I do sterilise it @Pegase but i have 2 so i can leave 1 drying as all the powder sticks in the corners otherwise.

Ive heard lots of good and bad things about perfect preps. I think the most important thing is to keep them clean

Cornishbumpkin · 04/08/2020 13:36

Thanks for the help ladies, still not sure if it is thrush, dr says they don't swab for it but is going to trial treatment - makes it a bit infuriating that could only have a telephone consult so dr can't actually examine me or Freddie. Fingers crossed it works. I don't know how you ladies do it with another little one. Little man can have a proper 'witching hour' last from sometimes 6-11 which takes both me and hubby to get him settled for bed!

Pegase · 04/08/2020 13:46

@mrssunshinexxx We have a Bee which is pretty small and light for a newborn pram so have been pushing it round local area for a few weeks. Built up to about an hour on pavements. Walked for more like two hours at weekend but DH pushed the buggy.

Folded and put it into car for first time today and didn't have pain but felt significantly heavier than anything I have lifted so far so don't plan on doing that unless I have to- easier to use the sling.

Smiffette · 04/08/2020 14:51

@Cornishbumpkin I feel you with the witching hour, little miss can be like it from 5/6 until bedtime although I have recently found that the bath soothes her and she stops crying. She usually stays calm long enough after the bath for me to feed her and get her off to sleep.

I really am praying that it's right what I've read and it stops by 12 weeks! It kind of ruins any lovely days that we've had and now that night time sleep is better as she is finally going down in her crib, it's the part of the day I really dread as I feel helpless to soothe her

Busylizzie85 · 04/08/2020 15:47

@Smiffette @Cornishbumpkin we are the same with the witching hour usually around 7pm with LO's bedtime at 9pm (I haven't yet worked out how to get it earlier!) she is sometimes inconsolable for ages before eventually stopping.
Can I ask if any one breastfeeding is having to feed every 2-3 hours? Very occasionally mostly at night she will go 4 or more hours but during the day starting from 2am she is awake and wanting feeding around every 2.5 hours is the average, I have tried distracting her but she starts getting really fussy and crying until she has food! It means we have no routine during the day as I can't guarantee how long she'll be before the next feed! She's 7 weeks now and I expected her feeds to have longer intervals. It may just be normal for her and she'll grow out of it but I'm worried I'm doing something wrong as she is my first, all of my mummy friends bottle fed so asking them is not helping. ☹️

Smiffette · 04/08/2020 16:16

@Busylizzie85 I was just talking to my NCT mums about this recently. My LO feeds anything from hourly to 3 hourly if she's asleep... I'm feeding on demand and ok with that for now but from 3 months onwards I was going to ask my health visitor if I should be extending time between feeds and if so how I would go about doing this without upsetting her too much and also whether this would just happen naturally anyway

Busylizzie85 · 04/08/2020 16:27

@Smiffette that's good to know thank you I'm glad I'm not the only one 😊

BabyBird20 · 04/08/2020 18:13

@Busylizzie85 I am the same, in fact during the day he does more time feeding than sleeping!! 😬😬 Yesterday I managed to get out and about and fed him every couple of hours but he was so grumpy by the evening. Today I've not made it off the sofa and he's been feeding every hour with very little sleep in between. He's my first so luckily can go with the flow for now but it's so hard to get out of the house!

Busylizzie85 · 04/08/2020 19:37

@BabyBird20 it's so hard i just feel like a milk machine at the moment, I'd like to express more but I have no time in between feeds and play time to really do it!

BabyBird20 · 04/08/2020 20:05

Snap @Busylizzie85 I so want to express but have no idea when I'd manage it! I feel like he's sucks me dry all day!! 😬😬 We seem to be in the beginnings of the 8 week leap 2 according to the wonder weeks app, lots of crying and crankiness today and I just want to cry myself! It's such N emotional rollercoaster!!

Blizy · 04/08/2020 20:14

@BabyBird20 it works! Yay!!

I had Rose at the GP yesterday, she's following in her brothers footsteps with the reflux and laryngomalacia. She was sent to A&E because of her breathing, the laryngomalacia makes her squeak and catch her breath a lot. She's been prescribed omeprazole and fast tracked as an urgent reference to the ENT clinic.

AndddddHerewegoagain · 04/08/2020 20:19

@BabyBird20 i cried during dds 8th week as i sat upstairs with her whilst she screamed in my face for hours refusing to feed or sleep. Its definitely got easier since then. We're falling into a bit of a routine now.

Also re bedtimes. Tonight i bathed ds (3) ridiculously early after dinner and then got him in pjs. He then watched a dvd whilst i bathed, bottled and put dd to bed. She still took an hour but it meant all i had to do with ds was book, teeth and bed which made bedtime go alot quicker and smoother. Everyone asleep by 730. (Wish i was!!)

BabyBird20 · 04/08/2020 21:24

@Blizy yay I'm so pleased for you!! Are you using it overnight too? A hi slept in his for 3 hours last night! The longest he's ever laid down for. I doubt it'll happen tonight as he's just been sooo upset this evening!
Oh my goodness that sounds scary with the breathing!! I think benji's reflux is affecting his as he often squeaks and seems to catch his breath, have a face to face appt with the doc on Thursday so will push for some decent medication for him!! What are the symptoms of laryngomalacia?

