@HaichMal what you describe about the possible reflux sounds like the issues we are having. I spoke to the doctor about it yesterday and they are going to prescribe Gaviscon. We are using the infacol aswell. I always worry I'm not winding him properly/ enough, its difficult to get a good technique!

Busylizzie85 · 14/07/2020 08:05

@BabyBird20 @mrssunshinexxx same happened to me regarding epidural it did not work properly and I could feel every contraction in part of my back and then later on in one part of my stomach it as horrendous, we needed up with a spinal for a forceps delivery it was the only relief I had from all the pain but now you have both said it about your backs I'm wondering whether they could be all related to what we went through!

mrssunshinexxx · 14/07/2020 11:19

@BabyBird20 horrible isn't it :(
It aaabt until my husband left and I was on the ward in my private room and I had come round and was actually awake but I had my moment then and fell completely in love with her

He was allowed to stay longer due to mr losing my mum the hospital were amazing but I'd much rather have my mum and him be kicked out after 30 mins and he would agree
It's shit x

Anyone's baby lost their appetite? She fed so much yesterday, which I thought was due to catching up now the thrush is out of the way, and that she was finally doing a growth spurt cluster feed, but today she's barely fed and mostly just wanted to sleep, which of course is only really on me. Wonder Weeks says we've just started Leap 1 at week 5 and that loss of appetite and being 'clingy are usual but we've been so over the place because of the thrush that I have no idea if I'm coming or going or whatever.

Girlinajumpsuit · 14/07/2020 18:01

@HaichMal exactly the same! Theo is 5 weeks today and I feel like I've barely fed him or changed a nappy! When I do feed him it's much shorter and hes been really fussy and keeps coming on and off. Whereas yesterday he cluster fed all morning and evening. Good to know there might be a reason for it!what does Leap 1 mean?

HaichMal · 14/07/2020 18:56

@Girlinajumpsuit it's so reassuring to know it's not just me! The thrush and her feeding habits being so different from her brother's are completely throwing me at the moment (her long feeds are the same as his short feeds were) . Her feeds today have been about 4 minutes long and yes, the same with coming on and off. I've just changed a dirty nappy and am feeling somewhat relieved by that.

Hi ladies,

Hope everyone is doing ok.

Bit of a random question: I recently noticed that both my breasts are looking much pinker than usual below the areolas and on the outer sides of the breasts. I only notice it when looking in the mirror. I don't think it's mastitis as it's not painful or hot and I feel well. I asked my HV and she wasn't sure what it was or whether it was something to be concerned about it. Does anyone else have similar pinker areas? Or any ideas what could be causing it? Not sure if it's worth a gp visit.

BabyBird20 · 15/07/2020 19:28

@SearchingTheSkies I'm not sure sorry but if it's painful or sore I would def speak to the GP, breast pain while feeding is the pits!! Hope you're ok!!

I feel like we have regressed sleep wise, I keep trying to lay him down both fully asleep after being winded or 'awake but drowsy' and either way he is crying to be picked up within minutes now. He will sleep amazingly well on me or DH but we need to move to the crib ASAP! Argh!!

On a more positive note though we had our first tear free bath today! Small progress makes things easier!! 🥰

MsMiaWallace · 16/07/2020 09:04

Is everyone still wearing their big granny pants? Lol

Busylizzie85 · 16/07/2020 09:28

Me @MsMiaWallace 🙈 the comfort easy food is still to much of a temptation so the weight is not going any where fast!

BabyBird20 · 16/07/2020 10:10

@MsMiaWallace oh yes!! I can't imagine going back to normal!! Love the giant granny pants. My DH finds it hilarious 😂

Gigitree · 16/07/2020 10:42

Haha yes @MsMiaWallace think they will still be around for a long time yet 😂😂

mrssunshinexxx · 16/07/2020 12:18

Yes because my wound is infected 😫 can't wait to get rid although they are comfy @MsMiaWallace

Pegase · 16/07/2020 12:33

How are you getting on @mrssunshinexxx ? My GP has referred me back to hospital so was at urgent care last night for an examination and higher strength antibiotics and have to go for further tests tomorrow

Gigitree · 16/07/2020 13:38

Health Visitor and GP both think baby Grace has reflux 😢 so now we are trying out infant gaviscon.
Feeling really down and emotional it just feels like it’s been one thing after the other, first a traumatic birth, then my milk never came in so we ended up back in hospital with a 17% weightloss on day 5, then switching to formula and she became very colicky and now reflux
I just want to enjoy my gorgeous baby girl but I feel like I can’t go any where or do anything as I just spend the day trying to get her to settle.

