My darling boy's birthday today

We gave him a Fisher Price Little People garage as his main present, which he loves, as well as loads of Bob the Builder trucks and Thomas the tank engine bits.

He's currently having a nap, then we're having a little birthday tea later.

A good day SM x

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 26/06/2008 12:40

aw MB, hope Johnny is feeling better x

Yokefleet · 26/06/2008 20:18

sorry I have been missing!!
All ok here, it is my birthday tomorrow so Paul and I have just had a pizza delivered to celebrate!! lol
MB, hope that things pick up with Johnny soon, Thomas has had a runny nose now for as long as I can remember.

Elf - how are things with you and evelyn?

We have been invited to the current nursery school classes teddy bears picnic tomorrow afternoon its were Thomas will be going from January although I think they said that he will go 1 afternoon a week from September too. I can't believe our little ones are soon going to be 3 and going to nursery!! OMG were has that time gone???
How are you all doing with the potty training? we are still way off with Tom really, we put him on the loo but he rarely does anything but I am thinking that once baby has arrived we will be more at home and so we will have him in pants during the day to see how that goes. I can't be running to the loo with him at the moment as there isn't room for me and bump and Thomas is our loo!!
well I have waffled on enough for now.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 26/06/2008 20:55

I'm fine. I ended up not having my appendix out after my stay in hospital at the end of May.
Ashley is working away at the minute, only home for the weekends which is a big sucky, but not much can be done.
Evelyn is doing really well - she is potty trained with exception of bedtimes, though I think she may be coming down with chicken pox! Well, I guess she had to get it at some point!!

Happy b/d YF for tomorrow

mawbroon · 26/06/2008 21:13

Happy birthday for tomorrow YF! Remind me when you are due again?

I hope you have made a good recovery since your appendix op Elf and I hope you get a good long run of good health after everything you have been through.

Re potty training, Johnny is dry both day and night now. It all happened in a very short period of time, so YF, don't be surpised if Tom just does it one day and doesn't look back! I was very pleased that even with diarrhoea, Johnny didn't have any accidents at all, the wee star. Diarrhoea in his pants would just be horrible for him (and me!! LOL)

I was MSNing with RedTartanLass the other day and she sent me some pics of her dd. She is lovely and all very grown up by the sounds of things!

I can't believe that they are going to be 3 either! How did that happen?

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 26/06/2008 21:20

ooh, no, I kept the appendix! I was just held hostage at the hospital.

I put some new pics of Evelyn on my profile, the one in the swing is from about two months ago, cannot believe she is nearly 3!

mawbroon · 26/06/2008 21:30

Doh, have just read your post. Yes, it says that you ended up NOT having your appendix out. It's been a long day!

Yokefleet · 27/06/2008 09:37

thanks guys, I think it is RTls birthday today too if I remember rightly!

Baby is due 5 weeks on Sunday (3rd Aug) not long now!!
Gotta go for now as Paul is doing me some brekkie!

DontlookatmeImshy · 27/06/2008 23:12

Happy Birthday YF.

Hope everyone is well. The ds's are keeping me busy at the moment. Ds2 rolled over yesterday, I was well impressed. Ds1's speech is getting better although it's abit slow. He had a trial session at pre-school last week. He was fine, but i blubbed like a big baby. It's the first time I've left him with 'strangers'. Wasn't very impressed that he came out with a pooey nappy that have obviously been there for a while!. Hopefully it was just a one off. He has another trial session in a couple of weeks so we'll see what happens next time.

I'm starting childminding again in a couple of weeks. Just a few hours, 2 days a week so it should break me in again gently. Eeek

Yokefleet · 03/07/2008 17:48

hello everyone, hope all is well.

ponto · 04/07/2008 22:13

Hello all, haven't checked this thread for a while, glad you're all well. It's my due date tomorrow but no sign of anything happening as yet, and as both Alice and dd1 were induced at 42 weeks, I'm not getting too excited. Also, the nursery's still being decorated, so all the baby things are in my bedroom, I don't want the baby to come until the house is ready. Can't believe how late I've left everything with this pregnancy!

