Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hello all
It seems like ages since i was last on. Have just read through the whole thread (phew!) and realised - in a soppy kind of way - that I had missed "hearing" you all - iyswim.
Busy few weeks. Spent time in Peterborough Hosp with S last week - croup. Poor little boy. It was a little embarressing because the nurses on the ward all recognised me - I have been in a number of times over the past few years with DS1 and wheezing so good to see we are carrying on the family tradition (humph!) Actually I find myself getting quite defensive with friends and colleagues - they keep saying sympathetically "oh dear, you have had such probs with your childrens' health" and I'm thinking "they aren't unhealthy just wheezy - it's different". I bet we end up with bronchiolitis though...
Relief to see I am not the only one agonizing over weaning. S is 21 weeks and I have been trying to hold off weaning (DS1 was well on the way by this stage) but he has been waking more and more and is now not settling down to bed - bit of a shock because he was being a real angel about bed time. He has also stopped putting on weight so gave him baby rice last night - had to give him a quick feed first but then he wolfed it down.
Quick medical alert - ladies check your boobs. Another friend of mine (early 30s, 2 v young kids) just had a mastectomy - all well so far. I thought I had found a lump on my boob over the weekend so had it checked out yesterday and all well but the dr said to be particularly aware when bf because it can be particularly virulant. Sorry to be depressing but felt I should raise it.
Will stop now - both children at nursery for morning - S enjoying it now. I must not spend the whole time chatting.....TIDYING to do

largeginandtonic · 02/10/2007 09:24

Would love to join you in a cafe with earl gray and a scone, not so much the xmas shopping. I have not started but really need to, this year the kids are off to stay with dick tit their dad I drop them off a couple of days before xmas and get them back the day after boxing day. So he must play the roll of Father Christamas, woe betide him if he screws it up. Am trying not to think about it.

Eggcellent news on M managing to get some sleep and you.

Not so great for little J, perhaps he has a tooth brewing?

B about to have his brekkie, i wont give it to him till the school run is over as im just too busy before and there is no guarantee he will be awake. He is curently on his mat furious that he cant roll over pmsl

largeginandtonic · 02/10/2007 09:27

Why does my 'roll' not look right?

Aneme lovely to 'hear' you Hope little S is on the mend and does not get Bronchiolitis. The twins and Jonah had that, nasty thing it is. Lots of non wheezy vibes on the way

Am off to brekkie him now

SOH did you feed M solid food in the end?

HumptyDumptyWasPushed · 02/10/2007 09:32

Role.

M has still only ever had bm. Apart from a mouthful of roast potato which she surreptitiously stole at about 18 weeks and shoved in her mouth. She's still putting on at least half a pound a week and is fairly content so I'm holding on for a bit longer.

Hey anneme! I'm not the only one frequenting the hospital with a croupy baby then. It's bloomin' horrible.

Anyway, earl grey and scone awaits...

PS MN is truly great- dh didn't end up staying in the car on Saturday. The very lovely MNer Indith put him up for the night, wonderful lady that she is.

largeginandtonic · 02/10/2007 09:41

doh! Now i see....

Lovely MNetter, think we would all be happy to do that sort of thing. Networking is everything

Mrsjaffabiffa · 02/10/2007 13:19

afternoon..........

How lovely for J SOH what kindness.

Sorry to hear about poorly bubba Annemme, glad you missed us and are back on.

Jorja is not impressed with her weaning. I don't know what to do with her now. She's had two days of baby rice and 2 days of apple of which she liked neither. She just shudders, spits it out and then refuses to open her mouth. I don't think she's swallowed more than a tea spoon from all four meals put together. I'm thinking I should probably just leave it for a while and up bottles and see if that helps. I even made sweet pot and carrott puree yesterday in anticipation.

I've just been for a Run!!! I know, but I'm really stuggling to stay off the sweet things so I figured that if I was able to burn off some calories running then I could maybe enjoy a treat with out it having too much effect. Geeeeeee I am hot now though, I'm told it get's easier the more you do it and is even addictive.

OP posts:
HumptyDumptyWasPushed · 02/10/2007 13:32

Jorja doesn't sound ready tbh. Leave it a while definitely until she is more interested. Could you try a different formula? Until they're ready for solids isn't spitting things out just a natural reflex? Also read that it can take 15 times for them to get used to each new flavour. Sounds tedious to me. I'm bfeeding until M is capable of making her own sandwiches.

