Kinki - fab news and about time it finally got sorted for you and the family and glad it means you can look forward to Christmas again. Thanks for the pillow link, it looks so comfy I might get one for Millie i think. Does Liam seem to settle to sleep better with it?

Purple - sending a virtual pillow for you to rest your weary head on, and virtual armchair, large glass of wine and mega bar of chocolate ((Hugs)). sounds like Cerys is doing really well with her feeding since the op and hope the painkillers are keeping her comfy.

Dal - much admiration for sticking with your routine and glad you have found what works for you, wishing you a peaceful night.

Amyclaramum - hope the colds clear up soon and your DD1 has fun at Brownies.

Chatty - hope the colds have cleared up at your house too.

Hi to everyone else, sorry skimming a bit as I know Millie will wake up any moment.

Had 8 week check and first jabs today and Millie was good as gold and smiled and cooed at the doctor who said three times what a beautiful baby she was and that she could see why I was so pleased with her - has made me all smiley and chuffed and fluffy for the rest of the day

The DTs were given a scooter each yesterday from some friends who had outgrown them and they have been wheeling all about the house in a very dangerous manner crashing into the furniture - Amy fell off and came to me very seriously and told me that she thought her leg was a bit loose after the fall and insisted we use a plaster to stop said leg falling off!

morning all!

Kinki, CONGRATS! I bet you are happy - what a relief and in good time for christmas too! well done for persevering, although sad that it took so much work from you. anyhows end results are what matters! Hoorah! Hope you had a celebratory drink last night!

Honey - welcome to the thread, how are you finding things? How is your 9 week old? Any challenges or is your LO a dream baby.

Hammer - lol at your DT's, very cute! and thanks for the support re. routine (i keep thinking most of you must think I am mad, but hey ho)

MrsB - fab news on the weight gain, you must be very relieved. and well done on the other too.

Canadianmum - I am the same, but have started to do something about it. Am going to a pushy mothers class today (and the weather is shaping up to be cold but dry and bright so hoorah!) and then tomorrow think i will pop along to the local bumps and babes coffee morning. If I start making some local mum friends, am sure life will become a lot more fun. But I have enjoyed resting at home with Ryan too it has to be said, am just ready to get out and about and rejoin the real world! gasp!

Well our nights are getting better, Ryan woke at 1.30 but went straight back down with no probs, then up again at 3 til about 3.45 when I fed him. I will get to 3/4 month stage and if he continues to wake, I will consider starting to give him formula for the night feed. I would rather not but am starting to look into implications of doing that when he is around 3/4 months. does anyone have any experience of doing that?

hugs to all! have great days.

Morning all, sorry haven't been able to catch up lately, I've actually been out of the house a bit the past week or so!

Welcome Honey, love your LO's name, hope you're doing well

Just thought I'd let you all know that things are going Ok with me, haven't been expressing as much as I was but haven't really needed to (the first lot that I expressed was lost, it stank, must've been something wrong with the freezer, but have got quite a bit frozen last time I expressed so if I have a need for it it's there!)

DH is doing better, although he's still determined that he needs to get another job, I think he may just be able to hang in until February, at least that's what I'm hoping as he'll probably get a nice bonus and it'll ease off the financial struggle that we're having.
The HV has given us more vouchers, this time for clothes as well as food, and I've found out that we can get free fruit and veg too as we're on HB, also, aparently, we might be able to get a voucher for a day a week for DD1 at a nursery, as respite (she's obviously very bored with me, playing up something chronic lately).

I've been in the process of making plans for a Masque ball in June, I'm hoping to get a bit of business from that but more excited at the prospect of going myself!
I've got my "date" sorted, (as it's really not DH's thing I'm going with a male friend), all I need to do now is decide what to wear?! Whether I should go for a HUUGE ball gown or something a bit smaller for ease of movement Not sure?!

Anywho, that's about it for now, might be back later!

Hello all,

Just popped in to share my good news - Cerys has put on a whopping 10 ounces since Sunday when we were discharged!!! She now weighs 8lbs and 14ozs (she was 8lbs at birth and she's now nearly 11 weeks old!). If she keeps going at this rate, she may even grow out of her newborn clothes soon! I'm so proud of her! She's been much more settled yesterday and today so I think the pain relief is helping loads - phew!

Such good news kinki on your maternity pay stuff, what a relief! I remember the anguish you went through when they mucked it all up.

