@missgemini @SRS1311 Glad I'm not the only one with a later bed time. For me that makes the nights seem shorter which has seemed less daunting but I'm sure when the nights draw in I will want to try and shift that forward. Il be interested to see what the huckleberry app suggests.

I have to say I'm so happy that I had a summer baby. I really appreciate the long days. I think the daylight can give you a boost when you are running on little sleep.

I'm so relieved that hot spell has past!

Magpie21 · 17/08/2020 13:39

How long does everyone hold their LO's upright for after a feed? I have been doing it for 30-45 mins but I was wondering when could start to reduce that. I guess it varies from baby to baby but I'm curious.

Pegase · 17/08/2020 13:50

Same as you @Magpie21

Gigitree · 17/08/2020 16:43

About 20mins @Magpie21

mrssunshinexxx · 17/08/2020 17:13

Thank you @Mj2196 sorry to hear your circumstances enjoy your hair app x

Blizy · 17/08/2020 17:21

It's interring to read all the bedtime routines.
Rose doesn't have a routine as such. She will feed around 10-11:30pm and will stay down stairs with dh until he goes to bed around midnight. She will then feed anywhere from 2am- 5am. She tends to sleep well in between feeds.
Rose had an appointment at the ENT clinic this morning, she will be having surgery next Thursday to correct her laryngomalacia. My poor wee sausage.

Smiffette · 17/08/2020 20:06

@Magpie21 if it's at night time before putting her down to sleep, I
Hold her for 20 minutes.

If it's just after a feed in the day, I tend to hold her upright whilst burping, then put her in her bouncy chair. I wouldn't lay her on her play gym straight after a feed as she would get reflux/ be sick

StayClosePooky · 17/08/2020 20:22

Can I join! DD is 8 weeks old!

@StayClosePooky

Can I join! DD is 8 weeks old!
Of course Smile how are you finding it at 8 weeks?
UKtoSK · 18/08/2020 01:15

@Magpie21 I try to keep her upright for 20 minutes but since she has started being able to burp this last week she doesn’t seem to spit up as much. At night if I’m too sleepy and worried I’ll nod off and drop her I’ll put her down after only 10. She doesn’t tend to spit up in the night, I think because she’s asleep and not moving as much.

Summers in Korea are so brutal, the “feels like” temp has been high 30s for the past week with high humidity, we’ve not been able to leave the house most days as it’s already too hot by 8am when we get up. Got out early this morning for a walk which was so great. Terrified of what our electricity bill is going to be after all the air con use this month... it doesn’t cool down here until basically October either. The good thing is that she turns 3 months in early October so will be good timing for getting out and about with her more then anyway. Then the winters often get down to below -10 even in the day... I never missed English weather until having a baby!!

How did everyone find leap 2 (at 7-8 weeks)?

Smiffette · 18/08/2020 01:26

@UKtoSK I'm not sure if it's just a coincidence but this leap coincided with LO's previously ok sleep at night, becoming worst. She used to wake twice, 1ish then 4/5 ish..... now after the first few hours she will wake every hour, hour and a half until finally being fully awake around 7ish.

It's the first time since having her I feel really shattered as whilst she might go down for an hour and a half, it takes me longer to get to sleep as I still try and burp her then hold her until she's into deep sleep then put her down. she's now 9 weeks and 3 days, she had her jab yesterday so I was unsure how tonight would go, but I really hope as the week progresses her sleep gets better again.

She is exclusive BF so I think these babies tend to wake more but I also read babies should be able to go 5 hrs in a row at thi point!

mrssunshinexxx · 18/08/2020 04:00

@UKtoSK that weather sounds brutal!
Do you have a paddling pool?
I don't follow the wonder weeks so didn't even know there had potentially been a 2nd leap but makes sense as she had been waking every hour through the night after first stretch seems to be coming out of that now

mrssunshinexxx · 18/08/2020 04:09

@Smiffette my baby girl has been doing that waking every hour after her first stretch which is usually 4 or 5 hours and takes me to 1am but from 1-7am when I get up was brutal touch wood she seems to be going abit longer now she's 7 weeks 5 days
Dreading jabs

BabyBird20 · 18/08/2020 05:22

@mrssunshinexxx and @mrssunshinexxx My LOnstarted doing exactly the same at 7ish weeks, sleeping one block of maybe 3 hours then waking every hour til he was ready for the day at 5 or 6 am!! It was such a killer I felt as tired as those early days! Fingers crossed and touch wood he seems to be coming out the other side now at 9 weeks still waking a few times a night but will go 2-3 hours in between. I'm dreaming of the day he sleeps 5 hours!! 😴😴

UKtoSK · 18/08/2020 06:49

@Smiffette oh no that sounds hard. She usually does 3-5 hours for the first stretch and then 1-2.5 hours the rest of the night already. Also exclusively breastfeeding. Last night though she did 5 hours and 3.5 hours - 9:30 to 6am with only one feed around 2am, I feel so refreshed today!!

