i have to put towel under me to sop it up. Its horrible and sticky. I have to wash jammies and bra constantly.

AchristmasRGPARGYcarol · 21/12/2007 22:28

Iris - yes we can indeed cancel Xmas!!! We finally have a tree up but it's not been decorated yet lol. It's just standing there looking bare and pathetic.

Sorry that you've had a tough day with the boys. at DS1 falling onto Elliot!!! Poor little thing lol.

The lack of giblets is exactly the reason why i DO buy turkey crowns!! That and the fact that it's only me and DS that will be eating it! No point buying a whole bird for me and DS when neither of us eat anything other than breast meat.

Glad i'm not the only one that doesn't want to change babies bums at 3am. I really must give Ellie some bum-air time tho. That's one thing i dont do because this house is bloody cold. I'll try and warm up one room first so she can have a kick about on her changing mat.

Loopy - i dont think we're buying anything for Ellie for Christmas either. I did want to get her a cot mobile for when she's in her own room so maybe we'll do that instead. There's really no point in buying her anything when she wont give a flying fig about Christmas anyway, seeing as she'll only be 3 weeks old!

Choc - I do like the look of the hugabub. Wish i'd chosen more carefully now. Still, i'm going to look at the instruction CD and see what i'm doing wrong before i decide to buy a hugabub. Sorry Rebecca doesn't need much sleep!!!

Fiona - glad you enjoyed your night out. I think (re dummies) that if i were bottle feeding she'd have had a dummy by now but i'm so determined to breastfeed that i'm terrified of screwing it up in any way at all so i'll be doing my best not to use one. However i did notice tonight that Ellie just wanted to comfort suck on me while she was going through a screamy patch.

So what's the sitch on having a drink or two whilst BF?? Am i right in thinking that it's ok to have a glass of wine or two whilst BF? Obviously if i was going out to get slaughterd it would be a different matter. Hope it's ok, anyway!!

So i think that Ellie might also have a bit of reflux. I know i shouldn't have, but i've googled the symptoms and it seems that she does have some of the symptoms, particularly frequent hiccups and a little cough. She also wakes instantly in the evening if i lay her back down straight after a feed and an attempt at winding her. One suggestion is to keep babies upright for about 20-30 minutes after each feed but obviously that might not always be practical so i might try the slightly raised mattress thing instead, particularly in the evenings!

Right, i'm off to put some lights on the tree. Have a nice sleep everyone!

silkcushion · 21/12/2007 22:43

rg - Megan has been like a different baby since raising her mattress. With hindsight it was a classic symptom - after putting her down she'd be desperately tired and try to go to sleep but wake crying within minutes.

Deffo try the mattress thing. I hope it works.

Choc - another idea. Does Rebecca sleep after 5pm (even a little snooze) if so try not to let her until after her bath. Hmm am now wonderig whether your baby is called rebecca. Tired - must go to bed.

ChocolateHobnob · 22/12/2007 03:19

Up with baby insomniac...

Silk, Rebecca doesnt sleep after 5, no. But she actually was asleep by 9 tonight! result!

RG, I have a glass of wine...

and Fiona, am of your night out! Did Anabel go from 7 to after midnight without a feed?

Little lady fighting sleep - come on sleep DD!!!

ChrIRIStmasfairybigpants · 22/12/2007 06:56

Choc - hope you got some more sleep (that 3-4am slot is a killer isn't it - Elliot was up 2.30-3ish and again at 5.30 for a feed. Just sat pumping at the mo. All that extra bf yesterday has got me like medicine balls this morning

RGPargy - DS1 had a books under the head end his cot for about 18mths (helped with colds as well as wind) You can buy special "cot feet" but we just used a couple of paperbacks. We'll do the same for Elliot. Re drinking - I tend to run the rule that if I'm ok to drive I'm ok to BF (I reckon I did more damage the other day eating a homemade "double lentil and every fart inducing veg you can think of" soup. Poor kid didn't know which end he was going to erupt from next )

DanJARMouse · 22/12/2007 08:30

morning all (i say very frostily!)

