I feel a bit like I'm gate-crashing here. I've been using mn for months for advice but not posted before - but I thought it was about time!

dd is now 8 weeks - born 7 Oct and she's just had her first jabs. She was good as gold in the surgery - hardly cried before going back to sleep, but she's been a little monster since we got home - she won't eat or sleep. Anybody else having that problem?

Hi and welcome Anyasmum! Adam (ds2) has been a little horror all weekend after his jabs on Friday - thankfully he slept better last night and is a bit happier today... Try her with some paracetamol - it helped both ds1 (Sam - now 22 months) and 2 after their jabs.

Well we have had fun today. Went out to meet dh for lunch. Just as we were about to arrive I got the horrible sinking feeling that I had left the formula at home!! So had to make mad dash to boots for a couple of cartons (had remembered the bottles of water). The what will you know Adam slept for an hour and a half! Oh well!

alicet · 04/12/2007 16:18

Inzi cross posted - good to hear from you! Have also been worrying about J2O and was going to mail her... Babybrain haze means I can't remember what age Sam did stuff but I agree that sounds early! Clever girl!

AnyasMum07 · 04/12/2007 16:37

Thanks alicet, glad to know I'm not alone. Have given dd some calpol though she spat half of it back out. She has screamed blue murder since and dh is the only one who can settle her. Have just been upstairs and both are flat out asleep on the bed - ahh! Hopefully she will wake feeling a bit better.

4 weeks does sound very early inzi - clearly a clever baby! dd was lifting her head at 6 weeks and she can now lift her chest a bit too but she's been diagnosed with achondroplasia so all her motor skills will be delayed a bit in developing.

J2O · 04/12/2007 17:22

hi guys, found you again.

inzi-what a clever girl! lo not you ;)

right gotta go again, but just wanted to post so i can find you again later, hopefully xx

MrsFish · 04/12/2007 17:38

Hi Anyasmum - My ds had his jabs today too. Screamed blue murder for all of 30 seconds and then was smiling again soon after He has had two bottles since though of 6oz, so no problems feeding He has been a bit unsettled since his last feed at 4.30 though, he is acting as if he wants more, but I have tried and he doesn't. I may just give him some calpol to be sure though

alicet - Had my coil fitted this afternoon... make sure you take a sanitary pad with you for afterwards. It was a bit uncomfortable having it fitted, not too bad, but I am now experiencing quite bad period type pains. Have taken a couple of Anadin so I hope it goes away soon. DH isn't going to be pleased about having to wait another week to get jiggy I really am struggling to get in the mood tbh but DH is getting increasingly horny (tmi?)

Off out to Ikea when dh gets back from work, need to get some shelving for Sam's room to house all his teddies and books, then a bite to eat somewhere

buffythenappyslayer21 · 04/12/2007 18:51

buffythenappyslayer21 · 04/12/2007 18:56

just a quick question, has anyone else been sterilised?just had the af from hell, not sure if its because its my first one after giving birth,or if its because i was sterilised!!!

Collywobbles · 04/12/2007 20:32

Hi All - just wanted to check in while I get a rare moment to go online. The health visitor came yesterday and Jacob had gone from 8lbs 11 to 9lbs since Friday so another good weight gain. The only thing is, I don't know if this is due to formula top ups rather than bf...I decided to bf exclusively from then until tomorrow when midwife is coming and will weigh him again and that way, if he puts on weight again, i'll now that bf is working ok! The only thing is, he has done nothing but demand feeding the whole time. I feel really exhausted and discouraged because I can't seem to satisfiy him with just bf....As soon as I start to feed him he falls asleep but as soon as I put him down, he starts to cry! I'm really starting to reach melting point and I know DH is really fed up and doesn't really understand why I'm so determined to BF when formula seems to make him so much more contented! I tried to call the NCT advice line today but couldn't get through...has anyone else had similar problems?

Mumpbump · 04/12/2007 20:45

I am sure formula must knock them out more which makes for more content baby. TBH, unless you have other pressing stuff to do, if I were you, I'd get a boxset of DVDs and some mags and just resign yourself to sitting on the sofa for a couple of days and see what happens. If he falls asleep on you and stays asleep, then it is not hunger that is waking him up. Ds1 always used to wake up when I put him down in his cot and I ended up having to do a modified form of controlled crying to help him learn how to settle himself. Joe seems much better able to settle himself despite being carried around in sling and co-sleeping.

hey everyone, welcome Anyasmum07, nice to have a newby on here, hey buffy, glad your back connected and like the new house! J20 - god to hear from you again, hope all is well.
Stefka - glad your hv is keeping an eye on you if you're feeling down, just keeo talking to them if you feel no better, they'll be able to help , hope your lo's cold clears up soon. well the expressing is still going well, getting more each time, managed to scrape together a whole ounce and gave it him, he loved it . Anyway off to look at hugabubs and decide what colour to get, catch ya later

Mumpbump · 04/12/2007 20:47

Remember that weight gain can stop and start a bit so re-weighing in a couple of days might not be a good indicator.

