I’m glad Jia isn’t the only baby who can’t put herself to sleep independently most of the time. It seems normal for three months old but the way these sleep training people talk you’d think we’d all failed somehow... I’ve decided sleep training isn’t for me. Not right now anyway. It doesn’t feel right. And I have quite bad anxiety around SIDS and just feel like it’ll make it worse. I’m happy to cuddle her back to sleep in the night if she needs it for now. So grateful for this group and seeing we’re all going through similar things!

Magpie21 · 16/10/2020 09:21

@Blizy yes there are two magpies on this board :)I'm sorry you are having a bad time with the reflux, it must be so hard. Hopefully you can get out for walks to break up the long days. Good that Rose sleeps through the night to help you both catch up.

@SRS1311 that's a good development! I think when the time is right they get there on the settling front.

@UKtoSK I'm sure by 6 months we'll be in a different place with the sleep habits. It's nice to jump on here and know we are all going through the same things.

Gigitree · 16/10/2020 09:55

I felt the same way about sleep training @UKtoSK it just caused me to feel more stressed and anxious and like I was failing somehow!

I’m so glad we all have this group and we’re all experiencing similar things, most of the babies in my NCT group are good independent sleepers and are sleeping long stretches at night and in a lot of cases self settling or at least being able to be put down for naps. There’s only me and one other lady whose babies will only nap on us or in the pram/car and her baby is 5 weeks younger than mine so if it weren’t for this group I would be feeling so lost and inept!
I think some babies are born good sleepers, one of my nephews was a great sleeper and slept through the night from 12 weeks and my sister never had any issues with his sleep, but then his younger brother still doesn’t sleep through the night consistently at 1 year old!

SRS1311 · 16/10/2020 10:34

@Gigitree I think your right, I think there must be something theyre born with that makes them better sleepers. I know loads of people who have more than one children and one was a great sleeper and the other a terrible one! They say you dont have two babies the same - but I dont think I will be testing that theory! Grin

@magpie21 Tbh I probably simplified it and it's not as good as it sounds! - its quite hit and miss and often a battle to get him to nap. He doesnt sleep in the pram or car seat anymore and has never been comfortable sleeping on me so I dont really have a choice but to persevere with putting him in his sleepyhead and letting him get on with it! Haha

He woke up every 2 hrs last night - hello sleep regression!! Hoping that the ladies who are a few weeks ahead can soon tell us how the regression ended and give us hope...my wonder weeks app says 27 days remaining - argh god help me!!

Busylizzie85 · 16/10/2020 10:42

Totally agree with everyone regarding the sleep! No baby is the same as another and I think there is far far to much pressure put on mums about sleeping habits.
Ivy has 3 days left of this leap and will be 18 weeks on Saturday and no signs of her sleep getting better, this last week has been pretty bad with 2 hour awakenings and constant need to feed to sleep overnight.
Finally getting her birth registered today 😊

@Blizy and @Magpie21 2 for joy Grin

Mj2196 · 16/10/2020 12:09

@SRS1311
Jj is 19weeks tomorrow , apparently we have 17days left of the leap . We had 2 hour wake ups last night , butttt this is an improvement of constantly being up from 12am and he went back down in his snuzpod each time . Small mercies 😄

UKtoSK · 16/10/2020 12:21

Jia rolled over front to back yesterday for the first time! She did it three times in a row while I was Skyping my mum. It was her 70th birthday yesterday so it was like a birthday present for her! She’s obviously not been able to meet her yet since we are so far away.
Since she’s starting to roll I am starting the process today of ditching the swaddle. One arm out tonight. Wish me luck!

Magpie21 · 16/10/2020 12:32

@Magpiefeather I was going to say that 🌸😊

I've said it once and il say it again this group is the best! xx

mrssunshinexxx · 16/10/2020 13:58

@UKtoSK I feel the same , SIDS is always on my mind it's awful it's like I'm waiting to wake up and her not to be breathing 💔

SRS1311 · 16/10/2020 15:59

I'm really worried about SIDS and it was stopping be sleeping. I got the Snuza Hero MD which is a breathing monitor. Its really small and just clips onto his nappy and will sound an alarm if it detects hes not breathing. It gives me piece of mind and less anxiety at night. I got it on ebay for £30, I think they're about £80 brand new.

UKtoSK · 16/10/2020 23:51

@mrssunshinexxx I’m sorry you’ve been having the same anxiety. I think it’s inevitable when you’ve lost someone suddenly before as with my brother and your mum.

