Hi all

As I’m rubbish and keep double posting I thought I’d start a new thread as we’re nearly at 1k.
I don’t have all of the OG’s so apologies for anyone I miss or anyone I miss in general (blaming lack of coffee this morning!!)

@Fivebyfive2 I've got a trifle in the fridge ready for devouring once DH and I have actually eaten dinner!! Profiteroles sound much better though 😂 as far as Ethan's meals, I'm being very lazy (and money-conscious) and generally whatever main meal he has for lunch, I'll give him again for dinner. With lunch, I give him extra finger foods which he absolutely loves! We're only just on 3 meals a day, so we're still figuring things out. Once he can cope with proper solid food a bit more, he'll just eat what we do (that's the plan anyway!)

@ELW85 he didn't really ever drop off again! He was quiet and still, but still awake. DH's back was done in this morning though 😂 sleeping with him in the bed at all (whether on us or not) absolutely petrifies the life out of me, but I was so exhausted I fell back asleep! In the nicest possible way, I really hope I don't see you at 3! 🤣 Ooh, exciting news about the house!!

MrsR16 · 22/07/2020 03:28

And here we are again... I'm very bored of this 3am club!!!!

Fivebyfive2 · 22/07/2020 07:06

So a slight improvement last night... 2 tiny wakes between 7.30 and 1.30, was up 1.30 till 2.30 and then slept until 6. We'll see what today brings!!

@MrsR16, oh nooooo Ethan be good to your mama today please! Xx

@ELW85, how did Finn do? X

MrsR16 · 22/07/2020 07:31

@Fivebyfive2 yay! Well done Joe! Ethan eventually got back to sleep about 3:50, so he was awake for about an hour and 10. We then heard him at 5:45 this morning, which really isn't too horrendous! I didn't cry last night either! 👍 😂

ELW85 · 22/07/2020 08:03

Morning!

@MrsR16 - I was with you at 3.30 this morning but I was too stressed to go on my phone 😢
It sounds like a bit of an improvement, maybe? Even if just with the lack of tears!

@Fivebyfive2 - that sounds loads better, well done Joe!!

So we had the usual midnight wake up (down by 7.40 after staring at his hands FORVER) where he was upset he was awake but kept taking his dummy out so I had to pin his arms under a blanket and hold the dummy in.
Bottle at 3.30 then somehow asleep by 4 even though he wouldn’t take his dummy - kept tongue thrusting it out. Then 6, 6.30 then 7.15

I don’t get how he sometimes wants a dummy then doesn’t and van go to sleep without one then can’t?!
I thought it was all over when I put him back down this morning after his bottle. He was wide awake and gurgling away. I’m so confused!

Oh and we have his other Imms today. Definitely not looking forward to that at all.

Hi all

A quick question. What's your first thing in the morning routine look like. I.e. when do you get baby dressed, you showered and dressed, baby fed and you breakfast. We've not got a consistent wake up time here so trying to get up before her hasn't worked. Though for the third day in a row DHs alarm has woken us up as it's blaring! Could kill him.

MrsR16 · 22/07/2020 08:16

@ELW85 these babies love to keep us guessing don't they?!? I think it is an improvement (albeit a slight one!) so I'm taking it as a win! 😂😂 Ethan was a bugger when he first learnt how to take his dummy out... 🙈 oh, I'm sure you'll both be ok with his jabs! Lots of cuddles on the cards for you today 😊

@LikeTheFruit morning! Hope you're ok. We get up around 6ish with Ethan - he's normally wide awake by then! I then make up his bottle while DH changes him. Then I jump in the shower while DH is feeding him. I get breakfast whenever I can (normally not till about 10ish 😂) although I do sometimes forget! If I don't get a shower while DH is doing the morning feed, I either take Ethan in the bathroom with me, sitting in his rocking chair we've got, or wait till he's napping and speed shower!

MrsEG · 22/07/2020 08:27

Morning all - Ah so sorry to see people still having awful nights! Coffees all round!

