Hi Bumper and Daisy

DH is still not back from golf yet! I was waiting for him so we could go to NCT sale together - it started at 12.45 - so there will probably just be a load of shite there by the time we get there so I think I'll give it a miss - there is another one next weekend that is a bit nearer - so I'll try to go to that.

Bumper - I am a member of NCT and I have to say it has been a lifesaver for me. I have made some great friends and we meet up at least once a week to compare notes, sob, moan about DH's etc etc! Some of us have even booked a ski holiday together (with babies as well!).
Do you know anyone who is a member? One of the girls from my local antenatal class was feeling a bit lonely and isolated (according to my HV) so I invited her to one of our meet ups - and hopefully she will keep coming.

riabutterflew · 29/09/2007 14:00

Hi all. I am stuck with the beginnings of a cold and a project on WW2 in the local area (to score brownie points with the teacher for having 2 days off school. I can't actually be arsed,, but dh can't do it because he's not from this area. we live in such an insignificant place there's bugger all on th internet and the library is shut til tuesday. bugger it. i want to go shopping.

I think it is wrong that it costs so much to join the nct. if you are vunerable(sp?) and in need of support you shouldn't be denied it because you can't afford it. just my opinion, having never been a member...

have a good day.

trendaverter · 29/09/2007 14:07

Ria I thought that until it was pointed out to me that the NCT allows those less financially well off to join at a reduced rate...I think you just need to ask/apply.

bumperlicious · 29/09/2007 14:31

You can join for a pound if you receive benefits (which I don't - yet). Bumps and babes that I go to is NCT, but you don't have to be a member, but the people who made friends are those who did antenatal classes together. I'll just keep going to the the groups and latch on to the nearest mother who gives me a smile!

Daisy, I understand about you feeling antesocial. I was like that during pregnancy. I think some of it is being so tired that you can't be arsed to make small talk.

I'm going to hold out till 6 months. I think I might try baby led weaning too, maybe with a bit of different purees for flavour. I think you are right though, I don't think that early weaning helps them sleep. My old school friend who is due any day now, when I spoke to her yesterday, said re DD "oh she'll be on solids soon'' (she hd a 2.5 yr old) I said no I was waiting till 6 months, and she said she wanted he new LO to be on solids as soon as possible so it will sleep 12 hours!

justbeme · 29/09/2007 14:35

Hi -
Yes Ria, if on benefits it only costs £1 I think to join - theres a special place on the application form/
I too didnt join Bumper and feel left out - some of the mums at baby massage know each other from there and they meet up every wednesday ('cos they talked about it in front of me!! - no invite though).
But Daisys right you dont have to be a member to do certain things (but then if your not invited its abit difficult isnt it??!!)

bumperlicious · 29/09/2007 14:49

It's hard making friends isn't it JBM? And I am a pretty outgoing person, I just haven't met anyone I have gelled with (apart from you guys of course!)

Daisy, I would consider being a bf peer supporter, but I think you have to bf for 6 months then be able to commit for 6 months, but I will be back at work by then.

trendaverter · 29/09/2007 15:05

it's bloody hard making friends.
I was lucky, my HV is 29 and from up north, we were talking about how hard it is making friends at our age...and anyway we became friends!!

Charlie999 · 29/09/2007 15:16

Afternoon ladies....had a fab time in West Wales...been home an hour and really should be unpacking.....off to catch up...hope everyone is well and had a good week? Have I missed anything?

DaisyABandyBoobToo · 29/09/2007 15:20

TA....I am usually quite an outgoing person and I suppose it's easy to come across like that over t'internet, but I really struggle with new people. I think it's all part of the PND. I'm going to ask my HV or my consultant about any post natal support groups. I used to go to a childrens' centre when DS was little and it was a godsend. I ended up getting really involved and was on the management committee before I went back to work. I used to go to two or three different activities through the week; a couple with DS and then he would be in the creche whilst I did various things like card making, computing etc.

I'm not sure there is anything like that near here.

I do have friends with young children, but they're all at work in the week. One of my BFs is due at the end of November though and she finishes up on ML in October. WE plan on doing something together once or twice a week. She's also offered to watch DD so that I can go swimming.

