@Cornishbumpkin think it was me with the dummy suggestion - we had the exact same thing you describe. I knew he was just waking up and crying because he wanted the dummy back in his mouth and the comfort it brings. I think I was putting the dummy back in every hour and we had a glow in the dark one so I could find it haha. I was terrified of getting rid of it as he had it all the time day and night, but he was fine and didnt have any full meltdowns or anything - just needed a few nights of extra reassurance. I think it's a good age to do it so they forget about it quicker Grin

@mrssunshinexxx i never clicked with my HV. When she came to see us for her 12wk check, she told me the weighing clinics had started by appointment only but Amelia wasnt "priority" as she had just been done that day.
Wondering when she will be priority then as she's 5month next week 🤨

Blizy · 21/11/2020 18:01

My HV has been out every 3 to 4 weeks although Rose has been slow to gain weight, she was weighed yesterday at 14lb she's no just under the 25h centile! She's mostly wearing 0-3 month clothes still. She has been diagnosed with CMPA, it's been quite. Fight to get the diagnosis!

HaichMal · 21/11/2020 19:17

I'm really sorry to hear about all the ladies and babies struggling with sleep, yet equally glad it's not just me! I thought the dream feeds every 1-3 hours were bad, but yesterday I was awake from 2am with a short booster nap before 6am, and then last night saw us awake 11:30-1:30 and 4:45 to 6am.

I'm trying @mrssunshinexxx sleep programme, but we're only on day 3 and so far it has been a little bit hit and miss in terms of the afternoon nap and settling at bedtime. She's taken to the lunch time nap though, and it also turns out I can feed or rock to sleep and transfer her straight away and she settles herself mostly, which is an improvement! I'm hoping if I can get the routine going properly and get the afternoon nap in, as she definitely needs it, then bedtimes will get a bit easier, and then eventually nights may as well.

Re the HV. We saw ours pretty much every 2 weeks from 6 weeks until 4 months because we were having weight gain issues. She's expected again at 6 months just to see if things are still on track, and then again between 8 and 10 months for the developmental check. As far as I know the clinics here aren't running.

@Busylizzie85 we are not enjoying leap five either over here. Hopefully it will be over soon. She's putting so much effort into trying to learn to crawl that I think that might also be contributing to our poor sleep, as well as wanting to sit up and roll over consistently - there's a lot going on at the moment!

mrssunshinexxx · 21/11/2020 21:19

It's a complete joke isn't it @Zoey92 she's rung me a few times but she just sounds so patronising ' and how are you doing ?' Well my mums just dropped dead I've had my first baby and we are in the middle of a pandemic so how do you think. Urgh x

mrssunshinexxx · 21/11/2020 21:20

That sounds good @HaichMal I think get the daytime sorted as you say and hopefully the night will follow x

UKtoSK · 21/11/2020 22:32

@Blizy I think Jia isn’t even 13 pounds yet, but funnily enough her weight is following almost the exact same numbers as mine as a baby so in her case I think it’s mostly genetic. How old is Rose now? Jia’s middle name is Rose :)

Think Jia has her first cold. She was waking up crying all night and sounding very snotty with a few coughs here and there. Seems very happy this morning though!

Missgemini · 22/11/2020 10:12

Oh gosh ladies. It's so reassuring knowing we're all in the same position.
Our sleep training continues. The biggest issue is that my LO is so used to sleeping with boob. If boob sleeping was a permanent option I.e. if I don't ever have to return to work, then we would probably just continue with this. But I'll be returning to work in a couple of months with potential night shifts, so sleep training is a must. I think from what some people have said, I'll have to feed him then put him down for naps and night sleep, instead of lying in bed together and boobing to sleep.
During training, we cuddle him when he cries, but it's so sad waiting those few minutes before going in. It's been taking between 40 mins and 1hr 20 for him to sleep at night.
Will try and be strict with it today!

Blizy · 22/11/2020 14:04

@UKtoSK Rose is 23 weeks. She is very petite, a wee shorty just like me!

