madeindevon2 · 02/10/2007 20:00

hmmm. freddie naps 3 times during the day normally. for about 45 mins to an hour each time. seems about right then?
he goes down v well at 7pm bedtime. but wakes quite few times in night. cant work out why.
just "being a baby" according to mum.....
i was spoilt early on with him sleeping 6 to 8 hour stretches....now only getting 4 or 5 on a good night and often only 3 hrs at a time, im wondering what im doing wrong.
everyone saying dont wean or give babyrice as it makes no difference. just got to keep feeding when hes hungry then even if thats every 3 or 4 hrs during the night?

madeindevon2 · 02/10/2007 20:03

thats between feeds. he was awake at 10.30 11 and 11.30 last night. i started to lose track of what time it was after that but i was up a good few more times btwn 12 and 5.30 too.
in fact im bushed now. think im gonna get some sleep while i can.
will check in for wisdom in the morning!!!
hope we all have good nights with our darlings

twelveyeargap · 02/10/2007 20:10

No, solids don't seem to be making much difference. I've given them first out of curiosity and have continued because she took to it like the proverbial duck and positively squeaks with excitement when she realises it's apple time.

When they're sick or having a growth spurt, they'll wake up more often, even if they were sleeping longer before.

twelveyeargap · 02/10/2007 20:14

Incidentally... When does baby-brain go away?
Yesterday I flooded the cellar AGAIN. I also completely forgot to go and meet the priest about the baptism on Sunday . Only remembered this morning and had to call and apologise profusely. This evening I decided to cook all the sweet potato so that I could puree and freeze some and I've just seasoned ALL of it so it's not suitable for baby now. Bugger.

AbbyLou · 02/10/2007 20:50

Hi guys, just catching up quickly. Sorry not been on today, I've been to WORK!!!! Well, on a course anyway. It was nice to be out and about as Abby and not C or R's mummy, and wonderful to use my brain again after so long. I didn't have to think about a potty or a bottle all day. R had her settling in day with the cm who thought she was adorable. She said ' she likes to be on the move doesn't she?'. I could think of other ways to put it but at least it all went well.
We have a busy week this week. Tomorrow I need to clean from top to bottom though I'm sure I'll end up on here if R allows! On Thursday we are off to Alton Towers and on Friday C finally gets the cast off his arm. We have a wedding at the weekend and then it's only 1 more weel until I'm back at work full time!! I have mixed feelings about it but overall I am looking forward to it. I have 1 week to settle in and then it's half term for a week so shouldn't be too bad.
As for napping in the day - as most of you know, R doesn't often know the meaning of the word and she has always slept like a log. In fact she's been going 7-7 since 9 weeks.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 02/10/2007 21:15

I don't think it does TYG. We are all doomed for life!!!

Nairobiorbust · 02/10/2007 21:49

brain, brain? whats one of them then? (too much evidence of lack of mine on this thread)

Nairobiorbust · 02/10/2007 21:51

sorry about your hand MrsJB..

Isn't it funny that the formula is so expensive when French woman just don't do breastfeeding? Is it subsidised then in this country?

twelveyeargap · 02/10/2007 23:14

Do you know; if you put plastic backed bibs into the tumble dryer, they melt?

Pinkjenny · 03/10/2007 07:54

TYG - I don't know what quality plastic is on your bibs! Must be superior to mine, they don't melt in the drier.

Hope all is well with everyone, have caught up. L is fine, she too despises the daytime sleep, and every day its a bit hit and miss as to whether she'll go off or we'll have an hour of crying first. Seems to be the same as M, SOH, if you can catch her and rock her in time, its all fine, but if you miss the window of opportunity its misery for ages.

She's over the rash now thank god, although I am irreparably scarred forever by it. I've got some kind of a bug at the mo, god, who knew how much harder it is to look after a baba when you're not feeling good. Talk about draining. Not sure what's up, just feel nauseous and tired. And no, I'm not pregnant, unless I have been visited by the Immaculate Conception fairy.

DH keeps on calling me 'sis' in a snidy reference to our lack of sex life. Which is very helpful to the situation.

largeginandtonic · 03/10/2007 09:47

PMSL Pinkjenny... dh was having a little sulk this week for much the same thing. I go to bed first and he potters around, brushes teeth and comes to bed 10 mins later, im always asleep by then and if he tries to wake me im soooo very, very grouchy He made it to bed at the same time as me the other night with very hopeful eyes.