Running is addictive. I used to run 4 times a week and cycle daily BC (Before Child). I had to run the two miles home from town last week, uphill with the pram as M was starving, everywhere was closed, raining heavily, nowhere to feed and no buses. Little tinker fell asleep in the last 300 yards. I was soaking wet, crawling up the driveway and sobbing about what a state I was and she lay there snoring.

I can't lose weight. I walk every day, run a bit, eat healthily and I'm breastfeeding but I can't lose the last little bit. I think it may be mother nature hanging onto the stores for feeding the Tank, hv assures me it'll go when she weans. We'll see. Don't really care atm tbh. It's cold and it keeps me warm.

Didn't go shopping. Put my shoes on, turned round and M was crashed out on the sofa. An hour and a half later I'd drunk my bodyweight in my own earl grey, made some scones and couldn't be bothered to go into town so we went and fed some ducks instead. Well, I fed the ducks Mathilda told them all off at great volume.

ihateeggs · 02/10/2007 13:36

wow MrsJB I am impressed I managed aerobics this morning but was a bit half-hearted about the whole thing. its a bit embarassing when the grey haired lovelies next to you can keep up the hi-impact and I am struggling with the lo-impact Perhaps you should leave the weaning for a bit? If she is teething then it might be too uncomfortable for her? Where is April? Is she ok?

Anneme, lovely to hear you, sorry about the yeuky croup, not nice.

Good on the Tank for giving mummy a restful-ish night, you are both sounding much happier and horray for Indith for being so kind.

Lups i am glad you found the cheque, will email you in a mo

Poor little J has a streaming cold, sounds all croaky like..

eh hello ladies, but a baby doesn't role over does he?

The shippers have been here this morning to quote on moving all our stuff - blimey 'tis not cheap, once we are there we sure can't come back again

Did someone mention Christmas?

Mrsjaffabiffa · 02/10/2007 13:45

I think the role was for the fatherchristmas bit. See mad, I told you we all are!!!!!

OP posts:
Nairobiorbust · 02/10/2007 13:54

I am so stupid...

twelveyeargap · 02/10/2007 14:07

Christmas? Jaysis.

Nairobiorbust · 02/10/2007 14:13

Spot on there TYG, some believe there is a link between Christmas and Jesus

Bensonbluebird · 02/10/2007 14:42

It's still sunny and hot, summer is here at last!

Glad M has been sleeping SOH - did you sleep too or were you clock watching all night( mis-typed that as cock watching first time round, oops!)?

Ammne - hope you aren't too exhausted with two that haven't been well.

LGT - maybe you should set yourself up as a parenting guru and charge for your services....

HumptyDumptyWasPushed · 02/10/2007 15:48

I have Lucozade in my eye.

Cock watching is a popular pastime here in Norfolk. Some beautiful roosters live next door.

I did sleep actually but woke fairly regularly as it's blardy freezing and dh kept nicking the duvet. It's Christmas weather.

madeindevon2 · 02/10/2007 15:57

how many naps a day do your babies have?

wondering whether he sleeps too much during day which is stopping him sleeping at night?

madeindevon2 · 02/10/2007 16:03

oh and 1st week doing fat club online (ww) i lost 2lb
which i suppose is good as im bf. cant expect to lose anymore than 1 or 2 lb a week without affecting milk supply.
its gonna be a slog. 2lb done.
37 to go......
ohmygod. how did i get so fat?

largeginandtonic · 02/10/2007 16:12

B has 2 usually, 1 after the school run and 1 late afternoon before tea time. Not always the same though. I dont really blame him, it depends on what we have been doing in the day.

I would leave the weaning too MrsJB, just up the milk for a bit. Do you get the hugrier baby milk over there?

Cam i dread to think what packing costs are, when we moved here i ahd only ever moved with me and a hire van before. It was astounding the amount of boxes i had to pack. It nearly killed me and i have no desire to do it again in a hurry. I really feel for you. Perhaps D, B and J can all come and stay for a week while you pack up,. Tis awful doing it with the little demons 'helping'

Running > Madness... >

Summer, where???! Not here, howling wind and rain >

twelveyeargap · 02/10/2007 16:44

Was it one of the supermarkets that put some total tosh on their website about "Easter celebrates the birth of Jesus", then they changed it to the "celebrates the death of Jesus" and then someone finally put them straight and they put something about "resurrection" in there.