Welcome back honey, hope all is going well!?

Hope you find something nice to wear kyala.

dal, you're doing great, hang on in there and do whatever works for you!

Hello to everybody else!

Thanks for your advice to rest, I've now got my dad doing the school run so I can go back to sleep when the kids have gone to school and I'm feeling a bit more human today (if thats possible!). Haven't had a drink since last Christmas so I might take your advice and have one this weekend I'm worried that it all might hit me and I'll end up balling my eyes out but that could be a good thing as I feel as if I need to have a good cry and get all this out of my system! We'll see... (in the meantime, I'm eating lots of chocolate! )!

fettleandbabyfettle · 15/11/2007 16:42

Fantastic news PLP - 10oz in a week is a great weight gain. So pleased for you both!

all well here - Toby had his first injections this morning and has been so smiley this afternoon - maybe he's drunk on calpol! Just hope it lasts, as we had a good evening/night last night and dont' want it to be one off!

Fighting DD for the computer so had better go!

Hope everyone else is doing well?

Hello everyone, remember me??? Sorry I haven't been on here for ages... "new mum gets no time to herself shock!!!" hehehe.

Things are going really well with me. I'm still not firmly enforcing any kind of routine but Luca has kind of settled in to one, with the occasional curve ball thrown in to keep me on my toes.

After my initial crisis, bfing is going really well. Luca is gaining on average 8-10oz a week, is now 10lb6oz after a record 12oz gain last week. He's gone from the 2nd centile on the growth charts to the 25th on breast feeding alone. I'm still expressing every morning to top him up in the evening, but it's no longer a struggle, I can get 4oz out in 20 mins on a good day. I did discover the truth in the old wives tale that a glass of wine a day boosts your milk supply hehehehe! That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

Luca's still not going through the night but he is down to one feed during the night, our last feed is usually around 11pm, I go to bed at midnight, have a 4am feed, back to bed by about 5am and then he doesn't wake up until about 9am, so I'm usually getting around 8 hours a night, albeit broken.

Poor little mite has a cold at the moment, he's really snotty, so I've got a humidifier with a few drops of eucalyptus oil in our room in a bid to try and unblock his nose.

I'm quite at those of you who've returned to [ahem] marital relations. Having had a cs I don't have any problems in the downstairs area (apart from tummy that was quite tender for a few weeks) but I'm just so GD busy, and then shattered in the evening when dh has usually got a twinkle in his eye. I've told him we'll have to make sure Luca has a nap one afternoon at the weekend!!

It's lovely to read everyone's doing so well, despite tiredness and stress. We're all doing brilliantly and must give ourselves a big pat on the back

Take care everyone, now I've got Luca to take proper naps in the afternoon (ie in his cot and not on my shoulder) I will try and get on more often to keep up to date.

xx

kyala · 16/11/2007 08:27

You're all going to hate me so much but Lucy slept for like 10 hours last night (scared the crap out of me when DH's alarm went of and I realised she hadn't woken me all night!)

Was expecting her to be saoked through and she wasn't, also expected her to be hard to wake (a friend's little boy had slept for 14 hours before her HV explained that she needed to wake him or he would slip into a coma state! Something to do with blood sugar levels, like when a diabetic goes into a coma. . . breath smells like pear drops if you need a clue in that situation!)

She's now determined not to go back to sleep though, she's just led there staring at me (awww she's so in love with her mummy )
I do realise that I've been exceptionally lucky (with both girls) and really feel for those who have troubles at nights (it's not like Lucy was an angel those first five weeks) and I hope your LO's get into a really set routine soon x

Anywho, I'm getting ready to go to my friends (yay! I get to slob on her massive sofa ) Have a good day guys!

Morning all, not time to catch up with everyone individually as I have my 6 week check at the docs soon...

Saw HV yesterday, Ben has put on another 11 ounces this week, he is now 12 pound 7 ounces On the 91st percentile for weight and 98th for height. That's my boy Also he had a feed at 8pm last night and then didn't wake till 2.30am, then again at 7am

I am soo excited today, going to see Take That tonight at the NEC,

Hope everyone else has a good day

kelmcd · 16/11/2007 13:30

Afternoon ladies abd babies
Well, we had a great night, for the first time Arben slept for 6 1/2hrs last night. We are both full of a coldso it was at the perfect time cos i feel quite ruff
Otherwise we are both doing well and really beginning to settle down and enjoying the time as he is really starting to interact alot more with us now, which of course is lovely
hope you are all well and if anyone else has the cold, my sympathies and tissues for you
Take care K and A xx

dal21 · 16/11/2007 16:40

kyala/ kelm - the holy grail of babies! starting to sleep through! what did you guys do? or not do?

