EdieMcredie · 28/11/2007 19:42

MrsFish-Yes I slept well last night although woke a couple of times to check monitor!!

Chatty-Good that doc thinks baby is fine. Colds can certainly stop babies putting on weight. I guess as long as alex feeds ok and is still having wet and dirty nappies he is fine. My friends baby lost weight when she had a cold.

PurpleLostPrincess · 28/11/2007 23:04

Awww kinki, hope you feel better soon, what a palaver! Have you been told if you can take ecchinacea or not? I have found it to be amazing and did some research into it when I was bf'ing and got mixed responses tbh so I took a low dose. Hope you find something that works for you and that you get your nights back again xx

edie - of course we remember you I had DD1 in her own room by 4 months and was intending on doing so with Cerys but what with everything that has happened I reckon that will be delayed a bit. She still fits in her moses basket with lots of room and I have to admit that I'd like her to stay in it next to us for as long as possible but I'm thinking we'll aim for 6 months and anything before that is a bonus. I just want to get these next two operations out of the way first really... I'm just so paranoid with her even though we've got a fancy video monitor thing! She's sleeping through so I don't know why I'm like that but I've given up trying to figure myself out these days

dal - glad things are going well

Hiya MrsFish and twit!

Chatty - from what I saw of Alex yesterday he is definitely very healthy and is not wasting away (he's scrummy too which I'm sure you agree with lol!). I agree that the cold must have slowed things down a bit - I'm interested to see how Cerys's weight is affected by her cold too so I'll let you know.

You'll laugh at this but at the same time its a bit serious. DH admitted today that he was worried that I might have been having an affair!!! (like I've got the time or inclination to do such a thing lol!). He said that I've been really down and distant the past week or so (which I have because of a big row we had and a few other things) but that yesterday I went out for the day to meet a 'stranger' and came back much happier. He knows I haven't obviously met somebody but his mind has been playing tricks on him and he got a bit paranoid that I was meeting up with a bloke. I've told him to read this thread if he likes but he says there's no need. I think it just goes to show that a day with a friend can really pick you up (thank you again chatty! ). Part of me says 'bless him' and part of me thinks 'how ridiculous!' but I've decided I've got far too much on my plate to read too much into it and get all upset about it.

It was quite amusing really that our DP's were ringing us while we were going around town as they were concerned about us meeting up with 'somebody off the internet' LOL!

Morning all!!

Miracles of miracles - ryan did not wake til 6 for his feed after the 10pm feed!! fed for 10 mins then straight back down. please please please may this continue/ get better!!

Mrs F - you are doing so well. Down to 5 feeds already! clever you and bub, hasnt been easy I am sure. Can I ask you a question? (And not as a militant bfeeder by any means). When/ how did you make the decision for FF with Ben? I remember you mentioning it an age ago - but cannot remember details. what helped you make your decision?? I just wonder (having gone through it) whether I could bfeed no.2 if I already had a LO.

Edie - Ryan has been in the nursery from 5 weeks, bad mummy . I wanted to move him out from 2 weeks, but persevered for a little while longer. He is such a noisy baby that I wasnt getting any rest and was starting to move into the spare room so DH could sleep. I didnt really want to be in the spare room away from DH, so off Ryan went. Nursery is right across from our room so I can hear him without a monitor. TBH - both he and us sleep heaps better with him in there. Think you just need to do what feels right for you and your family.

PLP - lol at your and chatty's DP's. I think that is so so sweet - my DH didnt bat an eyelid when meeting holly

Right - off to wake baby and start getting the xmas decosrations out of the boxes i made DH get down from the loft

Oh and Chatty - sorry missed your post. I havent had Ryan weighed since his 6 week check - he is 12 weeks tomorrow. I just figure that he is producing plenty of wet/ dirty nappies and he is also into 3-6 month clothing. Should I be getting him weighed??

Hi all, haven't been on here for a while but just spent a pleasant half hour reading posts with babe on my shoulder. have now put her down, so here goes....

Can I do the survey??? - I loved reading the answers, very funny:

housework - cleaner plus 3 children equals not too bad but defo not immaculate.
sex - none and not interested
Christmas - international stuff is done and sent - phew. Cards are purchased but still have about 75% of other prezzies to get - yikes.
sleeping through Anna is sleeping from around 10pm to 5.30/6. Still up most of the evening but don't really mind. I have said no to all evening parties this Christmas, probably a bit Scrooge-like but I can't be bothered to express and I would rather spend this Christmas with her and DH than go out. There is always next year!!
weight - am 5lbs away from pre-preg weight BUT pre-preg weight was 7lbs over pre-Christmas 2006 weight . So 12lbs to go. DH and I are planning our usual January detox - no booze, chocolate, or junk.

