My darling boy's birthday today

We gave him a Fisher Price Little People garage as his main present, which he loves, as well as loads of Bob the Builder trucks and Thomas the tank engine bits.

He's currently having a nap, then we're having a little birthday tea later.

A good day SM x

Elf - hope Evelyn is ok. Poor wee soul

YF - how did it go at your ILs? You could always ignore completely (ie go out!!) and leave your MIL to it

Stinky - I was under the impression that the last teeth came in from around age 2. Johnny has got 18 teeth now and we are only waiting on the top two molars at the back then he's got them all.

DLAMIS - that does sound like it would be very wearing. I'm sure Johnny is going to hit that phase soon.

I bought some big boy pants and vests for Johnny today. He is obsessed with pees and poos. He wants to see what's in his nappy when i change it, and he often says potty, so we are going to give it a bash soon. If he doesn't take to it in a few days then we will go back to nappies. I am going to have to read up on the potty training threads because I don't have a clue what I'm supposed to be doing!

How did it go with the clocks changing? I was buggered if I was going to get up at 5am for a week while Johnny adjusted, so last week, I gradually made bedtime later and later. Last night he slept through from 8pm BST until 6.20am GMT so it is looking like I managed to fool his body clock.

ELF1981 · 28/10/2007 15:21

Evelyn was awake at seven this morning (would have been eight if clocks hadn't changed). She's now napping.
Her lip doesn't seem to be bothering her thankfully!
We are going to be back to the potty training lark next week I think, so will be joining you on those potty training threads!!

slalomsuki · 28/10/2007 15:29

How many of you have gone back to work on here?

For me my dd is my third so at 2 she has had me back for over a year now and seems to understand but I do feel sad since she is my last that I am missing out on a lot with her.

ELF1981 · 28/10/2007 15:34

I went back to work when DD was six months.
She goes to a childminder who adores her, she loves being with the other children as we do not see other kids on a regular basis.
It is hard though, especially when people think it is okay to constantly remind me that "i wont get this time back" like I am a complete idiot!

mawbroooooooooon · 28/10/2007 15:40

salomsuki - I didn't go back to work, but have registered as a childminder. I worked from last sept until may, then we moved house. I am waiting on the paperwork from the fire brigade before I can get going again here.

Dontlookatmeimshy · 28/10/2007 21:08

Good luck with the potty training. I keep thinking about it but that's as far as it gets at the moment

Hope Evelyn's lip is ok.

Slalomsuki, I haven't gone back to work either. Never really wanted to anyway and work kindly made the choice easier by making me redundant while pregnant. Much easier to not go back to work if you haven't got one to go back too. A few months ago I registered as a childminder so I wouldn't have to go back out to work but at 20 wks pg there's not much danger of that for a while anyway.

Got my scan on Wednesday. Still can't decide whether to find out whether it's a boy of girl

Yokefleet · 28/10/2007 21:39

Thanks MB, we got back around 4.30pm but had been up with Thomas since the early hours. He is too big for his travel cot and wouldn't settle so we ended up with him in with us (never done that before) so I didn't get much sleep. This little lad has been in the car for 4.5hrs yesterday and again this afternoon and he has only slept for 10mins as we arrived back in Swansea this afternoon. I thought all kids slept in the car! ah well not my lad.
Thomas didn't eat any tea last night either and we had to keep telling mil to leave him too it etc which drove me to distraction!

DLAMIS - Hope all goes well with the scan.
Elf - how is Evies lip now?

I haven't gone back to work but that is what we planned anyway as we moved 250miles away when I went on maternity leave so it would have been a bit of a trek to work!! lol

stinkymalinki · 30/10/2007 13:59

Having a bad day

Went to a meeting with my boss to discuss about my return to work, and she threw me a curve ball by demanding me to return in 3 weeks time when my current sick note runs out, despite the fact that both my GP and physio say that i'm not well enough to go back yet. She naturally took me by surprise, so i said i couldn't sort childcare in that time (as my DH already has his Nov off duty, and like normal human beings, we'd made plans for his days off, knowing that i would still be off!), then she kicked off about childcare not being her problem (i know that!!!), and made the rest of the meeting all about that rather than the very valid point that i'm not physically fit to return, so now i'm stuck between a rock and a hard place, and i'm seriously considering quitting. I'm a senior member of staff, a good member of staff, and i did not deserve to be spoken to the way i was. I'd rather hand my notice in and find a much better job, where i'm not treated like shit!

