Nooo he was smiley & fed straight away afterwards. I think it’s Up to5 months they don’t feel a thing , it’s just after they get sore as they are using muscles they have never used before . He didnt like being swaddled more than anything🙈

Thank you, I’m holding out for a actual real life breastfeeding group ! I know what you mean you can feel the difference - Good latch feels like a tug , I know 90% of ours are poor cause they feel like a pinch .
I hope it gets you with improvement your hoping for . Certainly worth it just on the wind/reflux symptoms, his disappeared over night

@SRS1311 im absolutely exhausted. I can't remember being this tired with my first! My DD does not sleep for long so the broken sleep and entertaining a 4 year old is tough. Lots of smiles though and gaining weight rapidly so can't complain too much!

BabyBird20 · 19/08/2020 02:04

@SRS1311 They're only worried if they jump around the centile lines and don't follow the curve I believe , so if he has always been the same then that's his normal. Benji has had issues with having a bigger head throughout pregnancy and they're 99% sure it's just inherited. However he has jumped from 91st to 99th centile in 2 weeks so now we are having another scan and appointment with a neurologist just to double check everything is ok. Fingers crossed!!

UKtoSK · 19/08/2020 03:54

They don’t use the percentiles or track on a growth chart at my paediatrician’s office. At least they don’t tell me. They just weigh her each appointment and sometimes measure her length but didn’t say anything about it. So I have no idea if she’s gaining weight or growing at the right rate. But she is gaining and she has about a thousand wet and dirty nappies a day so I assume that’s enough to say she’s doing well?? I guess they’d say if not.

@Magpiefeather hour+ feeds must be so exhausting! How often does baby feed?

Magpiefeather · 19/08/2020 09:43

@UKtoSK yes it’s quite tiring but up til now (6 weeks) I’ve been thinking he’s just trying to establish my supply. Also sometimes it’s not a solid hour, it might be 20 mins on each boob, a ten min break then back on for another 20 mins. So to be honest I hadn’t realised til recently how unusually long that was.

Of course sometimes it’s for comfort not hunger. On average he feeds: (times vary a bit obviously)
3 or 4 times in the night (between 9pm and 5am) I co sleep though so doze while he feeds
An hour ish at 5am
A bit more at 7am
Then another good hour at 9am
Then sleeps for 3 hours
Another hour ish at 1pm
Again at 4pm

Basically on and off the boob all the way til
6pm
Then feeds to sleep anywhere between 7 & 9pm.

Wow I’ve never written it down before, that is craziness isn’t it. especially having the 3 year old to look after as well!

Fingers crossed the tongue tie is the root of the problem an dwe can fix it

Blizy · 19/08/2020 20:20

Hi all, I'm thinking about changing the formula I give rose to see if it makes a difference with her wind and reflux. We are currently feeding hipp organic. Does anyone recommend any other brands?

SRS1311 · 19/08/2020 20:48

@Magpiefeather I've spoken to two or three people who said that getting their babies tongue tie sorted made a massive difference and made breast feeding a lot easier so hopefully this is the case for you. Mine had a tongue tie apt today but turned out he only has a minor one that they didnt think needed correcting.

@Blizy we are on the hipp formula for wind and reflux. But before that we were on comfort cow and gate and I did see improvements on that so that might be worth a go.

BabyBird20 · 19/08/2020 21:16

Has anyone had to deal with a congested baby yet? Benji seems to be having a lot of trouble breathing out of his nose and is snorting, grunting and gasping for breath sometimes. He has been really off all day too, mostly crying while awake and only sleeping about 15 mins at a time which has been tough!! I have a snot sucker thing but think I need to use a vicks equivalent or something? Has anyone got any suggestions? He snorts so loudly he wakes himself up! 😭😭

Cornishbumpkin · 19/08/2020 21:42

Interesting hearing all you ladies day about tongue ties, Freddie is 7 weeks old and still struggling to get him to latch properly as he won't turn his bottom lip out, wish I could have a proper home visit rather than just video chats with the breast feeding support.

