Thought as I'm bored and we're on page 40 of thread 2, I'd make a thread 3!

@MrsEG, aaahh your Halloween plans and costumes sound awesome 😀 I hope they get to go ahead as planned...

I have no idea what will happen in terms of a lockdown?? I think maybe they'll start with closing non essentials again first? My friend was saying she'd rather have a lockdown now or soon and then maybe be able to have things ease up for Christmas. To be honest I think over Christmas, people will do whatever anyway!

I'm so glad you're back on track with the weaning. You're doing amazingly well xx

Well! Saturday night we started in his room and made it until 11pm. Last night we started in his room and made it until 2am. Slow progress, but still progress! He's got 3 teeth now and I think a 4th on its way. Isolation is getting a bit grinding, but we're getting through the house jobs, having time in the garden and eating like little piggies to make it more bearable! Joe is constantly shuffling/scooching around and has been up on his hands and feet this morning 😂

Hope every one is doing OK? We'll need a new thread soon 😛

@MrsR16 @purplefig @ELW85 @LikeTheFruit @cupcakesandglitter @MrsH497 @Larrydavid @lokicat @stormtrooperjulian @thumper59 @ranchorelaxo @TrashKitten10 @delilah7

Sorry if I've forgotten anyone! Xx

@Fivebyfive2 hey! I swear I never get any notifications any more?!? You're a saint for even considering surrogacy... I'm not sure I'd cope mentally with it!

Don't talk to me about fireworks... my poor dog was having a right old time of it last night! It's getting worse every year. Poor Joe! I wonder what's causing his wake ups? It's so hard when they don't sleep!

Fab that Joe's confident enough to start walking with his walker! That's great! Bless him 😊 I'll bear in mind the hot chocolate recommendations... yum!

purplefig · 07/11/2020 06:49

Just a quick one! M is doing grand, she’s somehow 8.5 months now. Loves her solids, rolling out of rooms and copying everyone. She’s such a sociable soul so we’re not best pleased about lockdown! But going to try and make the most of it with walks and we can still see my parents because they provide childcare one day a week.

@Fivebyfive2 gorgeous pictures! Sorry to hear his sleep had gone to pot again. Re: surrogacy, I’m actually quite firmly against it. Obviously I respect everybody’s choices and it is legal, but I feel it prioritises the need of the people who want to be parents over that of the baby and the woman carrying the baby. I cannot imagine the trauma of the woman who has given birth and the baby being separated. I was always on the fence about it, but it was actually reading some really eye opening threads on here that changed my mind. We also have a history of multiple early infant separation from the mother in my family, and I can see the impact it has (so no doubt that influences my opinion).

MrsEG · 07/11/2020 07:28

Morning! Just checking in again.
Ugh. Lockdown. DH has had to close his gym again and the announcement furlough is now extended to March doesn’t give us high hopes. I’m so angry about it. There’s zero evidence that gyms in general are unsafe, but our gym is a small independent, enormous unit with air vents in the ceiling and a massive shutter door that is always kept open. Social distancing, spotlessly clean. I’m so mad. It’s taking people’s livelihoods away.
So. We’re back to online coaching and Zoom classes while I try and wrangle two 9 month olds who can crawl as fast as the damn wind and keep trying to walk aaaall alone!! I also have a massive concern about Conors eye and can’t get a GP to look at it for love nor money.

But - were trying to make the most of it too. Some lovely walks recently. Also, the boys are starting to very much play with each other and I love it. Don’t get me wrong - sometimes this materialises as baby wrestling with some tears haha, but this morning I woke up to see them both reaching out to each other and babbling away at each other through their cots! 😍
They start nursery in 2 weeks and I’m so excited for them to meet all those other wee babas too.
Oh! And the cutest thing, we got a word each - Conor can babble Dada but Ruairí does Mama (sounds more like Mumma!) - I’m not sure I can count it as actual first words because they’ve no idea what they’re saying but it’s lovely and clear!!

