Thanks @Geegrl19. I got 2.5 hours sleep split into 4 individual kips in the end. I'm shattered.

It's beyond us why the tosser did it. Pubs were shut from 10pm, so a bit late to have been meandering home drunk. Attempted burglary is a possibility, but we're pretty sure it was a one off act of vandalism. We're fortunate that just the outer pane smashed. The inner pane had some privacy film on it, which kept that pane together. The glass is slightly dented, but completely intact, so we haven't had to fork out for an emergency glazier. It's galling though. We only had that pane replaced a couple of months ago, as the seal had blown. The house insurance excess is more than it will cost to replace it, so it's going to be entirely out of pocket. A single act of assholery on the part of a random stranger, and yet we the victims are the ones paying for it.

Hopefully your night has gone better. I hope mine will. Genuinely considering going to bed once Alice is down.

Geegrl19 · 31/10/2020 11:39

@dyra
That's frustrating you're out of pocket. Insurance excess is so much. Must have been scary for you. Hopefully you've caught up on some sleep now.

Tennis comp is back on here now so we were out nice and early. Spent the whole time shadowing Nate as he explored everywhere. He is also obsessed with dogs and kept going over to a pair that were tied up and then cracked it when I wouldn't let him touch them. I was knackered when I got home and we both had a sleep together in the afternoon.

Dyra · 01/11/2020 04:22

That sounds like you had a lovely day. Hopefully Nate's sleep was as good. Is he transitioning to one nap ok? How was his night?

For our part, we had an excellent night last night. Alice slept solidly from about 8pm-5.30am. She wasn't quite awake, but was whimpering loudly. I gave her a feed, put her back down at 6 and she slept another 3 hours!

Tonight however.... She went down at 9 (late nap and dinner) and slept until about 2.15. I needed the loo before dealing with her, so went downstairs. While in there, I heard a glassy tinkle. Finished up, went to the kitchen, and lo and behold, some utter prick has finished the job on my kitchen window.

This has now gone from a random act of vandalism, to feeling like we're being deliberately targeted. We're scared. Whoever has done this carried the half brick with them to do the job as well. There's nothing that matches the brick nearby. Certainly not near our house anyway. We just wish we knew why they've done this. Is it because of the noise of the bathroom renovations? Is it mistaken identity? Are they trying to intimidate us for some reason? Are they going to escalate? Either way, the police can't/won't do anything. As well as getting the window replaced, we're now having to invest in CCTV cameras as well. Just so we can feel safe and should this happen again the police might actually do something.

It's a fucking Sunday as well. So an emergency glazier will be even more expensive. DH and two of my siblings are trying to temporarily board up the window until we can get out to a DIY store later on.

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 01/11/2020 07:57

@Dyra Oh that sounds horrible. And incredibly stressful 😔 I'm so sorry!! How frustrating that the police can't do anything!! Good luck getting it all sorted!

We had a better night last night - she was only up twice instead of 7/8 times like the previous few nights! As my sister said, hopefully now she's finally getting some teeth and on the move she might start to sleep and ear better - just several months late 😂

Geegrl19 · 02/11/2020 10:53

Oh god @Dyra. That's nuts. I hope you're doing ok, how scary. Makes your mind go to so many places about why this would happen. Hopefully it's just something totally random and you can rest easy. I'd be really pissed off too.

One nap here going okish. He managed to sleep for and hour and fifteen today, waking at just after one (I can't get him to go down any later as he gets ratty) but then it's a loooooong time till bedtime. He desperately needed another nap but it was too late in the day. Think it was worse today as we're starting to have the odd warmer day. Got to 27 which isn't super hot, but when you're not used to it is horrible. I've come to the decision that I don't like summer. I'd happily live in autumn weather year round, lol.

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 07/11/2020 06:55

Oof this week has been draining. I'm glad to be at the end of it! How are you all doing? @Dyra have you managed to get the window fixed?

Dyra · 07/11/2020 23:42

Oh no @Littlehouseinthebigcity. Is Catherine not handling teething well? Poor babies. Such a crappy thing they have to go through.

Unfortunately, the window isn't fixed yet. DH and my siblings boarded it up Sunday morning, and the glazier will be in touch Monday to arrange an installation date. We've also put up security cameras and lights to hopefully deter any future assholes with similar ideas. Nothing else has happened, so we're cautiously optimistic it's over.