Pegase · 16/07/2020 14:11

@Gigitree it won't last forever. Our first baby had dreadful reflux and was a colicky nightmare but she grew out of it and even with the reflux became much easier to settle when she was 3 months +

We were referred to paediatrician and by the time we were actually seen at four months she had improved a lot.

It is awful when you are going through it. I read the happiest baby on the block by Karp and the fussy baby book by Sears and both had good tips for understanding and dealing with tricky babies. They are both American so not all relevant but still useful.

Blizy · 16/07/2020 14:16

@Gigitree reflux is a bastard! Rose is showing signs of it too. My ds who is now 5 suffered horribly intact he still has screaming episodes at night because of it and still sees the paed. It's utterly soul destroying knowing there's nothing you can do to ease their pain.
I would push for omeprozole, the gaviscon can cause bad constipation.

I'm phasing out expressing and moving onto formula (hipp organic) Rose has been quite unsettled since, she's having horrific nappies, yesterday it was 8 soils within an hour!

Gigitree · 16/07/2020 14:48

Thank you @Pegase that’s reassuring to hear that your little one improved by 4 months! Thanks for the book suggestions too!

@Blizy oh no that sounds awful I’m sorry to hear your little one is still suffering!

Yeah I’ve been warned about the constipation! Seems ridiculous to me that they’re so quick to prescribe gaviscon when clearly all it does is cause them more discomfort!
My midwife said to see how we go over the next couple of days with the gaviscon and to go back to the gp if it’s not helping.
Did you notice if the gaviscon helped your little one at all before it caused the constipation?

Sorry to hear Rose has been so unsettled! Grace had a lot of poo explosions when we moved from boob to bottle!

Pegase · 16/07/2020 14:55

@Blizy mine had terrible diarrhoea for a day when we moved from ebm to formula- also Hipp- but all fine now 2 wks in

Blizy · 16/07/2020 15:28

@Gigitree the gavison helped him keep some of his milk down. He used to projectile vomit a ridiculous amount. I hope Grace settles and the gaviscon does help her.

@pegase I'm glad to hear it might just be Rose getting used to the formula. Can I ask how you reduced your milk flow and expressing? I've cut out a couple of sessions and I'm currently reducing the amount of time expressing (5mins) only expressing to feel comfortable.

mrssunshinexxx · 16/07/2020 16:46

Sorry to hrs that @Pegase isit still very sore?

I'm on same antibiotics again but a weeks course started on Tuesday the course before was for 5 days

Pegase · 16/07/2020 19:19

A bit sore on the raw patch - took some painkillers for it today for the first time in weeks.

@Blizy I was planning to cut down session by session but midwife said it would be easier to just go cold turkey and wear a sports bra and breast pads. Obviously I was worried about this due to mastitis but decided to follow her advice and completely ditched the pump and just hand expressed for comfort. It was like engorgement all over again for two days but then settled. I had one small lump which I massaged out. Even going cold turkey I am still leaking a little now 2 weeks later so think it will be quite a while before it dries up entirely.

Mj2196 · 17/07/2020 07:47

Can’t believe baby j is 6 weeks old tomorrow & we’ve done 6 weeks of breastfeeding despite his tongue tie .(with the help of 5 tubes of nipple cream lol) . We’re STILL waiting on our referral to the main hospital as local couldn’t separate it safely. Im so disappointed it’s taking so long no wonder so many women give up by the time they are ready to be seen.
First night in his snuz pod was great, only 3 night feeds and Then wouldn’t go back down after 5am.
We’re still feeding hourly/2 hourly in the day though he’s pilling On the weight !

We have proper smiles now it’s lovely 😁

Oh he's just lovely @Mj2196
my LO is 5 weeks tomorrow can't believe how quickly the time has gone!

Blizy · 17/07/2020 10:54

Rose is 5 weeks old and finally fits into the wee suit and I'd picked out as her first outfit, her first frugi.