@Fivebyfive2 Poor you, Joe still not sleeping well? I don’t know how you’re coping! The fireworks have been hideous here too, the noise has been unreal. I’ve had to keep our dog medicated as he was having such a bad time. Ahh, what lovely pics!! Oh your Nan 🙈 my late Nana was the same, she’d be difficult for the sheer sake of it!!

@MrsR16 Yes, hate hate these fireworks - the past two nights it’s been like a warzone outside our house, people setting off rockets in their gardens. It’s been horrible!!

@purplefig Ah bless her haha, I remember the rolling days! They’re bloody quick with it too!! We’re so far off the copying though, I keep trying to teach them to wave and clap and they look at me like I’m stupid. But they’re this close to walking so I figure they’re just throwing all their energy in to that hahah!

ELW85 · 07/11/2020 09:07

Morning all

Just thought I’d drop in. Been back to work this week, and somehow survived even though Finn is with me!
He is 7 months and has been babbling away loads the past week (mumma loads and the past couple of days dada) like @MrsEG not sure if they count as words, but lovely to hear! He’s sitting independently, pushing up on his right arm and trying to crawl with his left leg 😂
Still not consistently using his thumb to grip but I am less obsessed and he’s making progress all the time so feeling better.
We’re due to move in 2 weeks and I totally don’t feel prepared!

@Fivebyfive2 - I had the purple one latte yesterday. Kind of on the fence; sounds like the hot chocolates are the way forward? It’s so exciting he’s using his walker! There’ll be no stopping him soon!
Re:surrogacy I think it’s one of those things where you unfortunately probably can’t gauge how it’ll impact all involved until you’re in it and it’s too late. I think it’s amazing that you want to help someone become a mother! I guess the things to ask yourself are: could you cope with being pregnant right now? Do you enjoy being pregnant enough to go through it and not have the baby at the end? Will it be confusing for Joe? Could you get yourself in the mindset of giving the baby away and then having a coping strategy in place if you didn’t cope as you thought?
Sorry I’m totally not trying to be a downer on it, it’s just such a huge situation!

@purplefig - lush to hear from you and that you and M are doing so well.
It’s great that she’s copying you! Finn’s got lots of vocal reciprocity but not with mimicking hand stuff yet.

@MrsEG - I’m struggling with this lockdown. We’re meant to bf in a worse position than March but it doesn’t feel like there’s a lockdown at all! I really feel for you and your DH. It’s the small businesses that are working their arses off to abide by the rules but aren’t being allowed to remain open.

@MrsR16 - but Harley dog in a sock! That redeems 2020 somewhat 😊

MrsR16 · 07/11/2020 10:57

@purplefig aw that's wonderful that M's doing so well! They grow up so quickly!!

@MrsEG I've been thinking about you and DH with this new lockdown! It's so frustrating! What's your concern with Conor's eye? Sorry if you've already explained - my brain is total mush at the moment!

Ah @ELW85 I should definitely share the sock photo! So this is how we get my dog to cope (slightly) better with fireworks...

As an aside, I took Ethan for his first haircut this week! He was a superstar and sat so well! Check out this cheeky monkey 😂

He's also been to the childminder's for full days this week - I was petrified and tears were shed (little sod cries every time I drop him off which gets me right in the feels!) but he's doing great! He's finally learnt that it's ok to sleep there 👌

MrsEG · 07/11/2020 11:27

@ELW85 Finn sounds like he’s doing absolutely amazing! Yeah, it’s the inconsistency that’s pissing me off. Why is sodding B&Q open, but my husbands business that is proven to be COVID secure is closed? And for how long?? I was just getting a curb on my anxiety and it’s thrown me really badly. I’m just so glad I’m going back to work soon to get a normal wage again!

@MrsR16 I love the sock idea! My poor dog was almost beyond help this week, we had to medicate him! I hate it!! Conor has a bad red puffy eye, just one eye and always the same one. Worse when he first wakes up and it wears off during the day. I’ve spoken to two GPs (his, and then a friend of ours) and to be honest it’s a case of ‘keep an eye on it’ but both have been like ‘Ooh it’s hard to see on the phone’ let us come in then!! They don’t know if it’s eczema, an allergy, etc. I just don’t understand why no one will allow us in!
Ah Ethan is such a little doll! Great he’s enjoying the childminders!! The boys have their nursery settling days next week!