Sleep has continued being shit. Had another shout a few nights ago, followed by an emotional meltdown. I hate how badly I'm handling sleep deprivation of late. Just hope that when Alice goes back into her room (FX by Wednesday) she'll start sleeping better again.

Good to hear Nate is doing ok with one nap @Geegrl19. The transition period is a bit shit, but it passes fairly quickly. I'm with you on wanting to live in autumnal weather year round! The occasional hot day is nice, but not for weeks on end.

iano · 13/11/2020 10:42

Hope there hasn't been any further damage caused @Dyra ?

Fingers crossed sleep will improve soon.

We've had a few tough weeks due to DS2 having a random infection. Started as an ear infection, then cough, then high temperature. He seems better know but I'm knackered.

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 13/11/2020 11:33

@iano sorry to hear. That sounds tough!! Hope he stays on the mend!!
@Dyra I think a combination of a bit of a cold, teething and me just having too much on and therefore struggling more with life!! How you doing?

Dyra · 14/11/2020 21:23

None as of yet @iano. But I noticed the other day on my walk into town that a flat about 5-10 minutes away has a boarded up window. They're also on the public footpath, so I'm wondering if the same person smashed theirs. Might go check on Tuesday. Window is finally replaced at least. Got toughened glass, so it'll take more to shatter it. Sorry to hear about DS' illness. Hope he's much better now.

@Littlehouseinthebigcity We're doing ok ty. Alice still has a cough. 4-5 weeks in now. GP says it's all upper respiratory and congestion, so not much we can do. Had to get her a second Covid test to prove to nursery she's still lurgy negative. Which she is. Unfortunately, she's caught a different nasty virus from somewhere. High temp, vomiting and a runny cold to boot. Poor baby has been lethargic for the past two days, which is not like her at all. She perked up a bit this evening after a bath, and managed to keep down some dry toast, water, chicken dippers and mini waffles. Hoping she'll be ok tomorrow so can go to nursery on Monday.

KnobJockey · 25/11/2020 10:45

Hi guys, long time no speak 😊

Sorry to hear sleep is still evading lots of these babies. And those nursery colds are a bloody killer aren't they? Pretty sure Indie hasn't been well since August.

How have they grown up so quickly? I well and truly have a toddler now. Indies always been big anyway (10lb-er, currently about to go into 2-3 clothes) but she just seems to be learning a new skill every day at the minute, at peak cuteness but pushing boundaries obviously!

How's everyone finding it going back to work and settling into new routines?

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 25/11/2020 11:32

@KnobJockey Wow, she looks so grown up! Catherine still seems well and truly like a baby - she's in 12-18 clothes and not standing yet 🙈 Thinking I may have to get her referred to the physio, hyper mobility runs in my family so it could be worth getting that ruled out. She has a solid bum shuffle though! She's settled in at nursery now which is great, but still waking multiple times a night and starting her day between 4.30 and 5!

db92 · 26/11/2020 14:50

She does look so grown up 😊 and a real cutie.
E is still pretty dinky! Only just going into 12-18 months clothes. He's also pushing every boundary possible. Climbing everything, emptying every cupboard and lots of head shaking no when he's told not too.

Hows other babies talking going? We have no real words here at all. Not really even mama or dada. Not sure when to be concerned.

Agreed about the nursery colds! Antibiotics here last week and seems to have no my had a few good days before another bug. Never ending. Sleeps still up and down but slight improvements.

drumst1ck · 26/11/2020 16:47

@KnobJockey aww what a cutie!

Proper toddler here now as well although bang on average in the weight charts I think. She's taken to running the opposite direction from me when I ask for something back and I'm getting a lot of sass these days!! We have one word other than mama and dada which is 'more' and honestly I wish she had never learnt it. It's all I hear all day. 'MOOOREEEE MAMA, MOOOOOOOREEEE' Hmm

Dyra · 26/11/2020 23:17

Oh wow. Indie is looking very cute. Love the rainbow cardigan! (I wonder if they do them in adult sizes.... For a "friend"...)

As for us, Alice was not ok on the Monday in the end. Fortunately DH was taking annual leave that day anyway, so I didn't have to. It was a bit a shock to the system for him to be looking after a poorly wee one all day. She's much better now, though still a bit congested.