TYG i did know that about the bibs, i have a few still a bit melted and crunchy at the edges I bet you havent put a nappy in there yet have ya? I chuck all nappies, washing, breast pads etc.. i a pile at the top of the stairs and carry it all down in the morning. Inevitably the occasional nappy or breast pads ends up in the machine, tis not great. The gell stuff in the nappies goes everywhere especially when you put it in with some bedding, take the duvet out and shake it to straighten it

Think of Pebble sunning herself in Spain >

So far this morning i have not had time for my cup of tea (bad) had to clean up Hugs who decided he would stick his hand in his poo filled nappy, choosing to show me when i just sat down to feed a very pissed off hungry Beau (very bad) Im going to toddlers in a mo for a rest

AM excellent news on the job! You will be in charge of someone, how very cool Other than children i mean, but then are we really in charge of them?

Gawd i watched that awful woman again last night, evil. The 'Bringing up Baby' one. Wish she would come for a chat on here

largeginandtonic · 03/10/2007 09:55

I dont think i told you all what the twins did to me yesterday did i?

I went in to wake them up in the morning for breakfast and could see they were under their duvets. I stood there thinking they are not moving, so spoke a little louder. Next thing i know they have leapt out their wardrobe at me! They had carefully put body shapes (like Ferris Beullers day off)in their beds to fool me. I was laughing so much my cheeks ached

One of them was being asked at the table what the emblem was on DH cap, he said " It's the Queens hat". Cue the other twin and me falling about the floor laughing as twin 1 looked on like we were bonkers, "you mean her crown" said twin 2.

PMSL they are like a comedy duo at the moment

Mrsjaffabiffa · 03/10/2007 10:02

morning.

I am so with the whole 50's thing. Children should be seen when requested but certainly never heard. God isn't she awful. Those poor twins! I'm not adverse to routine but gee thats just cruel surely? Whats the point of having children if you can't enjoy them?

Woo Hoo I lost 3lb this week!! Just keep running, Just keep running!

juliewoolie · 03/10/2007 10:26

A circumcised yesterday - ouch [hate mum smiley]

Will catch up later the ironing is calling me.

Hope everyone is well, by the way LG&T get those children on telly you will make a fortune

Nairobiorbust · 03/10/2007 10:30

LG&T I do so love your children..if I send mine over when I am packing I fear they may never want to come back

lalalalalala not listening MrsJB.

Oooo April I forgot to say congrats on the job, how exciting! They just can't manage without you can they? I s'pose its time I started looking, can't be a lady of leisure all the time

007 if off to Russia with love today. 3 nights of peaceful-bed-to-myself-no-hint-of-nooky sleep.

J is all dribble and snot and red cheeks, nice.. poor bean. But I did manage to get a bottle down him at 10.30 when he stirred - yippee, will try again tonight.

TYG, my tumble drier positively ate one brand new very expensive bib, do you think the same thing happens to Nature's Nappies or will they disintegrate completely? Hmmm I feel an experiment coming on...

twelveyeargap · 03/10/2007 10:36

Great news about the job April.

I think I forgot to series link that baby program. Doh.

How is A, Julie? I think I'd want my boys "done" (DH was when he was a pre-teen for medical reasons), but I heard it's hard to get it done here unless it's for religious or medical reasons.

Here, does this sound like teething? A is grizzly and clingy, constantly sucking and chewing anything - my nipple, her pyjama sleeve, a toy and makes this grrrr sound and little moans. She wants to fall asleep on the boob and then keeps sucking and moans in her sleep if I take her off. (We were past this ages ago - the feeding to sleep.) I can see two little tooth shaped marks in her lower gum, but I've no idea how long they've been there. Anyone? Don't want to give her loads of Calpol if she doesn't need it, iyswim. Ta.

twelveyeargap · 03/10/2007 10:37

Your twins are gas LG&T.

Nairobiorbust · 03/10/2007 10:47

We wanted ds1 done, but the NHS wouldn't allow us...Julie I hope A recovers quickly.

Sounds like teeth to me TYG, IMO the first two to come are always the worse, but the drooling, biting, moaning can go on for a couple of months before anything happens. If you don't want to give her calpol, try the homeopathic teething granules, can't remember the name of them, but you can get them in most chemists, tescos etc nowadays. Something round and plasticky to chew on helps too, personally I find the teething ring things are pants and usually give J a simple plastic or wooden ring toy, which is easy for him to hold and get into his mouth.