Hey buffy! Great to hear from you and great news Scarlette is doing so well!

Colly - I'd totally second Mumps advice - with Sam I just got myself settled on the sofa with my laptop, the remote control and a good book and ended up basically bf all day! Would have carried on bf this time if it wasn't for the fact that that sort of behavious wasn't possible with a toddler too - if you're managing mump hats off to you!

MrsFish ta for the advice on the coil! Hope the pains settle soon...

Hello everyone else!

alicet · 04/12/2007 21:38

Colly the opther thing is to make sure he is really properly awake before you feed him - have you tried stripping him to his nappy for a feed? My mw suggested this with Adam and it worked really well - almost too well in fact as he then wouldn't settle after so we ended up compromising on feeds in sleepsuits only. Another thing we did was to change him mid feed when he started to dose off so he woke again. Its not necesary anymore but might be worth you giving this a go?

Collywobbles · 04/12/2007 23:52

Thanks Mump and Alice - I feel a bit better to know that it's not abnormal to be feeding non stop! How long did this constant feeding last with you? Did your LO's eventually settle into more of a routine?

MrsFish · 05/12/2007 06:04

My Sam fed 8-9 times in every 24hr period until he was weaned onto food at six months. One of the reasons I am ff Ben

Stefka · 05/12/2007 08:51

Morning all. Welcome Anyays mum.

Well Dareh seems to have gone backwards with his sleep. He was sleeping 12-8, then last night it was six and today he got me up at five. I just can't get to sleep once I am awake so I am super tired this morning. The BF support group is on today but I am going to see how the day goes and see how Dareh is feeling too.

alicet · 05/12/2007 08:52

Sam settled into more of a routine at about 12 weeks. However I have to say that I was never really sure if he was tired or hungry (he used to sleep mostly while feeding) until he moved onto formula just before 6 months. I found it really difficult with bf to know that he was full after a feed and if he cried would always offer to feed him knowing it would settle him either way whether he was hungry or tired. So probably didn't help myself really!

ejt1764 · 05/12/2007 09:22

morning all ... we had the day from hell yesterday ...

I had a phone call from A (who takes Rhydian to school) to say that he'd fallen out of the car whilst getting in, and had landed on his head - she brought him round for me to have a good look at him, so I gave him a cuddle, 2 tspns of Calpol and sent him to school ... (I can imagine me saying "well, your arm's not falling off completely, so you're fine!" )

Mairwen had her injections yesterday - she started with a low pitched scream which got higher and higher and higher ... she got so hysterical that she made herself sick ... then was screamy and unsettled all day - absolutely horrendous - it was like a return to the bad old days before Gaviscon!

Then, about 20 minutes after I'd got back from my Tescos trip after M's vaccinations (decided to share my screaming baby ), Rhydian's headteacher phoned - conversation went as follows:

HT- Did you know Rhydian had had a fall this morning?
me- well yes, but I had a look at him and he was fine.
HT - we put some ice on it this morning, but the bump is not going down, and he's complaining of having a really nasty headache - wwe really feel that this has gone on too long.
me - I'll come and get him, and slip him up to the minor injuries unit at Barry hospital (feeling like the world's worst mother)
HT - I think that's a good idea. (sarcasm dripping out of every pore! or it seemed like it)

So, I went and picked Rhydian up, and I kid you not, he skipped down the path to the car park (was a bit with him!), but took him to the hospital, and they pronounced him absolutely fine ... I was going to take him back to school, but couldn't face seeing the Headteacher again, so brought him home.

All this time, Mairwen is screaming and fussing, and being somewhat unsettled (bit of an understatement!)

Then my mum and dad pitch up at our place as we were off out to our Welsh class Christmas dinner - I out Mairwen to bed, and she was out cold when I left ... when we got back (we had a lovely time), she was downstairs with mum and dad, and still somewhat unsettled.

My boobs were full and we didn't have any milk out - Mairwen had completely refused to take any milk from the bottle from mum or dad, so I fed her, and put her to bed ... and she woke up at 645am ... I on the other hand, woke up every hour from 330am - and at one point had to lean over her crib to check she was still alive!

I fed her at 645am - and she promptly fell back to sleep ... and is still asleep! I'll be going to wake her up after I've typed this mammouth post!

Quick question - if you've read this far without losing the will to live:

Has anybody else noticed that their babies smell funny after they've had their jabs? I have the world's most sensitive sense of smell (which is why I don't use disposable nappies, as I can't stand the smell!), but she smells really strongly of yeasty / biscuity type of smell ...

Very odd ...