My friends babies are starting to sleep through aswell (both formula fed) and 10 weeks of sleep deprivation are making a bottle of formula for the dreamfeed seem very very very tempting. have started a thread on bfeeding about it, but hope I can hold out and persevere with the bfeeding as there seems to be definitive answer that formula will make ryan sleep any better...

anyhows, got a nice weekend lined up - shopping, relaxing and brunches. have fab weekends all. hope your LO's behave!

OP posts:
kelmcd · 16/11/2007 16:47

TBH Dal i think it was a one off cant see that he will do it again any time soon, i think it was more to do with him having a cold! I do breast feed him but he has abottle of either ebm or formula at his 10.30 feed. And personally i dont find he sleeps any longer when he has a tummy full of formula rather tham breast milk

PurpleLostPrincess · 16/11/2007 22:13

Hello all, hope you get a repeat night of it kelmcd and hang in there dal xx

Can I just ask, does anybody know how old babies start to blow raspberries at? Cerys loves it when we blow raspberries at her and gives us a big smile. I swear she has been trying to do it herself as she has been poking out her tongue and concentrating really hard. It's quite entertaining and we're really looking forward to her sussing it out I can't remember for the life of me when DS and DD1 started doing it...

Have great weekends everybody!

PLP xxx

PurpleLostPrincess · 16/11/2007 22:16

MrsFish, hope the six week check went well - very of you seeing Take That, hope you had fun!

kyala - DD1 did that to me when she was three or four months old and frightened the life out of me - I remember it well! Really pleased for you!

MrsFish · 17/11/2007 00:58

Take That was FANTASTIC, just got back

sophus · 17/11/2007 07:31

my extremely clever baby just slept through for the first time. 7.30-7.00. hurrah. His extremely stoopid mother however has been awake since 2.30 wondering when he was going to wake up. sure it was a one off but it's a glimmer of the light at the end of the tunnel.
have fab w/ends everyone.

MrsMar · 17/11/2007 12:51

Hi Dal, I haven't checked out your post in the bfing thread yet but I've been warned against totally swapping the late feed for formula by a LLL counsellor. I was really tempted as I'd love to drop Luca's 4am feed, but the LLL woman said that by missing out a feed totally it will most definitely affect my milk supply. She said if I was desperate I could top up with formula, but I should try and avoid replacing it completely. I so know where you're coming from, Luca has never slept more than five hours, although the LLL woman said that counts as sleeping through. Hmmm not in my house it don't!! I'm still expressing in the morning and having no problems getting 4 oz out, so I'm not too desperate at the moment. Have you tried topping up with formula? Sorry I've been out of the loop so long I haven't kept up with what you've been doing. Of course, everyone's different, my sister started doing a ff for the 11pm feed and had no problems... Good luck xx

dal21 · 17/11/2007 15:18

Hi everyone - just made it back from Oxford Street, selfridges was PACKED. Said to DH that this was the last time we are venturing in on weekends before xmas.
Did most our christmas shopping tho and got my haircut whilst DH looked after Ryan.

MrsM - got some good advice on the bfeeding thread. It seems the whole sleeping through thing is unrelated to ff or bfeeding. Depends totally on the baby. I just need to get through the next few weeks. He is going til 3am now after the 10am feed that DH gives of EBM (takes between 5 - 6 fl.oz), but he does wake a few times between then and we have to resettle him - that is the tiring part!

Sophus - fab news on your LO sleeping through. How are you doing?

Hugs to all. Off to start sorting and wrapping pressies - if I dont start now, Christmas will be here before I know it and will be completely unorganised!

kelmcd · 19/11/2007 12:46

Afternoon all
Well i am having an awful day, feeling very teary and tired and lonely. Arben slept so badly last night was up every 1 1/2 to 2 hrs and very grizzly! He is also feeding so rubbish today, goes on for 5 mins then screams then throws up then smiles i just feel like crap DH is at work all day and i just feel like curling up in bed but obviously cant!
Sorry for down post but just needed to tell someone.
hope you all had good weekends

MrsMar · 19/11/2007 13:11

wow dal, I'm impressed at you being so organised about christmas. I'm going to be doing all my shopping online cos I can't face the shops!!

