@Pegase nope , my gp just said it would take longer than the rest of it and it would granulate ?

@mrssunshinexxx
in sorry to hear about your mum , its not something you can rush sadly however my dp works 7am-7pm and Im 5weeks post section now (wound still open) but get out and about fine walking around the village (just not driving again yet )I just make sure he leaves the pram Set up right next to the door .

mrssunshinexxx · 12/07/2020 17:40

@Mj2196 thank you
That's good to know are the Midwife's happy with your wound.
I prefer the sling I live somewhere really hilly so can't imagine pushing the pram yet 😫 x

UKtoSK · 12/07/2020 22:09

Thank you for all the lovely congratulations. It’s so nice to be able to join in with you all again!

Jia is a week old now and she seems to be cluster feeding the last few days. I hear that’s normal during the first few weeks but I was wondering if any of you had the same kind of pattern. During the day she’ll feed for about 10 minutes, which seems to be enough (I have a fast flow and feel empty after she’s done) but she’ll be back for more barely an hour later. I can’t get her to feed from both sides at once for a longer feed as she falls fast asleep and will not be woken. It’s currently 6am, she fed from 5-5:05, burp and nappy change (immediately followed by a poo of course), then again at 5:30-5:35, burp and nappy change, and I was about to put her down but she wanted another feed so did another 8 minutes now at 6am. She spits up a lot so with my fast flow it’s probably good she’s pacing herself out but god it’s hard to get anything done or any sleep! It seems like by the time I’ve burped and changed her she’s ready for the next lot. Did anyone else’s baby do this and does it end???

BabyBird20 · 12/07/2020 23:45

Oh yes @UKtoSK Benji was like that in those early days!! I thought it would never end but he will now sleep 4 hours as long as he is on someone! The midwife reassured me at the time their tummy is the size of a marble so can't take in that much and they shouldn't sleep too long as they would get too hungry/dehydrated!! It's A killer sleep wise but does improve quickly! However Benji still won't go in the crib at 4 weeks but I can't let him cry in there so give up quickly so probably my fault!

UKtoSK · 13/07/2020 04:40

@BabyBird20 glad to hear it doesn’t last! She actually did a 20 minute feed this morning and then went a good 3 hours before the next one so we both had a good nap. Then an hour later she was acting hungry but only did 2 minutes... sometimes I think she just likes the comfort, which is fine because I love cuddling her while she feeds. Luckily she has always slept well in her cot but I’m prepared for that to suddenly change one day.

Smiffette · 13/07/2020 09:15

@BabyBird20 Tallulah is 1 month old today and I'm still struggling to get her to sleep in her next to me crib. We have improved over the last 10 days from 45 minutes to a 2 and a half hour stint... it's the getting her to go back down after her first middle of the night feed. I put a hot water bottle in there so it's warm when she goes in, I wonder if it's because it's cooled by the time I try and put her back after the feed!? 🤷🏼‍♀️

My back is grateful for those couple of hours without her on me though!

Have you read about the Fourth Trimester? After learning about that I relaxed a bit and thought I'm not going to stress too much and routine and her sleeping habits until she's reached 12 weeks/3 months and gotten over those 12 week jabs! Then I'll be getting serious about sleep!

My niece was sleeping through at 3/4 months but she was formula fed so think those babies are meant to sleep a bit better

Mj2196 · 13/07/2020 09:57

@BabyBird20 Jamie is 5 weeks and still sleeping in his pram . We’re going to try the snuzpod this weekend . Just seems a shame when he sleeps 2/3 hour blocks atm. but must be done can’t stay in there forever 😅

umabb · 13/07/2020 12:52

@HaichMal sounds so much like my Zach. We introduced bottle feeding with expressed milk so DH can help with 1 feed overnight, and also for when nanny's here (two mornings/ week). He does so well with the bottles BUT gets worse and worse with breastfeeding. He'd head butt my boob, tease for ages eventually latch then let go in a few seconds of sucking, cry sometimes during the feed too. Mega frustrating. Spoke to a bf consultant and we were told that babies this young (5.5 week old)should not be able to have a preference but I can't find a reason other than that. These couple of days he started his growth spurt again and drained the expressed milk stock and because my boobs don't get enough stimulation as he doesn't suck enough I'm not sure whether I can catch up with milk supply to satisfy his growing appetite and now having to consider formula. Sad

