Still waiting for my little man to arrive but starting a thread ready. Can't wait to catch up with all the other May 20 mums.

Huge congratulations to those who have already met their little ones. It's been quite a scary time to face giving birth recently and you've all done amazingly.

@CharlieB93 Yes it is, isn't it? I suffer with palpations too, had so many checks and had a monitor in pregnancy too, but they never seem worried (but always worried me!), and I was told when I first got them after my first pregnancy it had common in women in their 30s...

CharlieB93 · 07/02/2021 16:46

@Raindancer411 that doesn’t sound right - have you been back since? Could it be anxiety related? I’ve often suffered with anxiety throughout my teens and palpitations was one of the main symptoms.

Raindancer411 · 07/02/2021 18:01

@CharlieB93 I am a very anxious person so I guess it could be related. Haven't been back since as it was only in April I had the last monitor. Going through a bit of stress currently with a not well dog (had a major op on Wednesday and she was away for a couple of nights)

CharlieB93 · 07/02/2021 18:34

@Raindancer411 that could be the cause, anxiety does very strange things to my body (including feeling sick) maybe worth checking at the doctors again though. I’m sorry to hear about your dog I hope they are on the mend now 💕

CharlieB93 · 07/02/2021 18:34

Whilst I’m on here, has anyone tried sleep training? (Controlled crying)

May2311 · 07/02/2021 19:09

Ah lovely to hear everyone is doing well ❤️. Again I can’t believe how quick time is going!! LO is crawling all over and cruising along furniture & expect her to be fully off walking soon. She can hold her weight but when she wants to go somewhere she knows she is quicker crawling 🤣

@Moonstone12 wow congratulations!! How lovely as they will be close together so will be able to entertain each other. How old are your others? Cx

Ok so my first post pregnancy period has returned and it's absolutely horrendous! Day 2 of cramping and soooo heavy :( is this normal?!

Raindancer411 · 16/02/2021 05:13

@november90 Yes it can be. My periods have changed so much after this pregnancy and are longer and heavier

May2311 · 16/02/2021 07:05

@november90 yes mine was the same. Super heavy/crampy. Tbh I still a lot heavier now. Hope it eases soon for you!

Xxx

november90 · 16/02/2021 09:30

Thanks girls! I was so worried this morning when I had filled an overnight pad. I literally never do that, it took me by such a surprise! I don't know why but I felt a bit emotional when it came back 🙈

Raindancer411 · 16/02/2021 13:38

@november90 Yes that was what happened to me but in the day it wasn't as bad

Emmacb82 · 24/02/2021 15:52

Hi hope everyone is well. I’ve just received a letter about health visitor development check for 9-12 months. All well and good apart from the fact that it’s a phone call. Is anyone else fed up of the fact that covid is used as an excuse for no health professionals to set eyes on a baby. My friend has recently had a baby and she has had a home visit from the health visitor. Babies born in the first lockdown have had no input whatsoever. I’m a paeds nurse so of course I’m fine with assessing my baby and I’m not a first time mum either. But I really feel for those mums who needed extra support (I had pnd with my first) and have had nothing. And I think it’s so bad that so many children are going to slip through the net because no one has seen them. Sorry for the rant. Just wondered whether you have all been offered the same and how you felt.

May2311 · 24/02/2021 17:36

Hi @Emmacb82!

100% agree!! It is so scary thinking of mums/dads that are struggling and not having the support- over the phone you can say anything( no way you can read body language etc). I understand that Covid is a horrible thing and we have to do as much as we can to keep everyone safe but my husband is a teacher who even though schools are "closed" he has still been going in every day with 80% at capacity across the school so why a HV can't come out for these one off appts to me is bizarre as my understanding is they should have been offered vaccine by now( unlike hubby and 1000 more people in similar situation). My friend has actually just had her daughters 12 month check and she rang the HV and pushed saying no one has seen her since 10 days old and they ended up coming out face to face. Good job they did as they actually noticed a problem with her hip movement so it wouldn't have been picked up otherwise!! Xx

november90 · 24/02/2021 18:39

We had our review today and thankfully it was in person! My health visitor is absolutely amazing and is the same HV for my eldest so I've known her a while. She's really been a massive support to me whilst my ex has been an issue and I think that's probably why she came out to see me in person! My sister on the other hand can't get her Hv to return her calls via virgin care or her mobile and her review was over the phone with not even a HV!
The service really is so inconsistent and so unfair for all those parents at home who are suffering:(

Emmacb82 · 25/02/2021 07:14

I’m glad I’m not the only one. And it annoys me more that some areas are offering it and others aren’t. It should be the same across the board. I will be feeding back to them. As a paeds nurse we see so much child neglect. I can’t believe that they are happy to not set eyes on every child at least once before they turn one.

CharlieB93 · 25/02/2021 07:20

@Emmacb82 couldn’t agree more! We’ve not seen any healthcare professional since my daughter was 5 days old. I’ve rang the HV on two occasions worried about bits and bobs and they just said if I was really worried take her to the GP 🙄 like you say it feels like a poor excuse not to do home visits. We’ve been weighing her on the bathroom scales to make sure she’s putting weight on since she was born.

