Got a terrible tummy ache today - thought it was afterpains but Ellie is 9 days old today so thought it might be a bit late to suddenly be getting them. Also have the shivers - i'm freezing!! I hope it's not an infection. I dont want to end up in hospital - i just cant give up BF now!!!!! It'd kill me!!!!

LK2boyzma · 14/12/2007 14:30

RG: Here is hoping it will not come to that (you going to hospital).I still had a bit of after pains when Tyler was ten days old, so hopefully it will go away soon.
I am with you on the BF thing!

Hi all - no internet connection for a 24hrs and I was climbing the wall RGPargy - one of the few joys of parenthood eh - delighting in your child's poo... quantity/colour/texture/quality etc Really pleased Ellie's sorted now.silkcushion - sorry you're having a hard time . Have you tried keeping on feeding her all evening? (sorry if it's been suggested before). We've had a few days where Elliot just screams (doesn't seem to be wind either) and the only thing that has worked has been to swaddle him up and keep him feeding through it until he falls asleep. I do feel for you. DS1 was a hideous sleeper. Make sure you get some time for yourself though (even 1/2 hour going for a walk on your own)- it'll really help your sanity Not much to report here. Elliot's sleep patterns are still pretty erratic and he's quite snuffly at the mo, which is affecting his feeding a bit, but he's generally doing fine and I had my repeat GTT yesterday (had to be out of the house with Elliot by 7.30 !)and my sugar levels were normal (yay!!)Had a bit of a fright yesterday afternoon when DS1 tried to gouge Elliot's eye out when we were in the supermarket!!! We'd put them in a toddler/baby trolley and I'd only turned my back for a moment (When is it that we get fitted with eyes in the back of our heads???)Going to put a few decorations up now(DS1 will only trash them & it's too much hassle to try to keep him off things within reach, so no tree/candles this year )

ChrIRIStmasfairybigpants · 14/12/2007 14:34

don't quite know what happened to my punctuation and paragraph there ?? sorry!

Pixiefish · 14/12/2007 15:34

I keep losing the thread.
Swyn and I are using a feeding supplementer twice a day now. Not as bad as I thought but I can't express enough for it so am having to use formula. It's the alst resort as she was still only putting an ounce or two a week on so we are very desperate that she startes gaining.
My milk is still not in properly so hopefully using the supplementer and the increased dompreidone will help.

I am so shocked that this has happened to me this time. I had a total abundance of milk with dd1 and I just can't understand what's gone wrong this time.

I have been very upset about it and very stressed that Swyn isn't putting on weight, then panicking and trying to feed her all the time which has probably added to our problems.

Becasue I'm using this supplememter twice a day now I am starting to relax a little and hopefully Swyn will gain some weight. I'm only giving her 30 and 40ml of formula, one in the morning and one in the evening but she put on 4 1/2 oz from Monday to Thursday. I really hope we're turning a corner now.

DanJARMouse · 14/12/2007 15:35

Afternoon all.

Well things are settling down a little, im over my BF crisis for now, and can i just say, the Avent Isis pump is magical! Havent tried to give a bottle yet, but just to take the pressure off my boobs is awesome!

Bugger... being called for.... be bck later!

jetgirl · 14/12/2007 16:15

Back again, I can finish the things I was going to say!

choudru - (and any others who might be interested) you can download the child benefit forms and fill them in online, though you still have to print them off and post them. It seems to get sorted pretty quickly though as we've already received William's first payment. Register birth asap as they will only backdate pay to date of registration, not date of birth. Nurseries often often a small discount if you have more than one child there, hope that helps!

Pixie - hope Swyn's weight gain improves soon, and that you feel better about it too xx

JARM - I had the Avent Isis last time round and was trying to decide whther to go for it again or try a different one, but I think I'll stick with what I know.

RG - I had pains about a week ago when William was two weeks old. I think it was the uterus doing one last contraction so I can fit into my jeans again - like an early Christmas present! They were painful, but only lasted the day, so hopefully it is just afterpains you're suffering.

iris - I'm so impressed you were up and out by 7.30!

