@BirdGarden wow hats off to you back at work already pls feel free not to answer but did you want to go back this soon x

APD1981 · 03/07/2020 03:51

@babybird20 could he have reflux if he's doing that so much when lying down?x

mrssunshinexxx · 03/07/2020 04:04

@APD1981 I will reply to you tomorrow want to have time to reply xx

BirdGarden · 03/07/2020 05:45

@BabyBird20 that's how my letdown feels to be honest, kicks in after a week perhaps and carries on for a good few months. I get it if I've not fed her for an interval if boobs feel "it's time"!

@mrssunshinexxx yes sort of, as it's only at home and part time it all seemed manageable when booked, it means DH can take a long stint of shared parental leave as I'm "surrendering" my maternity leave. He's in the forces and missed out on DD1 stuff because of work so nice he's really around for both of them now. I just have to remember that trying to get a few hours work done each day will be easier than him going back to work and leaving me with both girls!

Naturally, we have had a dreadful night, I already had a hellish headache and now I have a hellish headache and no sleep. This is going to go well...

mrssunshinexxx · 03/07/2020 07:28

@BirdGarden ah that makes sense and will defo be easier than him being away but doesn't mean your not allowed to find it hard
Big glass of water and a filling breakfast- you've got this x

BabyBird20 · 03/07/2020 11:49

@Pegase I can't see any patches of white in his mouth but there's definitely something going wrong, my boobs are getting more painful! @BirdGarden I did think it might be let down but it's randomly happening in both boobs more and more and it's hurting while he's latched again now so feel like I've taken a big step backwards sadly!! @APD1981 I think he might do as he is getting worse sickiness wise!!

On a random note, if anyone is struggling to lift baby up and down onto the floor/bed/car seat, I really recommend the snugglebundl blanket!! It's made my life so much easier!!

Hi everyone, I gave birth to my DD on Monday at 00:30 AM via Induction and forceps (I am happy with how the labour & delivery went) and I am feeling a lot better than I would have imagined. Obviously tired and emotional but that's to be expected!

I have been breastfeeding this since my DD's birth but she hadn't poo'ed for 48 hours by yesterday afternoon and looks very jaundice so the midwife sent us to the hospital to have the proper test. She has lost 4% body weight & they decided that her jaundice could be treated with a feeding plan. I have decided to get breastfeeding a break as my nipples are is bad shape and try her on formula. I'm planning to get an electric breast pump and try to express some milk for her to take by the bottle. Has anyone else been in a similar situation or have any advice regarding expressing and feeding from a bottle (along side formula).

She slept very well last night after some formula and poo'ed as well so we all felt a bit better this morning. DH has enjoyed giving her some feeds as well.

It's all good fun isn't it! 😊

@Mj2196 we never put the sleepyhead in the big bed but it has the lifted edgy making sure no duvet could go over him I believed We use it in the snuzpod which sits next to our bed - size wise it's perfect to fit in.

I ordered colief and still on the way but managed to get a hold of Infancol right away yesterday so started to use it. He seems to feel a lot better ! He had such a peaceful evening on our laps when we watched a full tv episode (haven't seen him so relaxed for a while) and fell asleep about 9pm in his sleepyhead snoring away! However woke up screaming in 30mins guess because wine passing through. The husband tried to calm him for the next two hours and eventually deep sleep and had his longest stretch of sleep of 3 hours! Mother is very happy! I can't thank you enough for the recommendation @APD1981 xxx

He's one month old today!

Pegase · 03/07/2020 14:01

@Magpie21 what do you want to know about expressing ?

In general my main tips are:

  • get a good double electric pump. Mine is Ardo calypso which I have been pleased with.
  • pump for 15-20 minutes each go
  • if doing a lot, getting a hands free pumping bra will be helpful so don't have to hold the funnels
  • in theory pump as often as you would feed. With DD1 I pumped 4x every 24hrs (including once overnight) because I had a high milk supply but they recommend double that really
  • kellymom website has a good section on expressing

Any questions let me know- I expressed for months for DD1 to bottle feed her breast milk as she could not latch.

APD1981 · 03/07/2020 16:35

@umabb ahh that's brilliant! We had a brilliant night last night too. Fed about 9.30, I went to bed at 10pm. He slept on DH downstairs til 12.30 and then DH gave him a bottle of expressed milk. Brought him to bed and straight in his crib fast asleep at 1am. Woke at 3.30 for a feed then slept til 6.15! I feel like a new woman today! Amazing!