Phew! Sorry for the rant. It was all i could do to be contained enough post meeting to avoid telling her where she could poke her job!

mawbroooooooooon · 30/10/2007 14:47

That's rotten stinky. Will your doctor give you another sick note? She can't demand you come back if you're still signed off IYSWIM.

Johnny seems to be under the weather AGAIN. He has a slightly runny/snuffly nose which isn't too bad, but his farts are STINKING which makes me think there is some low level tummy bug going on. Lets hope it stays low level and he doesn't get diarrhoea again. He hasn't eaten much (by his standards) over the last couple of days, and yesterday, he tipped his dinner on the table rather than eating it. This is unheard of, so he must have been feeling rotten.

I have cleared a few days in my diary next week for potty training. Johnny has a teddy that does the same things as he does (naps, breastfeeds , wears a nappy etc) and the other day, johnny took off teddy's nappy and held him over the toilet and said "pee" so I think he is ready to try.

this might double post as i have had to refresh page and resubmit. apologies if it does

mawbroooooooooon · 30/10/2007 15:07

Spoke too soon about the tummy bug being low level. Cue one exploding diarrhoea nappy

ELF1981 · 30/10/2007 21:28

Aw Stinky, that sucks. Is there anybody more senior you could talk to?

MB - hope Johnny is better.

Evelyn is currently being potty trained, last night one pee on the floor, today on the sofa (luckily I'd planned to wash the covers this week!), but then she did a poo in her nappy! I was so proud, we were clapping and whooping, and then she started dancing

stinkymalinki · 31/10/2007 14:17

Thanks for the support I actually went to see my GP yesterday afternoon, and he was disgusted by my manager's conduct. Yes, he will give me another sick note, no problems with that. It's just that he will only issue them for a month at a time (to cover himself legally too, so i'm not potentially 'milking it' iyswim), so i think thats why my manager's got all gung-ho about a return to work date (sceptical me thinks the only reason she's doing this now rather than before given that i've been off several months with no contact whatsoever from her, is because christmas is looming, and at the rate her staff keep leaving, she'll have nobody to run the ward!) Doesn't matter anyway, as DH and i were discussing the situation last night, and we're sorting it so i can leave my current job and just do agency nursing - better pay, much less hassle

Joey's woken up with conjunctivitis this morning. As he was fine yesterday, i can only presume he picked it up from Nursery (i was warned once he started, that all the 'standard' bugs would do the rounds!) He's not too bothered by it, just fed up of me keep wiping the green gunk away. Not had any experience of it before, so don't know whether he needs to be seen by my GP for eye drops or anything?

Hope all our poorly LO's feel better soon, and good luck to everyone trying the potty training. Given all the other stress i've got going on at the mo, we're delaying ours for a bit!! TBH, Joey's still not showing any more signs of being ready yet anyway.

OP posts:
ELF1981 · 31/10/2007 20:02

stinky - yes drops for the eyes I think. I always get this, and always end up with drops and creams (eeeew) for my eye.

re potty training - last night was not too great except for the poo, but tonight she did two wees in the potty all by herself.

stinkymalinki · 31/10/2007 20:09

I got some eye drops earlier - i asked the pharmacist at Tesco, and he sold me some over the counter. Saves yet another trip to the GP!

OP posts:
ELF1981 · 31/10/2007 20:11

I started getting over the counter ones, but our chemist is funny re giving children stuff without the doc seeing them, which is a pain in the ass!!

morningpaper · 31/10/2007 20:23

I've not been in here for oooh about two years. But just saw it on active convos and have had a quick look through.

SO glad to see that some of you a still bfing!

I weaned DD when she was about 18 months - I've always found it painful and that was just enough for me. She wasn't really that bothered so it was quite easy.