@SRS1311 it was stopping me sleeping too, although the frequent wakings with this sleep regression have helped a little. I’m sorry you’re going through the same thing.

If either of you ever want to dm me to chat in the middle of the night when you can’t sleep it’s my daytime! xx

UKtoSK · 16/10/2020 23:53

@SRS1311 oh and I’m glad that monitor has helped you. I kept thinking about buying one too but never did. Does it ever go off by mistake?

mrssunshinexxx · 17/10/2020 04:31

@SRS1311 for some reason I just didn't want to go down that route can't really put my finger on one. Surely if it was going to happen the heart would just stop regardless of an alarm going off ?
Sorry to be so matter of fact.
@UKtoSK that's definitely likely linked for us 😔 thank you dm me anytime x

SRS1311 · 17/10/2020 08:28

@UKtoSK aww that's great about the rolling...mine did it once or twice randomly but not attempted it again. It's funny when they roll over as I dont think they know what they've done! Yes, the monitor has gone off a couple of times. I think he is a wriggler which is why we have nappy leaks!

@mrssunshinexxx I know what you mean, I debated it too. Yes it wouldnt prevent his heart stopping but I suppose it would alert you within 10 secs which means you could get to them quickly to help. But mainly I think I just needed it so I could have some vague peace of mind. I was just so anxious at night, every 45 mins to an hr I was checking on him and it was exhausting. It hasnt got better with age either, I'm still like it now! At least in the middle of night I can think - the alarm isnt going off so must be okay. (Although I still sometimes check haha!)

Smiffette · 17/10/2020 09:17

Aww my LO rolled over yesterday for the first time! She then did it twice again this morning she gets her arm stuck though so winges a bit so I come and free her! Hopefully she will get stronger over the next weeks and be able to pull her arm out!

So cute! Or long until she's on the move!

mrssunshinexxx · 18/10/2020 04:07

@SRS1311 oh gosh I know, I dread to think how many times I put my hand on her to feel if she's breathing x

UKtoSK · 18/10/2020 11:58

@SRS1311 haha same, I bought some pampers swaddlers as everyone told me they don’t leak but they’re expensive and Jia still manages to have a poo leak at least once a day with them! She never keeps still.

Found out I was pregnant one year ago today! Can’t believe where that year has gone. I remember waiting a week and a half between appointments right at the start and feeling like it was a lifetime.

Magpie21 · 18/10/2020 12:40

@UKtoSK that is so lovely! Special day. I also remember my 'two week wait' - I didn't have many signs before taking the test other than ever so slight my more full boobs (could have been me looking into it though!).

I have such a fidgety napping baby today (all naps on me). Also, more dummy replacements last night then normal. I'm putting it down to teething pain. I need to get some teething gel - has anyone had any luck with any particular gels/granules?

Smiffette · 18/10/2020 18:55

Has anyone started weaning yet?

We've just finished the first week of giving DD baby rice (4-6 months) she really loves it! We only give it as something extra after lunch time feed.

Missgemini · 18/10/2020 19:41

@uktosk you just made me look up my date. Can't believe how much has changed in one year!

@magpie21 I know my LO is teething because he bites and chews everything. But we haven't given anything yet. My mum gave us a teething powder thing. If we think he's distressed we'll give him some.

@smiffette we are holding off until 6 months. I thought we had to. He seems happy enough with his boob, so we'll wait a bit longer

Smiffette · 18/10/2020 19:46

@Missgemini as there were things she could have and was showing interest I thought we would try... it's only a very small amount and not a replacement for a feed. Just for fun! She loves it though which is good!
You can start from 4 months if they are showing an interest and are able to hold themselves up...There was a link someone sent me to see when baby is ready, I'll see if I can find it and post here.

Smiffette · 18/10/2020 19:49

www.nhs.uk/start4life/weaning/ready-or-not/

She was showing all the readiness signs and a paediatrician in our group of mums said it's fine to start from 4 months if they are ready but equally down to leave until 6 months even if they are showing signs.

Missgemini · 18/10/2020 20:27

Oh ok, I see. I'm looking forward to when milk is not the main source of my son's nutrition, but he seems happy enough with his milk for now. I've even planned his first 'meal' Grin

Mj2196 · 18/10/2020 20:51

@Smiffette were also bf&will be doing blw so holding off for now! I weaned dd at 4.5 months with no probs though . She was a ff 11oz every 2 hours kind of girl😂