EmmaOvary · 25/02/2021 21:28

@CharlieB93 very late reply to this but we started the Ferber Method last week. He's taken to it well, no crazy bouts of crying or I think we would have abandoned it to be honest. He still wakes overnight, sometimes quite a few times, but will grizzle for a few mins then fall asleep again. So far I can't say my own sleep has improved much as it's still disturbed but LO is better rested in the morning and it's been good to see he can definitely go through the night without a feed. Hopefully soon he will work up to sleeping right through.

Raindancer411 · 26/02/2021 05:35

Little one has only turns 9 months and haven't heard of any checks yet. I am hoping now we are starting to open up things soon, that her check will be in person. When she was born they did say about her ankles turning inwards but was probably positional as of how she was in the womb. Had her assessed by video call and they said was ok. I am obviously holding off judgment until she starts to walk properly so would prefer her see in person.

cosymama2020 · 27/02/2021 10:30

My little one is 10 months old next week and no letter for a HV check up yet. When I stopped breastfeeding I more or less demanded that the health visitor came to weigh little one as I was worried that she wasn’t gaining weight but that was when she was 4 months old. Had a call at 6 months but she kept talking over me and trying to answer for me, ‘you’re not co-sleeping are you, brilliant, baby can hold her own weight on legs, fabulous’ I had to interrupt her so much to answer questions she was asking. Everything was fine but how would she have known as she didn’t let me bloody answer anything! I felt like a tick box exercise.

We’re very lucky that little one is healthy but as a first time mum, I expected a bit more involvement from health professionals. I’m a confident parent and luckily haven’t suffered from any PND or mental health issues but I was only asked once how I was feeling and that was at LO’s 8 weeks jabs.

As a side note what is everyone doing to keep little one occupied in the house? I’m working full time from home and I want to find some new ways to keep baba occupied while we’re inside. Any types of messy play or any ideas like that? X

Raindancer411 · 03/03/2021 14:35

How are people getting in with weaning? We are behind by the months, so at 9 months it's not going well.. she likes her baby porridge and kiddilious wafer and finger food crisps, but any other jar, she won't eat at all. We have tried giving her bits of veg on her tray but so far no cigar...

Emmacb82 · 03/03/2021 16:37

Had a break through with the health visitor. They cancelled my phone appointment so I spoke to them and said I wasn’t happy not seeing anyone. I said I was speaking on behalf of lots of parents who have had no support during this last year. They are taking my comments further up and I’m having a home visit next week.

Weaning wise, doing really well here. Now 10 months so on 3 proper meals a day. Dinners have been hit and miss, he loves a jar but home cooked food takes a little bit more work but he is starting to eat most things we offer now. He is a beast when it comes to food. I would say, don’t stress about it. Up until they are 1, milk is still the most important source of food. So just focus on trying lots of different foods and don’t worry about the amount she eats. I used to get really stressed with my first and have been really laid back with my second.

May2311 · 03/03/2021 17:49

Evening all!

@Raindancer411 my LO is 10 months today ( still can't believe how quick time goes!) weaning we are doing fine ( on 3 meals a day & she seems to be cutting out her mid afternoon bottle the last week as well so she has morning and before bed bottle. I am still offering a bottle mid afternoon but she just doesn't have any interest so I'm just rolling with her. My friend has a LO that is 11.5 and her weaning journey has been slow as baby wasn't that keen. She kept mixing up different flavours/foods and trying as like others have said it's more getting them used to flavours. The last month she has said she seems to be a lot more interested in food. I think all babies just do it at different stages. Try not to worry as she will be getting the nutrition she needs from her milk.

@Emmacb82 great news! Funny enough our "phone" 10-12month appt came through today as well- I've rang to insist on a face to face & waiting for HV to call back.

Can you believe this time last year we were all counting down to going on mat leave 🙈 Those of you who are back at work how are you finding it? Xxx

november90 · 06/03/2021 22:07

Is anyone still in Mat leave? Mine is ending mid April and I just can't come to terms with it :(

May2311 · 07/03/2021 07:18

Mine ends 10th May. Well technically end of March but then I have to use up my leave so I go back then. I'm going back part time but still struggling with the idea of leaving her 3 days 😖😖 what will your childcare arrangements be? Xx

Emmacb82 · 07/03/2021 11:10

My mat leave officially finished in January and have been using leave. Go back in two weeks time. Am dreading it. I’ve never left N and am going to miss him so much. Am going to be working night shifts and then coming home to look after him so will be really tired. Going to be hard work. But I don’t want to have to pay out for childcare when I’m technically at home. Just feel so cheated that we didn’t get a proper mat leave. Everything is going to start opening up again just as we all go back, which is great, but I feel sad I haven’t been able to do the things I’d planned or even see anyone outside these 4 walls. Might just have to have another one 🤔🤣
