Sorry to butt into the conversation but I thought I'd add my tuppence. We do a combination really and since Cerys is getting bigger she seems to be responding naturally. She feeds about every three to four hours in the day apart from a long sleep that tends to fall inbetween 11 and 1 or 2 where I let her sleep till she wakes up (depending on what we're doing). When we go to Southampton though, I control her feeds more because I know that she will get overtired and fall asleep on the bottle if I don't get the milk in her when I can. At night however, she sleeps from about 8 or 9pm and I wake her at midnight as I go to bed for a feed. She has that feed pretty much in her sleep and goes straight back down again until 6 or 7am. The other night, I thought I'd see how long she would go on her own - she had last fed at 9.30pm and she went through to 3.30am and even then she wasn't awake screaming, she was just stirring.

So, as twit says, just go with what works for you, there's no right or wrong, every baby is different and you know your lo's needs better than anybody else as well as what works best for you and your needs.

Thats my bit done!

Not much to report here apart from Cerys weeing everywhere so we had to do a bag change and bath at 10pm - she had wee'd all over her hair, yuck!! Oh, and I went to that mother and baby group which was lovely - my friend (who happens to be my boss too) treated me to lunch at the local indian restaurant afterwards and Cerys slept through the whole time so I got to enjoy it properly too!

Oh, and I wore make-up today for the first time in four months!!! (I lost all my make-up at one of the hospitals and by the time I realised weeks later there was no trace of it). I've scraped together what I can out of the bottom of my make-up box but it looks like I'll be asking santa for Superdrug/Boots vouchers so I can get some decent brushes!!!

PurpleLostPrincess · 23/11/2007 09:14

Morning all!

Having waffled on last night, Cerys last fed at 10.30pm and slept through to 7am so I'll be trying to recreate that tonight!

Hope you're all doing well!?

kelmcd · 23/11/2007 12:35

Hey ho!!
Not much really to report on the Arben front, have had a lovely couple of days. Had a local mumsnet meet up on wednesday, 5 of us in all, had the whole of the pub to ourselves so there was plenty of room for mums, babies, pushchairs etc not sure why the pub was empty perhaps they were put off by the train of pushchairs
then yesterday spent the afternoon at my brother and sister in laws place. Was great as the looked after Arben whilst i did a little bit of shopping. It is lovely when we go there because we can just hand him over and sit and relax for the evening, his cousins adore him (see pics)
I think our nights are settling down, he is only up the once, around 3-5am, for a quickie 15min feed then back to sleep til 8am.
Hope you all have a restful and peaceful weekend xx

kelmcd · 23/11/2007 18:57

Do your hormones evr return to normal post baby?? Now i will be the first to admit to crying at a soap but i have just sat and sobbed at home and away, poor brad and sally i have completely lost it!!!

MrsFish · 23/11/2007 19:23

I shed a tear too

will they/won't they??

PurpleLostPrincess · 23/11/2007 20:06

I don't watch Home & Away but I do cry at the drop of a hat, especially at films but I'm like that whether I'm hormonal or not!

kelmcd · 23/11/2007 23:34

MrsFish - i was very naughty and watched the first chance episode over on five life i couldn't resist

dal21 · 24/11/2007 14:20

Hey everyone!

home and away? havent watched that for years! what is happening with brad and sally. Is sally still in it?

Have been at mums relaxing for last few days - little Ryan is starting to get better at nights. Still wakes around 1 for a feed, but at the moment settles pretty quickly. Goes to about 3.30 after his 10am feed til he needs feeding again. so getting there slowly but surely!

Havent read all the posts - but still enjoyed reading everyones responses to the game.

Hope everyone is doing good and having a fun (albeit FREZZING) weekend.

MrsMar · 24/11/2007 19:22

Hmmmm sitting here having a big glass of wine listening to Luca screaming in the other room. He's so tired he can't sleep or feed or do anything. Note to self, I must be firmer about insisting he takes naps during the day, everyone thinks I'm being very silly trying to keep to his routine of naps, but they don't have to listen to the screaming when he's so overtired he can't do anything. Spare me!!!

