I can't use infacol it makes the reflux worse.

Pegase · 06/08/2020 11:11

We use TT anti colic but don't find them amazing. Plus Infacol which doesn't seem to cause her problems with her reflux fortunately.

For burping I get most success with the position where she is on your lap draped over your hand or forearm rather than on the shoulder

Busylizzie85 · 06/08/2020 11:41

@Blizy I'm the same as @Pegase I use TT anti colic on the rare occasion I can express and use a bottle that is and she burps well when burping sitting on my lap hand holding head under the chin, it takes a while sometimes but she's getting better.

Blizy · 06/08/2020 12:00

I've tried every bloody position, I've resorted to stomping up and down the stairs which helps eventually!

BlueberryBasket · 06/08/2020 12:37

@Magpie21 We went up a teat size on bottles and found that sped things up enormously, especially in the night. Used to be over an hour, now on about 20 minutes.

BelBabe · 06/08/2020 14:24

I'm so glad to have found this thread! I have been so worried my wee 7 weeker isn't acting like a 'normal' baby but from the sounds of things here it's all perfectly normal.
So I gave birth to Miss Clara 7 weeks ago and have found the past week so hard! Like others Clara has completely fought naps and the crying has definitely increased. It feels like she wakes, has a change, feed and cry. The only way she settles in the sling so of course I worry she's not getting enough tummy or play time.
Just get through the fourth trimester is my new motto Grin. I'm just glad to find others who are experiencing similar!

Blizy · 06/08/2020 14:27

@BlueberryBasket she's just moved from a 0 to a size 1 test and she still drowns herself in milk! She always falls asleep during a feed, takes an age to burp and Always does a poo mid way through. It's bloody relentless!
Last feed I tried a DR brown bottle, disaster. She had trouble latching to the teat, she was soaked with milk and only drank 2oz.

Magpie21 · 06/08/2020 16:14

@Blizy I feel for you. My windy baby girl (5 weeks old) will give us a couple of burps initially and then we can never seem to get the rest out. Some days are better than others. Using Mam bottles / infacol / Aptimal 1 / Perfect Prep machine.

I give her burp breaks during the bottle.

For the night time she has smaller feeds because she falls asleep on the bottle and that seems to help her sleep a bit better.

I've got a tub of Aptimal Comfort in the cupboard, which I am tempted to use if things get worse but I think Aptimal advise you to seek medical advice prior to switching. Currently not all of her feeds are terrible so I'm not there just yet.

Have you already tried any different milks?

BabyBird20 · 06/08/2020 16:45

Does anyone know how long you're supposed to leave the plasters over the vaccine spot on their legs? Poor baby is grumpy enough and the plasters are digging in his legs and making them all red! We seem to be in a cycle of crying, eating then sleeping for 10 mins since the jabs bless him!! He just smells of strawberry too from the calpol!!

Blizy · 06/08/2020 17:00

@BabyBird20 poor wee man, I hope he doesn't suffer with the side effects. I'd take the plasters off in the bath tonight.
Rose has her injections on Monday.

SRS1311 · 06/08/2020 18:20

@Blizy @Magpie21 we had the same with our little one who is FF with the difficulty getting wind up / silent reflux. We use avent anti colic bottles. We switched to cow and gate comfort formula from Aptamil and felt he was more settled but still struggling with wind. Would be so frustrating spending ages trying to get it up, then eventually putting him down and he wouldnt settle due to being uncomfortable because of the wind!

Last week we switched to an organic formula - Hipp. It's been really good, it's a lighter thinner milk then Aptamil which seems kinder on his stomach. He gets wind up easily now. I would recommend it! It's no more expensive than the other brands and sold in all the supermarkets.

Pegase · 06/08/2020 18:49

We're on Hipp too. Happy with it and she is thriving but we do still get unsettled time in the crib for not being able to get all the wind up (or down?!)

SRS1311 · 06/08/2020 19:16

@Pegase Yeah unfortunately we still get some of the same, can be hard to settle and doesnt like lying flat. Not sure if it's the reflux or wind or both...or just fussiness! Confused

Blizy · 06/08/2020 20:36

@SRS1311 I give her hipp organic and expressed breast milk from my freezer stash. She has omeprazole and gaviscon which has helped with the reflux symptoms l, it's just the wind issue we need to tackle!

