I'm glad you've had a slightly better day! Good to know he's on the up at least! Poor thing, I hope it doesn't last too much longer for all your sakes!

I do think babies and kids will be struggling to fight off things at the moment because it's been so long since their immune systems had to work this hard, I picked up a cold at DD's playgroup and it's taken me ages to shake it compared to normal!

Horehound · 29/09/2020 09:31

Yeh does seem bad. My mum was really bad with it. It's weird we've all had it affect us so differently. Mums was in her chest mine was throat and head, husband was nose mainly. Horrible.

I just really hope he's over it soon and that he doesn't pick up the next thing so soon. It's been a hell of a few weeks. We all need a good night's sleep.

Dyra · 29/09/2020 11:12

Oh dear. Poor Arthur! Poor you and DH too @Horehound! Certainly seems like at least you're all on the mend. Hopefully you'll all get a full night's sleep soon.

It's definitely the season for colds. We had our first settling in day yesterday. Of the other 6 babies there, 3 visibly had colds, and I'm pretty sure we've both caught one of them. Time to let the immune system take a good bashing!

How's your pregnancy going @yevans? I've (by chance!) seen your threads on your anaemia and your (idiot - ofc you can bf while pregnant...) GP. Hope things have gotten better with your iron levels.

yevans · 29/09/2020 11:42

@Dyra haha the GP one took off a bit! 😱 Pregnancy is going okay so far, iron tablets seem to have kicked in now which is great so I'm feeling way better than I did! First scan on Thursday so not long to go now! Terrified I'm going to go and they'll tell me it's twins 😂

Dyra · 29/09/2020 14:28

That's good. Glad you're feeling better. Keep knocking back the orange juice when you take the tablets. If you can tolerate it ofc! Wow... Thursday. 12 weeks has come around quick. Let us know how you get on.

DustyDoorframes · 29/09/2020 15:44

Thank you for the birthday wishes @Dyra ! And ooooh settling in! How's it going, bar the snot? My big one have brought coughs home from school and shared them with the whole household, se we had to troop off to get tested, but all clear thank goodness.
Oh wow 12 weeks already @yevans !!! So exciting!
Ouf, I managed to fall down the stairs in the night last night, carrying the baby (who of course is absolutely fine, but meant I crashed down hard on my arse) my back is killing me! 111 sent me up to a&e, so I've been thoroughly X-rayed, and all fine, but OWwwww! I am not looking forward to tonight- DD seems to be working on a few teeth at the moment, so basically wants to be latched on all night. I'm not looking forward to that with back-pain of doom...
Post-GD peeps- I just had my bloods taken for my annual diabetes test, and they ordered tons- the H1thingy, liver and kidney function, full blood count... And they want some pee in a pot too! is that normal?? Do I have the UK's most thorough GP??

Dyra · 29/09/2020 20:04

Oh gosh @DustyDoorframes! That must have given you a massive fright! So glad you and DD are both ok bar the back pain. Hope that disappears quickly.

Settling in went amazingly well. I knew I had a very social, independent baby, but she still astonished me at how fast she adapted. I was there the whole time, but she barely glanced back at me once she got past her initial misgivings and crawled away. The real test will be on Friday where I leave her at the door for her hour. Don't know who is going to cry more.... 🥺 I might keep her at this nursery. I think I've been unlucky with my visits beforehand and dealing with management. Seeing the staff actually interact with the babies while I was there, and seeing the changes they've made while they were in lockdown has dispelled many of my misgivings. I've got about 8 weeks before I need to make a decision anyway.

Horehound · 29/09/2020 20:52

Oh @yevans I so want you to be having twins!!!

@dyra that's great about the settling in session today, that'll put your mind at ease :)

Sorry you've hurt your back @DustyDoorframes..nothing worse so I hope it mends soon. Least baby was safe :)

I took Arthur to the Dr in the end today. Dr said on phone even if be has ear infection they don't give antibiotics. Well he looked in his ears then said "they are quite red actually" and said I will prescribe you some and leave it to you if you want to give them. Would I give them to my boy? Yes I would"
Hmm

Anyway we did take them and gave him his first dose already and he seems loads better already. He ate some of my mashed avocado and my husband had a pork pie he took a bite out of so he's deffo getting his appetite back. Phew

Geegrl19 · 30/09/2020 02:52

@horehound glad he's finally in the mend. He will make up for his lost appetite now, watch out!

@DustyDoorframes ouch. Glad you're ok and good job on saving the baby when you fell. You'll feel bruised for a bit.

@dyra reassuring about the settling in. Is lovely when you see them having fun and how much the staff care for the little ones.

@yevans oooh, twins, who knows! I was told 'do the crime, do the time'. Only ever been singletons much to my relief!

yevans · 30/09/2020 08:03

@Horehound ah so glad he's getting back to normal slowly!!

@Dyra glad she seemed to settle in well, how many settling sessions do you have all together?

It would most definitely be our own fault if we had twins, they do run in the family, I've popped out very quickly this time round and also been feeling movement for about two weeks now... But it could all just be my mind playing tricks on me!! 😂

Horehound · 30/09/2020 08:32

I think I spoke to soon 😭

DustyDoorframes · 30/09/2020 08:46

Oh no @Horehound ! Hopefully a blip?? Poor all of you!
@Geegrl19 snorted my tea at "do the crime...". @yevans we are all vicariously wishing twins on you! I'm out at 3 (and 40...) but oh those babes are just so gorgeous, surely there's room for another (or two...), they are only wee...
Yay settling @Dyra ! These lockdown babies, they are more resilient than we'd imagine!

