1-1.5 in the am and then again for afternoon but sometimes he does only have one in the middle of the day for 2 hours ish.

Depends what he's been doing!

Dyra · 01/10/2020 23:29

That's pretty much identical to Alice @yevans. She has her nap immediately after lunch, so aboiut 1 ish. She starts getting grumpy about 5, so it's probably not enough sleep, but I can't get her to nap twice a day, or for longer than 90 minutes so.. shrug

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 02/10/2020 14:13

We're still very much on 2 naps here but I have always had sleepy babies. She has a 1-1.5 hr nap in the morning and then another hour ish in the afternoon. Still tired by bedtime so must be what she needs

Geegrl19 · 03/10/2020 08:05

Two naps here mostly, buy some days, like today, only one. Unfortunately nap length is only 45 minutes so he's going to be a hot mess by bedtime tonight.

Dyra · 03/10/2020 08:40

Urgh. So. Alice hasn't been very well recently. Started out as a cold, on Tuesday, but she developed a temperature on Wednesday. It fluctuated Thursday and Friday (she was virtually back to normal Friday, bar a snotty nose, so she did have her settling in hour, but by the evening her temperature was spiking again). But the nights.... JFC these past three nights... 111 thinks it's purely viral (I agree, but going into a fourth day with high temperature, I was starting to get worried) and has prescribed some paracetamol suppositories after I relayed the problems I have getting medicine into Alice. FX they help, Alice is well for Monday, and I get more than 90 minutes sleep in one go/over the entire night.

Hoping Nate isn't being cranky @Geegrl19.

Dyra · 03/10/2020 14:14

Update: Suppositories are so much easier to get into Alice than usual medicine. Didn't even notice it going in.... First time she's not slept on me for her nap in 3 days as well. Definitely getting the GP to prescribe more!

Horehound · 03/10/2020 22:43

@dyra oh what ashame. It sounds so much like Arthur but I do think his turned Into ear infections and got antibiotics. Bit yeh for sleeping he has ended up in bed with me, sleeping actually ON me for about a week and now he's a bit better I want him in his room bit he's become verrry clingy.

For giving medicine we just use syringes and also now I use a little baby cup and a straw and he just sooks it up and then I offer juice.

He had been on calpol and nurofen pretty much as per the maximum doses for both for a week....argh.

Hope she feels better soon!

Dyra · 04/10/2020 01:44

@Horehound Gawd it's awful when they're ill. I have nowhere safe to co-sleep, so I've been sitting up most of the nights with her, just so she gets some sleep. Honestly I've tried everything to get Alice to take medicine orally. Syringe, spoon, mixing it in with something tasty. In the end, the only way that worked, was wrapping her in a towel, gently holding her head between my arm and my body, and syringing a bit of medicine at a time. Even then, too much was still being spat out and it was just stressing us both out.

Alice has rarely been poorly before this, which is why I'm getting anxious about it. I've called 111 again this evening. She spiked a temperature before her next suppository was due, vomited spectacularly and she's developed a rash. I have a feeling the rash is MMR jab related (11 days on now), but at this point I just want someone who knows what they're doing to have a look at her and tell me that it's all ok.

Ha. I was just about to post this, when the doctor phoned back. Unfortunately they're not so keen on seeing us, but he did reassure me a good bit. It does help that Alice has had a good feed, and is sound asleep as well. She's due paracetamol soon, but her last temperature check was normal. Guess I'll just have to see what today brings. Looking highly likely she won't be having her first day at nursery on Monday though. Was so looking forward to that.

Geegrl19 · 04/10/2020 14:02

Oh @Dyra sorry to hear she's so poorly. It's awful when it drags on for days. Nates went on for days before the meds. I hope she turns a corner soon and is feeling better and that you are able to get some rest.

DustyDoorframes · 05/10/2020 12:40

How's it going @Dyra ? Thinking of you!

drumst1ck · 05/10/2020 15:10

@Dyra hope Alice is doing a little better!

Just had our jabs this morning and already got an extremely grumpy girl so preparing myself for a bad week I think...

drumst1ck · 05/10/2020 15:10

Oops apologies, previously yevans here!

Horehound · 06/10/2020 09:48

How are you doing @dyra?

Hope all ok now

Elk @drumst1ck hopefully it's short lived!

Arthur is almost back to normal. Been at nursery yesterday and he had fun :)
One issue with him being ill for so long is he woke up almost hourly for three weeks and what helped most was staying in our bed and waking feeding then sleeping again. Now he is better I don't want him to stay in the bed but he is still waking up so much in his cot that the only time I get a chunk of sleep is if he's in my bed. It's like he now hates his cot and can't sleep there. What do I do to resolve?!

Dyra · 06/10/2020 14:13

To get Alice accustomed to her cot, I played peekaboo. She'd stand in her cot, while I hid around a corner, and jumped out periodically to make her giggle. She loved that. I did it every day for 15-30 minutes.