So here's my summary of where we are:

GOOD:

  • she's been in pants for a couple of months - hurrah!
  • she is only waking once or twice a night most nights now
  • she is very chatty and talks all day
  • she loves her sister (who is 5) and they play together all the time
  • she is quite good at climbing and does the stairs by herself independently, which DD1 never did at this age
  • she still naps for 1 hour in the day

ANNOYING:

  • she is DUMMY OBSESSED. Only allowed it at night but I think she is developing a bit of a horsey look so I might need to take action at some point
  • she's QUITE HEAVY, don't know what she weighs but she is HARD to pick up and carry, which is a pain as I have a slipped disc
  • she's a bit of a madam, can be quite crabby and rude. But generally SO MUCH LOVELIER than she was six months or so ago.

I really love this age, they are so yummy. When she laughs it's like little lights popping in my head. She's adorable.

ELF1981 · 31/10/2007 20:30

MP - nice to see you again

Congrats on your wedding btw!

Evelyn is heavy too when I pick her up, but she is only 24lbs so not too heavy, I must just be a weakling!

mawbroooooooooon · 01/11/2007 12:04

Johnny's not really had any bother with his eyes yet, although he did have one gunky episode a couple of months back which cleared when I put breastmilk in it. I probably posted about it at the time, but I thought it was only fair that I should put some milk in my eye too to see if it stung or anything. Except I forgot that I was wearing contact lenses. Doh

Nice to see you back on the thread MP. Well done on bf so long, especially if it wasn't something you particularly enjoyed. I know for sure that ds would go crazy if I tried to wean him, so self weaning is in fact the lazy option for me.

Johnny only had the two squirty nappies the other day, however I spent the day in bed yesterday after a nasty bout of d&v. I got off lightly compared to dh though, he was up every half hour last night and is feeling like death warmed up. Poor soul. MIL looked after Johnny for me all day yesterday which is the longest we have ever been apart. He didn't seem to have missed me one little bit which is good, I suppose!

stinkymalinki · 01/11/2007 21:27

Urgh - trying to put eye drops into a wriggly, screaming child every 2 hours is not my idea of fun. Still, Joey's eyes are looking much better this evening, so hopefully he's over the worst of things.

OP posts:
mawBOOM · 01/11/2007 21:48

I hope he is stinky.

Here's my bonfire night name btw. This is my 3rd bonfire night on MN and it's taken me this long to think it up.

stinkymalinki · 01/11/2007 21:50

any advice Ladies?

OP posts:
ELF1981 · 02/11/2007 12:40

Stinky, have posted on your thread.

ooooh, potty training seems to be going well, yesterday three wees in teh potty at the CM's, one at home and a poo as well!!!

No doubt she has peed all over herself today to stop me boasting

stinkymalinki · 02/11/2007 13:31

Thanks for the input re my work woes Mawbroon and Elf

Well done Evie on the potty-usage!

Joey's eyes are so much better today. His eyes weren't glued together this morning when i went in to him, so he's definitely on the mend. Still having to give him eye drops, though thankfully not as often, and he doesn't do the full hysterics so long as he can give his toy cat eye drops (with the lid back on, naturally!) afterwards.

OP posts:
mawBOOM · 02/11/2007 20:38

Well done on the potty achievements Evelyn.

I thought I was over the yukky tummy bug that Johnny shared with us all, but came down with diarrhoea again through the night and felt rough as anything today. Luckily PILs looked after Johnny for us again today, but by lunchtime, I felt that it was really weird that he wasn't here, so went over to their house to see him. I don't know when I am going to get over missing him so badly when he's not around. I'll have to sort myself out before he goes to school!

The fire brigade came out again to look at my house for childminding. The original plan had been to put door closers on the downstairs doors, but the more I thought about it, the more I thought that was a bad idea. The alternative is a smoke alarm in every bloody room, as well as the hallways. I know they take things seriously, but good heavens, this is complete overkill. Especially knowing that people who have been registered for years probably have very little by way of smoke detectors etc.

ELF1981 · 02/11/2007 20:50

I'm always fascinated to see the fire blanket at my CM's house - at the door should such a terrible emergency arrive - they're very thorough in their inspections, aren't they?!

Evelyn doing well again re potty the only issue being that she does not want to wear her pants and just runs around with her clothes on but nothing on her bum!