I've read the posts on your bfing thread, and it does seem you're right, you either have a baby who sleeps through or not. I guess we're destined not to get an unbroken nights sleep. Luca was pretty good last night though, I can't complain. After three terrible nights with him waking every two hours because of his cold, he slept from midnight to 5, we got back to bed at 6.15, he woke again at 8.15 and I just couldn't face getting up again so soon so I fed him while I was lying down in bed, we both fell back to sleep until 10am!!! Best thing I could have done because I've managed to catch up on the past few days lack of sleep. I hope you manage to catch up on some sleep soon. Take care xx

Sorry to hear you're having a rotten day kelmcd... Luca's been the same for days because of his cold. Feeding badly then throwing up and grinning at me through the puke. Are these babies crazy or what? I hope you manage to get your head down for a power snooze and today improves.

I'm sitting in waiting for the washing machine repair man, I was given a time of "somewhere between 8am and 5pm" Hmmmm!! Mind you, rotten day, so quite nice to hibernate with the heating up high and the telly on! Have a good day everyone xx

fettleandbabyfettle · 19/11/2007 14:50

Kelmcd - big hugs! It is normal to have days like this - and this yukky, cold weather won't be helping! I felt really low last week. Wish we were all nearer then we could meet up and have real-life coffee, cakes and gossips!

Hope you are curled up under a blanket having some yummy cuddles with Arben?

Big waves to everyone else - my sleepy Toby is finally awake and chatting, so better make the most of it, before he goes back to sleep!

Take care
xxx

dal21 · 19/11/2007 14:59

Hello!

Wowser - tumbleweed city! where is everyone?

Kelm - sorry you are feeling so tired. moan away - we all have terrible days. DH is out late on business tonight and away on business following 2 nights, so come Thurs I may be having another dire day!

MrsM - babies are mad - but i guess they look happy after bringing up feed cos their bellies are more settled, thats my theory anyways!
Re. the shopping - town is so close, its not that big a deal - few things left to get, but can get those online and at brent cross, so no need to venture near town again. although am sure I will be able to manage a mid week shopping trip.

Well I had an interesting weekend. Sat night decided to bin my attempts to scrap the 1am feed - it was taking longer to settle and resettle than it would have done to feed once and go back to bed. so sat night i fed ryan at 1.30. last night - resettled him at 1 and he didnt wake again til 3.30!!! Not complaining, but after days of pulling my hair out he finally did what I wanted him too. have come to the conclusion that my child is a very contrary little boy who will keep me on my toes.

roll on xmas I say when family is around to help and I will actually get to see DH as he has over 2 weeks off. hoorhah!

Hello everyone - hope you're all warm and dry! Just got soaked picking up ds1 from playgroup and glad to be back indoors all be it a little damp!

Dal - i had sleep issues with ds1 and on the date in the diary just after his first birthday when we were going to stop letting him have milk at night and battle to get him to sleep through he didn't wake! From then on he slept through!

We were all unwell last week with stinking colds but pleased to say feeling much better! Alex (9weeks) has been sleeping from approx 10pm until 5am with no stirring which i am amazed at and thoroughly enjoying!

MrsFish · 19/11/2007 18:18

Hello everyone.

Kelmcd - Hope you are feeling better tomorrow. It must be the time of year as loads of people are feeling crap

Sorry everyones lo's have been poorly. Touch wood Ben has been ok so far, but Ds1 Sam has been poorly since last monday. Started with throwing up, then a fever now a stinking cold and cough, and today both his eyes have totally gunked up he hasn't eaten much in a week and it breaks my heart that he has been so bad, he just looks so sorry for himself atm

OTOH Ben has been great, he is sleeping well, I only have to get up once during the night for a feed for the majority of the time. Last night he had a bottle at 8.30 and then slept till 3am, so well chuffed, hopefully tonight will be the same He is growing at a rate of knots though, out of a lot of his clothes already, they don't stay little for long do they

Well yesterday and today has been foul weather wise hasn't it, feeling a little housebound but don't want to venture outside in this.

Regards Xmas shopping mine is almost all done too, only a couple of things to get now. I even found out my Xmas cards today (I buy them in jan in the sales for the following year), think I may start writing them as I tend to send quite a few, also need to get photos of the boys printed to put inside them which all takes time and effort