Alice is coming down with a cold or something tonight - she wouldn't eat her tea then had a high temperature and has woken once this evening which is unusual for her. I could do without a sick toddler at the moment!

I have suggested to Alice that she might like to go to playschool to give me a couple of mornings a week with just the new baby, but she's having none of it! I'll have to wait until January when she can start nursery I think - one of her little friends already goes so she's quite keen.

How's the breastfeeding going these days mawbroon?

Yokefleet · 11/07/2008 15:11

Any sign of your new arrival Ponto? Hoping all is well with everyone else too xxx

mawbroon · 15/07/2008 21:28

Hope you are all well. Any news yet ponto?

Not a lot doing here. JOhnny is growing up fast. His speech has come on in leaps and bounds and it is noticable because he is starting to use I, you and we correctly. He can sometimes string a long sentence together which is completely correct. More than I can do some days!

The breastfeeding saga continues. I started feeding again during the day because I was not prepared to tolerate the slide in behaviour which accompanied stopping. He was ok at first when we cut out daytime feeding, but after about three weeks, he started tantrumming and just generally being less well behaved than usual. I started feeding again and just like pressing a switch, he is back to his old self. I really am fumbling in the dark about it all though. I just don't know what to do for the best. I will probably fanny about for so long that he will self wean anyway!!

Not much else doing. I am childminding three days a week at the moment which is making the weeks zoom by really quickly. It will soon be Christmas

Yokefleet · 16/07/2008 09:14

omg MB we haven't had summer yet!! lol

All well here, Thomas having his moments of being stroppy but nothing major. I am sure we will have much worse when the new arrival comes!!

mawbroon · 23/07/2008 15:36

Hope you are all ok. I am assuming that you are otherwise occupied ponto! We would love to hear how you are getting on.

Nothing new to report here at all. Johnny sometimes says something and I actually think "who said that" because he is coming out with some quite grown up sounding stuff

We are heading to London next week for a few days with my sister. We are going by train which should be an adventure for Johnny. Hopefully we can get down from Kings Cross to the underground without too much hassle. Johnny in backpack, suitcase on wheels and an unweildy car seat to lug. There are two of us so I am sure we will be fine....

Yokefleet · 23/07/2008 20:07

Ponto has had a little girl called Bryony.

MB I hope you have a lovely break in London, I bet Johnny will love the train! I know Tom would!

I am due a week on Sunday and am just about ready!! Still got a few bits to wash but all the new born stuff is ready. I just can't get over how much stuff he had from Thomas!!

ponto · 23/07/2008 22:33

Hi Yokefleet, thanks for popping onto the due in July thread and reminding me about this one! Bryony arrived on Monday, 16 days late, following an induction, so just like the other 2 dds. But she came in a big rush in the end and I gave birth on the antenatal ward with no pain relief (not for want of asking though!) When is your baby due, must be not long now?

MB, you are sounding more chilled about the breastfeeding now, I guess Johnny is now reaching the age when self-weaning is more likely. I am bf again, Bryony is a very big baby (10lb 8oz) so v demanding, I have been crying from pain of cracked nipples. Midwife actually suggested topping up with formula to give myself a break until the milk came in, which made a big difference. I would never have done it with dd1, but am much more relaxed about it now. Not needed to give any today though, so maybe she is finally getting enough from the breast.