MrsBumblebee · 24/11/2007 20:01

Oh, I sympathise about the overtiredness, MrsM - Paul's just the same. Trouble is, I can't get him to take naps - only on me on the sofa, and even then very infrequently. Until we're close to bedtime, of course, when he zonks out...

I'm quite chuffed that we seem to have sorted night-time routine now, though. He's in bed by 7pm, so DH and I have a proper evening (though last night it was rather spoiled by the fact that the 'treat' pizza we'd ordered at 7pm turned up at 9.30pm ). Then I wake him at 10pm-ish for another feed, and he usually goes straight back to sleep. Last night he went through until 5.30am!

Hope everyone's surviving the cold. We took Paul to a Christmas fair today, and he saw Santa for the first time! Made him cry, but hey ho .

MrsFish · 25/11/2007 11:45

Hi all

Ben had a feed yesterday at 7pm, then slept till 2am, I fed him and put him back in his cot by 2.45am and he slept again till 7.45am, I'm well chuffed with that

Sam is finally almost well again, after nearly two weeks, hopefully things will get easier again and I can finally start exercising DH have decided on a plan of action regarding finding time to get on the cross trainer (as he needs to lose a few pound too) When he gets back from work at 6.30ish, I can go and do half an hour whilst he spends time with the boys, then I can come in and get dinner ready/boys to bed and he can go and do half an hour. This plan is set to start tomorrow, just need the willpower to keep it up now

Oops Ben is crying for a feed better go... then off to mil's for dinner, so I'll catch up later.

PurpleLostPrincess · 25/11/2007 13:15

Hi all,

Good for you MrsFish, thats great news! Hope the training goes well

MrsBumbleBee - bless him meeting father christmas, thats so sweet!

MrsMar - you're right, you know him best! Hope he settled down in the end!

Well, I think Cerys is having a growth spurt, is that a normal thing for 12 weeks? She is feeding every 2 hours or so in the day and is taking 4 to 5 ounces each feed which is loads for her! She's inbetween sizes of clothes too - the newborn stuff is now getting too tight but the 0-3 months is massive on her lol! I've been putting her in some of her outfits so she can wear them before she grows out of them - she looks soooo sweet!

Hope you're all having nice weekends xx

kyala · 26/11/2007 11:43

Morning all (just!), sorry I haven't been on lately, have been obsessed with the ball gown etc (it's like 7 months away but there's so much to focus on),

on the growth spurt PLP, Lucy's in the 0-3 month stuff already (and has been for a couple of weeks now, she's only 9 weeks old )
I definately remember it taking a bit longer with DD1 to get out of the NB size though so it would've been around about the 12 week mark with her. I guess every baby really is different!

Not really had a lot going on lately so not a lot to tell really, the girl's and I went for a walk up the hill the other day, got half way and my knee clicked so it was back down the hill and a good sit down for the rest of that afternoon, this afternoon I wont be walking uphill!

DH has been considerably more upbeat and has decided it's probably best to stick it out at work, until at least February (for the bonus) and see how it goes from there.

I'm pretty desperate for a decent job but there's not really a lot going round here except seasonal temp jobs (and I'm not exactly qualified to do anything). I've got my finger's crossed that a friend can get me a job at the local hospital, where they have a decent day care facility, and I wouldn't have to pay for travelling as it's just at the top of the hill (as long as my knee's alright lol)

Lucy had her first set of jabs on Thursday, she was Ok until the afternoon and then was really grumpy (had to feed her on the bus home to shut her up, that was interesting, she was in the sling so well covered but I think you could still tell what was going on what with all the snuffling and grunting! Bless my little piglet!). She was a bit grumpy the next day until she did a poo then she fell asleep and all was well again! Sometimes it's really simple with babies isn't it?! It's just hard trying to tell what the problem is.

