HI all,

Henry spent a second night in his bedroom and wasn't woken up by his brother -hurrah on both counts! I b/f him a 5 from both boobs and then he took 4 1/2 ozs at 10.30, then mummy milk at 2 and again at 5.30 so are happy with that. He settled straight back to sleep.

We met friends for coffee today as dh had arranged it though he didn't mention that he would be playing the husband of the couple at tennis whilst the wife and I looked after our 4 kids. She was just as cross at her dh as I was mine as neither had mentioned this when they told us of the arrangements. Grrrrr, bl**dy husbands

dh cooking dinner now -hasn't dared ask if he could go to the tennis meet he normally goes to on a sunday night

Inzi - Their smiles melt your heart don't they!! Just wait until Jane says 'Mummy' or even better 'I love you mummy...'

Floria - So sorry fo you at the mo, the first anniversary of birthdays, Christmas etc are always the worst.

Dalrymps · 09/12/2007 19:18

hey everyone, hope you're all doing ok. Ds was unsettled last night, kept wanting to feed about an hour after he'd finished the last feed, had been feeding quite frequently all day actually... anyway, we eventually worked it out that we needed to add an extra ounce to his feeds cause it's obviously not enough anymore, once we did that he slept from 2am till 7am then 8am till 11am so a lot better, he's growing so fast i can almost see it happening. Expressing going quite well, was taking me 3 days to get 1oz but now getting about 3oz a day! not tried him on my boobs today or yesterday cause tried him twice on fri and although it wasn't too bad i got a graze on one nip that keeps bleeding and a crack on the other . So just expressing again whilst they heal, as long as he's getting some boobie milk each day i'm happy with that .
Stefka - glad your dh is behaving, so sorry you're still getting pain with feeding, you're a hero for keeping it up, you desreve a big medal, ignore SIL, you are a brilliant mummy, it's easy to preach about stuff you haven't even done yet, different once you're actually there! you never know, she might even ask your advice when things don't go quite as easily as she thought. try not to worry about the overnight stay, bet you'll feel like you've really achieved something once you've done it .
missbubmpy - so sorry to hear about your mastitis i've heard it's awful, hope it clears up soon. for you that things had to reach crisis point with dp but glad you've sorted it now.
choc - the swing sounds good would be tempted to get one but we're running low on living room space as it is with all the baby gadgets we've got so far, glad it seems to be amusing your lo, had a look at it on babies r us, sure looks fun!
alice - hi and hope everything is still going well for you.
apricot - my ds is quite small too, 6 weeks on tues and 8lb 1oz at last weigh in, was 6lb 5oz when born, what did yours weigh when born? Can't believe you're gonna fit in baking a xmas cake, i usually bake mince pies but don't know when i'll fit it in if at all
muppetgirl - hope your boobs are feeling less sore, my bf councillor told me you should always offer both boobs when feeding (which i hadn't been ) and that sometimes lo won't take the 2nd but sometimes will and might just want a thirst quenching drink of the foremilk, apparently they go drousy after the 1st boob fora few mins because of the rush of hormones they get from you but this is short lived and once they wear off they may decide they want a bit more... hope that helps anyway .
Floria - big hugs to you, sure christmas will be full of happy memories too with your lo, thinking of you...
inzi - oh i wish it would snow here! always feels so christmassy, how far away is fife from berwick upon tweed? do you know? hopefully the snow will blow this way . The smiles are the greatest thing ever, always realise i'm grinning from ear to ear whenever ds smiles at me or anyone for that matter, just wonderful!!!
Anyway hope everyone else is ok, off to get some tea before watching bon jovi on the royal variety performace, yes, i am a fan, have been since i was 14 and just can't let go... he's easy on the eye too
Catch ya later x

Evening all ... this weekend has been somewhat gruelling, and there's more to come ... what with seeing PiLs twice in 2 days, and having MiL turn her back on me and refuse to give Mairwen to me when she was utterly distraught becaue she was so overtired, I'm a tad overwrought myself!

I ranted at DH last night, but there's no way we could say anything to her about her behaviour at the moment, as she's in full-on hand-wringing mode at the moment.

C's partner was very composed - she's hating this stage, as she can't begin to try and start living life without C yet.

The funeral is on Wednesday - first at the farm, then at the chapel, then at Swansea Crematorium, then back to Llandeilo ... we'll probably not go back to Llandeilo, as it's 30 minutes in the wrong direction for us, and we'll be getting to the witching hour by then.