@AndddddHerewegoagain thank you for the solidarity, I'm so hoping it's the 8 week related and will be a bit of a turning point! It gives you strength to put up with the screaming if you know there's a reason and that it will end!! Broken my heart today I was sobbing with him earlier when he was inconsolable while trying to feed 😢😢

Pegase · 04/08/2020 21:38

Week 8 is a wonder week. 7.5-9.5 weeks = storm cloud sadly. We have been plagued with 15-30 minute naplettes all day today. Cue one overtired baby who won't go to bed.

AndddddHerewegoagain · 04/08/2020 21:42

@BabyBird20 sending you all the sleepy dust!! Im convinced at 8 weeks they have a brain surge and cant switch off. Dd is doing so much more this week than she was 2 weeks ago, she even half rolled this morning!!

Dh has just come home from work. His nan has broken her arm so he's got to drive up to take her home from the hospital. He was going to do the night feeds tonight. I know its selfish but im gutted. Im so tired i was looking forward to having a few hours broken sleep (obviously she comes first but hoping you all get how im feeling!)

Blizy · 04/08/2020 22:12

@BabyBird20 it differs for each child. Rose struggles feeding, gets very out breath, chokes and splutters her way through a feed. She has a stride, squeaks/wheeze's and has a tracheal tug when breathing. This tends to only happen after she's been crying (which is a lot) or struggled with a feed. Reflux is also a symptom. It's also known as floppy larynx.

BabyBird20 · 04/08/2020 23:44

Thanks @Pegase and @AndddddHerewegoagain I was thinking it might be something like that. Have downloaded the wonder weeks app to have a read and now using huckleberry to try to get a picture of his sleeping patterns as there doesn't seem to be much sense or consistency yet!!

And @AndddddHerewegoagain I totally understand, the promise of some sleep being taken away would probably break me at the moment!! I only get any quality sleep at all when my husband takes him downstairs so I don't wake at every grunt that he makes!! I hope you manage to get some good sleep tonight!

@Blizy bless her I really hope she's sorted soon, that sounds so scary!

mrssunshinexxx · 05/08/2020 04:06

@Busylizzie85 my baby has reverted back to every 2 hours last few days my midwife said BF babies just don't sleep as well/ long as FF

mrssunshinexxx · 05/08/2020 04:10

@AndddddHerewegoagain that is really hard I definitely understand. Can he do it tomorrow night instead x

UKtoSK · 05/08/2020 06:22

@Busylizzie85 we feed hourly to 1.5 hours during the day and 2.5-4 hourly during the night. It’s completely normal. I was worrying something was wrong too since I’d heard 2-3 hours was normal but I think the only way to get a schedule like that is if you formula feed. I’ve read a lot about it and have seen it said that trying to delay a feed can negatively affect your supply so best to just feed as baby needs while you’re able to. Breastfeeding babies have multiple reasons to need to feed, not just hunger - thirst, comfort, pain relief, sleepiness, just to be close to you, etc etc. I found this particularly reassuring: themilkmeg.com/4-myths-that-can-derail-your-breastfeeding-journey/

Baby girl is one month old today and it’s also my 31st birthday. I had hopes for a nice day but didn’t sleep well, spent the morning at the hospital as I was having a lot of bleeding suddenly (everything is fine) and then my husband got called in to work despite him being on school holidays because someone messed up and they’re blaming him... and we have no chocolate in the house. Hoping my husband will buy me a cake on the way home at least but we’re also in the middle of the worst monsoon season we’ve had here in years and so he might not be able to make it to the bakery.

Mj2196 · 05/08/2020 08:56

8 week injections yesterday , probably the worst night I’ve ever had with him. so tired . Dd is still grumpy and full of a cold so everyone is bundled on the sofa to watch Disney+. Nipples are bleeding from all night feeding & poor latch still ..
Roll on 7.30pm for dps arrival home from work !🤣

Busylizzie85 · 05/08/2020 09:33

Happy birthday @UKtoSK I hope you do manage to have a good day after all of that and get cake!! 🎂

BabyBird20 · 05/08/2020 10:00

@UKtoSK happy birthday!! I hope your day gets better! Or pretend tomorrow is your birthday too and celebrate properly then! 🥰

@Mj2196 poor baby and poor you! Hope you have a better night tonight. I have benjis 8 weeks jabs tomorrow, I can't believe 8 weeks has passed already!!

mrssunshinexxx · 05/08/2020 10:03

@Mj2196 god that's rough ! Get some hot flannels on your boobs asap hoping your day gets better x

Mj2196 · 05/08/2020 11:06

Happy birthday @UKtoSK hope you get cake !

@BabyBird20 8 weeks is unbelievable isn’t it :( j didn’t even cry during -but has barely been put down since .hope benjy doesn’t suffer x

@mrssunshinexxx that sounds like a good idea . I just can’t seem to get him to open his mouth wide enough but We have had 8 weeks of “just putting up as long as he’s feeding “. I suppose it will take a while to re learn . Day is slightly better as Dp has text to say not to worry about cooking as he is bringing takeaway home. How are you getting on healing wise?