Daniel had a bottle of EBM at 11pm last night, woke at 3am on the dot, fed, dozed, wanted fed again, picked him up to purp him and he threw up all over me

Was gone 5am before he settled again.... so am knackered. Was hoping to be at my dads by now! OOOOPS

Ah well, have a good day all xxx

AchristmasRGPARGYcarol · 22/12/2007 10:35

Morning all

Well i slightly raised the mattress last night by putting a folded little blanket under it. Although Ellie did wake up a couple of more times than normal, she didn't scream the place down. Saying that, i didn't take her into her room to be fed, but just sat on the bed in the dark feeding her to keep her calm, so i'm not sure which one would have helped lol. Also, DP held her against his chest for a good 20 minutes too, which might also have helped. Anyway, i'm glad she didn't scream the place down. She just seemed to niggle a bit instead, which i can deal with a few times in the night. The screaming goes right through my ears and head when it's 3am!!!!

Choc - sorry you were up with your insomniac baby!! Hope you've managed to get some rest now.

Iris - Agree with you re the 3-4am slot! It's just that middle of the night feeling that's the killer isn't it?! Interesting re the books under the mattress. How thick were the books??!! Silly question i know, but dont know whether to try the Yellow Pages or something alot smaller

DJarm - You poor thing! Being thrown up on isn't pleasant at the best of times, let alone at 3am!! Hope you got some more rest too.

I'm going to take a walk up the road to PC World and Toys R Us in a bit for some fresh air and last minute pressies.

Have a nice day everyone!

Loopy - Thanx for the advice and for the link!! I will try again and see what happens i think.

sparklygothkat · 22/12/2007 12:52

HI all, Callum slept again from 12-6am, means that my boobs are very full in the morning tho as we are missing the 3am feed.

OP posts:
DanJARMouse · 22/12/2007 12:54

Well Done Callum!!!

Daniel seems to have got into the routine of 11pm and 3am and then 7ish which is fab, but my boobs are leaking all over the shop!

The 11pm feed tends to be EBM - last night Daniel took 4.5oz!!

fiona76 · 22/12/2007 13:14

Choc- Yes DD has been sleeping from when we put her to bed usually between 7 and 8 until 2am sometimes a little earlier or later. She is a legend and I know I'm very lucky and that it might not last.
Last night she was in bed at 7.30 woke at 9pm for a top up feed then woke at 2am and fed for 20mins when straight back to sleep, woke at 6.30am for 20min fed went straight back to sleep then woke at 9.30am. I feel like a new woman after that sleep in.

Still just been for a hideous last shop in sainsburys and she screamed the place down so you can't have it all.

We haven't got anything for DD for christmas but my mum left her some presents under the tree so she won't be totally neglected.

AchristmasRGPARGYcarol · 22/12/2007 15:55

Loopy - ooooh under the cot feet!!! I had visions of the poor DCs having to sleep on top of books - Princess and the Pea springs to mind!!

I've had another brief go with the sling when DD was asleep and with your positioning tips, she did seem to feel better and more secure in the ring sling. However i think i still need some practice and when i get a minute, i'll dig out the instruction CD.

Sparkly - Well done Callum!!

DJarm - how funny! Ellie seems to be on a similar feeding patter. Normally she's 11pm, 3am, 6am.

Fiona - Cant remember if you've said, but do you put DD into her own cot when you put her to bed?

LizzieO · 22/12/2007 16:14

Hi all feeling cream crackered today, DH went off on works night at 18.00pm yesterday, and got back in at 11.30 today so haven;t really had two mins to myself

SGK - well done with Callum, you've really nurtured the little fella well

Fiona - i'm very envious. Ollie is so restless and fussy between 18.00 and 22.00 / 23.00. Last night he wouldn't settle till midnight, my mate had come over to keep me company and we ordered curry but i ended up in my room most of thenight trying to settle ollie. don't know what to do really, if we put him up in his moses basket he falls asleep for 30mins then wakes crying which turns into screaming if we don't go and get him out, this pattern continues till aroind 22.00/ 23.00. Having said that he does nap during the day, and also usually sleeps till his 4.00 feed, then goes again till 7.00ish. I suppose you can't have everything can you.

RG - i usually have a glass of wine of an evening, sometimes even two if its been a hard day. I am wondering tho' if i need to cut down my caffeine intake even more, i have around 3 cups of tea and two coffee during the day, i'm wondering if thats what unsettles Ollie during the evening

hope you all have a silent night