Grrrrrrrrrr about unhelpful Ps, Hs and SiLs ... my DH is wonderful, but it pisses me off that everybody thinks he's marvellous if he looks after both DCs for 2 hours so I can go to choir ... they're his children too, ffs!
He also promised to stay office-bound until at least after Christmas ... and is reneging on that promise, and is off on site tomorrow ... I have to admit that I'm really not looking forward to it - Rhydian is coming down with something fluey, Mairwen is going to be an absolute joy tomorrow after her 2 days of being jigged and bounced (bloody PiLs!) ... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

Feel better now, after that rant!

Muppetgirl, LLL supports women who are bf - no matter how much or how little - it's really nobody's business but yours how you feed your lo - so stuff disapproving bf counsellors - if it works for you, then it's right - you are the mother - you know your child the best of anybody!

p.s. the nights of sleeping through haven't lasted ... never mind, at least I had a little taster of what they can be like!

Off to watch Strictly now ... DH is putting Rhydian to bed as a penance ...

love to all!

muppetgirl · 09/12/2007 20:07

Hi

Henry had his 5 oclock feed and fed from one boob and then the other. At 6.50 I then gave him f/f and he took 2ozs. Put to bed at 7 and its now 8 and he's screaming his head off in bed. He'd fed, winded, clean and very tired. If I go in and pick him up he stops crying but if I put him down he screams again.

what to do....what to do.....

dh wants to feed him (he always wants to feed him!)

ejt1764 · 09/12/2007 20:24

muppetgirl - I get this with Mairwen too ... she fed from 4.30 - 5ish (then we both had a little sleep), then from 6-7 (with a break in between for a bath), then went to bed at 7, woke up at 7.45, and I've just managed to put her down again - goodness knows how long she'll sleep this time!

It's as though there's a magic switch attached to her cot - every time I put her in, the switch flicks, and her eyes ping open ... she sucks her hands (meaning feed me), so we start all over again.

Oh, and I'm doing this single-sided feeding thing - my boobs have a very fast let-down, and it's the only way I've found to not drown her at every feed!

Right, now to try and watch Strictly (again)!

No such luck - Mairwen is demanding my attention again ...

Dalrymps · 09/12/2007 20:41

muppetgirl - my ds was exactly like this last night too, was on 3oz of formula and feeding about every 2 hours but feeds were getting closer and closer and he wouldn't go to sleep properly last night so we've upped it to 4oz a feed now and doing better today, finished his last feed at 6pm and still asleep at the moment and not demanding more, does get ebm occasionally but usually have top him up a bit after that. Obviously it's different for you cause you're mainly bf so guess you're just feeding on demand, it's a tough one isn't it, they're all different too, you're the best judge of what lo needs, just follow your instincts . God, watching the royal variety performance, having to sit through some rubbish waiting for bon jovi to come on!

muppetgirl · 09/12/2007 20:43

Have just 'left boobed' him and still not happy so dh has gone to 'bottle' him!!

Ollie screamed if we held him and screamed if we didn't so we put him down and he screamed himself to sleep but Henry LOVES to be held and it's so hard not to just hold him all the time...

Really strange as during the day he doesn't even cry that much. Only to tell you he's hungry and then he feeds and looks about or sleeps.

Dh back down now and says H took a couple of sucks and then didn't want anymore of the bottle so not sure what the problem is.

muppetgirl · 09/12/2007 20:45

....it's oh so quiet

shhhhh

shhhhh

shhhhh

.....it's oh so still

Dalrymps · 09/12/2007 20:57

oh, hopefully he's dropped off to sleep

muppetgirl · 09/12/2007 21:17

and we're off again

dh has gone up to rock him.

MrsFish · 09/12/2007 21:27

Have I missed Bon Jovi (what a dreamboat)??? I wanted to watch the RVP but totally forgot about it, I've been writing xmas cards and watching miss congeniality, I'm slowly losing the will to live, still so many cards to write Put the tree up today, much more difficult with a toddler wanting to help

I'm sorry I'm not going to catch up with everyone individually, need to carry on with the cards before I lose my inclination

FloriaTosca · 09/12/2007 21:45

....And so peaceful untill....!!!!

