Hi all

As I’m rubbish and keep double posting I thought I’d start a new thread as we’re nearly at 1k.
I don’t have all of the OG’s so apologies for anyone I miss or anyone I miss in general (blaming lack of coffee this morning!!)

@MrsR16 - just look at that face though 😍 he’s the most photogenic baby ever!
Haha I’m pleased ‘captain crap nap’ tickled you. I call Finn it every time he wakes himself up and won’t go back down 😂
He did well this morning though. He’s down again now, so fingers crossed.
Ah it’s a shame you can’t negotiate. I sold my soul to banking a long time ago so get to do that, but internal raises are non-existent unfortunately.

@purplefig - you’re doing so well with M and I’m pleased she’s on board! Remember, nights 3 and 7 they challenge a new routine again so don’t be disheartened if tomorrow goes a bit strange (although I’m sure it won’t!)
I think if we end up down that route, gradual retreat is what we would do too.

@ELW85 DH never gets up in the night either, ever. I’ve had it out with him so many times but on the nights I’ve tried to wake him to help it’s like trying to rouse a hibernating bear and honestly, it’s just easier to get up and do it myself!!
Haha captain crap nap - love it! You should get him a personalised vest for prosperity!!

@purplefig Oh yeah, DH is now convinced we have a future Olympic gymnast on our hands 🙈
Breaking point is horrible and I’m sorry you landed there but like you say, it gives you that massive drive to get back up again!! Hope it all goes really well!!

@MrsR16 He is just such a beauty! That’s so fab you have the family help on hand. I do, usually - but as my sister is so poorly at the moment my parents are helping with her toddler quite a lot!!

MrsR16 · 27/07/2020 12:26

@ELW85 oh he's not always... check this out 😂

@MrsEG am I right in thinking your sister's pregnant? My brain is absolute mush at the moment...

@MrsR16 she is! And suffering with hyperemesis very very badly, meds aren’t touching it. She can barely get out of bed so needs all the help she can get with her 2-year old! I feel so lucky to have twins when I talk to her that I got my two babies in one go!

ELW85 · 27/07/2020 12:37

@MrsEG - my DH is exactly the same?!? He can sleep through absolutely anything and go back to sleep in approx 0.01 seconds. Can’t tell you how infuriating it is 😂
What a fantastic idea! I’m 💯 getting a vest made now!
How’s your Monday treating you?
Oh your poor sister; is it hyperemesis?

@MrsR16 - ah bless him! He’s just so expressive; it’s lush. Proper little man already!

OP posts:
ELW85 · 27/07/2020 12:38

@MrsEG - crosspost! Oh bless her, that’s awful. Is she still BF too?

OP posts:
MrsR16 · 27/07/2020 12:50

@MrsEG I can only imagine how horrendous hyperemesis is! I was so lucky when I was pregnant - felt nauseous when I hadn't eaten, but that was it. I feel for her with a 2 year old as well!!

@ELW85 he really is such a little boy... 🙈 he's finally napping for a decent amount of time today! 😂

How's everyone else doing today??

purplefig · 27/07/2020 13:20

@MrsR16 thank you so much, so do I hope it works! Ethan is such a cutie. When did you start him on food? M is absolutely loving trying new things. She's only 5 months but she's already having 3 little purées a day! Are you leaning towards one role over the other?

@ELW85 thanks lovely 💕 I was feeling a bit broken so I'm glad it's promising at least! Thanks for reminding me about nights 3 and 7, I'll brace myself. I have to say so far it's been a dream, she did cry last night but only for 15 mins or so (and I was right there reassuring her) and already today she's been put down for naps without fussing at all, just cooing then head to the side and puts herself to sleep. I'm flabbergasted tbh.

@MrsEG gotta love his enthusiasm! yeah rock bottom is grim, but it sure as hell makes you determined. So sorry to hear about your sis, that sounds so rough. Has she got help with her two year old?

So far today is going grand. Up at 6.30, down at 8.30 for 2 hours (had to wake!), then down again at 12.30 and still crashed out. No resettling and she put herself to sleep in about 10 mins with no tears. I wonder what tonight will bring! X

ELW85 · 27/07/2020 15:27

@purplefig - wow that’s amazing! I might be joining you in giving that a go in a little while 😊

@MrsR16 - excellent news on the naps for you too! The captain is easy to get down but living up to his name and not staying down!

OP posts:
MrsR16 · 27/07/2020 15:29

@purplefig that sounds as though M's taking to the routine like a duck to water! Good on her (and mummy of course!) 😊 we started him early, but he was doing a baby bird impression and was able to sit up really early. He's having lumpy food now, mostly out of jars/pouches, but it won't be long before he's on "proper" solid food. Purées are great to start with! Just get the flavour in them 😊 I'm actually really torn between the both of them. There's no guarantee of course that I'll get offered either! But I have no idea what I'll do if I do get offered both...

purplefig · 27/07/2020 16:02

@ELW85 I would heartily recommend it, but then again I was done in + its only been 36 hours! Something to have in mind if/when you feel like it. How's your day going?