@BabyBird20 we tried snuffle babe saline drops this week as Freddie was really bunged up and it worked really well to clear some big bogeys and that helped a lot

Zoey92 · 19/08/2020 22:44

@Blizy I've had Amelia on cow & gate first infant from day 1 with no issues at all.

UKtoSK · 20/08/2020 00:34

@BabyBird20 Jia gets quite big bogies in her nose every day which we have to get out with the bulb, it can take a while to get them but helps once they’re out. They don’t affect her sleeping but can definitely hear sometimes when she gets too congested.

@Cornishbumpkin Jia never sticks her bottom lip out either but she seems to have a really good latch still. She has quite small lips like I do, so I think that’s why? I hope you can get some help to figure it out.

@Magpiefeather that schedule honestly doesn’t sound so bad compared to my Jia’s wanting to feed every hour most days! Especially the three hour nap! Although the past few days she has been having good 1.5 hour naps several times throughout the day and so feeding every 2 hours instead. I can’t benefit from this though as she’s taking those naps on me! I’m constantly pinned to the sofa!

Leap 2 is really interesting so far - she’s not been fussier, she just is extra clingy. Won’t let me put her down and doesn’t like daddy holding her anymore. Had to give him my T-shirt so he’d smell of me so that he could hold her while I ate my dinner. This morning she was looking at my face like she was seeing it for the first time, really moving her eyes around and taking it all in. She looked mesmerised. It was amazing ❤️

Cornishbumpkin · 20/08/2020 05:10

Ah that's interesting @UKtoSK I think I might be coming a bit obsessed with the 'perfect latch'. He's obviously taking in enough as we've just had to move up to size 3-6 month clothes and he's only 7 weeks Confused Freddie was the same during leap 2 but seems like a happier baby now we are out the other side of it

Not atall a bragging post but we are just up for a feed after having slept for 7 hours! I'm in shock!

Cornishbumpkin · 20/08/2020 05:11

Ps @UKtoSK she is so cute!!

Magpie21 · 20/08/2020 05:46

@blizy I'm using aptamil 1 with a slow teat (Mam bottles). I have just ordered the next fastest teat to see if that helps her wind as it's been worse in the past few days (harder to bring burps up).

I've got a box of aptamil comfort in my back pocket for if things get worse but I'm hoping the new teat will do the trick...

Blizy · 20/08/2020 06:58

@Magpie21 I'm thinking of changing to Aptamil, we have a load of it a friend gave us, I might as well try it before I pass it on to the food bank. I use mam bottles and number 1 teats, I can't go any higher yet as Rose still struggles a bit with the flow at times.

babbafett · 20/08/2020 07:08

Hello I'm wondering if I can join! Long time lurker, its great to hear everyone's experiences. With the way things are at the minute I haven't had as much real life support so it's been great to find out some of you are experiencing similar with your LOs
My DS will be 11weeks old on Saturday. He is happy little chap but a bit of a velcro baby. Apart from the first week where he was probably so exhausted from the birth he hasn't had any meaningful naps out of mine or DHs arms. However he has finally taken to sleeping in his side sleeper at night.
I'm both madly in love with him and also thinking did me and DH loose our minds altogether by having a baby. He is perfect to me, but its also been emotionally and physically draining. Yet I find myself looking forward to when we can start trying for baby no2 and I have to give myself a slap.
He is currently going through beautifully long stretches at night so I'm slowly getting my sanity back. I've no idea why as I've done nothing differently and I was panicking that something was wrong but according to my DM me and my brother were great sleepers so it might just be a genetic thing. I'm not counting my chickens though as I know it can all change overnight and we will be back to the extreme exhaustion of the first 8 weeks

Magpiefeather · 20/08/2020 07:09

@UKtoSK yes it’s not really the frequency of the feeds that worries me, more the length. If he were gaining weight more rapidly then I’d be ok with it, but the fact that he is feeding for so long and is still not getting quite enough makes me sad. Hopefully the tongue tie snip will help a bit.