My visitor brought a bottle of champagne for me and DH! WOuld open it tonight but DH is going to his office Christmas party and staying the night at the hotel. Am a bit nervous about having 2 kids by myself for the evening, especially when I have to put DD to bed - that's normally DH's job - but I'm sure I'll get through it. The worst bit will be having to get out of bed to get William for his night-time feeds - that's also DH's job!

Going to squeeze in a nap while William is asleep and before DD is home from nursery!

RGPargy · 14/12/2007 17:12

well i'm now feeling quite feverish and sleepy. Ellie's zonked out too - i hope i've not passed anything on to her!

I could really do with some help from DP atm but of course he's keeping out of the way.

So bloody cold! My brother is coming round at 6.30 and i'm not gonna be great at entertaining!

Pixiefish · 14/12/2007 17:30

Hugs RG. Ive also been freezing cold and with the shivers for the last few weeks but think that's because my haemaglobin is so blinking low

DanJARMouse · 14/12/2007 17:38

RG = it isnt mastitis is it? Are your boobs ok? Red? Swollen? Lumpy?

Take care of yourslef sweetheart xxx

RGPargy · 14/12/2007 18:41

it might be. how do i deal with it?

RGPargy · 14/12/2007 18:42

and what caused it?

Pixiefish · 14/12/2007 18:47

you'd know if you had mastitis. yoiu'd have sore boobs and redness

ChrIRIStmasfairybigpants · 14/12/2007 18:47

RGPargy - if it's come on all of a sudden and you feel feverish/achey joints/fluey it could well be mastitis - check for red/hot patches on your boobs (as JARM said) and if it is, take some paracetamol and get into a hot bath and massage them loads pronto to help shift the blockage (apparently using a wide toothed comb is good) get Ellie feeding so her jaw is lined up with the red patch will also help - it's bloody awful once it takes hold so I do hope it's not.
Alternatively, (and less dramatically) you may just have a cold, in which case a nice hot toddy will make you feel much better

ChrIRIStmasfairybigpants · 14/12/2007 18:50

pixie - my boob wasn't really sore, that I'd noticed, just red.

ChrIRIStmasfairybigpants · 14/12/2007 18:54

RGPargy - mastitis is caused by a blocked milk duct/lack of flow (my red patch was only the size of a couple of 50p's)

littleoldme · 14/12/2007 19:17

Loopy - with you on the learnng thing Elliot hates having a dirty nappy and is so much louder than DS1!! I seem to have just fallen head over heels with him, again, today much loved upedness here (even though he's a teat seeking missile!!!! )

RGPargy · 14/12/2007 20:06

hoiw long do i massage for?

fiona76 · 14/12/2007 20:12

Anabel is now 7 pounds 11 ounces (5 15 at birth ) so feeling very pleased.

Little -I had similar length latent phase so I know how you feel its amazing how you feel so tired one minute and then you have the baby and you are totaly energised. Look after yourself though it will all catch up with you so rest lots. I wish someone had told me that some people have long latent phase as I felt like a bit of a wimp and failure at the time doesn't matter afterwards though.

Happy friday night everyone.

ChrIRIStmasfairybigpants · 14/12/2007 20:47

RGPArgy - do I take it that your short posts = you feeling like shite? Feel for you honey Massage loads to get the milk flowing & really go for the areas that are sore/red. Just keep repeating every 1/2 hour or so until you get some difference in temp/feel/look of the area. Hot flannels too after bath/shower to open everything up. If you're feeling bad tomorrow call the docs.

RGPargy · 14/12/2007 21:02

yes iris, feel shite. will keep massaging. mw coming tomoz so will ask for help

ChrIRIStmasfairybigpants · 14/12/2007 21:32

take care sweetheart ((hugs)) drink plenty of water and try to feed Ellie as much as you can from whichever boob hurts hope you feel better tomorrow.