Long may it last but dont hold your breath if he is anything like alex

FloriaTosca · 09/12/2007 21:49

Hi All
Thanks all of you for the virtual tea and sympathy. I would probably not have been quite so over emotional if I hadn't got the worry of Alex throwing up a gallon of milk every time I feed him, I've been so worried incase he dehydrates or worse....actually I got a bit smug today as we went to Matlock to meet up with friends from Somerset and exchange christmas pressies and by controlled feeding (30sec/1 min/1.5 mins/ 2 mins etc) we managed to have no vomiting/complete clothing change from first feed at 7am 'till we got home at 7pm, but sadly once home I relaxed and allowed him to feed too much and so I have just finished bathing us both and putting all our clothes in the washing machine...I'm contacting the hv again tomorrow to see if this is something seriously wrong.
Inzi; Glad I'm not the only one who cries at smiles...for 4 weeks he has been doing it now and I'm still blubbing because he is so very wonderful!
Choc; we have the fisher price rainforest playmat and baby gym and Alex absolutely adores it..especially in forest noises mode ...we were given a take-along swing by sil but if we hadnt already got that I'd have bought the rainforest one too.
Well another exhausting weekend over..off to bed ..and still no decorations up or cards done
g'night all

Dalrymps · 09/12/2007 22:00

MrsF - No you haven't missed bon jovi, they still haven't ben on, keep watching

Apricott · 09/12/2007 22:43

dal - my LO was 8lbs born - he's just a bit of a slow grower - he's bright and cheerful and has chubby cheeks and thighs though, so it's not a problem - it's just that when compared to other babies - like our next door neighbour the same age - he looks like a wee pixie baby

he's in bed now ...

ejt - sorry to hear you've had a tough w/end - and I'm so sorry to hear about C - thinking of you and your DH. It's so sad. And Floria - thinking of you too.

Where do you live Inzi to get snow? We're just being rained on very hard down here - no fun at all.

I can't go to bed 'cos dd's school trousers are still in the wash and need drying once they've finished - my own fault for forgetting to put them in earlier. Harumph!
Still haven't put that fruit to soak either ...

ejt1764 · 09/12/2007 23:00

FT - I'd take lo to the GP, and get him checked for pyloric stenosis - your hv, lovely though she may be, isn't a doctor!

Mairwen was checked for this when we discovered the problem was reflux - definitely getit checked out ...

Right, am now going to bed, we've had another horrendous evening with Mairwen - hopefully this means she'll sleep through ... please?

Dalrymps · 09/12/2007 23:05

Apricot - Oh so your lo's just petite , mine looks like a pixie too, nothing wrong with a slow grower, they don't make diamonds the size of bricks you know

Hi all

Well the rocking worked and he slept. Dh fed him at 11 and he slept till 3am, mummy milk then and then again at 6am. I think I'm going to have to accept that evey couple of days he's awful in the evenings but once he gets to sleep he stays asleep.

How were Bon Jovi? I saw Russell Brand and he was a little close to the mark

Rainning here at your snow Inzi, which is a shame as I wanted to walk to the b/f group but will drive as I will have Ollie with me.

Anyone know where I can buy baby boys cardigans/jumpers WITHOUT hoods?

speak later
x

Collywobbles · 10/12/2007 09:37

Morning Lovely Ladies..another couple of days to catch up on! It's been a really up and down few days. I really feel for those of you having problems with feeding and whose LO's never seem satisfied! Last week became ridiculous with me glued to the sofa feeding until Jacob fell asleep then trying to put him down, him crying and hand sucking so feeding him again and so on and so on...didn't get anything done and felt physically and emotionally drained by it all. On Friday the PIL's came to save me...I had a hair appt so they babysat while also cleaning the house and doing our ironing! They also bought this cover thing that you can put on our pushchair to make it more of a pram. Well, J settled so much better in it so now instead of a mat on the floor, I now put him in his pram when we're downstairs. It looks so comfy I quite fancy snuggling down in it too! Saturday was our best day yet...I managed to BF J for all his day feeds and just gave him a formula top up at 10.30pm (he's such a greedy guts, it takes 5-6oz to satisfy him!!)

Stefka · 10/12/2007 09:40

Hey Inzi I didn't know you were in Scotland! I am based in Falkirk although I am from the Angus area originally.

I am off back that way to see my brother's baby. Hopefully she will be too obsessed with it to give me any lectures or be too smug. Think I am too emotional to deal with it right now. Bit nervous about having an overnight trip with Dareh but hopefully if it goes well it will give me more confidence.