Stroan · 30/09/2020 08:58

@dyra that's great news about the settling and the nursery. Hope it continues to go well. Our nursery hasn't had a great few years, big staff turnaround and some management issues but I know the baby room staff well. The supervisor is genuinely excited whenever DS has a good day.

@yevans I also stumbled on your BF thread and thought your GP was ridiculous. As were many of the posters on there! What is it about BF threads?

@horehound poor wee guy. Hope you have an ok day. It's so, so rough on them at the start of nursery with all the bugs plus their immune systems haven't been stretched during lockdown. I hope is is better soon. It's no help at all now, but my GP once told me it was better for them to catch everything young so they could handle the school gets a little bit better.

I started a new contracting job when DD started nursery and it was SO stressful. DH was able to pick up a lot of the slack but I felt terrible not being there fore her when she felt rubbish.

@DustyDoorframes I had my H1ABC thingamajig before lockdown. It was just a blood test so you have a very thorough GP! I know there's a big disparity in how they are handled though. Hope you are all clear.

I'm probably jinxing it by saying this, but we might have had a sleep breakthrough. He has slept through once and the last few nights has only had one feed (normally just as I go up to bed so I don't mind at all) - we think it is because we stopped putting him in a sleeping bag. Kicking myself that it might be something so obvious - he's a very wriggly sleeper and we think he was getting a bit tangled in the bag. Going to hunt out the cot duvet later, but I feel like a new woman with all the sleep I'm suddenly getting!

OP posts:
DustyDoorframes · 30/09/2020 09:24

@Stroan yay sleep!!!! But also- even if you HAVE jinxed it, nobody can take these good nights from you now, that's your sleep to keep! (Thinking about it that way round helps me, anyway, ymmv...)

Geegrl19 · 30/09/2020 09:41

@Horehound we've joined you in the antibiotic club. Nate been miserable for nearly a week. Had him at the docs three times in total (so hard when they're so small and you don't know what's wrong). First couple of times said just virus but his temp been up past couple days so now got the meds. I swear he's picked up after just one dose (imagining that I'm sure). Thank god for modern medicine. Doc said he should really have a covid test. I was like yeah, nah. Nobody else in the house sick.

Geegrl19 · 30/09/2020 09:47

@stroan yay to the sleep. You must feel amazing!

Dyra · 30/09/2020 12:05

@yevans I'll hold out hope for you! I believe most woman show and feel movements earlier, and are bigger with their second babies. So hopefully it's just that and not more than 1 in there!

It's just the two settling in days, 1 hour each. It's not enough, especially as Alice will be there for 9-10 hours twice a week. But thanks to Covid, it's all we're getting. Thank goodness it went so well on Monday.

@Horehound Poor Arthur. Hopefully this morning will be just a blip, and he'll continue feeling better from now on.

@Geegrl19 Oh no! Poor Nate. Hopefully the antibiotics do clear up whatever has been ailing him.

@Stroan Hurray! And long may it continue! We're solidly in a sleep regression. We've been awake since 5... Alice is taking forever to fall asleep, and keeps waking up the second her head hits her mattress. Last time we solved the issue (at 6 months old) by putting a fluffy blanket beneath her. But now she's so much wrigglier and sleeps on her tummy, it might not be a good idea. Might just have to ride this one out..... 🥱

Stroan · 30/09/2020 12:20

ugh @dyra hope it's over soon. We've never had good sleep here, partly because we didn't do enough to get him out of the feeding to sleep habit and partly because in the middle of the night, I just grab him and feed him lying down so I can also lie down! We've tried gradual retreat but he just stands up now. Anyway, nursery say he goes to sleep really easily there, so I have hope that we can break the feeding/rocking habit soon.

@Geegrl19 @DustyDoorframes the sleep is so good. But also, the time! Just being able to do stuff in the evening rather than sitting on my phone waiting to have to go upstairs to feed him is lovely. We painted the kitchen the other night and I made face masks, felt SO good to be productive. I'm starting a masters soon and was starting to panic over when I could squeeze it in between baby wrangling.

@Geegrl19 poor Nate, hope the magic antibiotics work fast.

Horehound · 30/09/2020 22:30

@stroan hope your sleep wasn't a jinx! Fingers crossed hehe
Lucky you! I so know what you mean with the new woman feeling. Months ago Arthur slept fully three nights in a row...omg it was amazing. No idea why and he hasn't done it since! Lol
I'm hoping when he's over this illness he will be weaned off night feedings.

@Geegrl19 sorry little Nate is also on antibiotics :( poor thing.

Horehound · 30/09/2020 22:31

Oh yeh and we stopped using sleeping bags a few months ago because o was scared he would whack himself on the cot trying to stand up in his bag. So he's just been using blankets and that's been fine really although he does wriggle them off sometimes so I do wonder if he sometimes wakes up cold but not sure about that yet.

yevans · 01/10/2020 11:02

One lovely healthy baby over here! Very relieved it's not twins!! 😂

Horehound · 01/10/2020 11:05

Yay @yevans that is great! Although I am sad it's not twins lol

Dyra · 01/10/2020 13:05

Yay @yevans! Any change to your due date? Any theories as to whether this is DD2 or DS? Grin Very relieved for you it wasn't twins!

yevans · 01/10/2020 13:39

Just a couple days earlier than we thought so beginning of April due date. No theories, think we will probably have a suprise actually! Won't be heartbroken if we see anything telling on a scan though haha!

yevans · 01/10/2020 19:14

Out of curiosity, how long do everyone's littles nap for during the day? We've just moved to one nap as she was really struggling going down for two and it's been much better. She sleeps for exactly 1.5hrs from midday. Just wondering if that's long enough as she always seems very tired and grumpy by the end of the day!