MID - Assuming A gets up around 7, then ideally she has a nap around 9 til 10.30 or 11. Then one around 1 until around 2.30 or 3. If she's tired, then I'll try to get her to catnap around 4.30 for 30 to 45 mins. HOWEVER, it rarely happens exactly like that!

If she's wrecked in the evening, I'll bathe her at about 5 instead of 6 and put her to bed early. I'll probably do that tonight, because she fell asleep in the buggy before I could get home to put her to bed. Cue 20 min nap, narky baby etc.

Mum2G · 02/10/2007 16:46

Hi all, just attempted to catch up! Just had the outlaws over for the weekend, honestly it was like preparing for a royal visit!

G and Me both got rotten colds, really not got the energy to go for a walk today, think G will survive for one day though.

DH applying for a new job so may be moving again despite only being here seven months or so, nowhere as exciting as you though Cam!

G has three naps a day, MID, he gets tired after about two hours. Teething has been making him a bit fed up these last few days poor thing!

Hope you had a good hol Pebble.

I am so looking forward to G's first christmas!!! Ooops he's awake, byee

twelveyeargap · 02/10/2007 16:46

Oh and if babies don't get enough sleep during the day, then they find it harder to sleep at night. They get a bit hyper (from all the adrenaline they use to stay awake for longer than they should) and they wake more often.

aprilmeadow · 02/10/2007 18:40

Hello everyone

What's all this talk or exercise....? It's madness!

Ella started nursery yesterday! Only doing mon&fri pm's until January when i WILL be returning to work. Had a 4 hour long meeting with them yesterday and i will be going back as Finance Manager rather than PA (have been their PA for 7 years) and only working 20 per week. So some days will be longer than others but equally some days could just be 2-3hrs. They have given me a payrise (did mention that i havent had one for 2 years) and kept saying how much they wanted me back. I actually went to the meeting to tell them I wasnt going back lol! They have said that i can use the PA as well - bonus

Ds is off nursery today with an ear infection and Ella has a cough and the snotty nose.

Did a bit of xmas shopping today - only because i was in debenhams and saw some of the cool gift sets and knew that if i didnt get them now that i would either forget that i wanted it for so and so or it would be sold out by the time i remembered.

Planning a halloween party for ds for the 1st weekend of Nov and have lovely outfits for them both.

Have had a skim though the thread and saw SOH mention xmas puddings....... went to m&s today and the individual ones are 3for2! So i had to stock up

Will try and catch up properly tomorrow as Dh needs to get on and work tonight due to looking after ds whilst i was out shopping

aprilmeadow · 02/10/2007 18:40

**of not or!

Mrsjaffabiffa · 02/10/2007 19:22

Did you know it bloomin hurts if you plonk your fingers in a cup of tea before you've added milk? I am now typing one handed for a different reason. doh.

Thanks for your advice on weaning. I know you are right, I will leave it for a few weeks and see how she goes. I don't buy French formular it's sooooooooo expensive! You probably can get hungry baby stuff but the normal is 18? per tin. I have a cellar full of cow & gate stocked up. We work out how much we will need between planned uk visits to make sure we don't run out.

Ouchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I am having to breath through the pain.

MID, J usually has 2 good sleeps throughout the day. One straight after her first bottle, for about 2-3 hrs and then she normally has a bottle lunch time and then goes back to bed about 2ish - 4. Bottle, She then goes to bed about 7ish after another bottle, but normaly I wake her about 11pm for a bottle and straight back to bed. That way she goes through the night. She's supposed to have 5 bottles in 24hrs but she goes a long time during the day nomally so I have to stock her up in the evening. She's not really doing this at the moment as going to bed is proving a problem.

TYG, I'm sooo with you on the sleep thing, I definately find that the better they sleep through the day the better they sleep at night. Maddie was very much like this too.

Ouchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

twelveyeargap · 02/10/2007 19:30

I am a bit evangelical about sleep. It may have been noticed? No?

twelveyeargap · 02/10/2007 19:30

Sorry about your hand, btw.