BabyBird20 · 07/08/2020 00:43

Thanks @Blizy we have one unhappy hot little man. He slept 2 hours and just woke up literally screaming 😢 So unhappy even magic boob isn't helping and he's barely eating which worries me.

Does anyone know if I'm allowed to give a third dose of calpol? It says speak to a doc if two doses don't work on the box but I wondered if this is different as I know why he's hot and in pain?

PurpleLaws · 07/08/2020 02:55

@BabyBird20 yes you can give a 3rd dose of calpol. Our baby girl had her jabs on Tuesday and I checked with the nurse. She said I can give upto 3 more doses with the 4-6 hr gap if temperature persists and if temperature is there after this, then its likely there is another reason for the temperature and it'll be best to go to the doctors.

Just remember if your LO temp goes to 38 degree then ring your docs or 111 if they're not open.

Hope that helps.

Pegase · 07/08/2020 04:24

Ugh just had first 'major' reflux disaster. Projectile vomit soaking through both of our clothes plus sundry nursery items within reach. Ideal at 4am!

Cornishbumpkin · 07/08/2020 06:22

Oh no @Pegase that's the last thing you want at 4am! We had our first projectile vomit yesterday over our bed!

Mj2196 · 07/08/2020 07:21

@BabyBird20 Very normal some babies go off feed some feed more . My doc said 1 dose straight away& 2 more 4 hours apart . Baby had a 4th the day after checking with gp cause he was still not right . Was fine after that though . Hope lo is ok !

I have to say ever since his jabs j has took to waking every 2 hours on the dot 10pm,12.2,4&6am🤯 i miss 3/4 hour sleeeps

mrssunshinexxx · 07/08/2020 09:31

I had first shit all over bed yesterday and carpet and through to duvet

The amount of washing is definitely what's surprised me the most about having a baby !

Magpie21 · 07/08/2020 11:46

@mrssunshinexxx Hope you have some Napisan on hand! 😉 I also didn't realise how frequent these poonami's would occur!

LillianFullStop · 07/08/2020 16:57

Oh no @Pegase!!! The worst is the smell right? Worse than wees and poos! I find a cap of white vinegar in the rinse/soak helps neutralise the smell.

No poonamis yet here for us but a number of times came very close so we have the next size up nappies ready to move up to when it starts to happen. Not fun!!

Have decided to stop expressing milk as I'm getting measly amounts. I'm a bit sad about it but at least DS is gaining weight well on formula.

Anyone with also a toddler how have you managed bedtimes? We divide and conquer at the moment but we would like to have a girls/boy's night out at some point - a date night will have to wait til DS is a bit older

mrssunshinexxx · 08/08/2020 01:43

@LillianFullStop I wish it was a nappy issue but she still has loads of room in size 1s.. just occasional huge poos 🤣

Gigitree · 08/08/2020 06:37

Anyone else’s baby extra snoozy in this hot weather? Grace slept for 6 hours straight last night. While obviously I’m happy we all got some extra zzz’s but this isn’t normal for her and I’m wondering if the hot weather is making her tired?
She also fed less yesterday which I thought was odd because I expected her to want more because it’s hot.
Not sure if I should be worried or not?
We have an air con unit in our bedroom so it wasn’t too warm overnight, we kept it at about 22/23 because we didn’t want her to get too cold.

Why do these things always happen at the weekends when I can’t check in with my health visitor/GP

She’s 7 weeks today!

UKtoSK · 08/08/2020 06:57

Had our first jabs today. Not sure what the U.K. schedule is like but in korea they do hep b and BCG round 2 (round 1 was done in the hospital after birth) at one month. Was horrible hearing her scream for the jab but she stopped right away and fed right after and then slept. She’s been sleeping a lot since we got home which is lovely as she normally refuses sleep in the day! She’s gained a kilo since we brought her home and a couple of cms too. She’s wearing up to 3 months clothes for the first time today, she’s been in newborn/up to 1 month until now.

Sorry to read there have been projectile vomit and poo explosions, especially in the middle of the night! We have also had a couple of projectile spit up/sick episodes, usually all over her and me, and you’re right the smell is the worst 🤢 we’ve not had any nappy leaks but twice when my husband was changing her nappy she has projectile pooped all over him 😂
