Thought as I'm bored and we're on page 40 of thread 2, I'd make a thread 3!

@MrsEG, aaahh your Halloween plans and costumes sound awesome 😀 I hope they get to go ahead as planned...

I have no idea what will happen in terms of a lockdown?? I think maybe they'll start with closing non essentials again first? My friend was saying she'd rather have a lockdown now or soon and then maybe be able to have things ease up for Christmas. To be honest I think over Christmas, people will do whatever anyway!

I'm so glad you're back on track with the weaning. You're doing amazingly well xx

Well! Saturday night we started in his room and made it until 11pm. Last night we started in his room and made it until 2am. Slow progress, but still progress! He's got 3 teeth now and I think a 4th on its way. Isolation is getting a bit grinding, but we're getting through the house jobs, having time in the garden and eating like little piggies to make it more bearable! Joe is constantly shuffling/scooching around and has been up on his hands and feet this morning 😂

Hope every one is doing OK? We'll need a new thread soon 😛

@MrsR16 @purplefig @ELW85 @LikeTheFruit @cupcakesandglitter @MrsH497 @Larrydavid @lokicat @stormtrooperjulian @thumper59 @ranchorelaxo @TrashKitten10 @delilah7

Sorry if I've forgotten anyone! Xx

Aw, hey @Fivebyfive2 that's a cracking photo!! Just a boy and his mummy ❤️ so cute!!

Ethan's doing well, thank you! Cruising round everywhere possible... he fell off the sofa the other day 🤦‍♀️ DH wasn't keeping a close enough eye! He also (finally) put himself to sleep last night! I was having a meltdown about how much I'd ruined him by having him go to sleep on me every night and he proved me all kinds of wrong 😂

I'm back at work in a couple of weeks and am dreading it 😂 but I'll get over it! We left Ethan at the ILs today for a few hours and he had a great time! Even napped for a bit! 🎉 I have no doubt he'll be fine. I, however, will be in pieces!

Hope everyone's getting on ok??

Fivebyfive2 · 11/10/2020 21:05

@ELW85, glad Finn is making progress and you're feeling a bit more positive. Of course you'll still have wobbles, you've been through so much so are bound to worry. Mil has actually been much better recently, not sure what's going on... I'm just making the most of it because I'm sure things will kick off again soon, probably for Christmas 😂

@MrsR16, Waaaaagh!! Go Ethan! Can I ask, what did you do the night he got himself to sleep?? Joe always gets sooooo close but just can't seem to actually drop off on his own yet. I worry more now he's not going to nursery, I don't want my parents having massive stresses with his naps etc.

OP posts:
MrsR16 · 11/10/2020 21:34

@Fivebyfive2 this is gonna sound awful, but I got him to sleep by cuddling, he woke up as I put him down, so I picked him up, cuddled him to sleep again, put him down, he woke up, I started crying, left the room, swearing, took the monitor with me and as I was sobbing to DH about how he was standing up in his crib, he'd never be able to put himself to sleep, ever, I'd completely buggered him up, etc etc etc. Then I noticed that it was all quiet and he'd literally laid himself down and gone to sleep!! 😂

FWIW, Ethan was at my ILs today. I said I didn't expect him to nap at all because it's all exciting being at Nanny & Grandad's! He still fell asleep 😊 without a fight!

Fivebyfive2 · 12/10/2020 08:14

@MrsR16, I totally get it mate, it's so hard when they keep waking every time you put them down 🙁 I do the same sometimes, just let him crack on for a little bit and hope he goes off... Your story gives me hope!! Joe can settle himself, he must do because sometimes I'll wake up from him crying out but by the time I'm at his room, it's all quiet and he's asleep?! I think it's getting him from properly awake to dropping off by himself that is the struggle, if that makes sense?