God I'm so bored today. I've just been asleep in the sofa with DD feeding for nealry an hour and DS sitting watching TV. I'm going for bad mother of the year award; i tripped going upstairs earlier and cracked DDs head off the wall . She cried a bit but seems OK itherwise.

foxybrown · 29/09/2007 15:43

I'm with you all the way there Daisy on both counts: can't be arsed with anybody and would happily crawl under the duvet with lo for cuddles until sometime next year.

Also cracked DD's head today - car door blew closed as I was putting her in. Remember, its best they cry after a bump!

It is hard to make friends, and takes a hell of a lot of perseverence and 'investment'. I know a lot of people around here because of it, but only have about two friends who matter. Its all very shallow and very cliquey. And when you think you get on with them, they basically ignore you when you talk to them, as happened yesterday and I'm still narked about it.

God, I'm a miserable cow.

justbeme · 29/09/2007 16:22

no you're not Foxy! - I think we all feel the same way.

riabutterflew · 29/09/2007 16:24

perhaps we should set up "can't be arsed anonymous".

I am not a sociable person at all, ever. (doesn't bother me either.) people scare me.

that said, i have just bumped into an old school sort-of-friend when i was dragging the boys to look at war memorials etc. her lo is older than baggins and she is back at work now, but i wouldn't mind being friendly a bit.

i don't think we have nct here except in town which is too far.

DaisyABandyBoobToo · 29/09/2007 16:27

I blame the weather for our collective misery....

I am so looking forward to my hols, but not at showing off my lardy body in a swimsuit. I have a nice sensible speedo swimsuit and am wondering whether to buy something a bit nicer? The complex has poolside fast tanning booths, LOL. I'm not nornally an advocate of sunbeds, but it might be quite fun to come home from the October hols with a bit of a tan?

Am off to look at tankinis

riabutterflew · 29/09/2007 16:31

foxybrown · 29/09/2007 16:39

I am still wearing my maternity swimsuit. Which I wore this very morning. Not a good look!

justbeme · 29/09/2007 16:40

glad you had a nice hol Charlie!
ohh the thought of putting a swimming costume on!

ive had a pooey day - literally!
L did a massive nappy
DD1 got dog poo on her top after the dog sat on her lap!
next doors dog keeps getting in our garden and doing loads of crap - as i picked it up 2 cheap nappy sacks ripped on me and i got dog poo over my fingers -

DaisyABandyBoobToo · 29/09/2007 17:47

sounds like a delightful day jbm.....poor you.

I bought a pair of trousers in sainsburys yesterday as i still ca't fit into any of my clothes. they're actually quite nice, black needlecord and boot cut. the waist is really high though, or maybe it just feels like that after my underbump maternity trousers.

can't see any swimmies I like.

glad you had a nice hol charlie!

daisy i saw your thread on weaning. i'm hlding out for 6 months too so we can be resolute together, despite my mother's "she'll need something else soon" (at 11 weeks)

tbh I can't be faffed so happy to hold on!

bumperlicious · 29/09/2007 18:06

mmm, it's dh's night to make dinner and making creamy salmon pasta from a recipe card i got in waitrose. if only he could learn to wash up as he's going along as i do for him!

trendaverter · 29/09/2007 18:28

I am exhausted
house (even the bathroom!) is clean
stuff is on ebay
and I just cooked fillet steak with roast pumpkin and made pecan pie for dessert

If DH doesn't put that goddamn shelf up now I am going to murder him, slowly, with a spoon.

Dontknowmyarsefrommyelbow · 29/09/2007 18:43

Jesus Fcking Christ - can someone please tell me why I am not loosing any fcking weight???!!!!!!
I am eating properly (and healthy stuff) I am running around like a blue arsed fly all day long - and I am exercising!
WTF!!??

bumperlicious · 29/09/2007 18:50

I with you DKMA, but I have given up dieting for the sake of my breast milk. I know you are not feeding much but maybe that is still having an affect on you retaining weight, though looking at your beautiful photos you have nothing to worry about.

My fear is that my body will NEVER go back to the way it used to You'll get there - 9 months on and all that crap!

Charlie999 · 29/09/2007 18:50

OMG I'm still on last Monday's chat!

bumperlicious · 29/09/2007 18:56