Dal - I must agree that FF does not seem to be a big factor in sleeping through. Anna is fully bf and has slept 7-8 hrs a night since she was 5 weeks and she is not a big baby. She was 10lbs 5ozs at 8 weeks.

kinki- so sorry you are poorly . Is C diff the one we are always reading about in the news?? Hope you kick it quickly!!

mrsmar - glad you are back, I was wondering what had happened to you! Sounds like Luca is doing brilliantly.

Must dash, my boys are 5 today and I need to finish wrapping their prezzies while they are at school. Enjoy your babies, they grow up so fast and hardly ever want cuddles anymore - sniff sniff ...

toadstool · 29/11/2007 15:02

Afternoon all. Nice to see people venturing out on tubes and meeting up!
Here it's reached the frustration stage - I'm now nearly off crutches and staggering about the house, but still can't drive or tackle the stairs with the bub in my arms (a sling is OK but you can't see your feet, so it's not really OK). Worse, , I can't persuade myself to go outside with Jos. even though it's nice weather - the pram is hidden away somewhere and I'm too scared of falling over if I put her in a sling. So it's a booooring, endless day of waiting for [a]DD1 to return shrieking and jealous from school around 3.45, [b] J to start on her 3-hour evening screaming routine around 6 and [c] DH to come in 2 hours later and have to take over DD1's bedtime because by the time he arrives she's been told off, the kitchen's in uproar and the baby's in meltdown.
Glad, glad days. Every single day, in fact.
Right, off to get stage one going...

MrsFish · 29/11/2007 16:35

Oh what a day, just managed to sit down and catch up on here

Another good night here, Ben fed at 8.30 and then slept till 5am. I am off out tonight so am going to attempt a dreamfeed at about 11, and hope he goes through till 7am

Dropped Sam off at nursery at 9am this morning, then drove straight into town to finish off Xmas shopping, then from there straight to see HV at 2pm to get Ben weighed (13 pound 8 ounces now - so he has put on a pound and an ounce in the last two weeks) then from there to Sam's kindergarten for parents evening and got in 20 mins ago, shoved two slices of toast down my neck as was starving, I'm now enjoying a cuppa, posting this and then will nip in the shower and wash my hair, just in time to go and pick Sam up from nursery. Then get home, sort the boys out for bed and then I am off out for a meal with the girls... phew!!

Dal - I had made my mind up to feed Ben for the first week only whilst I had help at home, but in the end it only lasted 24 hours because he made me so sore so quick, that and the pain of the cs made me stop earlier. The reasons I decided to FF are as follows...
1.Sam fed every 2-3 hours for the first 6 months until I started to wean him, and I could be feeding him for up to an hour a time, so I just knew I couldn't spend that kind of time with Ben whilst I have a two and a half year old running around.

  1. I hated to bf in public, just couldn't get my head round it, which limited me when I wanted to go out.
  2. I wanted to get into a routine quicker this time, and ff has definitely meant I can do this, plus I am getting far more sleep so I am happier
  3. I can leave him if I want to go out for the day/night or away for the weekend and my boobs don't become engorged due to lack of feeding and ruin my evening because they hurt so much.
  4. DH can help out with feeds giving me a break from feeling like a human cow.
  5. I can spend more time with Sam so he doesn't get jealous...

Do you want any more reasons?

Right, off for my shower

dal21 · 29/11/2007 16:50

Ok - posting whilst in total shock. now tell me whether I am insane for not knowing this. A lovely neighbour (thank goodness) just asked if I have DS registered at any schools (he is 11 weeks old) for when he turns 4. Thought she was pulling my leg, turns out she isnt. Reading the good schools guide now - need to register as soon as poss after birth.

should i have known this? i thought i didnt even have to think about schools for years.

right am going to try and pick myself off the floor in shock.

OMG Dal, am going to have to get my bum into gear for DD1 then?! There is a pretty good school down the road from me but will we still be living here in 2/3 years time time?! And will I be able to drive if we're not?! Crikey what a palava!! (Mmmm pavlova!!)

Thanks now that's all I can think about! I'm going back to the telly!

kinki · 29/11/2007 20:49

It's lovely to see all the old familar faces - well names - again. How lovely to hear all your news.

