Fio,did you make the appointment for your check as I think I should have had mine at 6wks not sure if they were meant to contact me or me them?

Diddle ,Lukas was born on 8th Sept at RH.It was nice having a room to myself, but also missed meeting the other mums for dinner etc like at WORDSLEY ( where I had DS1),but was only in for 2 nights this time not 9 like before so not too bad.

kelmcd · 09/11/2007 13:13

what made him think you were a health visitor Fio?

yes he is, i usually start the bath etc when he won't let me comfort him out of his grumbling. Don't forget that he probably won't sleep through yet, you're just trying to teach him that night time = bath then bed and quiet.
I have been accused of being a freak already on mn this morning and I think that in this case I just got lucky

we had our 6-8 week check, but he wasn't weighed, i stupidly weighed myself though he's due his jabs next week so I'll get him weighed then. Did you get a letter to remind you to take him for his check? I didn't and ended up having an argument with the receptionist when I phoned to book when he was 7 weeks. [she told me it was supposed to be 6 weeks and I said it could actually be 6-8 weeks and luckily I knew they needed the check otherwise we'd have carried merrily on our way unaware of any problems that may have arisen]

Oh and as for the bleeding, I it had stopped by ds1's 8 week check and with babytwit it had stopped after about 3 weeks.

Will give it a go!
I had to make my appts for checks aswell and all the GP did was check my blood pressure and give a prescription for the pill! the health visitors really dont seem interested in us at all. Saw one at 5weeks and have'nt heard from them since. they appernetly see you at 8weeks aswell but nothing! Not that i mind, she wasn't that good anyway just told i was 8 times more likley to have a cot death cos Arben sleeps on his tummy no advice or tricks to help get him on his back, just negative stuff. Just what i needed!!!

kelmcd · 09/11/2007 13:27

Oh and i stopped bleeding at 3 weeks, had first period at 6weeks, bled again at 8 weeks, and now bleeding again, oh the joys. i gt used to having nothing whilst pg.

Twitmonster · 09/11/2007 13:33

some h/v's can be complete rzls. I was gently told that i had to keep dd with me AT ALL TIMES as she knew of a family whose baby had died in the space of 20 minutes of being left alone.
Luckily she wasn't my normal h/v and I moaned complained to my normal one about her.
I realise they have to tell us these things, but really, in that way?
would he sleep on his side? All of mine have preferred being on their side.

kelmcd · 09/11/2007 14:07

Sorry, another question! Does anyone elses LO's head alsways go to one side?? Arben's head is always kind of titled to the left and he doesn't put it on the right at all when he sitiing or lying I remember somebody else saying the same and that the OP was helping to sort it out, can anyone advise

Twitmonster · 09/11/2007 16:18

yes they all did that too, I just put them onto the other side [they lay sideways in bed] at times, and have apparently suffered no side effects. I suppose as long as he can move his head to the other side if he wants to then it's not much to worry about.

Twitmonster · 09/11/2007 16:19

have a good weekend all, see you soon

kinki · 09/11/2007 18:46

Kelm, that was probably me. Liam?s head was always turned to the left and tilted slightly upwards. It would hurt him if I turned him to the right or put him straight. He was beginning to develop a flattened area on the back of his head where he was always lying, but I think this is partly due to him being early and so having an even softer skull.

Meanwhile he was having colicky symptoms so I booked him into the osteopath for his colic having previously had good results with ds1&2. During his assessment I asked them to have a look at his head/neck. It turns out that they think that this might actually be causing his colic problems. They pointed out to me the ?side-bend? in his body caused by his twisted neck. I hadn?t really noticed this before, but sure enough when lying on his back he is shaped like a banana. This apparently puts pressure on particularly his diaphragm, but also his bowel and gullet, which in turn causes the symptoms I am reporting as colic ? difficulty in winding him, excess wind, bad pain as the wind travels through the bowel, excessive hiccups, being sick and positing a lot. So they feel if they fix his neck then the other problems should go away.