Fivebyfive2 · 07/11/2020 12:59

Hi all, happy weekend! Really great to see your updates and hear how everyone is getting on.

@ELW85, I'm so pleased Finn is doing well and that you're feeling better 🙂 Hot chocolate is definitely the way to go!

@MrsEG, hope the fireworks ease off after this weekend and then our babies and pets can relax! That's adorable about the boys being more interactive with each other. And how awesome that they're babbling mama and dada, it's like they're making sure it's fair 😂

@MrsR16, Ethan is such a dude, I love it 😎 And I think your dog sock idea is genius! Unfortunately I doubt my cat would go for it...

@purplefig, amazing to hear M is doing so well!

Sounds like lock down 2.0 is, taking its toll, as expected 🙁 Apparently I'm gonna, be furloughed once my maternity ends, god knows what will happen after that, I really wouldn't be surprised if I'm laid off to be honest. But trying to be positive for now and think it gives me a bit more time with Joe. @MrsEG, I'm with you, I don't see why they're extending furlough unless they're planning further lockdowns; either an extension of this one or just another one after Christmas??

OP posts:
ELW85 · 08/11/2020 16:34

@MrsEG - thank you, I’m sure he is but I definitely still have wobbly days when it comes to his development/hands!
Yeah that makes no sense to me that B&Q can stay open. Hardly essential?! I think the mental health benefit of gyms is infinite and that’s what we all need right now!

@Fivebyfive2 - oh god no, do you think redundancy is possible? I’m so sorry and keeping everything crossed it’s not the case.
I’ve heard rumours of January for more cuts for us. I’ve been told not to worry about my role but it’s impossible not to. Just got to keep going, I suppose.

Well that’s the house nearly packed up. Feeling quite emotional. The vendors finally agreed to half of the rewire costs so we’re in a better place.
I hope everyone is having a good weekend?
At least Biden won! One redeeming feature of 2020 (apart from the babies born this year of course!)

Fivebyfive2 · 13/11/2020 09:07

Hi all, happy Friday!

@ELW85, how's everything going with your new home? Xx

@MrsR16, been thinking of you and how you're getting on working your notice and about to start your new job! I'm so relieved Ethan does well at the childminder and at grandparents, it gives me hope for Joe! Have you started to get asked about what 'he wants' for his birthday and Christmas yet? I've had all the relatives on already!

@MrsEG @cupcakesandglitter @purplefig @mrsh497 @lemonysherbet hope you're all doing OK? Xx

Joe was 11 months yesterday, just how has that happened?! He's been doing some independent standing, only little bits, but getting more frequent and gradually holding it for a little longer each time. He looks soooo pleased with himself 😂 His sleep is still not too bad (touch wood!) we actually only had 2 wakes last night and a few times now he's gone to sleep by himself and not on the boob or being rocked, so very happy. Dh has a week off from 23rd Nov, so I'm thinking of night weaning him... My theory is if I can ditch the night feeds before I wean him off bf in the day at 12 months, he's less likely to just want extra feeds at night?? No idea if that will actually work though!

How are the older babies (toddlers?!) getting along? @thumper59 @stormtrooperjulian @Crossfitgirl

@TrashKitten10, has Daisy ran off with any more lube?! 😂

@Fivebyfive2 awww gorgeous boy 🥰 well done to Joe for the sleeping and standing! I can't believe he's 11 months?! How amazing he's settling without boob, can't wait for that day 😓 I'm okay thanks - currently hit the 8 month sleep regression plus two top teeth have popped out and she's trying to crawl in her sleep 😭 I'm exhausted!! She's currently going to sleep around 11pm?! She doesn't seem to want her third nap and fights it so I tried to drop it and just to bath and bedtime, but she wakes an hour or so later and just will not settle for bed!! Hoping the regression doesn't last long, I'm back at work too so doesn't help not having sleep 😂😓

