I couldn't find a postnatal thread - not sure if I am just missing it with post-childbirth brain! Anyone else around??

Mumpbump · 05/12/2007 13:41

Missbumpy - I think the vaccine can give them a slight temperature, but you can give them a one-off dose of calpol at 2 months so make sure you have some in.

Colly - ds1 fed every 1.5 to 2 hours (3 hours overnight) until he was weaned and slept through for the first time at 5 months which I think is pretty normal for bf babies. Ff babies can go much longer between feeds and sleep through much earlier. One of my friends introduced a ff last thing at night to help her get some sleep.

EJT - what an idiot of a head teacher!

Ds1 in nursery so managing to get some housework done. My neighbour came around though for a cup of tea which has rather killed my sleep. Whenever she calls in, she stays for the best part of two hours. She is lovely, but doesn't seem to understand that Wednesdays is my one chance to get stuff done around the house and spend one on one time with ds2...

hi all

henry slept from 10.30pm - 3.30am - 6.30am

last night we are making progress!!!
he is still b/f but the f/f at 10/10.30 really helps him sleep and us too.
he does feed A LOT early evening though so that knackers me out. I even ready Ollie his bedtime stories whilst b/f

b/f in public is going really well still. the tops from mothercare are really great as you can wear them as vests under cardi's and when you need to feed nothing shows.never thought i would do it but are
bought a baby monitor today as h is going into his room in a couple of weeks. this means we get the living room back as that's where he's been sleeping (our living room is on the middle floor next to our bedroom, h's bedroom is on the top floor)also got a crib bumper so we're all set now.

stefka - did you manage to get to the b/f group today?

hope all are well
x

Stefka · 05/12/2007 17:54

Sadly no. Stupid delivery men were two hours late. Also despite being told twice that I would need time to answer the door because of anew baby the rang the bell then started banging on the door when I didn't answer straight away. Sods law they arrived when I was feeding too. DH just rang to tell me he can't get away from work until 8 so he won't be here till half past 8/9. It's a long day when you are at home alone. Dareh is really unsettled today and is feeding more. My right side is really painful today.

I will check out mothercare for tops - thanks for the tip!

ejt1764 · 05/12/2007 17:56

H&M also do nice bf tops ... I have several of their mock black wrap type ones ...

I've also got a couple of wrap cardis that I wear with a vest top underneath - I then hoik up the vest, but the wrap top stays firmly in place.

muppetgirl · 05/12/2007 18:01

about delivery men. not fair of your dh it's a long day on your own..

do you have any plans tomorrow?

muppetgirl · 05/12/2007 18:02

ooh ta ejt didn't think if h&m

PolarMummy · 05/12/2007 18:24

Hi everyone need a little advice please. Not sure if Zoe is getting enough milk! I haven't had her weighed for 2 weeks so I dont know if or how much weight she has put on I am hoping to get her weighed tomorrow so that should let me know.

I am mainly giving Zoe ebm so I can put carobel in it, I am giving her a 3 minute BF at each feed (timed to allow the carobel to thicken) and then offering her a 4oz bottle and the idea is then to BF her again at the end once she has taken the carobel however I am struggling to get the 4oz bottle into her! She is also going longer between some of her feeds, at the moment she is feeding every 4-5 hours during the day but will go up to 6 hours at night.

I would really appreciate your thoughts on Zoe's feeding, do you think she is getting enough? Or should I just wait until tomorrow, get her weighed and take it from there?

Sorry for the me me me post but I just really don't know who else to ask!

Mumpbump · 05/12/2007 18:30

Depending on how efficient she is, she could be getting most of her feed in the first 3 minutes. Both my ds only feed for 5-10 minutes maximum at any time and seem to get all they need. Perhaps give her the bottle first?

AnyasMum07 · 05/12/2007 18:51

Well we've had a good day today - dd slept really well last night after some more calpol and no more tears since. We went to playgroup this morning which she loves, and she's crashed out all afternoon. She's slept so much she's completely missed a feed but I haven't the heart to wake her. Plus I've got loads of stuff done!

missbumpy - the needle does hurt but it's short-lived so after a cuddle my lo fell asleep. It's the vaccine that makes them feel ill afterwards - they've had about 6 diseases injected into them after all. Calpol does seem to work though.

ejt - I thought dd smelt different too - I put it down to switching from bf to formula but maybe it is to do with the jabs. How strange. Ignore the headmaster by the way - always trust your instincts.

Stefka · 05/12/2007 19:21

No plans no. If the weather is nice I will try and make sure I go for a walk. It was bloody awful here today though.

I gave Dareh his bath as DH is not here and as soon as I popped him in he both pooed and peed! Babies can be such a delight!

J2O · 05/12/2007 19:43

hi all,

polarmummy, how old is lo now? doesn't sound too bad, although Shannon has quite a lot more ff than that but she is nearly 9 weeks, at least your getting it into her, is she quite settled?

haven't scrolled down to read much more, have got excruitiating toothach that i'm nearly crying with, can't get into dentist till tommorrow and lo has got her jabs too, oh she's crying again, will be back when i can, hope your all ok xxx

PolarMummy · 05/12/2007 20:31

Mump I really give her the 3 minute BF to calm her while waiting for her bottle to thicken, she can go from "I think I am hungry" to "GIVE ME MY FOOD NOW" in an instance and she then cries until the bottle is ready.

