My darling boy's birthday today

We gave him a Fisher Price Little People garage as his main present, which he loves, as well as loads of Bob the Builder trucks and Thomas the tank engine bits.

He's currently having a nap, then we're having a little birthday tea later.

A good day SM x

I still feel really sorry for Johnny in these situations, but I have drummed it into him about cakes and stuff. A couple of months ago, he would have made a grab for cake or sandwiches etc if they were, say, sitting on a coffee table, but now, they don't seem to bother him at all. I just have to say "no, this has egg/milk in it" and he says "egg, sick" or "milk sore tummy" and that's the end of it. Like you, I think it bothers me more than it bothers him.

ELF1981 · 30/11/2007 19:49

Evelyn is not having much trouble re naps or sleep (touch wood) but I could have done without her throwing up all over my bed, the hall, the bathroom floor, the loo and herself this morning DH looked after her today as he was already on holiday - but he said she spent the whole day "zoned out" on the sofa

On another note, I got a Waterstones news letter saying "Get Maw Broons Scottish Cookbook..." did I miss something MB

mawbroon · 01/12/2007 13:55

What a shame about Evelyn being so sick. I hope she's feeling better soon Elf.

Yes Maw Broon's cookbook has been published and I haven't seen it, but I read that it's been slammed by nutritionists because it's full of unhealthy dishes by todays standards. I can only imagine that it's full of things like roly poly pudding and bridies. Yum

Allergy appointment was fine this morning. Felt that the consultant listened to what we had to say rather than just bulldoze over it, the way that some of these bloody medics do. Johnny will be called in for skin tests in the new year for both egg and dairy. I also asked about penicillin (who else on here was allergic, was it YF?) and he said they can do a blood test to see what's what. So the wee mite will have two skin tests and a blood sample all at the same time. Not looking forward to that at all...

Elf Hope Evie is feeling better now. Do you know what caused it hun?

dlamis I hope the nap is just a phase too as Thomas was going for 2hrs and that has suddenly dropped to less then an hour. He is still waking as normal in a morning (around 8-8.30) but this morning it was 8.55am!!!! I couldn't believe it!

MB Yes it is me with the allergy but Thomas didnt' have a problem with it. Glad all went well yesterday at the hospital, makes a big difference when you feel that they are taking your concerns seriously.

We have had a lovely weekend, got our xmas trees up today and THomas loved the lights etc. Last year he was so poorly that he didn't pay them any attention from what I remember.

Dontlookatmeimshy · 03/12/2007 08:28

Elf - hope Evie is feeling better.

MB - Glad to appointment went well.

YF - 8.55!!!!!! (dlamis jabs YF with a sharp stick

We put the Christmas tree up at the weekend too. Ds loves it especially the twinkly lights We thought we might have to fence it off behind the play pen but so far he has been really good, he does touch it but only gently and when he's pointing at something and saying "Ooooo"

ELF1981 · 03/12/2007 08:48

Not sure what caused Evelyn to be sick, but she is better now. She was sick Fri morning, Fri night, Sat morning and she only really perked up Sun evening.

I have had a migraine since last Sunday, so a week and a day now, so I am feeling pretty miserable for myself!

mawbroon · 03/12/2007 14:10

Migraines are the worst Elf. You have my sympathy. I used to suffer them very regularly and then they stopped all of a sudden. Are you stressed just now? I always could link mine to stress. Coincindentally, they stopped as soon as I dumped my ex boyfriend 10 years ago. Hope you feel better soon.

We are not making a big deal of christmas at all this year. I will put up any cards we get and perhaps a string of lights, but that's about it. We won't be doing Santa either, but I think this is probably the last year we will be able to get away with it. I have bought Johnny a couple of books for Christmas and shock, horror, this is the first christmas or birthday that we have actually bought him a present.

My babywearing Kindercoat arrived today. Hooray. It is easy enough to get on, but a bit more tricky to get off and I have no idea how I am supposed to put up the wee hood for Johnny when he's on my back, but I will practice later. It is really versatile and will be able to use if from bump time if I get pregnant again.

I have just finished my first full cycle since cutting down on breastfeeding and although it has shortened from 26 to 24 days, the luteal phase was 12 days which is long enough for implantation, so here's hoping that over the next couple of months that we have some luck. Maybe I'll end up with another October babe

mawbroon · 04/12/2007 14:11

We were invited to a coffee morning today run by the Breast Buddies scheme as I have volnteered to get trained up for this. Poor Johnny really doesn't like it when it's busy and noisy and then to top it all off, he was petrified of Santa. All the other kids were trotting up to Santa to collect their presents and he was clinging on to me for dear life trembling and crying. He seemed to like the book that he got from Santa though, so perhaps that will win him round. All those newborns were making me broody though.

stinkymalinki · 04/12/2007 22:05

Joey's another one petrified of Santa. God knows how he'll cope next week when we're at Disneyland Paris! - we're going for our 1st wedding anniversary. I'm so excited!!

Good grief Stinky! That's never a year already is it.

I suppose it is now i think about it....

mawbroonGotRunOverByAReindeer · 07/12/2007 13:19

Hooray we have progress on the sleep front. I noticed that on the days when Johnny had only catnapped or had a very short nap, he was sleeping all night. I have decided not to let him sleep for longer than 1 - 1.5hrs and bingo, he is sleeping all night. You have no idea how happy we are about it.