We had another good night! 7pm till 6am with 3 short wakes 🙂 Busy day today, we're dismantling the jumperoo as he doesn't seem to enjoy it as much now he's moving properly and we need the space! Moving the living room around a bit to make things a bit safer. Oh and looking at hoovers because ours is dead. Oh what an exciting life 😂😛

@Fivebyfive2 - I’m so pleased MiL has been better for you recently! Best not to question it or it’ll change 😂
Thanks, I’m starting to get my head round things in general I think...until the next thing.
Finn’s been doing a lot of tending lately wanting to stand up, so this morning I held him gently under the arms in his cot and he took a step!!
I’m still not convinced I didn’t imagine it 😂

@MrsR16 - wish I’d been there with wine for your meltdown to support you! You’re doing an incredible job and Ethan is a total super baby; doing everything wonderfully!

LikeTheFruit · 12/10/2020 13:57

Hi Ladies!

I am woefully behind with this thread!
I naively though that teeth would come before crawling but I've somehow got a toothless crawling 6.5 month old!!! Send help 🤣🤣🤣

We did a wee bit of sleep training last Thursday night and she now self settled to sleep at bedtime - took one night! Still waking a few times but hoping that will improve with time.

Hope you're all well! Xx

MrsR16 · 12/10/2020 14:10

@Fivebyfive2 it is bloody hard! However, these babies are something special, and I try hard to remember that! That's great that you had a good night! I get you with the moving things around. We've had to completely rearrange our downstairs! 😂

@ELW85 virtual wine is good 😂 ❤️❤️

@LikeTheFruit hey stranger!! Aw, a toothless crawling 6.5 month old! 😂 that's brilliant! Good on you with the sleep training! I'm glad it seems to have worked 😊

LikeTheFruit · 12/10/2020 14:43

@MrsR16 it was pretty wimpy sleep training so can't believe it worked! Naps pretty variable but I'll try again after a couple of weeks of night self settling.

ELW85 · 12/10/2020 16:19

@LikeTheFruit - congratulations, I’m really pleased for you that Esme is doing so well xx

Fivebyfive2 · 14/10/2020 09:13

@LikeTheFruit, glad Esme is doing well with her sleep 👍

@MrsR16, yes they're definitely something special! Something to remember at 3am I guess 😂

So I've got my hv call tomorrow to go through the 10 month development check. Tonight I'll double check all the bits to see if anything else can be ticked off the check list. Here is Joe this morning, doing his new favourite thing 😀

@ELW85 @purplefig @MrsEG, hope you are all OK xxx

@Fivebyfive2 - oh god he’s absolutely gorgeous! He’s come on leaps and bounds mobility wise, hasn’t he?
I’m sure he‘ll smash it tomorrow but let us know how you get on!

We’ve got an outpatients for Finn tomorrow to follow up on his development and some neurological stuff.
I’m currently freaking out about his hand still sometimes being fisted; after I was doing so well too.
Don’t get me wrong, he’s picking things up and feeding himself etc but I’m under the impression he shouldn’t be doing it and as he’s still not pushing up on his hands, I need to raise it. Hopefully I’m just being stupid.
None of the other (handful) of mums I know have even thought about this I think but it’s just because it was mixed in with his other stuff. Sigh.

Photo of him being cute though!

Fivebyfive2 · 15/10/2020 20:11

@ELW85, how did your appointment go? Finn is sooo cute 😍

Hv call went well, according to their questionnaire Joe is at the top ends of their checklists for his developments, which is fab to here! She did get a bit pithy about me not doing full on blw but also said it sounded like he was doing well enough with food. She also gave me the number and website /fb page to use for advice for when I go to wean him off the boob once he's a year. Which is nice because when I asked a fb breastfeeding group, I mostly got comments about 'why do you want to stop' etc 🤯

OP posts:
ELW85 · 16/10/2020 09:14

@Fivebyfive2 - not amazingly if I’m honest. The doctor was awful to me and basically fobbed me off when I tried to ask her about a couple of things I’m worried about.
She was also actually really nasty twice so I’m trying to raise a complaint with PALS because she basically mocked me and put me in such a tailspin yesterday I spent last night crying on my husband.