Fivebyfive2 · 13/11/2020 09:32

@cupcakesandglitter, the settling without boob is not a done deal by any means sadly... So some nights now he has a feed and seemed to want me to put him down, he was really sleepy anyway so he just ind of rolled on his side, babbled a bit while I tapped his bum. Then I just sat away from the cot and he drifted off. He does that sometimes and is absolutely fine, but other nights he still will not settle at all unless fed right to sleep. I'm probably not consistent enough! How are feeling being back at work? I'm doing keeping in touch days, it's a bit odd to be honest as it's working from home and work is basically in a right mess at the moment! Hope the regression doesn't last too long for you guys xxx

cupcakesandglitter · 13/11/2020 10:01

@Fivebyfive2 aww small steps though!! The fact that he's doing it at all is a plus - remember there was a point he wouldn't at all! Whenever Dina does that she then rolls onto her front and her eyes jolt open and that's it for her 😂 it's very weird being back - same as you I suppose wfh but just so much up in the air! It's a very weird time but I'm grateful to be at home with Dina suppose 😓 when are you officially back? X

Lemonysherbet · 13/11/2020 11:00

Morning @fivebyfive2 it's been quiet on here lately, nice to hear from you :) how is Joe nearly 11 months. I have a 5.5 month old. It's scary how fast time goes. That's exciting on the standing front! Jack sat up for like 2 seconds yesterday and I nearly cried with joy. Still hormonal!

I did birth reflections a few days ago, talked through my induction through to postpartum with the nicest midwife. It's given me the closer I needed. Also made me feel like superwoman (I was left on my own on the ward for 5 hours after my waters went, to be discovered at 9cm dialated before my husband could come in!) And she was horrified about how I'd been treated. But I feel ready and like I could do it all again now. Phew!

Picture of jack looking cheeky af!

Closure* god I miss my brain

MrsEG · 13/11/2020 22:37

Hi ladies!

Hope everyone and all babies are great. I’m about to head in to my last week of maternity leave! Very mixed feelings about it all.
Boys are fab - Conor took his first steps this week at 9 months old!! I’ll link a video. He is now very pleased with himself and practices at any given opportunity by pushing himself off the sofa. A lot of bumps and bruises here haha!

www.instagram.com/p/CHdZR9ohmrl/?igshid=1fgll3a9zvzrm

Ruairí can stand up for ages but seems much more hesitant to walk, and I’ll be honest, I’m not encouraging it. I can barely manage two babies as it is let alone walkers!!!

They have their nursery setting mornings next week, along with their 9-month check. We’re lucky that this is happening face to face which I’m so happy about! Hoping they’ll sail through but I’m certain social development is behind after this horrid year. But I’m very excited about them starting nursery to bring that social side out of them!

@ELW85 Good luck with the big move! How’s it all going?

@Fivebyfive2 11 months old!! Oh my goodness where has that whole year gone?! He sounds like he’s doing amazing!! A friend of mine has night weaned recently, she tried offering a sip of water when baby woke instead. She’s having some success so far but I’ll be honest I don’t know much about it all!

@cupcakesandglitter Ahh the dreaded 8-month regression, I found that so tough! Just remember - it’s all just a phase. Sleep will return!!

@Lemonysherbet Ah Jack is so gorgeous! Glad you were able to have that discussion. All the way to 9cm - wow. You’re a superwoman. I really hope it’s all helped gain the closure!
And ha - I miss my brain so much. I need it back!! How do I even log on to a laptop anymore!?

My little dudes in their PJs before bed tonight. I have to say, for how hard hard harrrrd I’ve found them thus far I’m enjoying this age so, so much. I spent a day with my 2.5 y/o niece this week and JESUS it was tough. Soaking up these babies while they’re still small!!

