Hi everyone, sorry I've been off the radar for a few weeks. I've had mild postpartum anxiety and I just couldn't face coming on to the pp thread.

Wee one is almost 9 weeks now and doing well. After his speedy arrival we ended up back in hospital for a few days as his cord was infected (turned out to be group B strep). That was what triggered the anxiety as I was so worried about him.

It's been lovely to come on this morning and read about all your gorgeous wee ones. We're having similar experiences re sleeping so nice to read some good tips. A friend gave me her toddle pod which we hoped would be the miracle cure but sadly not! 🤣 I think a night at Grannie's is in order!

Just wondering, is anyone still bleeding? I have been stop start and had what I'm fairly sure was my period a few weeks ago but keep having reddy brown spotting. I did get the Sayana Press injection so wondering if it's that?

Cornishbumpkin · 05/08/2020 12:20

Happy birthday @UKtoSK hope you get your cake!!

Welcome back @SerBrienneOfHouseTarth so sorry to hear about little one being poorly and you suffering with anxiety. I'm currently undergoing online CBT for perinatal anxiety - it's so debilitating. Have you got any sort of support for it?

@Busylizzie85 we feed between 1-2 hrly during the day and 2-3 hrly at night with one longer sleep of 4 hrs. Certainly envious of the bottle feeding life having longer gaps in between. Went out to the shops yesterday and had to feed in the car between each shop was only out for about 3 hrs but he screamed as if he was starving hungry

Blizy · 05/08/2020 12:56

@Cornishbumpkin I think I Rose didn't get the memo that formula fed babies should feed less! She's feeding like we are still breast feeding and she stopped that at 11 days old! The past few days she's been feeding every 2 hours, day and night...

Cornishbumpkin · 05/08/2020 14:12

@Blizy oh no, that must be hard work making all those bottles!! What a little pickle

Freddie seems a bit off today, projectile vomited this morning and has had two very loose poos. Think it may be a side effect of the nystatin

Gigitree · 05/08/2020 14:28

@Blizy sane here with Grace, she feeds every 2.5-3hrs through the day & night!
I think it’s a myth that formula fed babies sleep better and can go longer between feeds. I just think all babies are different and some are ‘easier’ thank others!

mrssunshinexxx · 05/08/2020 14:33

@Mj2196 do you do nose to nipple and break him off if latch is too shallow ?
I 'think' it's feeling better don't want to speak too soon antibiotics will finish next Tuesday 🤞🤞🤞🤞

Pegase · 05/08/2020 16:14

@Blizy yes agreed - formula fed fed no magic bullet. We have a good stretch at the start of the night but the rest of the time she could want her next feed anywhere between
1.5- 4 hours later. Today she was screaming like she was starved a mere 1.5 hours after her last bottle!

We also have some serious nap dodging starting - today she was cooing at a plain white ceiling instead of sleeping at nap time Hmm

Mj2196 · 05/08/2020 16:39

@mrssunshinexxx nose to nipple , I try to tickle his top lip & bottom lip to get him to open wider . I break the latch with my little finger repeatedly till he ends up crying in frustration and just clamps on nipple . I’ve got virtual with lactation consultant to observe and talk me through some tongue exercises to get him to start using the muscles, but it’s so much harder than having someone there physically! . Going to try out some different positions later see if it helps
I’m glad to hear your feeling better. It’s certainly a long recovery isn’t it , hope it’s the end of it for you .

Busylizzie85 · 05/08/2020 17:24

@Pegase I know your pain with naps mine is currently starring up the ceiling smiling to herself and cooing loudly basically doing anything she can not to nap 🙈🤷🏻‍♀️

AndddddHerewegoagain · 05/08/2020 17:59

Dh is still with his nan and I've had a velcro baby all day. Thank goodness ds was at nursery don't think i would have coped with 2 today!!

Also had a nap dodger today. She slept so well yesterday wasn't ever going to have 2 days of it lol

LillianFullStop · 05/08/2020 18:59

Hello all sorry I have been MIA! Just checking in and glad to see everyone is doing well. DS is doing well and is a little over 9 weeks now. How time flies!!