Magpiefeather · 20/08/2020 07:12

Ps @UKtoSK should have said we are the same, all naps happen on me! The 3 hour one only happens in the sling so every day when he’s starting to get tired I get him in the sling and we either head out or walk round the house to get him to sleep.

Every hour is tough but it sounds like you’re doing a great job!

SRS1311 · 20/08/2020 08:30

Hi @babbafett anyone can join in! You sound similar to me, I dont know anyone who has had babies recently so this has been really useful for me to know what to expect and share advice. When did your little one start doing longer night stretches? Mine still only doing 3 hr blocks and hoping this might get a bit longer soon!!

Think my little one is entering leap 2 according to the wonder weeks app. Hes 6 and a half weeks old but was a week overdue so that puts him at 7 and a half according to the app. It's a bit demoralising when it says I have 2 weeks of a fussy crying baby! What was other peoples experience of the leap?

@Cornishbumpkin how long did it take to come out the other side...should I mentally prepare for 2 weeks!! Lol

Pegase · 20/08/2020 08:39

@Magpie21 let me know how it goes with the next teat as I am considering the same

@Magpiefeather well done for persevering so long- I couldn't manage more than 2 weeks with my tongue tied baby so you're doing great!

Magpie21 · 20/08/2020 09:37

@blizy I think the milk itself is good. She is regular which is part of the reason I haven't changed milk as I'm worried the thicker formula will make her constipated.

@babbafett Welcome! Good news regarding the nighttime sleeps! We are on the same boat regarding day time sleeps - we have recently had some success with a bouncer which can recline.. Though sometimes I'll put her down after 5 mins and she will wake up and stretch as if she has slept for hours! 😅

@Pegase will do🤞

@SRS131 Yeh, I think wonder weeks goes by due date (21 June). My LO is a bit fussier and windy than normal. Nothing too major yet.

babbafett · 20/08/2020 12:02

Thank you for welcoming me in :)
@SRS1311 the night after his vaccinations he slept the whole night through until about 6:30 apart from having to put the dummy back in a couple of times. He did that for 4/5 nights and since then wakes at about 5ish for a bottle but lately doesnt look for a bottle anymore just wants a cuddle and falls back to sleep in my arms until 7:30. Last night I got the bottle ready for 5 but when I picked him up I didn't even try to give it to him as he just cuddled into to me and fell asleep. He is a bruiser though, weighed 13lbs 4oz the day he got his injections. I worry that he is hungry but not waking up, but when he does wake he isn't roaring for the bottle so maybe not. I'm thinking it's a combination of him being on the bigger side and the injections making him sleepy that night which seemed to put him into a new routine. I'm like a new woman now so I won't complain.
@Magpie21 my DS does the same, he is full of beans when waking up if I put him down in his basket. Its total pot luck, I put him down the other day out a desperate need to pee and he stayed there for half an hour! I didn't know what to do with myself,I figured he would wake any moment but if I'd known I would have got stuck into some housework or enjoyed some lunch with two hands!

AndddddHerewegoagain · 20/08/2020 17:46

Welcome @babbafett. Just to reassure you my son was the same. Slept through from 12 weeks and before that was waking for a 2am bottle then going straight back to sleep.

Dd is the complete opposite!! Though she did a massive stretch of 7pm to 430am last night but then tried to get up for the day. It took me til 530 to resettle her then ds was up at 6am 😴😴😴

babbafett · 20/08/2020 18:14

@AndddddHerewegoagain That's good to hear. I'm naturally a bit of a worrier. Im a "start to worry if I dont have something to worry about" type of person so motherhood has turned up the worrying dial.
Having a decent nights sleep has been invaluable. My DH works 24hr+ shifts and don't really have support which has taken a massive toll on my MH. All the things I'd usually do to boost my MH is off the table so I'm really appreciating the extra sleep as I think that would just tip me over the edge otherwise. The days with DS are full on,he is stuck to me and I find that both me and the house are in an awful state but hopefully I'll get the hang of getting myself together soon