I phoned the GP this morning and was prescribed 4 bottles of Colief. Considering it's £12 a bottle I'm glad to get a prescription x

@APD1981 that's amazing!! Sounds like the dream right now!

What is everyone doing woth their little ones during the day? Benji has some periods of alert awake time now so feel like I should start entertaining him a bit! Also he sleeps a lot of the early evening which I'm wondering if this stops him sleeping overnight. What times do your little ones sleep during the day and do you do anything to deliberately keep them awake etc?

@BabyBird20 we got some black and white books to show him. But he seems to only like one page and pays attention which is the bunny rabbit hehe. I would play some baby music for him. Tummy time. Skin to skin. Look around in the house (he loves the fish tank) and in the garden (he likes to look up at the shades of the trees).

@APD1981 sounds wonderful! Let's hope more of these kind of nights to come ! Zach had a long stretch of sleep of 3 hours during the day and awake for a long while until just now. Fingers crossed for tonight. So glad it's weekend coming so can "use" the husband as much as he can. (He wfh since week 3).

Hi everyone, I am a FTM and gave birth to my daughter Esme on 17 June. I’m still really anxious about dressing her for bed time. Our room is 20 degrees and I have her in a vest and love to dream swaddle bag 1.0 tog with a cellular blanket over her. Does this sound about right? xo

mrssunshinexxx · 04/07/2020 01:40

@mangoforbreakfast86 mines around 20degree I have vest baby grow and thin ish blanket socks and sock ons I feel her neck and just go by that hands are always a little cold But that's because they are out

BabyBird20 · 04/07/2020 02:05

Thanks @umabb I will try some of those ideas thank you! 🥰

@mangoforbreakfast86 I have this dilemma every night still! Mine loves to be warm and swaddled so he is usually in vest, babygrow then swaddle blanket but I worry he'll get too hot all the time!! It was a nightmare when the weather was boiling though as didn't swaddle him and he just wouldn't sleep 😬😬

Magpie21 · 04/07/2020 02:28

@pegase This is useful info thank you. I have expressed my first batch and plan to 'serve' it tomorrow morning. How to you warm up the refrigeratorated milk? NHS website suggests placing the bottle in hot water to bring it up to temperature.

I got some cramps when I started expressing, which I was half expecting. It gave me flashbacks to my contractions 😅

Busylizzie85 · 04/07/2020 06:36

@mangoforbreakfast86 I'm also a FTM I have been following the grobag guide, so currently it's 21 degrees in the bedroom so she's in a long sleeved vest and a 1.5 tog (she does have a 1tog but not much difference between the two) grow bag and nothing else. I have found she sleeps better if I don't over think what she is wearing.
I was told better to be slightly cold then hot.

Pegase · 04/07/2020 07:52

Yes to serve EBM I just kept a Pyrex jug next to the kettle and warmed the container in hot water for a few minutes.

Some of the fat can separate so I found it preferable to warm the breast milk pot and then pour into the bottle so none of the good stuff is left behind.

Keep the bottle more or less horizontal when feeding with milk covering the teat to prevent air getting in but don't tip it right up!

Millettmum · 04/07/2020 08:22

Did any of you ladies have the balloon induction? How long did it take etc?

umabb · 04/07/2020 10:46

What a night... Zach was up from 7:30 until 11pm - neither me or DH could calm him he was so upset. Never seen anybody has so much gas/burp coming up - just constantly having to burp him. So we stopped Infacol thinking might be too much of the meds. Eventually he slept in my sling for an hour and then I put him down for another 3 hours. He was shattered. He then had another 2 hour sleep until 6. Today we are trying Colief. Poor thing hopefully it will get better for him soon. 😭

umabb · 04/07/2020 10:50

@Millettmum hey i did. Balloon went in 7pm and overnight I had period cramps kind of pain and 7am I was 2cm dilated. Then they broke my waters and I started regular contractions and by 11am I was 3cm but progress wasn't fast enough so had drips on. Next 4 hours was slow - stayed 4cm the whole time. But then the following 4 hours I dilated to 9cm very quickly. Baby was born 11:23pm. So whole process was over 24 hours but the actual labour I would say is about 12 hours.
Hope it helps

Busylizzie85 · 04/07/2020 10:51

Does anyone's else's little ones bottom lip quiver a lot? Ivys has it since birth and some days it happens more than others.

Millettmum · 04/07/2020 10:55

@umabb
After three tablets they eventually got a balloon in last night which she said I was about 2cm then, had strong pains every 3-4 mins in between sleeping last night but has completely stopped again, mine is staying in for 24 hours so bouncing on the ball before I get assessed by doctor tonight. I came in Thursday morning!