He is bottle fed so I'm not hands free during feeds so I don't have as much time checking things online as I did with my breastfed DD!

Is anyone's bub falling into a routine yet? Mine is still just feeding on demand sleeping sometime in between feeds. Lots of nap dodging here too! Switches between preferring to nap in the living room with all the light and noise of the house ... to needing quiet and a darkened room. It's all a bit trial and error as he's quite a different baby to my first!

I've been signed off by the GP at my post natal checks but I still have some weird nerve issue on my left leg/foot. GP thinks it's sciatica that should self resolve in another 2-3 weeks. Other than that feeling almost back to normal bar the sleeplessness and the extra 10kg post baby weight that I have no idea how to shift!!!

mrssunshinexxx · 05/08/2020 19:37

@Mj2196 thank you me too oh that's rubbish everything is virtual
I was feeling sorry for myself earlier that my /our maternity leaves are all abit ruined no baby classes no where else to go as I don't feel safe going anywhere with her
Really hope being stuck at home with me doesn't affect her development

AndddddHerewegoagain · 05/08/2020 19:39

I've been thinking about you @LillianFullStop glad you are all well. Second time round is so different isn't it!! No snoozy afternoons on the sofa this time.

Everytime i think we are falling into a routine dd changes an aspect just to keep my on my toes! Bedtimes are still a night mare 50% of the time but thats down from 100% so small victories!!

We booked a holiday for September back in January before the world went mad my goal was to be back in pre pregnancy clothes by then. Yeah that's not gonna happen Grin

Magpie21 · 05/08/2020 19:52

Also (exclusively) bottle feeding 2-3 hours round the clock, sometimes even every 1.5 hours in the evening period.

How long is everyone's turnaround on a bottle during the night? I'm finding it takes on average one hour 15 mins, including 30 mins of upright time as I have a windy girl! Sometimes il be getting her down and starting the feeding routine again 1 hour later, so really hoping to get down to a shorter turnaround! Maybe it will come with time...along with longer sleep periods hopefully!

Gigitree · 05/08/2020 20:37

I’m with you there @mrssunshinexxx it just feels really unfair doesn’t it?

Anyone else’s baby suddenly get way more clingy at 6 weeks?

In the previous couple of weeks Grace would stay asleep when we would put her down in her Carry cot for daytime naps so long as we made sure she had a full tummy and was sound asleep first, but the past few days as soon as I put her down she wakes up 😫
Typically at night this doesn’t happen thankfully she will normally stay asleep for at least 2.5 hours, so I’m really hoping they doesn’t change.
So I’m pinned to the sofa with her these days just so I can make sure she gets enough sleep and doesn’t get overtired.
I don’t mind too much, I know she won’t be this little forever, but I’m just dreading the heatwave in the next few days if she is going to be stuck to me all day 😫😫

Pegase · 05/08/2020 20:56

We had a routine last week. This week it's all change! Next week is vaccinations so that'll be all change too!

I still have 10kg to lose - although lost loads already. Last time I did 5;2 but not so soon after birth and obvs wouldn't work if bf. Also too sore from C section to exercise yet and need chocolate to make it through the day. Oh dear!

LillianFullStop · 05/08/2020 21:26

Yes @Andddddherewegoagain it's like trying to do things with your hands tied and feeling like I'm juggling all the time!

Bedtime evenings are hairy between 7 and 10 where it feels like I'm trying to settle him for bed for 3 hours - by the time he goes down I'm all out of gas!!

@Magpie21 how many weeks is your baby? I normally don't go past 30m - if he falls asleep or stops after 30 minutes I call it done. When he was younger I'd burp or nappy change halfway it normally woke him enough to feel hungry again.

@Gigitree 6 weeks is meant to be peak fussiness! Look up "Wonder Weeks" I found it pretty close to the mark with my first.