Other than this he can now sleep 3-4 hours for his first sleep overnight then follow with a two hours sleep with little effort to put him down after feed. During the day he still has his long sleeps (2.5hr +) and im taking it as a plus so I can get some quiet time..

umabb · 13/07/2020 12:58

@UKtoSK sounds like cluster feeding for the first growth spurt. She will settle soon xx

Zach doesn't like the snuzpod either but happy to sleep most of the time in his sleepyhead which sits right in the snuzpod. Most of the time we have to hold him until he's asleep/half asleep and use a white noise app to calm him if he wakes up when putting down. The fussy evenings are hard sometimes we have to put him in the sling to calm down and fall asleep before we transfer him but he can gets really good sleep after that which is nice. Have said that , not today! Believe he's having his growth spurt and can't settle without attached to us - he's snoring away in my sling right now.

Mj2196 · 13/07/2020 15:15

@mrssunshinexxx Im not sure do you still see a midwife? I was discharged after day 10. I just went to my doctors as soon as I thought it was infected he swabbed it for me there & prescribed antibiotics .
I pushed my pram on day 7 as I find the sling worse than pushing the pram cause of the way it sits . but baby j is way over 11lb now and kills my stomach muscles! At least you can manage to get out &Hope your feeling slightly better

mrssunshinexxx · 13/07/2020 20:17

@Mj2196 I'm under the idwife for a month atleast due to my mum passing away they want to keep a closer eye on me for PND I presume
The midwife swabbed it for me on sat the results should be back tomorrow I tijink I'm going to need another course of antibiotics x

Gigitree · 13/07/2020 20:48

Anyone else suffering with back ache? Mine is killing me today! Not sure why, I’ve tried doing some stretches to help but nothing touches it!

Busylizzie85 · 13/07/2020 21:30

@Gigitree I've been getting pain in my lower back, hips and knees it's like being pregnant again especially trying to lift her with me holding her off the sofa 🙈
At just over 4 weeks she's a right little chubby gorgeous lump 🥰

June 2020 Babies - newborn snuggles, recovery, milk and night feeds!
Pegase · 13/07/2020 21:59

Yup I have backache particularly when walking! @mrssunshinexxx I think I will need more antibiotics too - last day tomorrow and incision has yellow discharge still

Smiffette · 13/07/2020 22:03

@gigitree I get bad back ache but I think it's to do with sleeping position because DD sleeps on me at night

SRS1311 · 13/07/2020 22:28

It sounds like the constant feeding, refusing to be put down and fussy evenings go on for a while, I'm only on week 1! Grin

How have people found infacol? Are you using it continuously or just for a period of time I.e one week?

Anyones little one suffering with reflux? I think ours is, he seems in pain after feeding, brings his milk up and constantly has hiccups!

Gigitree · 13/07/2020 22:57

@Busylizzie85 my hips are hurting too! It’s so weird my SPD seemed to clear up after she was born, but now I feel like it’s playing up again!

@Pegase yeah mine seems to get aggravated when I walk too

@Smiffette yeah I think I’m sitting awkwardly when feeding/burping etc which isn’t helping!

Gigitree · 13/07/2020 23:00

@SRS1311 we’ve been using infacol and according to my midwife it’s got a cumulative effect so you need to use it consistently in order for it to be of any benefit. It’s not been a dramatic effect but it has improved things for us xx

mrssunshinexxx · 13/07/2020 23:00

@Gigitree yes ! Did you have a section ? I'm sure the anaesthetist has done something ! When putting epidural in he touched something and it caused a trapped nerve in my left thigh so I felt nothing in my stomach each time a contraction came but oh my word my leg !

@Pegase oh no :( mine is grim I'm sure I will need a second lot hoping my swab is back tomorrow

Gigitree · 13/07/2020 23:58

No @mrssunshinexxx I didn’t have a section but I had 2 attempts at an epidural which failed later followed by a spinal block in theatre for my stitches- I didn’t feel any nerve pain like you’ve described though that sounds rough, did they say anything at the time or after about it?

mrssunshinexxx · 14/07/2020 02:40

He just said it was one of those things!
Got the section he number me literLly up to my neck I was giving him grief saying I was going to feel it!