@ELW85 They don’t come with manuals these kids do they! I try to remind myself they’re human, what they liked last week they might not like this. The boys won’t sleep now unless they have room to roam. Conor only sleeps well on his belly. Ruairí only sleeps on his side. I just leave them to it! Ruairí also used to love his dummy but now hates it. Sometimes I can’t find it and I’ll spot it grasped in his hand because he’s yanked it out!
The key for me really was getting them to just learn how to fall asleep on their own. So putting them down awake and letting them drift off. I found the more things I was ‘relying on’ the more I’d be convinced they were the only reason they’d be sleeping but it wasn’t at all. I had to stop swaddling, they now hate dummies, etc.
If it does bother you I know DH is against it but I really do recommend a sleep consultant or sleep programme! Why struggle through when there’s things out there that can help (that’s how I sold it to DH!)
Good luck with the jabs! I found the last set fine but they were super snoozy and clingy afterwards. They were the only set they had no temps with though!

@LikeTheFruit We all get up at 7, I get them up and bring them downstairs so the day has started if that makes sense! Get them both fed, a bit of play time for them on the playmat usually just rolling about on a foil blanket as they love it. I put them down for their first nap around 9ish and that’s when I get dressed and have my breakfast - showers though, I’m ashamed to say I’ve had more ‘whores baths’ with my baby wipes than I care to admit!!

@MrsR16 Oh Ethan!! I hope so much this is just a regression or development thing and he’s back to sleeping like a trooper very soon!

@Fivebyfive2 Sounds like Joe did much better - and his feeding sounds fab too! I’m really nervous to wean them if I’m honest, just the idea of doing it with both - it’s already hard enough getting both their milk feeds in without then having to think about getting some food in to them both! I think I’ll start with their one meal a day as lunch so I’m a bit more with it and just see how we go!

MrsEG · 22/07/2020 09:28

Also - I was randomly wondering how some of our past grads are getting on at the moment! @GemmaJen @MrsC87 @EltzBee
@Delilah7 @Bostonfern @crossfitgirl
Not even sure you girls are still getting notifications etc but hope you’re all doing great!!

ELW85 · 22/07/2020 09:42

@LikeTheFruit- we usually wake up around 6.30 and I try to get him back to sleep til 7. Then DH brings the bottle and coffee for me, I feed him then get him down for his nap about 1h30 after. Then when he next wakes up, I leave him with some sensory stuff whilst I jump in the shower and grab food then get on with the rest of the day really!

@MrsEG - you’re right to be fair, they change just like we do! And yesterday he fell asleep on his own (no dummy or anything else) twice; it just seems it’s the getting himself back to sleep that’s inconsistent. But I suppose he just needs to practice it!

@MrsR16 - thank you and you should definitely take it as a win! He was ok after his last jabs so fingers crossed 😊

OP posts:
ELW85 · 22/07/2020 09:51

@LikeTheFruit - I should point out he’s in his sleepyhead and a crib that I push to the bathroom door that I leave open whilst I have a 30 second shower so I can keep an eye on him. Poor kid!

OP posts:
Fivebyfive2 · 22/07/2020 09:51

@MrsEG, same with the whore showers!! Good shout to the others, was wondering similar! @stormtrooperjulian @thumper59 @TrashKitten10, @ranchoRelaxo, how are you all doing? Xx

@ELW85, good luck with the jabs!! That was an awful time for me; he had his jabs, then got an eye infection and a cold, all within the 4 months regression, right when lockdown was at its strictest. I really struggled and I'm sure it's why Joe's sleep never recovered, I was relying totally on 'bad habits' just to get through it all.

So I'm following the programme roughly, since yesterday afternoon. As a guide it is good, but some of the bits won't really fit, for example we know evening baths don't work and also they say to give lunch at like 10.30/11, before the nap, but that seems really early to me?? I think today Joe will be ready for a sleep about 10.30, so hoping he has until about 12ish and then I'll give his lunch? This weekend we start trying to fully break the feeding to sleep, which will involve a fair bit of crying (and comforting!) so I'm a bit nervous for that...

Fivebyfive2 · 22/07/2020 09:55

@cupcakesandglitter, how are you? Xx

MrsR16 · 22/07/2020 09:57

@MrsEG I bloody hope it's the regression!! 😂

@ELW85 what time are his jabs?