@MrsR16 yeah we started at about 20 weeks when the baby bird impersonations ramped up a gear and she was literally trying to steal our food. Going to stick with purées until 6 months and then go lumpy/solids. I think she'll be in her element! Ahhh it's so hard when there's a solid list of pros and cons for both. I'm sure whatever you do will be right.

It's miserable here but I took her out in the pram anyway and got to use the raincover for the first time. She on her final nap of the day and I'm going to warm up with a cup of tea I think.

Nicknames - have your baby's nicknames evolved over time?! We tried using one we both loved in theory, but it just doesn't sound right. Bit awks though as she's 5 months and loads of people call her it now 😬. We have a different one we think suits her more, so we're going to try it more this week and see. I guess nobody will really care and I'm making it into an issue 🤪

MrsEG · 27/07/2020 16:24

@ELW85 Yep, it drives me insane. In the earlier months some mornings he’d wake up like ‘did the boys sleep through?’ And I’d be there with bags under my eyes through gritted teeth like ‘They did not’. I’m lucky really in that they are good sleepers now as it really is all on me! Must be a man thing!!
She is still BFing!! She’s trying very very hard to wean off now though, her daughter was 2 in May and my sis has been ready for a very long time. She only uses the boob for comfort these days. She’s managed to get her down to just the bedtime feed and she’s really hoping that she can stop that soon too!

@MrsR16 Yeah she’s having such a tough time of it, she’s lost 5lb in a month which really concerns her but the GP keeps saying her ketones are fine, but they do keep a good eye on her. The things we do to have these babies! Good luck for Thurs!

@purplefig Sounds like her sleep is going great! I had every intention of a late afternoon pram stroll but the Bank called me just as they were getting cranky so I plonked them in their cots instead. Means I haven’t left the house all day which I hate! DH is at the gym until 9 - if I can stay awake I might do a late night dog walk!
When you say nicknames - we call Conor ‘Conorbean’ do you mean something like that? Or like an abbreviation of her name (like Vikki for Victoria kinda thing)? Either way, she’s yours - call her whatever you like ;)

MrsEG · 27/07/2020 16:30

I meant to add this to my message but hit send!

So we start weaning the boys on Friday 🙃 They are 6 months old on Tuesday and are more than ready (Conor bloody stands up) I think I had to get myself ready more than them! I’ve been reading over Wean in 15 and think we’re gonna do that, finger foods with the purée and some cognispoons and let them crack on with it. Has anyone else used his, or similar, methods? How have you found it? Also did everyone start with lunch? Seems to be the most popular option for starting.

purplefig · 27/07/2020 17:54

@MrsEG ahhh it's so fab you can just plonk them and go though! I'm hoping M and I get there one day. A late night solo dog walk (promptly followed by bed!) sounds perfect. Yes so I mean like your Victoria example. I mean we will just use it and people will go with the flow I guess 😂. Good grief your poor sister. Is she still in 1st tri if I recall? Is it likely to improve or is HG set for the long haul? Poor woman.

Your weaning plan sounds perfect for the boys! Just prepare yourself for mess if they're feeding themselves. (A shower curtain on the floor under high chairs works, or a non fussy dog). I'd also say from speaking to my mum friends it's best to follow their lead, some babies crack right on with feeding themselves and others do better with spoonfeeding to start.

MrsEG · 27/07/2020 18:09

@purplefig It took some time and effort haha but they do go down really well now. Just waiting for that 8 month regression to come along and bugger it all up haha! She’s first tri, 10 weeks. She had it with baby 1 and it lasted through to 30 weeks and peaked at 20 weeks. It just sounds so hideous!
I actually know of an example like you’re saying - some friends have a daughter called Matilda, initially called her Tilly. Then decided they hated it and preferred Tilda. I only think of her as Tilda now!
Yeah I completely wanna take their lead on it all. See if they prefer the purée or the finger food, do they wanna do it themselves or be fed, etc. Our dog eats literally everything other than, weirdly, banana so hoping he’ll help with the clean up! We’ve had them in the high chairs and have just passed them spoons to see what they do, Conor took it and rammed it in to his mouth but Ruairí seemed happier when I put it in his mouth so I could have two very different weaning experiences ahead!

MrsR16 · 27/07/2020 22:21

@ELW85 omg I totally missed your comment earlier! I'm sorry... cross posted, clearly! 😂 how is Finn doing?

@purplefig don't be fooled - she will cough and splutter on lumpy foods! 😂 it is funny but don't be surprised! I don't have an nickname as such for Ethan... he's just a "squigglebutt"!

@MrsEG oh goodness, 5lb in a month? Bless her!! I did start with lunch, purely because if he had a reaction to anything, I hadn't ruined the whole day and anything would appear before bedtime! 😂 I give Ethan finger foods and purée/lumpy food - he's doing alright 😊

ELW85 · 28/07/2020 02:59

I was wrong - THIS is the regression 😢

OP posts:
MrsR16 · 28/07/2020 07:32

@ELW85 we had an utterly crap night too. I am broken today!