I’m so, so pleased Joe is doing well and is at the top end! I really didn’t think they had a preference on weaning approach so I’m surprised to hear that. As long as he’s eating and you’re both happy, I wouldn’t have thought it matters?

purplefig · 16/10/2020 19:03

Hi all! How're we doing?

@ELW85 sorry to hear the doctor was rude to you, not what you need when you're already worried. Did you make any progress? How're you and Finn doing in general?

@Fivebyfive2 this is why HVs have such a bad rep!! So bloody inconsistent...what's wrong with a mix of BLW and spoon feeding!? I think it's the perfect answer, fwiw. Great news Joe is smashing it though, that ought to stop her questioning anything. Grr.

@LikeTheFruit haha let the fun begin! I had a friend with a 5.5 month old that crawled....she was so distressed she thought she had more time to baby proof haha!

purplefig · 16/10/2020 19:06

Ooops pressed send too soon!

@MrsR16 how're you doing lovely?

@MrsEG thinking of you and those gorgeous boys of yours. Big hugs.

We're good. Just trucking on. Had my third period and bloody hell, I felt quite mad with PMS this time. I can laugh now, but it was honestly really dark for a day. I just couldn't stop weeping. Anyway, all that to say, if anyone else is feeling mad around that time, I read an amazing book on periods and I am so excited to implement some of the changes to try and reduce PMS.

M is doing grand. She'll be 8 months soon and she is just full of smiles and laughs (when she's not hungry / tired / teething etc.). I've made an effort to get out more this week and see friends and we both feel way better for it. Turns out M is a very, very sociable baby! We're off swimming tomorrow which I'm so excited for.

Have a good weekend all! x

MrsR16 · 16/10/2020 19:50

Hey @purplefig I'm so pleased M's doing so well! 😊 we're doing ok. I've actually just secured a new job, but I'm waiting for my unconditional offer (waiting on references) to come through before resigning my current job. I'm on annual leave at the moment before going back on 29 October... I may not have to work my notice period as my current place have already said that there's not much point if I'm only going to be there for a couple of weeks! So we'll see. It's all happening very quickly! I only interviewed on Tuesday... 🙈 in other news, Ethan now has 4 teeth! And I'm expecting him to walk in the next month or so... he's confidently cruising around everything at the moment!!

I definitely struggle with PMS now! It was never as bad before I had Ethan 😂 enjoy swimming!! I really want to take Ethan but I'm petrified about the whole idea 🤣

MrsEG · 17/10/2020 07:16

Hi ladies!
I hope everyone is doing great. I’ve had a proper catch up on the thread!
I am feeling better. I recently had a bit of a breakdown (and I don’t use that term lightly in any sense) but feel like I’ve come out the other side a little. The telephone counselling has been dreadful (so many awkward long pauses, it just doesn’t work on the phone) but my GP really is looking after me now. And I just got everything out in the open with DH too and even in just doing that, vocalising exactly how I feel, was quite cathartic. Anyway that’s my long woolly way of saying I feel a bit better!

The boys are great. They are crawling like crazy, put Conor on carpet and you’re literally running after him! We also got a ‘Dada’ out of him yesterday. He amazes me - that kid was barely 5lbs when he got poorly as a newborn and look at him now!! We’ve been going to soft play a lot and they love it but more importantly so do I! I actually get to sit and chat to other mums. What a concept haha!

We also went to the pumpkin patch for our Halloween day last weekend, here’s a snap. I’ll add a few pics of the last few weeks! They were good as gold in their costumes - good job, lads, as they’re only going to get more extra!