Started my healthy eating plans at the end of last week, have had LOADS of fresh veggies and Miso soup and been very restrained when it comes to cakes etc (we only have them when going to IL's most of the time now, and even then I only had a cross bun, none of those choccy one's that were waved in front of me V proud of myself!)
DD1's helping me out as she's now preferring to have soup for her lunches, which is great cos she'll have second's if it's going! (At last she'll eat a proper meal for lunch)!

No plans for this coming week, no tot's group as the hall is being used for a play so I'm having some ladies over here for kid's to play and for us to gossip (and plan outfits for the ball) so that'll be nice, but it means that I'm missing out on the big walk so might have to do that in the afternoon for the sake of it, and the fresh air will knock the girl's out too so might get a good afternoon to myself!

Anywaho, rambling on now, hope you all had a good weekend and the babe's are behaving themselves!

Hi all!

Just returned from a lovely day in town. First time on tube with pram and bub - and it was fine. Have a new lease of life now that I have ventured onto the tube! Hoorah!
Sat in mamas and papas cafe on regents street for a good few hours - very relaxing place to spend a few hours.

Hope everyone is ok - seem to be coming on leaps and bounds with bubs. I seem to have had (some) success in dropping 1am feed - still not feeding at that time, but Ryan is still waking. But good news is that he is starting to be able to settle himself back to sleep and it is 3/4am before i feed him. Hope it is only a matter of weeks before he sleeps from the 10 feed right through to 4. Next challenge will be getting him to go to 5/6 - but will save that for after Christmas when he is more than 3 months old.

Cannot believe xmas is nearly here! 4 weeks today is Christmas eve! Yikes. Got my first christmas card in the post today...am such a kid this time of year. Cannot wait to get the tree up.

Hugs to all - hope everyone is doing ok.

Hello everyone

Dal you've got me worried about how disorganised i am! It's ds1's 3rd birthday in 2 weeks and then christmas very soon after that and i'm not ready for either. Haven't even sent out invitations for the party and that's a week on sunday!

All is well with us, not much to report. We are having more good days than bad and i'm very excited about meeting PLP tomorrow first time i'll be near the shops in ages but don't suppose i'll be getting any shopping done with the 2dc in tow and after all i'm there to meet PLP and cerys

sophus · 26/11/2007 21:23

went to london today as had meeting at bank about mum's will/estate. bank were fab, let linus lie on the floor playing, staff brought me cups of water when I bf him. he must have found it exhausting though as I put him in his cot at 8pm and he was sparko at 8.06.
DP away for 3 days on business. he's been out before but this is first extended time on my own. gives me time to think about mum on my own which I need.
but linus is coming on in leaps and bounds.
plays with his toys, picks things up, gurgles away at us, every day is something new. it really is an enchanting time.
love to all.

sophus - hope yesterday was ok for you. linus sounds as though he is an absolute joy.

re the xmas shopping - i dont just have xmas to contend with, but also have best friends birthday, mums birthday, dh's birthday and our wedding anniversary to contend with! all happen over the space of 10 days! if i dont get things sorted - everone ends up with rubbish pressies! plus have added complication of presents to granny and dad from ryan. . but am pleased (and tad smug) to say that all presents ordered and i can finally relax! heading to post office in a bit to send all cards and parcels...hoorah!

Hello all!

Well, we've had a lovely lovely day today! Really enjoyed meeting up with chattyhan and definitely looking forward to next time! (Hope I haven't scared her off - I exposed her to the purpleness of my world pmsl!) The boys are gorgeous and it was nice to chat and wander around the shops - something I haven't done for a very long time!

I've started buying a few bits for Christmas, especially on ebay - never realised how handy it could be! The tree is apparently going up at the weekend - DH is like a big kid and he likes to do it as naff and tacky as possible bless him.

sophus - so pleased that Linus was good for you while you sorted everything out. That must have been hard? Sounds like you need that time alone, hope you get everything you need from it xx

dal - oh my goodness - how many events!? I don't envy you at all, well done for being so organised, I wouldn't be!