This week's obsession is with tunnels, with a secondary obsession with take off and landing of an aeroplane. I make him various tunnels from small tables with cloths over them which keeps him amused for hours on end, or my legs make a good temporary tunnel if I'm busy. If there are no props available then he will make little tunnels and trains with his fingers. It is very cute indeed. He also likes a cored apple or pear cut in half as a tunnel, and each bite changes the dimension of the tunnel and the little finger train can have a different tunnel experience each time. And the other day, he was singing a lullaby to his apple tunnel. Should I be worried?

Yokefleet · 07/12/2007 20:58

MB he just sounds like a normal little lad!! lol ah bless does he still love his salad spinner too!!

DontlookatmynoseImRudolph · 07/12/2007 21:19

lol at singing to his apple tunnel MB.

I think your and my ds must be in cahoots with each other. Every time you post something about him Johnny, ds seems to have done virtually the same thing at the same time. I've noticed this week the days he's had little or no nap he's settled earlier and woken up later without waking in between too. This morning he even slept till 7.00am (thats a major lie in for me)and I reckon he would've gone longer except dh disturbed him.

He has refused his midday nap 3 days in a row now but he is a nightmare by 4.00-4.30 and will try to have a nap then. Today he fell asleep on my knee around 5.00 watching cbeebies. He hasn't fallen asleep on anyone like that for months, he just wouldn't!. So he obviously still some daytime sleep. Arrgh

I could've reaaly done with a nap myself today too. I'm knackered from cm'ing and feeling like a huge heifer atm. I'm definately bigger than I was with ds at this stage.

DontlookatmynoseImRudolph · 08/12/2007 18:40

Aaaarrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

mawbroonGotRunOverByAReindeer · 08/12/2007 21:24

Oh dearie me. Which particular branch of terrorism has he been practicing today?

Yokefleet · 09/12/2007 12:52

(whispers) can you keep a secret?

mawbroonGotRunOverByAReindeer · 09/12/2007 13:00

SECRET YOKEFLEET, YOU HAVE A SECRET, WHAT WOULD YOUR SECRET BE THEN??????

LOL, is it what I think it might be?

Yokefleet · 09/12/2007 15:13

got bfp this morning!!!

DontlookatmynoseImRudolph · 09/12/2007 17:43

Woohoo Congrats YF! So when are you due?

MB - Nothing specific, just the usual general 2 year oldness. He's been better today, seems to be dh's turn to make me go arrghhh today though.

ELF1981 · 09/12/2007 18:31

Woohoo congrats Yokefleet!!

Sorry haven't checked in as I have been pooly (mum had to come rescue me the other day with Evelyn as I was too poorly to look after her)

mawbroonGotRunOverByAReindeer · 09/12/2007 18:32

Congratulations YF Presume you aren't that far along seeing you've been trying and it was unlikely to be a surprise.
DLAMIS - glad to hear that he's a bit better today. Are you still bf btw or did he self wean? Sometimes I look at the size of Johnny and can't quite believe that I'm still feeding him! But when we are cosied in and feeding, it's as lovely as ever. Except for when he tries to have a conversation with me my nipple still in his mouth. Ouch....

mawbroonGotRunOverByAReindeer · 09/12/2007 18:33

x posts Elf. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Yokefleet · 09/12/2007 19:23

Thanks guys!!!! We tested on the 17th Nov and got a neg result then I tested again about a week later (i think!) and was still neg, but still no AF. When I got up this morning I was telling Paul about me waking at 4am feeling really sick and he said to do a test and that was it!! I am really really suprised though! AF's are really irregular previous one was 5.5weeks after the one before but that one had been 10 weeks so I really can't say when our due date will be. Maybe end of July/beg of Aug

Elf, hope you are feeling better soon xxx

DontlookatmynoseImRudolph · 09/12/2007 21:42

mb - I stopped completely a few weeks ago. Started cutting down a while ago because it was just getting to painful , to do 3 times a day. Part of me didn't want to but at the same time it was becoming quite an unpleasant experience. So I introduced a cup of mild for his midday pre-nap drink and fortunately he took to it straight away no problem. Couple of weeks later I introduced it in the evening too. He was still having the morning breastfeed in bed, but then over a couple of weeks he gradually cut down on the length, some days refused full stop until eventually he stopped completely. So I suppose I helped him on his way a bit but in the end he stopped completely on his own which I'm glad about because I never wanted to force him to stop. I think my supply had plummeted anyway as once I stopped I didn't get full or engorged or anything. I had mixed feeling about it but tbh i think it was the right time for us both. He has pulled at my top a couple of times but was fine when I said 'mummy's milk all gone now'

mawbroonGotRunOverByAReindeer · 10/12/2007 13:03

That's nice that it came to a natural end DLAMIS. Excellent too that you didn't have any engorgement or anything. I often wonder how Johnny will cope if I am still feeding and pregnant. My guess is that he is so boob mad that he would keep feeding even though there was no milk! But we will cross that bridge if and when we get to it. We are down to four or five feeds a day now, which sounds a lot, but compared to having fed on demand up until a month or so ago, 4 or 5 a day is nothing!!

The sleeping thing is working. 1.5hrs of nap still seems to give us a full night until around 6 ish, so I can cope with that. He's not ready (and neither am I) for dropping naps yet, so this is a good solution. I do feel very mean wakening him after his nap though.

So, YF, a summer baby. That's lovely. I guess the scan will give you a better idea of your due date. My cycle is pretty regular, so there will be no surprises for me I don't think, but I can totally see how it can happen when it's so irregular. What a lovely surprise, not only pregnant, but further through the yukky first trimester than if you had found out straight away.

How are you feeling now Elf?
