No worries JBM - I was bkxer had bid 21 quid the day before & not got back, u were prepared to spend more than me so u deserve them.

loonylovegood · 19/09/2007 12:11

T, a maternity grant is £500 that you get supposedly to buy stuff for your baby. Anyone can apply for it, but you only get it if you get more than the basic amount of tax credits, so people on a low income. I don't think we are on a particularly low income, but they paid out!

ooooooh, exciting. Can't wait for it to arrive.

babyboo has just thrown up my recent offering all over herself and the sofa and is looking for more. why do they do that, it's bloody annoying.

Bumper....I shut DSs fingers in the car door when he was about 18 months old . I'd taken him out if the car and was annoyed with him as he kept trying to run away. I stood him next to the car, told him to stay where he was and then closed the door. It didn't close properly so I leant on it .....that was when he screamed. Luckily babies and small children have soft bones and I didn't break anything but boy did I feel bad. I had to run with him screaming into JS to get to the toilets to run it under cold water.

I hope the feeding goes well today.

daisyandbabybootoo · 19/09/2007 12:15

I got the maternity grant with DS as I was a single parent and on maximum tax credits (it was only £250 back then though)

TA...can't you say your DH has deserted you!

I didn't see TAs post....what's up?

justbeme · 19/09/2007 12:15

Glad yr still talkin 2 me then Tallulah!

L isnt normally a sicky baby and when she does possett it normally is just clear milk - but today shes bringing back little clots fairly often and boy does it smell of sick/stale milk - whys that do u think??

Jamantha · 19/09/2007 12:21

We just got the voucher this morning too Daisy Going to discuss tonight where to put it. Want her to have a reasonable amount when she is 18 so will add some to it, but not so much she can go too wild and fritter it foolishly! If we are able to put more aside for her, might put it trust until she's old enough to be sensible. How old will she be when she needs to pay for our nursing home? Can we put it in trust untilshe's that old?

TALLULAHBELLE · 19/09/2007 12:33

JBM - think the clotty stuff has just been in tummy longer. Nothing to worry about.

Don't know anything about tax credits. What are they? Not on low income until on mat leave but DH unemp to all intents & purposes.

daisyandbabybootoo · 19/09/2007 12:35

can you use it to buy child bonus bonds? We have some of those for DS....he is worth more than DH nd I put together at the moment.

daisyandbabybootoo · 19/09/2007 12:38

tallulah sounds like you may be entitled to stuff.....get claiming.

I hate the way that you have to ask for it. the inland revenue know exactly how much i earn....why do i have to tell them again and claim for things. It should be automatic ffs....but i suppose they rely on people not claiming to keep the money in the govt coffers for longer....b*.

annobal · 19/09/2007 12:39

Hi everyone, sorry not been around much. I'm currently endevouring to stay at home a bit more - esp as home is such a tip!

Don't know much about tax credits. When do you get your baby bonus? Do I have to do anything? I'm really lazy .

annobal · 19/09/2007 12:40

Doh - I mean baby bonds!

daisyandbabybootoo · 19/09/2007 12:50

annobal, the £250 voucher is sent to you automatically after you have claimed your child benefit. You have claimed child benefit haven't you? It can only be backdated for 3 months, and everyone is elligible.

Again.....wtf do you have to claim?....it should be bloody automatic when you register the birth.

daisyandbabybootoo · 19/09/2007 12:51

hello annobal btw ...you have been missed

Jamantha · 19/09/2007 12:56

I agree that child benefit claim should be automatic on registration, Daisy. Would also stop the need for the questions like "have you or anyone else claimed CB for this child?"

annobal · 19/09/2007 13:05

Hi Daisy, thanks . I do start to get withdrawl!

I love Charlie - he slept from 8pm to 6.30 last night - and then I go and reward him by taking him for his first injections

annobal · 19/09/2007 13:07

Am also in total agreement Daisy. Bloody bureaucrats...

riabutterflew · 19/09/2007 13:16

well done on your -1/2lb daisy.

i like WW (so far). have had delicious HOMEMADE cock-a-leekie soup for luch and we are having spag bol and mandarin trifle for tea. We hardly ever have real pudding. my carboot sale ww cookbook was the best £1 ever spent!!!

i agree re benefits etc, the system seems a bit better now (we have had many instances of claiming stuff in the past hat with dh falling apart and catering being crap) if the departments would just talk to each other it would be better. i would have thought it would be easier to spot fraud by sharing rather than getting new information for everything.

BadZelda · 19/09/2007 13:48

Well I just ended up taking them all to stay and play and crying my eyes out...had a total meltdown which isn't like me really...but it might mean the nursery (which is in the same building and one of the best ones round here) might take pity on me and make space for DD1....here's hoping. They were really sweet...guess they get semi-suicidal mums in there a lot. I too am a bit shocked that SIL asked me to take my niece 3rd day running...this is the same SIL that was in court a few months ago (she's split up with my brother) saying I couldn't see said niece because I'm too violent and unpredictable! Perhaps what shocks me most though is my mum's attitude...she was supposed to pop round yesterday but didn't 'because I don't want to have to deal with all the children' FFS! They are her three grandchildren! One of whome she has seen ONCE in the last 9 months! Words fail.
Anyway I feel better for my massive cry now...at least I can cope with the rest of the day.

annobal · 19/09/2007 13:51

BZ. Sorry you are having a crappy day.
Can you put on the tv to entertain the LOs and put your feet up?
I had a day like that yesterday and you're right - you do feel a lot better after a good cry.

Maybe SIL will return the favour?

daisyandbabybootoo · 19/09/2007 14:14

BZ, I second annobal. Stick a disney viseo on, get them some nice bowls of fruit and raisins to keep them happy, make youself a cuppa, feet up and enjoy. And some chocolate wouldn't go amiss either

....and tell your SIL that she owes you big time.

TALLULAHBELLE · 19/09/2007 14:45

What's the point of the pnd check? hv arrived asked me to underline answers to 10 qusts, took the sheet without even looking @ it & left. Aren't they meant to discuss - what if i'd put that i often have thoughts of harming myself - do they just file & forget????

daisyandbabybootoo · 19/09/2007 15:18

blardy HVs...(the lovely Derlor excepted of course ).

they are meant to add up your score, and i would assume that they would do it in front of you so that they could discuss it with you if you needed help. Did she not even ask how you felt?

you are ok though, T?

daisyandbabybootoo · 19/09/2007 15:22

babyboo is in an odd mood this afternoon. she isn't really feeding today...she gets on, sucks for a few minutes then mucks about. I've only felt the let down reflex kick in the once tima as well. I hope this is just a blip and she is just having an off day, otherwise can this affect my supply?

faylisa · 19/09/2007 15:24

Hi everyone

Big hugs to everyone who is feeling down

Well Legoland was a disaster - it was closed! Had to distract DD by a trip to Marlow to feed the swans, which was fun. We're probably going to attempt Legoland again tomorrow but the weather here is pooey so may not bother

We did have a lovely dinner out last night though while my parents had DD and DH's Aunt had DS - a child free night.... bliss!

BadZelda · 19/09/2007 15:26

I don't feel letdown every time daisy...derlor can probably correct, but I think round about 3-4 months babies' feeding patterns start to change and they're also likely to start getting more distracted and playful at feeding time?