Ttc 1st baby catch up 3rd thread!
cupcakesandglitter · 13/11/2020 23:22

@MrsEG omg well done Conor! Love the fact that he started crawling once he dropped back down 😂 (I hope you don't mind but I've followed you on Instagram! I'm much more regular at scrolling on there than on here 😂) that's fab that they're having a check up! Is it with your HV or GP? How're you feeling about returning back to work? I'm letting each night pass reminding myself it should hopefully be over soon but I'm getting more and more exhausted every day 😂😅 I LOVE their pyjamas!! They really are growing up quickly 🥺

Ahh @Lemonysherbet how cute is baby Jack!! Glad you got some closure about your Labour experience - are you feeling better about it now you've done the recap? X

MrsEG · 14/11/2020 15:06

@cupcakesandglitter I don’t mind at all and have followed back!! I feel like I know you all anyway, and already have some of you on there already!!
The check is with the HV, it’s a standard development check up but I’ve really had to chase for it which is annoying. But at least it’s booked in now!
I feel weird about going back to work; looking forward to the routine and definitely looking forward to the boys being able to actually play with other babies at nursery, but I just feel so sad this part is over, especially as it’s been such a blighted maternity leave with Covid! But you can’t dwell can you. I still have my two fabulous boys!
How is Dina?

cupcakesandglitter · 14/11/2020 15:38

@MrsEG oh definitely! It's so crazy how we've all been on this journey together and finally all have our little ones here. I'm glad you've got one booked in - I feel like I should maybe give mine a call because I've not heard from her in months! Ahh yeah that's exactly how I feel, I feel like it's gone so quickly but feel like I've almost had it taken away from me because of COVID 😓 she's doing okay thanks - she did her first crawl yesterday! Won't do it again though 😂 she's more than content rolling around the room and having me chase her 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ now I know what you mean with constantly being up when they're mobile - I never get to sit down!

Larrydavid · 15/11/2020 20:38

Hello! I've been useless at keeping up on here but Rory is 6 months tomorrow so I thought I'd log on and see how everyone is doing! Going to have a read through your posts. Have a sleeping baby on me and the crown playing. Bliss!

Here's a pic of the little lady. Does time continue to fly by like this?! Six months has whizzed by.

Hope you're all doing well x

Hey everyone sorry I am absolutely rubbish at keeping up on here. But life is back to normal with work and juggling whatever else so spare time is limited.

My little Freddie turned 1 on the 7th November. ( I turned 25 too but it's not my birthday anymore 🙄😂)

He is just the most wonderful little boy. I am so proud of him every day. He's always so happy, so smiley and so brave! He has absolutely no fear!! He does 2 days a week at nursery now. And he walks all over the bloody place!!

Hope your all well. Please tag me in updates and pics so I can catch up with you all in these crazy times xx

@Larrydavid it does whizz by! And as they get older it only seems to go faster 😭. Freddie is a walking, talking little boy now and I just don't know when it happened?!

@MrsEG look at the boys go!! They are gorgeous!! I love the Dino pjs!

@Lemonysherbet I'm glad speaking to the midwife helped. I sometimes wonder if it's something I should do/ if I'll be triggered by my labour experience next time around. I just make a laugh about it but I do wonder how/ if it'll affect me mentally next time around. Jack is beautiful.

@Fivebyfive2 how is joe getting on? He looks as smiley as ever!!

@ELW85 how are you getting on? Have you moved? We've just put the house up for sale in the last few weeks and it's driving me crazy!

Fivebyfive2 · 20/11/2020 14:16

@thumper59, Freddie is such a happy chappy, love the pic of him with his cake! So glad to hear you guys are doing well 🙂

Well, this is it ladies... I have finally reached my absolute limit and tonight we begin sleep training. Dh has all the coming week off so we decided it was time. Feeding to sleep isn't as effective as it was, it takes ages and when he's messing about latching and unlatching he bites and it is so painful. We are down to 2 wakes a night usually, which is so much better, but I need him to be able to consistently fall asleep not being on the boob. Wish me look!!

@MrsEG aaaahhh that's amazing that Connor is walking 😀

@MrsR16 @ELW85 @purplefig, how are you ladies doing? Xx