@mrssunshinexxx no unfortunately we live in an apartment so no outside space :(

Mj2196 · 18/08/2020 06:54

Most nights the last few weeks have been Every 2hr get ups but last night babe fell asleep on me after a feed at 8pm and didn’t wake when I put him in rocker.(managed to watch some tv with dp !)then transferred him to his szpod at 10pm and he still didn’t wake while 1am! Back asleep by 2 -till 5&just dropped off again now .had enough sleep that I’ve got up with both kiddies at 6am and dp is having a rare lie in on his day off instead of me lol😳😅

SRS1311 · 18/08/2020 16:59

It's nice to see some of your nights are getting easier, the days seem so much more do-able if you've had a good night.

Mine had his health visitor check today and they plotted his measurements - they all seemed a bit over the place and left me feeling worried. Head was 90th centile, weight 75th and length 25th Hmm

Anyone else experience anything similar?

mrssunshinexxx · 18/08/2020 18:58

@SRS1311 did she seem concerned?
I'm not having the health visitor come so no help really sorry

BabyBird20 · 18/08/2020 19:20

@SRS1311 My LO is 50th for height and weight and 99th for head. Luckily he doesn't look out of proportion though I notice his head is bigger now.

SRS1311 · 18/08/2020 19:26

@mrssunshinexxx no she didnt seem concerned but when I queried it she gave a vague answer and I got the sense it was unusual to have such varying centiles but could just be me being paranoid!

@BabyBird20 I take it there was no concern regarding your LO and the larger than average head?! I've noticed mine has a big head also, although his Dad does also so maybe just taking after him!!

Theres always something to worry about with our little ones! Lol

Magpiefeather · 18/08/2020 19:39

@SRS1311 i had health visitor yesterday too, and it transpires my little one is falling down through centiles so not gaining as would be expected (although she did stress that he looks healthy and if it weren’t for the numbers on the chart she would have no concerns whatsoever). But because of that next week they’re coming back and then will do head and length as well. He’s never had his length measured and onlynhd his head done at birth - not sure why?!

It does say in the red book though that healthy babies aren’t always on the same centile for each thing though.

We are still EBF and really wanted to continue as I am really enjoying it and want the ease later down the line , but we have now discovered baby probably has a posterior tongue tie and I think a lip tie as well. Sad that I didn’t pick up on it sooner (although nor did anyone else) but now we have a referral to tongue tie clinic. Could only get in two weeks from now though so a bit of a wait. Am hoping if he is tied and he has it snipped it will solve some of our issues . He takes an hour + per feed, takes in loads of air so has lots of trapped wind and silent reflux type symptoms which means he won’t be laid flat. Which I’ve read is often the case with lip tied children as they can’t get a proper seal when feeding. Also breastfeeding is sometimes uncomfortable still and he sometimes mid shapes my nipple. Also obviously I hope we can help him get more efficient at getting milk so he can gain weight at whatever rate is right for him (although he may just be destined to be tall and thin like his dad!)

If your baby’s weight gain is good and they seem happy,
Meeting their milestones and doing plenty of wet and dirty nappies I wouldn’t worry.

Dd was a bouncing baby type (combi then formula fed though) so I stopped getting her weighed as she was clearly absolutely fine.

Wow I’ve rambled.

Anyone here have any experience with posterior tongue tie or lip tie? DS will be 8 weeks at his snipping appointment.

Magpiefeather · 18/08/2020 19:41

Ps should have said he IS gaining weight but just not as fast as the curve he should be following. He’s dropped two and a bit centiles

Mj2196 · 18/08/2020 20:08

@Magpiefeather
My little boy had his tongue tie done at 8 weeks, Although it was anterior. It took seconds he didn’t cry.Feeding was hit and miss for 2 days he was reluctant to feed . He now has quick 10-20 mins feeds&doesn’t take anywhere near as much air in , and has stopped clicking during feeds. However It’s not the magic fix I thought it would be pain wise. my nipples are still cracked and bruised but that is down to latch.

Magpie21 · 18/08/2020 20:19

Thank you all for the responses re holding the baby upright. Helpful to know!

Magpiefeather · 18/08/2020 20:21

Thank you @Mj2196 that is really good to know your experience. I’m sorry that you are still in pain though, that really sucks but I hope it will get better soon.

So good to hear your little boy didn’t cry, dh is worrying we will be putting him through something horrible so hopefully that will reassure him that it really doesn’t bother them.

It’s weird because sometimes my DS can do a good latch - I can feel the difference and he seems more satisfied too! But it is the exception rather than the rule.