ELW85 · 28/07/2020 07:45

@MrsR16 - I have no idea what happened but he basically woke up every hour and wouldn’t get into a deep sleep. I’m shattered.
Did his bottle at 2.40, I finally got back to bed at 4.20 after he full on laughed at me! Then he was awake by 5.20.
Every morning it’s a 5am ish job. I have no idea how to get him to sleep even til 6!

Are you ok? What was Ethan up to?

OP posts:
MrsR16 · 28/07/2020 07:57

@ELW85 similar thing to Ethan! I'm sure these babies have a comms line that we don't know about. He was fine from 7 till about 11 and then it all went to hell. He's also fought his first nap today! I've been in tears, I'm bloody exhausted, he's overtired. Just one of those days today! I had him on me from when he woke up before 5 till he fell asleep at nearly 6. I don't sleep if he's laying on me - it scares me too much! He then lasted about 4 minutes in his cot before waking up and crying because he'd rolled on his front which he didn't like 🙄 I then gave up and got up.

MrsEG · 28/07/2020 08:15

@MrsR16 Yep - I was telling her I gained 12lb in the first tri haha! Talk about two very different pregnancies! I gained 30kg total 😫
Yeah that’s such a good point actually! I’m a bit concerned about reactions as with Ruairí having eczema he’s a slightly higher risk for it, so yeah lunch seems a good idea! Gonna do the big weaning shop tomorrow!! DH is so cute as well he picked them up a few tubs of banana custard he saw ‘it sounded like something I’d like’ haha!

Sorry to read about rubbish nights! I don’t even know what to say. Rest up as much as you can; coffee and sweets!

Also I don’t know if everyone remembers ValidUser from the TTC boards but I saw yesterday she has finally gotten her BFP 😍 it’s given me all the warm and fuzzies x

ELW85 · 28/07/2020 08:32

@MrsEG - thanks! It’s just so frustrating when I thought we’d done the regression but last night made me think otherwise.
He went down for his nap this morning and put his arms over his head, woke himself up and cried and I couldn’t resettle him so it’s going to be a loooong day.
OMG I’m so happy for her!! I was thinking about her a while ago but couldn’t see her on the threads. That’s made my day!!
And about your earlier comment about DHs sleeping through. Mine this morning “morning son, did you have a nice night? Emma - I don’t have any docs left in the drawer” well then....

OP posts:
Fivebyfive2 · 28/07/2020 08:57

Hi, sorry I tried to post yesterday but was at my mums and didn't get chance! Omg these babies 😮

@MrsEG, that's amazing about Valid User! Made my day 😀 I think Flapjackered is probably quite far along now too now that I think about it?! Aaaagh weaning fun.... I started with lunch as it seemed easier. They're all different. Joe isn't good with finger foods but has great spoon control. Although he did manage to pick up and eat some banana yesterday! Ha ha your dh sounds like mine, he's always asking when Joe can have rice pudding! Got a pouch of it the other day, they shared it 😂

@ELW85, hopefully Finn powers through the regression quickly! Eeeeegh when they haven't slept and the husbands do not even realise! I just go '5am now, papa time!' Although Joe has, thankfully, started doing a lot more 6am wake ups recently. Doesn't sound much, my god it makes a difference!

@MrsR16, Joe has been very similar. Sunday he went to sleep at 6pm and we figured he'd wake after an hour or so, but he slept until 9 and then wouldn't go back down until midnight! He had 2 total meltdowns in between. Then he slept till 4, fed and went back off until 6.30. Last night, went up with him at 7, took until 8.45 to get him down, 1 mini meltdown and he woke every 2/2.5 hours until 6am,although thankfully they were short wakes. He fought his nap this morning too?!

MIL is coming later, god I hope Joe is OK when she's here or it'll be very trying 😬

On the plus side, had a nice day at my parents yesterday! We got Joe a new toy and here he is, very seriously figuring it out 😀

@ELW85 @MrsR16 Sorry you had such rubbish nights. As much as we are told how much we will be up in the night with babies nothing prepares you for a sheer torture of it 😩 Hope they get to the other side of whatever phase or regression they are going through and you start to get a bit more rest.

@MrsEG 30kg! No wonder you were in pain :( Such lovely news about ValidUser ☺️ We started with weaning at lunch time. Definitely best earlier in the day as you can check for reactions and I just couldn't face all that prep and clearing up so early in the morning for breakfast 🙈

After nearly 9 months we went for our first night away alone at the weekend and it was fabulous! Daisy stayed with MIL and was very well behaved and it was just the recharge I needed. She got her fifth tooth in the week and was such hard work that I ended up feeling really down so it was perfect to have some proper time away. Dealing with her whinging the next day whilst nursing a hangover not so much Grin

MrsR16 · 28/07/2020 09:44

@MrsEG wow, 30kg? That's crazy! Wonderful news about ValidUser! 😊 she's been waiting such a long time...

@Fivebyfive2 oh look at him! Super cute! They all love rings!

@TrashKitten10 that sounds amazing! I'm glad Daisy was alright 😊 even better for you and DH to get some time together!

Ethan is all about his dad today... "Dadadadadada" he's going! 😂 he's not even here! He's at work!