J20 Zoe was 9wks on Monday, she is generally very settled she only really cries when she is waiting for her bottle or has wind and she is sleeping for anything from 20mins to 4hrs between feeds but is quite happy to lie in her carry cot awake or sit in her bouncy chair

muppetgirl · 05/12/2007 20:36

Stefka - I would definately try to go out for a walk tomorrow even if it's just for 5 mins...lol at your lo pooing and peeing in the bath. Henry pooed his nappy just after his fresh nappy had been put on after his bath

J20 -Good to hear from you sorry about your tooth

Polarmummy - Henry feeds for about 10-15 mins (at the most) from my breast and goes 3-4ish hrs (though not today ) he gets the punch drunk look when he's finished. I do try to put him on again but he generally gets enough from his short slurp. Ollie used to feed for 40 mins sometimes every 1 1/2 hrs. No wonder I gave up at 6 weeks with him!
I would get Zoe weighed before worrying to much (I know that's hard, I'm currently worrying over H's gunky eyes..) is she weeing + pooing plenty of nappies for you to change? Do you think she's growing? Is she active and happy? Those are also just as important things to watch for.

Mrs Fish - A rat in the loft

Mumpbump · 05/12/2007 20:43

I agree with muppetgirl, polarmummy. Also, provided she is producing wet nappies and does at least one poo a day or several little ones, it should mean she's getting enough. If the poos are greenish, it can mean she is getting too much foremilk and not enough hindmilk which might mean she's not getting enough, but otherwise, I'd assess her growth on a fortnightly basis, provided she isn't actively losing weight. At least that's what I'm doing with ds2 who can still be a bit fussy on the breast and "fell off" the 25th percentile a fortnight ago, but is back on track this week...

Muppetgirl - apparently breastmilk in the eyes is a really good cure for sticky eye. Never quite managed that one myself, but opted for wiping ds' eyes with cool boiled water every hour or so. That usually helps clear it up within a day or two...

polar-meant to say Shannon is a little porker, i think she has quite a lot for her age, agree with everyone else, if she seems settled i'd say shes doing well and your doing great

am on the whisky now for my tooth, i've put shannon in her cradle and turned the monitor on, she's been up there 15 mins and no crying yet! so i'm off for a bath and bed

Dalrymps · 05/12/2007 23:05

Hey everyone, got ds weighed today, he's up to 8lb 1oz so has out on about 7oz in past week, so doing well .Choc - Feeding and expressing going ok, progress is slow but progress never the less, it was taking me 3 days to express an ounce but now i mnaged to get an ounce in 24hrs so definately improving, i put ds to the breast yeasterday to see if i could feed him without pain and also stimulate myself to produce more milk, it didn't hurt but ds enjoyed himself so much he stayed on for 1 hour 25 mins !!!! i had to take him off in the end cause i was starving and wanted my tea, he must have just ben getting tiny amounts so planned to stay on till he got what he wanted, dh gave him some formula after and he slept well last night, from 1 till 6 then 6.30 till 9 . MrsF, how annoying you've got a noisy rat, hope it clears off soon! Stefka - sorry you're still getting pain when feeding, you're doing really well though to keep at it, really admire you, can understand how soul destroying it is when you're just trying to do your best, hope you manage to get out for a walk .
Muppet - ds has one sticky eye, it's really annoying, we were cleaning it with boiled water/boiled water and pinch of salt/ and tried breast milk but was still sticky so got some cream from the docs that we have to put in 3 times a day but it's still sticky!!! guess we'll just have to keep cleaning it...
Anyway hope everyone else is ok, ds has fallen asleep so gonna grab the oppertunity and get off to bed, catch ya later

Stefka · 06/12/2007 11:07

Morning all - hope you all got some sleep last night. Dareh is sleeping less and less each night for some reason. He is still awake all evening but he got me up at half four today.

I feel a bit low today. DH has to work until ten last night so he is exhausted too. He upset me last night though by telling me I should sleep when the baby sleeps. This is great advice but not so simple to follow if I want to eat, have a shower, make his lunch for tomorrow and make the tea. There is no bloody time for me to sleep during the day. I am really grumpy today - just tired and fed up of being in pain all the time.

Stefka · 06/12/2007 11:11

I am so tired I forgot to add the bit that upset me! When I tried to explain that I had no time to sleep in the day and that it was difficult he came back with 'Other people manage'. Nice.

Dalrymps · 06/12/2007 12:09

Hey everyone, sorry haven't read other posts yet, just a quick question... have had some pain with my stitches from my 3rd degree tear over past few days so going to maternity unti for them to check it out as i can't get a doctors appointment, anyway now i've got another problem which i'm not sure is related or not (advanced appologies for the extreme TMI )... when i go for a, ahem, 'number 2' it feels like razor blades, wondered if i might have piles but don't know what they feel like, anyone else had anything similar? this has only started in past few days... Any advice greatly appreciated

Inzi - not sure about the cries in her sleep but Anya's just been through a similar thing with chewing her hands/knuckles. Turns out she's been trying to work out how to suck her thumb and it's taken her days to get even remotely co-ordinated. She's quite good at it now except when she's very tired, then it all goes wrong, much to her frustration!

Stefka · 06/12/2007 13:01

Good point - my line can be other husbands can manage!