Dalrymps · 10/12/2007 09:45

hey everyone! ds doing well now we're giving him an oz more, slept from 11pm till 3am then 4am till 9am , just expressing whilst dh feeds him now. Ordered my hugabub on fri, really hope it comes today but no sign of it yet, anyone else ordered one and know roughly how long they take to come?
Muppetgirl - Bon Jovi were great, finished the show well, they were all dressed in suits which was strange to see, if you thought Russel Brand was bad you should have seen Joan Rivers, she swore like a trooper and refered to Paul Pots as 'fatty' , she was quite funny though...
inzi - thanks for sending the snow will look out for it , glad you had a nice time at chiquito's, last time i had a meal out was 15th oct (wedding anniversary), used to love going to frankie and bennys but it's 60 miles away in newcastle, maybe when ds a little older we'll venture down that way...
Anyway better get up and washed and dressed, by the way, how does everyone else keep their lo's amused whilst they're in the shower?

FloriaTosca · 10/12/2007 09:53

muppet; mothercare have a couple of lovely cardis for boys (hoodless)..I was in the big one in Blackburn on Saturday and had to resist one in particular (Alex has enough clothes to sink a battle ship!)
inzi; your snow too. Alex too was feeding like Jane (long may she remain that way)until last week...never sick, not even possetting and rarely even a little belch...all his problems were lower intestine, severe wind and colic..it is only since he turned 10 weeks that this shocking sickness thing has happened.
EJT; thanks for the advice, I thought about stenosis too but according to my book it should have reared its ugly head at about 4 weeks or sooner and this sickness only appears to be when I breastfeed him, or at least when I allow him to breastfeed uninterrupted ... DH fed him 6oz at 1am from a breastflow bottle which took him 20 mins to take and there wasn't a sign of sickness, the previous 8pm feed when he did the "omen" thing he had been winded every 30-60 secs for 5 mins, had drained (or so it felt) my right boob and I had just put him on the left when he suddenly poured what looked like half a pint back out. He obviously doesnt expect it to happen and doesn't feel full or he would have slowed down/stopped sooner, and once the shock of nearly drowning from the inside out is over he usually wants to feed again...I really think it is more like something to do with my let down making him swallow too much air (he never used to need much winding, but now he belches like a docker!)but I am going to take your advice and phone the doctor instead of the HV, as you said, the HVs dont know it all.
Right he's dropped off to sleep, chance to phone the DR at last

muppetgirl · 10/12/2007 10:19

Dal - I use a chair like this one to put him in when I am doing anything around the house -cooking, ironing etc. This is afab chair as it hold him wonderfully, it goes completely flat so he can nap in it. I put a warm blanket over him and he loves it as he can watch us all! I do also have this one which was a bragain from Asda but the newborn head protector thing isn't actually attatched so Henry's head flopped about all over the place. I think it's more for when they are older and can hold their head in place. It's also really upright which we found a problem as he's a wriggly baby!

Joan Rivers called Paul Potts fatty!!!! Wish I'd seen that!

MrsFish · 10/12/2007 10:42

Dal - I have a chair similar to this for Ben, he spends most of his time in it, and sleeps in it during the day

I am so lucky with Ben, he doesn't dribble or drool, has thrown up (a tiny amount) just twice in nearly 10 weeks, only really cries for food or if he needs a poo or wants a bit of attention. Last night he had a feed at 7pm and slept from 8pm till 4.30 this morning, then again from 5.30 am till 8am. He is now on 6-7oz bottles and guzzles them down in about 15 mins. Will get him weighed thurs Sam also had a lie in, went to bed at 7.30pm and didn't get up till just after 9am this morning Sorry to be so smug I am just so happy as I can remember how bad it was with Sam when I was bf'ing and I am just so glad I went the ff route this time, life is much nicer and I feel much happier and calmer

I recorded the end of the RV last night and watched it this morning... Jon Bon Jovi is as gorgeous as ever [swoon] and Joan Rivers made me laugh when she slipped up and said the f word

Inzi - glad you had a good meal, I'm also envious of the snow, nothing but rain and wind here, although the sun is finally out at the moment, how long it will last I don't know.

We are off the MiL's this afternoon, she is making mince pies so she is going to get Sam to help Hope everyone has a good day xx