@TrashKitten10 You’ve summed it up so, so well. The boys start nursery at the very end of November and part of me at this point is CRAVING that routine of starting work again. I’m genuinely so, so looking forward to it. I can’t wait for them to play with other babies too. I think it’ll do all of us the absolute world of good! How are you doing?

@Fivebyfive2 How amazing Joe had a full night in his room! How has he done since? That’s amazing that he aced his 9-month check. The boys have theirs soon, I’ve no idea what they’ll be looking for haha! Surely you can wean your baby in any way you like.

Any news from @FlapJackered??

@Lemonysherbet 4 months!! My god. Where does the time go!!

@ELW85 I’m so sorry the nurse was so awful to you. Absolutely put in a complaint. How is Finn doing? I love his gorgeous pics on Instagram! How is the house sale going?

@MRSR16 Oh no!! Don’t worry Ruairí fell off the changing table last week, I also tripped at home with Conor in my arms and knew I was going to fall so threw him at the sofa 🙈 they bounce! They amaze me. Think we’re in for a good few years of bumps and falls!!

@LikeTheFruit Ah I’m glad she is sleeping for you - sleep is so restorative and it makes everything look different the next day!! The boys crawled around the same age. They’re 8.5 months now and I have to chase them. Get some rubber corners for your shelves hah!

@purplefig PMS is hideous isn’t it, I’ve also found it much worse post-babies. What sort of tips are you looking at? Ah enjoy swimming! We went a few weekends ago. They loved it. Was a bit of a palaver getting everyone ready and then dressed again after, my god peeling a wetsuit of a baby who will NOT STAY STILL should be an Olympic sport! That’s fab she’s so sociable too! Ruairí loves playing with the other babies at soft play but poor Conor gets a bit anxious. Baby steps!

@ELW85 Thanks. Sorry you had a negative experience at Finn's appointment. Definitely feedback via PALS.

@Fivebyfive2 aww great to hear that Joe's doing so well! That's great you've had some weaning advice for stopping breastfeeding from your HV I'm planning on going til a year too when she can have cows milk. Think we're way behind introducing a bottle now!

@purplefig buying a mini prison so I have more time to baby proof🤣🤣. Though we're going on a wee holiday to the Scottish Borders today and praying the accommodation isn't a death trap!! I've not had a period yet, another thing to look forward to 🤣🤣. Swimming is just brilliant, hope M loves it!

@Mrs R16 congratulations on the new job!! And 4 teeth wow! Still waiting on number one here at 7 months.

@MrsEG 👋 hello!! Lovely to see you back. So glad you're feeling a little better. We were never meant to go through all this alone. Aww the boys are doing great! I'd love to go to soft play but they're STILL not open in Scotland. We're been going swimming every week for over a month now, just love it. Esme has the same elephant suit but I just have the neoprene nappy, she is not a wetsuit girl 🤣🤣. Likes to have unrestricted limbs!

We're off on a wee holiday today for a few days, which is much needed. We're in central Scotland so are on v strict covid measures again. Which are more strict than Boris' tier 3 which feels a little unfair. All pubs, restaurants closed. Can't meet indoors at all abs can only meet one other household outside. Winter's going to be fun (!)

@LikeTheFruit Haha her expression with the banana! Enjoy your break, I find it’s just a case of someone needs to have their eye on them - me and DH share the job at home, and just panic when they both crawl in opposite directions haha! We have a holiday booked for the start of November and have been trying to decide whether it’s still worth going (were in Manchester - Tier 2, but I feel like 3 is coming...) - but I do crave the break too. Just a change of scenery I think would do us all the world of good!
Haha - I so wish I’d gone for the nappy, getting those wetsuits off is like trying to wrestle a snake 🙈 the pool we go to is quite cool though so they get a little chilly after a while. Hoping the baby pools open up soon!
These restrictions are just crazy aren’t they. Hope you have a wonderful break regardless x