@Pegase I am post c sec too snd all I've managed is short walks. @Andddddherewegoagain I tried on a pre pregnancy skirt and couldn't get it past my thighs! Blush

Yes @LillianFullStop im with you there!! I tried to put a pair of trousers on the other day and got them to my knees 😂😂

Zoey92 · 05/08/2020 22:05

Hi everyone! God i feel like its been forever!
Amelia is 6weeks today i cant get my head around it! Shes coming on so well.

Been signed off by midwife for a good couple weeks now, 1st period came about 4wks after little one, my god the cramps were awfull!
Amelias 6wks Health visitor check was done over the phone, anyone else have it over the phone?

Her feeding can be anywhere between 2½ to 4hrs during the day with naps inbetween & 3/5hrs during the night & awake for about 30mins after feeding.
Shes been a bit grouchy last 2days fighting her sleep during the day.
Last night she slept from 11pm till 5am i could not believe it!! I woke up feeling so bad but she woke for her feed then went back over till 8:30 i felt brand new this morning 😂 i doubt this will happen tonight.

I hope everyone and their little ones are keeping ok x

UKtoSK · 06/08/2020 00:21

@Zoey92 wow that’s an amazing long sleep! Can’t wait for that!

@SerBrienneOfHouseTarth how many weeks postpartum are you? I’m almost 5 weeks and by around 3.5 weeks I had all but stopped bleeding but then at 4 weeks I started again and then it suddenly got really heavy. Was completely soaking a pad in one to two hours. Went to the doctor and they checked everything and it’s all fine, they showed me on the ultrasound how much is left waiting to come out. I heard bleeding up to 6-8 weeks is normal, as is stopping and starting.

It’s good to hear that so many other babies feed so often and refuse sleep - not good because it’s hard for you all but just proves that the “normal” isn’t normal and our babies aren’t “bad” for not following some unrealistic routine. Great for those whose babies do eat every 3 hours and sleep on schedule though!

UKtoSK · 06/08/2020 00:22

Oh and thank you for the birthday wishes! Didn’t get my cake but maybe another day!

SerBrienneOfHouseTarth · 06/08/2020 01:03

I also have a nap dodging velcro baby this week! I swaddled him in a muslin tonight instead of the Groswaddle which is stretchy so he can still wriggle in it and startle himself, and gave him an extra blanket.... sacrificed a goat and prayed to the flying spaghetti monster.....and so far it seems to have done the trick! 🤞🏻

We're FF and he goes 3-4 hrs between feeds, waking once between 11ish and 7ish for a feed. Don't be jealous though, he can be the noisiest little sleeper so some nights we get no rest 🤣

Thanks @Cornishbumpkin I have a coach who helps me with the anxiety using a process called Presence in Action, it's kind of like CBT but a wee bit different! It's great and has really helped.

@UKtoSK That's good to know! I'm 9 weeks pp. HV reckons it's breakthrough bleeding from the contraceptive injection I got when I was in hospital. Hopefully will settle soon!

mrssunshinexxx · 06/08/2020 04:58

@Gigitree yeah it's shit to be honest especially for people who might only have one baby and doubly crap just wish I had my mum I would take that over all the baby groups in the world
Yeah Penelope clingy too but she's bound to be as no one else holding her and my husband works away Monday to Thursday so she just has me i sometime stay stuck on sofa and just soak it all in but if I have stuff to do I put her in sling it's crazy the noise she will sleep through in sling but if I dare put her in her chair or on cushion on sofa and even sneeze she wakes up! I just remind myself of the 4th trimester a lot x

Blizy · 06/08/2020 08:37

Can I ask bottle feeders, what bottles do you use? I use Mam but thinking of changing to Dr Brown. Rose is terrible with wind, I struggle to burp her, I can spend an hour patting/rubbing her back and nothing will come out. She will writhe around grunting, frowning and pulling faces,
It's obviously trapped wind.

AndddddHerewegoagain · 06/08/2020 09:29

We use mam bottles, have to use infacol to get the burps up though