Dal, I don't know if it's the same everywhere, but here when you register with a school, you are simply registering an interest (so technically you can register at several schools). It's not first come, first served at all. When it is time for the admissions applications - it's at about now for Sept 08 intake - you put down your choices (here it's 3 choices) and then the schools will select who they want. Priority is based on these factors around here: older sibling in the school, then child with disabilities, then if applicable child of relevent religion, and finally proximity to school. I think they inform you about March/April time iirc. That's the procedure here in Kent anyway, if it's the same where you are, so as long as you've registered an interest by about Sept 2011 you should be ok. Or was Ryan born in Aug like Liam, in which case it would be 2010.

Canmum - cdiff is the bug that has been in the news. I'm trying VERY hard not to think about the 90 patients that died of it in my local hospital. The same hospital Liam was born in, where I work, and where I was admitted a few weeks ago. I don't know if that's definately what I've had yet, but I tell you, it's not been very nice at all. But I think I'm recovering now. Apparently its a reaction to all the abs I've had.

amyclaramum · 29/11/2007 21:08

Hi Everyone !
Sorry haven't been around - had a bad week with DH away and too much going on with the DDs at school etc. Feeling really tired and a bit crappy /depressed .

Anyway poor you kinki - hope you are feeling better soon!

plp and chatty - nice to hear you had a good meetup - lol about your DH's getting worried about you meeting up with someone you met on the internet !!

dal21 - don't worry about schools yet - maybe nursery schools as they do have waiting lists - don't laugh I have put Eloise's name down for the nursery next to the DD's school !!

Eloise is not happy today - she keeps feeding for a few seconds and then screaming blue murder ! What is wrong with her ?! Anyway finally got her to sleep nad eating dinner now. (Dh away again tonight !)

Hope everyone else ok and have lovely weekends lol xx

dal21 · 30/11/2007 07:54

morning all

mrsf-thanks very much for replying to my question. appreciate the honesty - makes total sense to me! hope you had a fab time with the girls at dinner!

amyclaramum - ryan has started to do the exact same thing when on the breast. whereas before he was content to stay on for ages, it can sometimes be an effort getting him to stay on now! sometimes it is wind, sometimes i think he has had enough (at one feed yesterday he only stayed on for 5 mins. i half expected him to want another feed an hour later - but he went his normal 3 hours happily). one thing i have noticed is that he gets more restless when i am not paying attention to him.

well dh has the day off - so we are going to spend a nice day out and about. have fab days all.

kelmcd · 30/11/2007 10:48

hi all!
i am having the same problem with Arben re feeding, any body would think i was poisoning him with the way he screams when i put boob in mouth glad to hear i'm not alone on that one!
He had his second jabs yesterday and was very grizzly all day but slept ok-ish last night
Dal - i'm also with you on the attention paying, he is requiring alot at the moment and starts to grizzle if i'm not talking or playing with him :O

canadianmum · 30/11/2007 12:02

Anna was the same re: screaming on the breast. She was like that for a few days, only fed well when really sleepy. Then she just stopped doing it, although I get the occasional scream when she has had enough. Sorry, can't give advice other than to wait it out.

Dal, not sure what you are planning re: schools but here's my experience. Being foreign I didn't really understand the system (still don't! ) but I bought the Good Schools guide when my boys were 3 months and basically carpet bombed the "good" local independents with registrations. One school secretary told me that she had had phone calls from maternity wards and that 4 mths old was not too early at all to be calling . There is usually a fee to register for the independents unfortunately. For the local "good" state schools I was told to call back when they were 2 years old. I found it very difficult to picture what type of school would be best for my boys based on their personalities at 4 months!! In the end we got a much wanted place at a local independent school that I had registered them at when they were 1 year. It was first-come first-served and I know lots who didn't get a place so I was glad I had got organised early. If you are planning to live there for a while it can't hurt to get Ryan's name down at a few places. Just my 2p!!

amyclaramum - hope you are having a better day today!!

amyclaramum · 30/11/2007 14:26

thank you dal, kelmcd and canadianmum - glad its not just eloise !! She is much better today and i am having a better day as a consequence!! I have been to the hairdresser and had hilites and eloise was such a good girl - only cried as we were leaving !
sorry one handed typing ! love to you all xx

MrsMar · 30/11/2007 23:06

Hello everyone... well we seemed to have a turned a corner (dare I say so? I'm probably jinxing myself here!) but for the past few nights Luca has gone to sleep at 7.30pm ish, and it's only taken me a few minutes of gently stroking his forehead and sssshhhing. We've had some lovely quiet evenings with quite civilised dinners. I'm still giving him a dream feed at 11pm and he goes through to about 5.30/6am. Last night was a bit of a blip cos he woke up at 4.30 for his feed, but things are definitely improving sleep wise!