He has had 3 appts so far, and there has been an improvement. He can now turn to the right without pain and he will do so sometimes by his own volition, although he does still favour the left. The hiccups have gone and it is now much easier to bring his wind up. His pain and discomfort is mainly confined to the evenings now, whereas before it seemed pretty much constant. The sickness remains but then ds1 was a very sickly baby too, so I?m not too worried about that. And his side-bend is smaller now. We?ll be keeping up his appts as I really do think it is working. His gp has also booked him in for a series of massage appts. He's had a couple so far and he seems to enjoy it.

The osteopaths agree with dh?s hypothesis as to what has caused this. He reckons it was due to the cord being wrapped twice tightly around his neck, which was compounded by me losing my amniotic fluid about a week before he was born. This apparently would also explain why I had major decelerations on the foetal monitor, which led to my emergency section. It kind of all makes sense but who knows?

Incidentally, I have bought a pillow for Liam, which is supposed to minimise flattening of the head. I can?t remember where I saw it recommended ? it might have been on mn. Apparently all babies in Sweden use this pillow, and comes highly recommended by Swedish healthcare professionals. If you?re interested I?ll do a link to their website so you can read for yourself.

Sorry that was all so long and boring!

Mrs B ? I?m in Maidstone.

Hammer - am envious of your clever little girls on the potty. I'll try again in earnest next week I think.

Plp - still thinking of you and Cerys and the rest of the family. I hope she continues to be strong and recovers well. What a little star she is.

Thanks for the tips about my 'challenging' ds'. I'll keep at it. It's reassuring we're not the only ones going through this.

MrsFish · 09/11/2007 21:46

Sorry to those that have crap HV's mine is fabtastic, same one I had with Sam, I feel even luckier now.

kinki - glad to hear Liam's appt's are working out well, how are you feeling now?

Message from PLP - Cerys is recovering really well, she's allowed to feed on demand now which helps her to sleep, they are seeing the difference in her already in her breathing etc. They are hoping to be home by monday, and she thanks you all for the lovely messges

I'll apologise now for not catching up with everyone else individually, there seems to have been such a lot going on, its a bit daunting to try and catch up.

Well Ben is doing incredibly well, I had him weighed yesterday and he has put a pound on this week he is five weeks old today and weighs 11 pound 10 ounces and is on the 91st percentile, so as well as looking the spitting image of Sam he is following in his footsteps too. Here are two pictures of them, wearing the same babygro and approx the same age, I am amazed how alike they look, I wonder if they will stay this way?? Ben is the one on the left

picture one

picture two

His feeding is going well, we are down to 5 sometimes 6 feeds in 24 hours and 5-6 ounce bottles each feed. He is generally only waking once during the night at about 1-2am then again about 6am ish. I have had a week of the nursery runs and all seems to be working out well so far, so glad I didn't wait the full six weeks to drive, I would have gone out of my head Sam is still really good with him which is great. All in all I am having a generally positive experience this time round, although he doesn't settle very easily in the day between feeds, he won't just lie quietly when awake, he cries a fair bit, but the nights are pretty good so I can deal with it

Hope you all have a good weekend

kelmcd · 11/11/2007 10:51

Wow, a whole day with not one person postingthat has to be a first
Kinki - thanks for that info, i think i will take Arben to the GP and see what they think and also look into an osteopath.
We had a good night last night, after a battle of wills he was asleep by midnight and din't wake until 5am tho i think the fact he has a wee cold helped with the sleep! snotty nose a go-go
Well i hope you are all ok and enjoying your weekends, take care xx

MrsFish · 11/11/2007 11:23

Another text from PLP - Cerys is coming home today. Her heart is still a little bit swollen but they are sure it will go down in a week

kelmcd · 11/11/2007 11:30

Mrsfish - have you added your name on the mumsnet group on FB? i'm there if you want to add

Chattyhan · 11/11/2007 11:39

Hello all - glad mrs Fish updated you on plp - i've been texting every other day and they seem to be doing ok.