Cerys's activity mat arrived today from her auntie and its a winnie the pooh one!!! She loves it and so far she has been chatting to eeyore and bashing tigger. Can't wait to see her do more!

Anyway, I fear if I write more, I'll wear out my explanation mark button lol...

Hi everyone, hope you and all the babies are doing well.

This is a depressing post I'm afraid. Liam and I have had colds. Liam doesn't need treatment, just time to get over it. He sounds awful when he coughs though. My cold went to my chest, so I had to have yet another course of antibiotics. But this time they have really upset my tummy. I've had the worse d&v. The doctor thinks it might be c-difficile, I should know for certain in a few days. I've now got yet more antibiotics to treat this. I'm really depressed about my imunity being so low. I'm picking up all these bugs, and then the treatment is causing me more problems. Before this year I was hardly ever ill, but its been nonstop this year. I'm beginning to wonder when will it ever end.

On a brighter note, just before Liam got poorly, he slept from 9pm - 7am! But he's been ill ever since and wanting feeding every 2-3 hours. But when he's better, you never know, he might do it again. He did that good night on the day of my birthday. What a little star!

dal21 · 28/11/2007 17:09

Hi!

Tumbleweed city again!

PLP - so glad you guys had fun yesterday. sounds as though it was just what the doc ordered!

Kink - so sorry to see you arent well again. dont really know what to suggest. have you considered going to a nutritionist who can maybe suggest some bespoke vitamins that may help to boost your immunity?

Well Ryan is coming on leaps and bounds. am nowhere near the rest of you on the sleeping front - but last night he didnt feed til just before 5 after his dreamfeed at 10....so we are getting there, slowly but surely. He wakes lots but I didnt need to go to him at all last night. He has started finding his thumb so I hear gurgles followed by furious sucking sounds....glorious! Long may it continue and I really hope I havent jinxed myself for tonight. Please no!

Hope everyone is ok - hugs to all mums and bubs.

Hi everyone. Don't know if any of you will remember me but I have not posted for ages.

Been reading through the posts and it sounds as though everyone is doing really well with their little ones.

Glad PLP and Chattyhan had a good time shopping although sorry to hear you are unwell again Kinki. I still am very thankful for the advice you gave me during my early days of BFing. As Dal pointed out, are there any supplements you have thought about taking?

Re: routine, we are pretty lucky in that Millie goes down at 10.30pm and wakes at 07.30am. Last night was the first night she spent in her own room which was strange. It was really good and we got to use our new BT monitor.

Did some Christmas shopping today-it's quite hard to but for babies our age isn't it? Bought a couple of bits from ELC which came to £30. Not going to spend anymore as she has loads of stuff already.

Who else is putting their LO's in their own room? Would love to hear what others are doing ...

MrsFish · 28/11/2007 17:43

Hi there

I haven't posted for a while either

Ben is now on 5 feeds in a 24 hour period. He is now regularly going 8 hours between his last feed in the evening at 7ish. His best time so far was a feed at 8.45pm and sleeping thru till 5.45am, he is 8 weeks old on friday. I put it down to the formula, Sam was having 8/9 b/feeds in 24 hours still at 5 months. He didn't start doing 12 hour sleeps till he was 6 mths old, so you are doing well Dal

Ben has been in a cot in his own room for 2 weeks now, he sleeps much better and so do I

MrsFish · 28/11/2007 17:44

Kinki - hope you are feeling better soon, its the last thing you need being so poorly with children to look after. hugs x

Hello everyone - not much time to catch up but went to clinic today and alex weighs the same as he did 3 weeks ago!
He's 10 1/2 wks and weighs 11.6 lb. The hv told me to eat cream cakes! and suggested i see GP. GP says he can't see any reason for it and best guess is he was worse affected by the cold we all had than i thought. Anyway he gave him the once over and said to have weekly weigh ins until he picks up!