I've been getting creative with my camera and I've uploaded some of the results, moody pictures of Luca... gotta think of presents for grandparents

dal - glad to hear things are getting better with ryan's night habits too. You are so organised about christmas, but then again, it sounds like you need to be ! I've only bought one present so far, the brain training game on Nintendo ds for my mum. I'm totally stuck as to what to get everyone else.

About schools - haven't given it a thought... I'm fairly sure we won't be living in the area in four years time so it isn't worth it. I'm probably burying my head in the sand a bit but I can't really get my head around getting worked up about that yet. My sister managed to get her daughter in to a highly sought after catholic primary school recently and she hadn't registered her at birth. Mind you, she is a regular church goer at the church next door to the school so I'm sure that helped. Having said all that though, I do live about 100 yds from one of the most highly rated primary schools in the borough and I know one of the teachers there, so perhaps I should have a chat with her !!

PLP - glad to hear your meet up with chatty went well. We should try and do a London one... I'd love to meet everyone face to face! I did LOL at your dh thinking you were having an affair!

Kinki - so sorry to hear you and Liam are so poorly. Luca's had his first cold and tummy bug too, maybe there's something around. He's passed it on to us as well. It's horrid isn't it? I hope the tummy upset turns out to not be c.diff... sounds scary to me. I've been on antib's twice since my cs, and Luca had quite bad thrush as a result, I'm convinced my nips didn't fall off because I had two yakult's a day. I'm amazed I didn't get affected, and I'm sure it's the yakult and vast quantities of live yoghurt I ate. Take care of yourself and I hope you get better soon.

Hi edie, welcome back. Luca is still in his moses basket in our room at night. He takes his daytime naps in his own cot in his room usually. I'll put him in there at nighttime once he's out grown the moses basket, but I'm putting that off... I'll feel so sad when I don't have my baby next to me, even if his snoring is louder than his dad's sometimes!

chatty - sorry to hear about alex's weight gain. There's definitely a baby cold going round cos everyone I know with a baby says theirs has had it. Luca didn't gain anything in the week he had his, so I'm sure it's that and Alex's weight will pick up again soon.

toadstool - you poor thing, sounds like you're having a rotten time. Are you getting some physio or anything to help with your walking?

oops, just heard Luca waking up for his late feed, better dash. I hope everyone else is well.. take care xx

emalushka · 30/11/2007 23:39

Oh my goodness. It has taken me almost 3 months to realise that there was a post natal group. I had my daughter on 14th september, called Beth.
My life would have probably been so much easier if I'd have known! It might take me a while to catch up.

MrsFish · 01/12/2007 10:51

Oooo, Mrs Mar he IS beautiful I've added a few of Ben too

MrsFish · 01/12/2007 11:00

Ben had his best night so far, a feed at 6.30pm then he slept till 3.30am didn't capitalise on the sleep though as Sam woke at 12.30 having thrown up all over himself and his bed changed it all, cleaned him up, settled him off which took till 1.30am and bless him he did it all again poor thing, finally got to bed at 2.30am before waking again to feed Ben.. Not sure what the matter was with Sam but he is as right as rain this morning.

Just need put Ben's last feed off a bit till about 10pm now and he should go through till 7am I tried a dreamfeed the night before, feeding him at 11.30pm a.nd he went till 7am but it was a very unsettled time between so I didn't get much sleep. He definitely sleeps better the first part of the night from 6.30pm onwards

MrsMar · 01/12/2007 11:07

Aw, mrsF he's gorgeous!! I've got one of those flower nest thingys too... they're really cute aren't they? Luca loves his!

Santasmissyontheside · 01/12/2007 11:12

kelmcd · 01/12/2007 12:04

Good MOrning ladies
Sounds like everyone is starting to turn a bit of a corner re: sleeping, we also had our best night last night too. Arben slept from midnight til 7am pretty sure it was a one off as he had been quite unsettled following his injections on thursday but fingers crossed its the start of something beautiful We are all very clever at producing such good looking kids aren't we i've added some new pics too, i particularly like his passport photo, very chubbly

MrsFish · 01/12/2007 12:17

What a fab passport photo

Sam looked well funny on his, as he had odd hair, it was like a combover but it looked like it had been added as an afterthought, very strange
