My darling boy's birthday today

We gave him a Fisher Price Little People garage as his main present, which he loves, as well as loads of Bob the Builder trucks and Thomas the tank engine bits.

He's currently having a nap, then we're having a little birthday tea later.

A good day SM x

I cant believe the clocks are changing soon!! I can never remember if I lose or gain an hour.

As for last night, she did sleep in our room again, but it must have been about three ish, and she went to sleep.

Will have to see how we go tonight, but she is getting a terrible cold, and she has been really weepy today (crying everytime somebody so much as looks at her funny!) so I'm not holding out much hope

Jane4 · 20/10/2007 19:08

We gain an hour, a nice lie in on a Autumn morning, lovely, if you haven't got children lol as they wake up at the same time Grrrr!

Mawbroon - my book arrived this morning. I shall endeavour to read it asap (its longer than i was expecting!), then fingers crossed....

Hope everyone had a good weekend? I took my Mum christmas shopping, and Joey spent the whole time loading my shopping basket with stuff we didn't need! What are you all getting your LO's for Christmas? So far, we've got a wooden fire station set from GLTC and a set of Thomas books for Joey, and some stocking fillers (although he's being a pain and keeps finding them - christmas is going to cost me a fortune at this rate). I'm also thinking of being brave this year and putting a proper tree up with decorations - last year i chickened out and just got a little fibre-optic tree, but i'm hoping Joey will be ok with a proper one this year

Aaaargh, the dreaded C word stinky!

Glad your book arrived quickly. I too thought "oh no, it's massive" when mine arrived, but there are big sections of it that you don't need to read eg the chapter on menopause. It is easy to read and it is well laid out for using as a reference book too.

We had a busy weekend. I was playing fiddle at a concert away up in the north east, so we stayed with my parents on Friday and Saturday night to break the journey as they stay around half way up. Johnny had his first ever late night on Saturday. He was up until after 10pm He was really tired though, but he wasn't for giving in!! During one quiet bit of the concert, I could hear him shouting "mummy, mummy" from the other room. I just wanted to run off the stage to go to him, but of course I didn't.

It was his birthday yesterday, so he opened some presents at my parents' house and then we drove home. We had a few people round, but it wasn't really a party as such. He thoroughly enjoyed the egg/dairy free cake and couldn't shovel it in fast enough! He then went around saying "cake cake" for ages after. He slept through last night for the first time in ages, so I guess all the excitement was just too much for him!

Thanks ladies. It was also RTL's dd's birthday the same day, so belated birthday wishes to her if you're reading RTL.

Belated Happy Birthday to your DD RTL xx

Yokefleet · 23/10/2007 19:59

Happy birthday to all the little ones I have missed. Hope you are all well.

Thomas is definately in the terrible twos group now meal times are a battle field, he constantly wants the tv on, which I limit but he keeps dragging me to the machine anyway and he is just stroppy! ah well its just a phase! I have finally started him in a playgroup which he is seeming to enjoy and I have started with a Rosemary Conely slimming club in the hope of losing some of the weight I have piled on since having Thomas. We are still ttc this is the 2nd month but fingers crossed.

stinkymalinki · 24/10/2007 14:07

Anyone want to swap children?

Joey has been an absolute nightmare for the last few days - constantly whining for me, even when i'm in the same room; he keeps wanting to go outside, yet when i tell him its cold and that he needs to get properly dressed he doesn't want to do that; being very picky at mealtimes; keeps asking for 'Bob' (the builder) on TV then saying 'off' 5 seconds later....it's a form of torture, only i have to grin and bear it as he's my DS!

So, one careful(ish) owner, full service history, would like to swap for a nice, well-behaved child

Hi YF. Sorry to hear that Thomas has hit the terrible twos big styleee. Just remember that it's completely normal!! Good luck with the slimming club. Is it actually a club where you go along or are you doing it online? Fingers crossed for ttc

Johnny is currently having a phase where he wants to see and help with everything that's going on. I was making pizza dough in the bread machine this morning and he could barely hold the measuring spoon because he was stamping his feet with excitement. Then, when I started the machine, I thought he was going to explode with glee. He was saying "dough dough" all morning and twirling round like the dough in the machine. He's a bit of a nutter sometimes.

The toddler group are having a hallowe'en party next week, fancy dress too. Any ideas for a cheap and cheerful costume?

mawbroooooooooon · 24/10/2007 14:16

x posts stinky. I'm not having any bother with Johnny yet, but given that he was late walking and still isn't talking much yet, I'm guessing that the terrible twos might be late as well.

I really recommend a book called Making the Terrible Twos Terrific by John Rosemond. It's american, but think it's on Amazon. Once you get past the american-nes of it, it really makes an awful lot of sense. I used a lot of the techniques on one of my mindees last year with great success. My mindee was four, but I can see that it would work the same way with a toddler.