HumptyDumptyWasPushed · 03/10/2007 11:01

Anybody want to buy a doll? It's very lifelike. You'd almost think she was a real baby what with all the feeding and grizzling, but she's a doll honest. How many farking growth spurts does one baby need? The charty thing in her red book follows a curve, leaps up a curve during a growth spurt, follows that curve, leaps up to the next one etc. There's a wee leap at 10 days, 6 weeks, 12 weeks and 16 weeks and I think we're going to have another. Feed feed feed feed feed feed feed feed feed feed feed feed feed feed cry feed feed feed feed feed feed feed feed sleep for 5 minutes cry feed feed feed feed feed feed feed feed mum cries feed feed feed feed cry feed feed the world end in a ball of flames.

Watched Claire Verity last night and dh mumbled something about stamping on her head. Those poor babies, I want to cuddle them. Yes, it's all very well and good saying 'ooh look we're out drinking champers and the twins are only 4 days old' but they're actually at home sobbing and wondering why their worlds are so empty. The scariest thing is that at first the mothers are distraught at having to follow such a routine but eventually settle into it. How much do you reckon they have to withdraw from their own instincts and how much of a wall do they put up to be able to do that? I want to shake them and scream at them. These precious moments are going to be gone and you are missing out. Get a dog and don't inflict this madness on tiny babies. I want Claire Verity round here observing me. Reckon I can push her into insanity by playing folk music at her, offending her by cuddling my baby and whipping my norks out at intervals. Mad as a box of frogs she is.

Anyway, dh has taken M off for an hour so I can snooze and I appear to be on MN. Going to see if I can find a lone gingerbread man in one of our empty cupboards. [hopeful]

LG&T I love your children. It's like Sunday afternoons watching DBoM listening to your tales.

Hope the finger's better MrsJB- ouch!

HumptyDumptyWasPushed · 03/10/2007 11:03

Ashton and Parsons powders were sent from the Gods as a personal gift to mothers everywhere.

juliewoolie · 03/10/2007 11:03

sorry god I'm rubbish.

congrats on the new job AM - well done

3lb Mrs JB not fair think I will forever be lugging around my baby weight, can you run an extra mile for me

Defo sounds like teething we have had that for a few weeks now absoloutly soaking everything in sight with dribble I have a perm slime mark on my shoulder. Tomme Tippee do these great dummy things called gummys - they look like a minin gumguard and you can put them in the fridge - A really enjoys chewing on them when ,my boob is out of action.

TYG, A is fine I was petrified about him having it done DP had it snipped for medical reasons when he was 6 so wanted Archie to have it done just in case, and living in the states like we did I saw loads of little boys when I was nannying over there that had been circumcised. We did have to pay for it (£100) but it was quite easy to organise they have a special dep at Miled End Hosp that do them.

Right really must crack on with the ironing.

HumptyDumptyWasPushed · 03/10/2007 11:05

Forgot to say congrats AM! Fab news. I'm still trying to find a way of never going back to work. I'm so shocked that I don't want to go back.

Ooh dh is back. Must pretend I haven't been MNing instead of sleeping.

Nairobiorbust · 03/10/2007 11:41

why is it that people called Camilla always have horses? 6ft tall blonde letting agent has just been round,j charmed her enough with his stripey pants and red cheeks, for her to reduce her commission

HumptyDumptyWasPushed · 03/10/2007 11:45

I know a Camilla. Actually says 'what larks' in company. Lovely girl, several horses and a cash fund from daddy. Just upset the apple cart by marrying a bit of rough. It's the talk of Norfolk.

DH came back with a puzzle book (yeah yeah I'm a sad, prematurely middle-aged woman who likes puzzles), a bacon sandwich and a bag of lemon bonbons. All for meeeee! He also had several oddly shaped parcels which he has hidden somewhere- probably the garage, don't go in there as tis full of greasy things and bits of bikes- and I suspect they are Christmas-related.

M is asleep! First time since 6.30am!

madeindevon2 · 03/10/2007 13:24

3lb mrs jb. very jealous! im determined to go for a swim tomorrow. checked out the creche and it seems good. so gonna try tomorrow.....(the thought of leaving him with a stranger is ever so slightly worrying....i dont mind mum sister friends etc but.....i suppose this is totally natural!)
also im bit confused why would you want you darling son chopped up unless it was for medical or religious reasons??