Oh, and yes, I have a calin bleu sling (in fact I have 2 - I have a fleece one which I can't use as it makes me too warm - our house is always warm - it would suit if you lived in a cold house!) If anybody wants it, I'm happy to let you have it at the price I paid for it (£18 & postage at cost)

ChocolateHobnob · 05/12/2007 10:40

Hi all

Didn't make it here yesterday! Had a friend over with her 19 week old, who seems enormous next to Rebecca. I think he is big for his age anyway but he felt so heavy! V cute though.

Sorry Ejt about the headmaster... good Rhydian was fine, but it must be annoying to be made to feel like inept parent when you're not!

Stefka, re the sleeping, it sounds like Dareh's sleeping was out of this world - to be honest I'd be glad if R slept as much as one of your bad nights! Sorry but I think broken nights are par for the course. I am sure it's worse for you cos of the feeding problems...

Dal, how's your feeding?

Welcome Anya's mum!

Well, we had an awful evening Mon night and then a great night - little Missy tired herself out I think. Then yesterday I got toothache, well more accurately gum ache - my gum is swollen. I got all worried - R is 3 weeks old, my dentist is up a huge flight of stairs in the city, it involves waiting interminably and it's the gum next to the tooth that needs root canal, so I know it won't be a one apptment jobbie. I can't take R in the pram on my own because I can't lift it around yet and also couldnt get it up the stairs at the dentist. I haven't expressed yet (well I did once on day 4 but not since!) and DH's work is mad. So I panicked. Today gum is still swollen but not sore. I've decided to leave it a day or two to ring the dentist for an emergency apptment and try to express at some point so I can have my mum or DH come and feed R if necessary while I wait wait wait in the dentist (it's an NHS one and the waits are interminable). I know I'm being feeble but it's a bit scary. I reckon if I could go say Monday, I could practise expressing on the weekend when DH is here and it might be easier...

R's sleeping is much better - nothing like the magic amount some of your los get, but much less ridiculous, i.e. she does go to sleep now! She's in her Hugabub now.

Off to Tesco shortly with my mum... Have a good day all!

Stefka · 05/12/2007 11:51

Yeah it is definitely worse because of the feeding issue. I need to know that my boobs are getting a bit of a break to heal. It's also such a faff because I have to get up and wash my nipples first and then afterwards I need to dress them and it all takes time. So I end up being up for ages if he gets up in the night and then I just can't get back to sleep. I think he sleeps like that because he is up all evening. Last night he was awake from 6-12! He needs constant attention during that time so it is pretty tiring but if it means he sleeps in a block I don't care too much.

I am dreading the jabs so much - the whole idea of them makes me very uneasy and I wish he didn't have to have them at all.

Ejt that sounds like an awful day. Sorry the head teacher was such an ass. Hope today is better.

I have been waiting for a delivery this morning. They were meant to be here some time between 7 and 12. They have ten more minutes if they are going to be on time!

missbumpy · 05/12/2007 12:11

hi everyone

how are you all getting your LOs to sleep so much?! my DD still wakes up for 3 hourly feeds even if I top up her late night feed with formula. She's almost 8 weeks now and about 10lb...will she ever sleep through the night or at least go for a bit longer between feeds?!

Anyway, a baby with a cold is officially horrendous! Poor little bubs is really distressed by it all and there's nothing I can do. I've even resortedto trying to suck the snot out with my mouth ! Thanks for the advice the other day (sorry, baby brain, can't remember who...floria or alicet). I tried the calpol last night but she chucked it all back up straight away. I'm persevering with the saline drops though.

So why are the jabs so bad? Sorry if silly question but DD hasn't had them yet. Is it the needle that's the problem or does the vaccine make LO feel ill? I've got all this to look forward to!

MrsFish · 05/12/2007 12:49

Good afternoon everyone.

I'm knackered could do with a sleep, went to bed at midnight and was up at 5.15 to give Ben a feed, but couldn't get back to sleep because we have a bloody great rat in the loft
This is the third night I have been woken up by it now, it hasn't responded to any of the traps or poison, we now have a sonic sound job up there, but I think its probably got stuck and can't find its way out. Went to Ikea last night to get a bookcase for Sam's room, thought it would be quieter on a week night.... but no, we were waiting for nearly an hour for them to bring it down to us, as unfortunately it wasn't in the self serve section. We did go for a nice meal afterwards though at a tapas bar which was fab and made a nice change, they even had really nice alcohol free beer (yes I was driving) but we didn't get home till 11.30. The plan tonight is to go to bed when I put Ben down after his last feed at 8ish, if last night is anything to go by he will sleep till 5ish again

I've had friends round this morning with their kids and now feel shattered but no chance of a nap as Sam doesn't sleep in the day anymore

missbumpy - every child is different after the jabs. Ben had his yesterday but has been fine since