BabyBird20 · 14/07/2020 03:21

@Gigitree I am suffering awful backaches at the moment and coccyx pain when sitting. I just assumed it was linked my existing back problems but I'm now thinking it's linked to the epidural I has as is a different sort of pain!
@mrssunshinexxx I had the same with my spinal! It went too high and I couldn't feel my hands or jaw! Horrendous experience😬😬

mrssunshinexxx · 14/07/2020 06:28

@BabyBird20 grim isn't it did they use that cold spray on you? It wasn't until my neck that I flinched!
Luckily I had said I wanted my husband to hold her first and for the full 30 mins in recovery even though he did end up getting to stay for 5 hours but I couldn't of held her if I had wanted to I couldn't lift my hands

BabyBird20 · 14/07/2020 06:40

Exactly the same here @mrssunshinexxx It was awful. I could barely breathe and was convinced I was going to die at one point. Horrendous. I didn't even cry or anything when he arrived as I was focused on breathing and my husband had to have the skin to skin etc like you. Luckily in recovery I managed to have those happy moments once I could sit up and hold him. Sadly my husband was only allowed two hours with us! I'm going to request a birth reflections session at some point to discuss it all as it turned out pretty traumatic!

HaichMal · 14/07/2020 06:58

Another one with back and hip ache here, especially when I walk or stand for a while. My back got pretty bad yesterday but I think I wasn't sitting very well when holding and feeding her. I'm also back to waking feeling stiff and sore in my hips and back. I didn't have an epidural but I did have SPD when pregnant. Going to try and up how many times I do my pelvic floor and maybe try some stretches and see if that helps any, if I can get Charlotte down for a bit.

Sorry to hear about all the c-section infections, aches and pains, and everything else.

Congratulations for all the new babies (forgot that in the last message)

@UKtoSK Charlotte's feeds are similar. I'm not sure whether her short feed times have been due to the thrush or not but 5-15 mins per side seem to be her usual thus far, which has thrown me a bit as DS2 was a 15-30 mins per side, even when cluster feeding and swapping between the two. Yesterday she was certainly cluster feeding in a manner like you've described, so it was a fun day spent under a baby.

I think the thrush must definitely be gone for that to happen and she's trying to build my supply back up since it no doubt dropped with her only nursing for 2-5mins or 2-10 mins every 2 hours for over 2 weeks, with a few longer feeds thrown in when she started feeling better. It definitely reminds me of when she was first born and encouraging my milk to come in. We didn't have this during weeks 2 and 3 when it's also expected due to a growth spurt, I'm assuming because of the thrush, so we're obviously having it now at week 5. Its a lot harder to manage with 2 other children and DH at work. She won't settle with DH either so it's all me.

@Pegase I did wonder a bit about reflux, with the hiccups, preference for being upright, it sometimes sounding like she's swallowing something she's brought up and being fussy and hard to settle at during and after a feed sometimes, but it's not all the time so I'm not sure whether this is it or not or just growth spurt/hunger etc. I did mention it to the infant feeding lady who rang yesterday and she just said bits of that are normal and to just put her back to the breast if she has hiccups. We so far also have once a week where she brings up her feed within moments of finishing it 🤷‍♀️ I don't know enough about reflux and silent reflux but I think I might just keep an eye on it for now, with us having the disruption due to thrush.

@umabb we're doing reasonably well at night, once I actually get her settled, which can take some time at the moment. I've even had 3 5-5.5hr stretches, which has been amazing. Generally she wakes once, like Zach, has a short feed and settles again easily back to sleep. She used to be a bit like Zach during the day as well, going down OK in the carry cot for a while once settled but that's mostly gone to pot with the thrush affecting her feeding. We've had a few decent naps in the carry cot in the last few days, except yesterday, mostly just the one after a good lunch time feed, so the two definitely seem linked for us. Hopefully once this cluster is done and her feeding is improved, we'll see improvements all round. We had 2 lovely nights almost a fortnight ago now where she did 2hr stretches in her crib at night, but that changed as the thrush came back again. I don't mind the co-sleeping for now though, if we both sleep so well. I'd just like to go back to her at least having 1 decent sleep in the carry cot so I can have a bit of time for me as well as with the boys.