Yokefleet · 24/07/2008 09:44

Glad all is well Ponto xxx and 10lb 8oz made me cross my legs!!! OMG!!! How are your other dd's finding having a new sister? I am still convinced that Thomas has NO idea of what is about to desend on us!! lol I am due on the 3rd Aug so 10 days!! I hope this baby arrives ontime like Thomas did as I'm not the most patient of people at the best of times!! lol x

ponto · 24/07/2008 11:39

Good luck Yokefleet, hope you don't have much longer to wait. The dds are a bit alarmed by all the crying that their new sister does, esp dd1, but Alice especially is very keen to cuddle her. It's been good having my mum and dh around so they have been spoiling dd1 and Alice and they haven't appeared jealous as yet.

mawbroon · 25/07/2008 22:25

Congratulations ponto. 10lbs 8oz wow, well done you! Not so nice re your sore nips though! Have you tried the biological nurturing position? I wish I had known about this when I had Johnny, it sounds really cool! At least you know you have MN to ask if you run into any bf probs!

YF I can't believe you are due next week!! It has been so quick. I hope that all goes well when the time comes.

Johnny and I had a lovely day today. Not what we had planned though! Went to our LLL group, but the place was locked and nobody turned up, so I guess it was cancelled! So, instead, we went to meet Rookiemater at the Botanic gardens which was lovely.

Hope you are all managing to get some sunshine while it lasts!

ponto · 26/07/2008 23:06

What is the biological nurturing position mawbroon, sounds interesting! Nipples are settling down thanks to Jelonet and less frequent feeds. Milk has come in with a vengeance, Bryony can now go 3-4 hours between feeds but I am still producing enough for 2 hourly feeds so feeling fairly uncomfortable!

It feels really strange not having Alice as my baby any more, I've hardly spent any time with her this week as dh has been at home and provided a lot of entertainment for the older 2 - building a wigwam out of bamboo canes, getting the paddling pool out, doing crafts, etc. I'm a bit worried that when he goes back to work I won't be able to maintain all this high quality interaction and they will have got used to it. I'm trying to encourage him to be a bit more boring!

Lovely day here, bought new patio furniture and had a barbeque, hope everyone else is enjoying the sunshine.

mawbroon · 27/07/2008 12:51

Glad to hear you have plenty milk! Wow, 3-4hrs already, that's great. Johnny had one big long feed from birth until 9 weeks! I couldn't put him down.

biological nurturing Here's some stuff about it. Basically you just lie back and let the baby get on with it . The LLL leader here said that this is what they are wanting to introduce as standard practice in the hosptal here, but of course these things take forwever to actually get up and running. The theory is that the baby gets a really good latch this way, which would hopefully help your sore nips! Let me know how you get on, if you get a minute.

DontlookatmeImshy · 28/07/2008 17:44

Congratulations Ponto.

Ouch at 10lb 8oz though. Ds2 is only 11lb 8 at 5 months.

I did that biological thing with ds1 the first time i fed him cos i was recovering from c-s and GA and couldn't move. Didn't realise it was a technique.

ponto · 30/07/2008 17:54

Thanks for tip mawbroon. I tried that position, it was very relaxing, but I get frustrated at not being able to get anything else done at the same time. I like to multi-task while feeding - just done an online grocery shop this afternoon!

mawbroon · 31/07/2008 17:27

LOL ponto, yes, I used to do that too. It's something to bear in mind if for any reason you run into latching probs though.

mawbroon · 06/08/2008 11:27

Hope you are all doing well. YF, any sign of your baby yet? LOL as if you wont' have heard that enough in RL

Not much doing here. We had a few days down in London last week and Johnny was delighted that we were staying right under the flight path at Heathrow. We went on the train, and he really loved the journey and was really good for the whole 4.5hrs each way.

In the past week, we have had three night of what I would class as sleeping through. Twice when we were away, he slept from 8pm until 5am, and then went back to sleep when he came in bed with me at 5am. Last night, he went to bed at 7pm, woke at 10pm for a pee and then slept all the way to 5am. This is fantastic in terms of what he has been doing recently. The downside was that I noticed the hormonal grumpiness from two nights in a row of hardly any night feeding. Either that or I got out of bed on the wrong side!

It is chucking it down with rain today, we have had a morning in. Johnny snoozed for an hour whilst cuddling in feeding, but it is so early in the day, I don't think it will affect his bedtime tonight.

We are going to go to soft play this afternoon. Wish me luck...