FlapJackered · 17/10/2020 12:36

Hi everyone! Just to let you know I am officially a Mummy, finally!!
This is Rupert, born on 14th weighing 7lb 2oz.
I am totally in love! 😍
Just in hospital as I had to have a catheter inserted after the birth so having that taken out. (Joy!) Fingers crossed all is well in that department now! 🤞
I will try and catch up on the thread soon as it will be lovely to see how all of you and your beautiful babies are doing. ❤️

@FlapJackered Congratulations!!! Rupert is absolutely gorgeous xxx

MrsEG · 17/10/2020 13:53

@FlapJackered Absolutely beautiful boy! Congratulations to you all. Hope you’re doing okay; I had a catheter it’s not so bad at all coming out! Enjoy your new little guy xx

purplefig · 18/10/2020 15:56

@FlapJackered oh will you just look at him?! Super scrummy!! Well done my lovely, you've done an amazing job. Absolutely no pressure to reply on here, we all know what life is like with a newborn. Huge big hugs and remember it's so important to rest. You've just done SO much!!! xxx

@MrsEG oh mate, I'm glad to hear you're feeling on the other side of it now. FWIW, I cannot see therapy working well on the phone, it's such an intimate thing - surely you need eye contact and for them to read your body language? What has the Dr suggested for you? Oh the boys are just looking glorious and your Halloween picture is literally everything. Just AMAZING. Ok so period wise I am going to be starting a magnesium and B6 supplement. She writes that PMS is so common, but really, really should not be. That blew my mind in all honestly. It's the Period Repair Manual: Natural Treatment for Better Hormones and Better Periods - as I said, 99p on Kindle the other day. Also don't be put off by the title, she takes a very holistic approach.

@MrsR16 OMG get you, just casually smashing out an interviewing and securing a new job while on maternity leave. So impressive! What's the new role like? How many days? So freaking chuffed for you!

Swimming was AMAZING. Probably because we went with DH, so one baby to two adults which was just about manageable hahaa. She absolutely loved it and it was nice to just feel normal for a while. Hope you're all having lovely weekends. Big hugs all xxx

purplefig · 18/10/2020 15:56

Aghrr sorry missed @LikeTheFruit have a beautiful time on your hols. Love love love the pic of her with the banana. Ummmm, no thanks mum! Grin

Fivebyfive2 · 19/10/2020 09:00

Hello all, sorry I've fallen behind a little, it has been a mad few days!

@FlapJackered, a aaahhh look at him, he is so perfect and what a gorgeous name too! I'm so happy for you and if you need a place to vent, ask questions or just anything really, we are your gals 🙂😘

@MrsEG, I absolutely adore the costumes!! I'm just picturing you guys getting more extra as the boys get older 😂

@purplefig, great to hear M (my little Dame Judy Dench 😘) is doing so well and loves to be social. I haven't had my period back yet and have no idea what to expect?! I'll just have to wait and see...

@likethefruit, enjoy your holiday!! That's what I'm planning to do, bf Joe until 1 and then just get him on cows milk. I've actually let him have a few sips now and then recently, to get him used to it. To be honest I'm ready to stop bf now, especially since the occasional biting has started! But may as well push on until Dec really, it doesn't seem worth trying to get him on formula for the sake of about 8 weeks?!

@MrsR16, go Ethan with the cruising! It sounds like you could be in for an interesting Dec with the Christmas tree?! Fantastic news about your new job 😀

So the big news here is... We finally took his bedside cot down! He now does all night, every night in his room in the travel cot! And the last few nights he's only woke up twice 😮😀 I did get emotional when we took the snuzpod down though. We've also took the jumperoo down as he prefers to crawl and pull up etc now and have sorted more of his clothes out.

My parents have decided they're getting him a Thomas the Tank mega blocks set for Christmas and my brother is getting him a Winnie the Pooh book collection for his birthday. Lucky boy!

Happy Monday everyone! I'm gonna try and catch up with the Strictly launch show today. I'm starting to feel festive already 😂