@Fivebyfive2 please tell me "whore showers" was a typo?!? 😂😂😂😂😂

MrsEG · 22/07/2020 10:01

@MrsR16 @Fivebyfive2 You mean you’ve never had a whores bath?? No time for a shower - quick baby wipe under the pits and half a can of deodorant over your body?! Haha!

@Fivebyfive2 Yeah id definitley say with sleep guides just steal the bits that work for you! Weirdly our nursery have told us they give lunch between 11 and 11:30 I remember thinking that sounded so early!

@ELW85 He just needs his practice, but also to figure out what works best for him! The rolling weeks my god they were worse than the sleep regression but I just let them do their thing (through bloodshot eyes!!) as I could tell they were just trying to get comfy in the cot and once they’d figured it out they were fine! They sleep better than ever now even if I do still have a lump in my throat when I see them face down on the monitor!!!

MrsR16 · 22/07/2020 10:10

@MrsEG oh!!! 😂 that makes sense! They're know as "squaddie showers" in my house!

MrsC87 · 22/07/2020 10:15

@MrsEG hey thanks for remembering us 😊 I've not been on Mumsnet for ages as couldn't keep up with the chat and being a mum lol. Still get email notifications though so it came through this morning you had mentioned me! All good here, Charlie was 1 on the 9th July 🥳 I'm back at work now 3 days a week and have settled into w nice routine. Charlie is loving nursery too!
Hope everyone is well? I'll try and catch up with everyone now I've popped back! xx

ELW85 · 22/07/2020 10:23

This chat is making me laugh, thanks ladies!

Attached a ‘preview’ shot from the hell that was the photo shoot!

@MrsR16 - you’re in the forces aren’t you? I don’t think I’ve ever asked properly! Jabs are 2pm. I wanted them later today so he could get some decent rest beforehand. Send me good thoughts!

@MrsEG - I bet when he goes into his cot it’ll be all change again. I left the room yesterday for one of his naps, came back in and he was spark out. 🙅🏼‍♀️

@Fivebyfive2- your 4 month hands sound awful bless you! I’m still convinced sleep is all about survival.
Any sleep any how, haha!
Try not to worry about the feed to sleep stuff. You could just gradually do it earlier and earlier so feed to drowsy, then til his sucking slows etc?

@MrsC87 great to hear from you!! Wow, a year old already?!? That's crazy! Glad you and Charlie are getting on so well 😊

@ELW85 I'm actually not - the closest I am is a volunteer with the air cadets. The RAF allow some of its adult volunteers the luxury of wearing their uniform and I'm one of those. Both my parents are ex-service though! 😊 gorgeous photo!!! Just beautiful 😍

ELW85 · 22/07/2020 11:05

@MrsR16 - ah wow that’s still awesome and a lot less stressful than being in full time! Is that how your parents met? I’ve got this total romantic notion in my head already 😍
And thank you! I didn’t know if it was a bit cheesy but it’s one of the handful we got before a meltdown ensued, haha!

OP posts:
MrsR16 · 22/07/2020 11:11

@ELW85 sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't! 😂 volunteering on top of a full time job can be hard. But it's all worth it knowing I could potentially make a difference to a young person's life! Yes, that's how my parents met - in the middle of a muddy field! 🤣 aw not at all cheesy! Just a mummy loving her baby ❤️

MrsC87 · 22/07/2020 11:12

@MrsR16 how old is everyone else's LO's? xx

ELW85 · 22/07/2020 11:14

@MrsR16 - yeah to be fair, I don’t know how you do it on top of a full time job! Definitely a Wonder Woman!
Ah that’s lush ❤️ I love stories of how people meet when they’re so romantic (it’s like a Hollywood plot in my head, haha!)
DH and I met online so not quite as romantic...it’ll probably be how everyone meets now but back when I was starting out dating, online had such a stigma attached to it.

OP posts:
MrsR16 · 22/07/2020 11:25

@MrsC87 my Ethan's 7 and a half months old now! Growing like a weed... 😂 xx

@ELW85 I have no idea either! I've been doing it throughout lockdown too - virtually mind, rather than face to face. I think it will certainly be interesting to see how the dating trend goes! I wonder how Ethan will meet The One? If he does of course; he might be very happy on his own! Plus the fact that Mummy won't let him date till he's about 30 anyway 😂