You could also try sitting Arthur in the cot with a few toys while you sit next to him on the floor quietly playing through the bars. Or have a dance party! Maybe try some of the new born tricks (t-shirt that smells of you, warm the area he's going to sleep on with a hot water bottle before laying him down). Ofc it could just be (yet another, there's so many! T_T) sleep regression, and he'll go back to normal in his own time. Glad to hear he's all better now at least. I can't believe how long this week has been...

Thanks for thinking of me guys. 🥰 Last night, I was in the middle of writing a reply, saying that Alice was all better, she'd been to nursery, and had a great time, when she started crying on the monitor. She was spiking a temperature yet again, and was pretty inconsolable. It took: three hours, two raw nipples, a lost suppository, a found (in the foot of Alice's sleepsuit) suppository, and a tag team of parental cuddles for her to drift back off to sleep.

BUT! She did sleep for a solid 6 whole hours after that. Easily the longest stretch she's done in quite a while. She's definitely much less snotty now, and I have everything crossed that last night was the final gasp from this poxy virus. I've already requested a new suppository prescription so I'm ready for the next bout. She's in nursery again tomorrow, so hopefully she'll stay ok.

Hoping DD is bit more agreeable today @drumst1ck (great name!). Repeated application of chocolate buttons for the both of you is highly advised.

drumst1ck · 06/10/2020 16:59

Yay for Alice sleeping a good stretch for you @Dyra!!

DD has been a bit better today, but starting to really struggle with our local lockdown. As the weather is turning worse, a lot of my friends aren't wanting to meet outside now and a few aren't comfortable with soft play type places. I'm stuck in all day or wandering around the same parks on my own in the rain feeling so miserable for myself. It's been two months of local lockdown now and I'm very done! (Apologies, this is quite a moan and I know others have a lot worse to moan about!)

Dyra · 06/10/2020 20:33

Moan away! I'll be right here commiserating with you. Lockdown stank even when it was nice weather. Now it's just.... Urgh. I get exactly what you mean about the same four walls, the same walks, the same playgrounds. Especially as our LOs are still too small to take much enjoyment in it. Feels like it's been groundhog day for seven sodding months now.

Glad DD is feeling better at the very least. ❤️

drumst1ck · 06/10/2020 20:48

Thanks @Dyra. The hormones are definitely in action tonight, wept on the husband for most of the night since he got back from work, poor guy!

And big yes to groundhog day...I got so excited at our local park the other day because the crown green bowlers were out for us to watch...what has my life become...

Horehound · 09/10/2020 08:42

Arthur was ok for a few days although started teething again so still had some calpol. Then last night he couldn't breathe again and has another bastarding cold. Arghhhh wtf two days at nursery 🤦

Dyra · 09/10/2020 13:48

Oh no! Poor Arthur! Poor you @Horehound! It will end before too long, and you'll have good days again. He'll run out of teeth and nursery viruses eventually!

Alice is a bit better. Still waking and being unable to go back to sleep for a hour or two, but she's sleeping longer between wake ups which is nice. However, her cold has progressed into her chest, so now she has a cough... Exactly what we don't need right now. I'm back at work Monday, so she needs to be at nursery. I'm crossing everything that it clears up over the weekend.

How're you feeling today @drumst1ck? Hoping things are a bit brighter now.

Horehound · 09/10/2020 21:17

Oh god fingers crossed @dyra. Poor Alice :(

drumst1ck · 09/10/2020 23:07

Bit brighter here thanks! Met up with a couple friends in the park during a break in the rain which lifted the spirits a little!

Sorry to hear of poorly babies again. This time of year is a killer!

Dyra · 13/10/2020 10:32

First day of work under my belt. Could have gone a bit better, but that was more thanks to Alice. Little cow had an hour wake up between midnight and 1, then woke up at 4.30 and wouldn't go back to sleep.... Since I had to get ready at 5.30 to leave the house at 6 poor DH had to get up to look after her. Naturally she conked out the second I was out the house... Evening time, DH managed to get her to sleep, but she woke up after about an hour, and was still awake when I got in. So had to deal with that instead of eating my much longed for dinner.

Alice's cough is still around, but nursery weren't worried about it, thank goodness.

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 14/10/2020 07:26

We're still really struggling for sleep here. Makes me realise how easy dd1 was 🙈 Think we're going to have to night wean - she's waking multiple times a night and then up for the day at 5 and I am seriously struggling. Any tips!?

db92 · 14/10/2020 19:52

Glad your first day back wasn't too awful Dyra, was today any better?

I have zero tips little house I'm sorry! We don't get much sleep here either. E hasn't had a bottle in the night for about 6/7 months now and he still wakes up atleast twice and starts his day at 5-5.30

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 14/10/2020 20:50

Well it's good to know we're not alone at least! We had our jabs today. My dad was meant to be coming to look after dd1 and provide transport and instead ended up in hospital 🙈 Looks like he'll need gall bladder surgery so hopefully treatable but certainly not the day I had planned, and not news I coped very well with on 4 hours sleep!