Alex is 8 wks today and is feeding every 2-3 hrs in the day and taking approx 3-4 oz per feed. He does go longer at night, i keep him downstairs with me until i go up (otherwise i'm up and down like a yo-yo)! I get him ready for bed when i get ds1 ready and put him in his sleeping bag and he usually is asleep from about 8.30 and feeds every 4-5 hrs until about 7am. We have no routine in the day mainly because no day is the same for me! Some days ds1 has playgp in the morning and others in the afternoon and i tend to be out quite a bit so it's not possible for alex to nap in bed. His feeds haven't really fallen into a pattern yet either and i'm just letting him feed and sleep when he wants! He tends to have 2-3 awake hrs in a day but otherwise is asleep! If he is whingy it's normally when we're having a quiet day at home - he's a little angel when we're out!

I've got a stiff neck which is driving me mad and really uncomfortable! Is there anything i can take/do to help? I'm bf so just been taking paracetamol but it's not helping at all xx

dal21 · 11/11/2007 16:09

Hi everyone

have skimmed posts...

twit - sounds as though you had a great day, despite efforts from IL's to be rude. sad that your LO heard their comments, really is not on!

Great news on cerys and plp!

Hope everyone who hasnt had a chance to post is doing ok.

Diddle - at 5 weeks, ryan was still feeding every 2/3 hours and then came the grizzly/ growth spurt stage which felt as though we were going backwards from weeks 6-8. It is around the 9 week mark that things are settling a tad. And make no mistake - I am managing to stretch the feeds out to 6/7 hours, but he is still waking 2/3 times at night.

He is waking at 1 (3 hours after dreamfeed to the minute) out of habit not hunger and then again around 4 ish where I try to stretch him to 5 to 5.30. Last night we tried the Baby whisperer 'wake to sleep' technique - woke him at midnight, he grizzled and cried slightly but went back to sleep after 5 mins. Then woke at 2.30 where the normal 'pick me up' battle ensued for 45 mins and he resettled, then wanted feeding at 4.30...
Fortunately was at mums, so i managed to get another good 7 hrs kip as she did all the battles with my LO. thank god for mums is all i can say!

The daytimes have also settled into a good routine, the last 3 days - wake time, feedtimes, bathtime and bedtime have all been at the same times every day....so hope it is only a matter of time before nighttimes fall into place too! Have no idean how you lovely ladies with more than one manage to get your LO's into line. I take my hats off to all of you!

Hugs to all, hope everyone is ok.

Hi all, hope you're all well. Lily is doing fine and starting to sleep a bit more at night, and I'm feeling a lot better since my stomach stopped looking quite so much like a deflated bag of porridge. If you see what I mean.
Still not much time to get on here and read everything, especially now DP is back at work. The computer is in the attic and I don't like bringing Lily up the stairs cos they're dodgy, so I only get to use the computer on DP's days off, which he doesn't get that many of.
Anyway, one day I might get caught up with everyone, but hope all the babies are well and happy.

canadianmum · 12/11/2007 09:41

I can't believe how big all your bubbas are!! And everyone I have talked to in RL recently seems to have had 9lb babies at birth. Anna was 9lbs10 at 6 weeks and that was a great weight gain from 6lbs13 at birth. She is just like my boys, 25th centile in weight and 75th in length - long and skinny .

Am feeling very guilty today, Anna woke at 4.30am, very unusual for her at the moment, and I realised she had kicked off her blankets and was really cold - bad mummy!!! Definitely will use sleeping bag tonight.

twit - sounds like an interesting day !!

kinki - wow, sounds like the co is really helping your lo, I hope it gets completely sorted soon. We had a couple of appts with a co and will have another one before Christmas but it is all pretty minor for us.

plp - best wishes to little cerys, great news!

dal - I haven't been able to do a routine in the day at all, but Anna is such a good sleeper at night that I am not too worried. Some days she practically sleeps all day, just rousing for feeds, and other days she is awake and very alert for hours. I am just going with the flow - such a nice feeling after the strict routines I had with the boys. My mantra is "never wake a sleeping baby" . I used to hate waking the boys to keep them on schedule, but it certainly did help them sleep through from 6-6 at 4 months. Who knows what Anna will be doing at 4 months . Good luck with your routine, sounds like you are doing really well.

(Anna is almost 8 weeks).