Otherwise, tooth number 5 recently made its appearance. Tooth 6 is starting to poke through. Still waking at least once in the night, and only feeding to sleep. Getting more and more steps, but still needs something to pull up from to stand. No words here either @db92. Occasional mamama and dadada, but we think it's babbling rather than directed at us. We never had our 12 month review in the end, but from reading up around it, they won't make any referral regarding speech delay until 2 years old, so plenty of time yet.

KnobJockey · 27/11/2020 21:35

There's always something to worry about, isn't there? Speech, not walking, teeth. For us it's the weight/ size of her. She doesn't eat excessively or badly, she would happily forgoe most food to have milk instead, but she's just big. And there's always the worry that she's going to be overweight growing up, or people think we overfeed her.

Speech wise, we very rarely have mum, but we have dad, big sisters name, had nighnight once, fair bit of babbling, quacking whenever a duck is anywhere. But she's started this week to associate names with things- we asked her where her dinosaur was and she walked over to it pointing and picked it up, first time she's done that and it was very cute 😊

Hope the poorly babies are feeling better by now! @Dyra that cardi is from Next, and if it would fit me I'd have it! It's the most handy cardi in the drawer, goes with everything

Dyra · 27/11/2020 22:45

Oooooh. Ty @Knobjockey. I'll put that on my list of things to buy when we transition to 18-24 month stuff. According to my bathroom scales, Alice is pretty much bang on 50th centile for weight. No idea about height. I'm expecting Alice to outgrow her current stuff by March. Easter shopping spree? Fingers crossed. We surely won't still be in lockdown by then.

It's amazing what they understand, even if they can't communicate back properly yet. I love asking Alice where her squashy cat is, and watch her crawl off at top speed to smush her face into said squashy cat.

Anyone getting toddler kisses yet?

KnobJockey · 28/11/2020 12:05

Not really kisses, but the most lovely cuddles where she snuggles in to your shoulder, goes 'aawwwww' and occasionally pats your back 🥰

Geegrl19 · 29/11/2020 05:44

@knobjockey cuteness factor 100%.

@drumst1ck We have 'more' here too. It applies to everything and doesn't help narrow the request down. Mostly though is food orientated, the boy is a piglet.

He now has 8 teeth and has been biting me, ouch, not impressed. Want to nip that in the bud. Thank god I'm not feeding him anymore.

Don't want to jinx, but unless sick, most nights sleeping through to between 5 and 6 and then I put in bed with me cos there's no way I'm getting up at that time.

He is also obsessed with the tv, loves it. I always have it on for background noise, oops!

Hope you're all doing ok with the lockdown.

Geegrl19 · 29/11/2020 05:48

Taken with the most entertaining toy, the broom.

Check out how fashionable he is in his socks and sandals 🤣 insisted on having them on, lol

Dyra · 29/11/2020 20:15

Awwww mega cute. Rocking the look! Alice also watches way too much TV. I pretty much tell you the CBeebies day time schedule from 10am to 1pm, then 3 until 7 memorised. I think you can guess when her day time nap is....

I feel bad, but there's only so many times I can tolerate going to the park when it's as cold and damp as it has been of late. There's sod all else to do still, so, for my sanity, the TV goes on.

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 30/11/2020 07:28

@Dyra I wouldn't worry, I felt really guilty with dd1 because she spent so much time watching CBeebies (I had HG with C so wasn't up to doing much!) but she is now a lovely bright three year old!
C just loves Peppa pig! I try not to have it on all the time but we watch several hours in the morning cos she's waking at 5 and I'm not ready to do anything exciting at that time!!

Geegrl19 · 30/11/2020 11:49

Phew, not feeling so tv guilty now!

KnobJockey · 02/12/2020 12:56

TV pretty much always on here too. She dances energetically to most theme tunes, and does the wo oh oh oh oh from waffle doggy whenever we see a dog on the street.

Geegrl19 · 05/12/2020 23:57

Anyone's else's little darling turned into a whiny whingy little turd recently? Nate is doing my head in. It's constant. And don't get me started on the whole 'no' thing. I could scream at him and he wouldn't bat an eyelid. Seems like he has his big sis' temperament, god help me!