Good luck to those who are sleep training!

mrssunshinexxx · 22/11/2020 14:36

@Missgemini have you tried not leaving the room and just patting his tummy and shushing or turning white noise on pretty loud? I don't leave the room with mine and it doesn't take her long x

Missgemini · 22/11/2020 14:49

@mrssunshinexxx that's a very good idea! The current method is too hard! Will try that tonight. Thank you!

mrssunshinexxx · 22/11/2020 16:06

@Missgemini send me a DM if you want me to email you the one I use . Just make sure you don't talk to him at all, I know it's hard but it's important I think then they know it's sleepy time x

Missgemini · 22/11/2020 21:06

@mrssunshinexxx omg omg omg! I followed your suggestions! He's asleep! Took 15 mins! Old record was 40 mins! Woohoooooo! Thank you so much! I was doing it all wrong before!

mrssunshinexxx · 23/11/2020 03:18

@Missgemini yay great news! X

mrssunshinexxx · 23/11/2020 08:39

Is anyone on here weaning at 5 months ? X

Busylizzie85 · 23/11/2020 09:31

@mrssunshinexxx I'm going to start this week just with a little baby rice to begin with whilst I wait for a weaning guide pack to come through as I have no idea what I am doing! I feel she's ready and she's nearly 5 months and a half months and really interested in food plus I don't think milk is sustaining her needs anymore.

OP posts:
mrssunshinexxx · 23/11/2020 10:34

@Busylizzie85 I have given my little girl a couple things not planned she's been on my knee and desperate so tried her literally 3 times but I think I'm going to give her some weetabix before bed tonight and see if it helps her sleep better because honestly she was up hourly last night but she only snacks on the boob so I'm wondering if it's not sustaining her anymore either if she doesn't sleep any better after it then I will hold off for another couple weeks but at this point I'm willing to try anything! X

Busylizzie85 · 23/11/2020 10:42

@mrssunshinexxx ivy did exactly that when her teeth came through at the bottom is there any sign of teeth?

OP posts:
Zoey92 · 23/11/2020 13:27

@mrssunshinexxx I've been giving LO a little bit of baby rice now in the morning or dinner for about 2weeks. She absolutely loves it

mrssunshinexxx · 23/11/2020 14:22

I can feel them a little hard under her gums but can't see any white yet @Busylizzie85 x

Smiffette · 23/11/2020 19:43

@mrssunshinexxx yep? Been weaning since 4 months, LO loves it

Magpie21 · 24/11/2020 21:37

I haven't started weaning yet but I've ordered 'Wean in 15' to try and get myself ready. I also had this free guide from Ella's kitchen which I need to give a read this week (you can get it online).

My LO seems happy with her 5 bottles a day. She had a fussy patch last week where she wasn't taking full bottles but I managed to remedy this by moving her up to the next teat size.

Sleep has been mostly OK apart from a few 3am crib parties (where she is wide awake for an hour).

No teeth yet but we have reached the dribble bib stage!

Missgemini · 24/11/2020 22:44

We aren't weaning yet. I've got 6 months stuck in my head, which is basically 3 weeks away! So excited to try him on different things!
He does look at us now when we eat, so he is getting interested for sure.

Is there a weaning protocol people are planning to follow? I've seen a few things online, but don't know if there is a definitive approach.

All of a sudden, over the last 2 days, he's suddenly rolling nonstop when you put him down! He gets himself into the crawling position, but gets frustrated that he can't crawl yet!

MrsMarrio · 24/11/2020 22:51

Had our first projectile vomit episode this morning. All over baby, sofa and floor. DH let me have a lie in until I got shouted 10 minutes later to help clean up.

New noise is currently a fake cough. Was very concerned yesterday morning when he started 'coughing' only to forget this noise until this afternoon.

Been trying him with baby rice and porridge in the mornings and he absolutely loves it! Unless DH makes and feeds him it in which case he gags!

No teeth but extreme dribbling.

And he's just a couch potato who has no interest in rolling!

He's a grumpy baby who huffs at me when I sing nursery rhymes to him! He's becoming quite a character!

mrssunshinexxx · 25/11/2020 07:45

@Missgemini there's no right and wrong there's so much advice out there just do what you feel is right. All I would say is the baby rice / porridge has no nutritional value you are better giving them proper porridge , weetabix etc
I have started giving my lo weetabix when we have our tea the last 2 nights as I was completely desperate with her sleep and she has gone from waking hourly to only waking twice so I'm carrying on with it ! It might be a coincidence but I'll never know !
She has had a few tastes of things with no pressure she also feeds herself weetabix I just steady the spoon as I do not want to force anything or spoon feed her ever.
She has sucked on strawberry , pear and had broccoli and peas on her tray to mess with just being v relaxed then by the time 6months plus hits hopefully she will be ready and raring and used to a lot of textures but not actually had much to eat x