ELF1981 · 24/10/2007 17:22

Oh we have the terrible twos all right!! She is going through a phase of being really clingy, and gets rather upset, crying over the smallest thing - she cried today for ages at the CM because she wasn't allowed to close the door

She isnt too bad, but I have seen a change in her. Her biggest problem at the moment is declaring that she "dont like" something when I know she does!! ie if she has a biscuit, she'll eat a bit, then when she sees everybody else has finished or playing, she suddenly "dont like" whatever it is that she had! Odd child, even chocolate she doesn't like at the moment if something catches her eye!

Yokefleet · 24/10/2007 19:25

MB - I am going to the classes as I have done online diets before with very limited sucess, thought actually having to go and be weighed by someone else would help iyswim! and I love the exercise part of the class too even my mum is enjoying it

looks like we all want to swap with MB for a good happy child! Thomas is frowning all day long and hardly eating but still drinking plenty so I am just keeping calm at mealtimes still making him sit at the table and he will either eat or not! Only been doing the keeping calm bit for 2 days so will see how it goes!

stinkymalinki · 25/10/2007 14:11

We've had a better day today - i took Joey to a soft play centre, something we've only done twice ever, and he was actually happy to let go of my hand and go and play on his own, although i had to be very near him, and he got very jealous when i was giving my friends' baby a cuddle. He's currently crashed out - i've finally tired him out!!

OP posts:
mawbroooooooooon · 25/10/2007 18:27

That's exactly how I felt stinky, I read it in around 2 days and got charting straight away. Like you, it made me hopeful that my cycles were normal despite still breastfeeding and lo and behold they are , these Hallowe'en emoticons are mad. Glad you had a better day today.

YF- how's the keeping calm going? I reckon I must be very calm. I managed a demanding 4yo mindee and din't frown or raise my voice once the whole time I had him. Often I was fizzing inside, but I was very restrained, but my goodness it's hard.

We have had a fun day today. We have a friend over from Nashville and Johnny's routine went out the window today as we drove around all over the place looking and castles and other such tourist attractions. We were out from 8am until 6pm and Johnny was fantastic, he had a couple of cat naps in the car and he walked some and went in the back carrier some. Luckily bedtime is getting later and later this week so that he is adjusted by the weekend for the clocks changing, so it doesn't matter that we were a bit late home.

stinkymalinki · 26/10/2007 13:40

We took Joey for his first-ever trip to the dentist this morning. She was very happy with his teeth, and said not to worry too much that Joey prefers to chew the toothbrush rather than use it properly(). Apparantly he's only got another 4 teeth to come through, and that usually happens at around the age of 4, so she doesn't need to see him again till then.

My work friend's daughter has just had twins! They weren't due till the beginning of December, but her waters broke last night and she had a c section today. Mum and babies all doing fine. Everyone's having babies at the moment!! (i'm only )

Mia is not too bad, but I have seen a change in her, she has occasional temper tantrums which I just ignore, she soon stops as she doesn't like to be ignored, all vegetables are yuk, so is Chinese food and potatoes with the exception of chips, she loves those, but only gets them about once a week. For lunch she will only eat St Agur cheese or marmite sandwiches. I would say her favourite foods are cheese & fruit, closely followed by sausages & chips, she also likes pasta & rice lol
Her favourite words are yuk, it's mine, (to her brother and not other children) hiya (to everyone she sees) & no lol

Yokefleet · 26/10/2007 16:18

MB - the keeping calm has worked again but and its a big but we are going to Yorkshire for a visit tomorrow which i am dreading with him as its a 4hr drive that ends just around nap time and I know that he is gonna be a nightmare ah well the joys of parenting! the thing with the food and ignoring him/keeping calm etc isn't going to work with mil butting in all the time. Paul has already mentioned it to her but as she always rings at Toms bedtime no matter how many times we have told her not to I don't think she will do the ignoring bit iyswim! sorry to waffle on!

Dontlookatmeimshy · 26/10/2007 23:05

Oh thank goodness I am not the only one going through this with their dc.

Ds is the same, clingy one second, pushes me away the next, wants picking up/doesn't want picking up, wants a yoghurt/doesn't want a yoghurt, etc, etc. It's driving me insane. When he wakes up from his day time nap we can have up to an hour of this behaviour accompanied by much crying/whining. I just keeps saying to myself, it's normal, he's 2, it's normal, he's 2 over and over.

Dh doesn't help by fussing over him saying "awww, don't be sad"
"NO, HE'S NOT SAD, HE'S FRUSTRATED/CROSS BECAUSE I WON'T LET HIM THROW THE TOILET ROLL DOWN THE LOO" etc etc

ARRRGGGGGHHHHHH

Dontlookatmeimshy · 26/10/2007 23:06

Ooops that was a bit of a rant (feeling a bit hormonal atm)

Jane4 · 27/10/2007 00:12

Dh/Dp's certainly don't help matters do they, I have the same problem

ELF1981 · 27/10/2007 17:33

Evelyn fell out of the bed last night and has split her lip

Jane4 · 28/10/2007 00:21

aww bless, hope she is ok xx
