It's weird. We don't have exactly the same restrictions but are no longer allowed visitors to our homes and we have to wear masks as of Monday. previously we were in what they call stage 3, which is what Melbourne is on now, where you're only allowed out for 4 reason, work, essentials, exercise and can't remember the other! They're talking harsher restrictions now though as the numbers not coming down in Melbourne areas. Bloody Rona!

Dyra · 02/08/2020 08:42

Happy August everyone! Happy birthday month to some of our small ones. Can you believe it? It's flown by, yet it feels that Alice has been in my life forever. So strange.

happydays00 · 02/08/2020 22:24

@Dyra all stocked up for the pox but I'll be getting him booked in for the vaccine 4-6 weeks after his next jabs. DS is 1 a week on Saturday 😩 I can't believe it! I feel really quite emotional about it, I think it's because we're fairly certain that's us done on the baby front (I'd like a third but DH isn't keen) and this has just been such a strange maternity leave!

Horehound · 03/08/2020 08:34

It has been a crazy year. I've not minded lockdown whilst on Matty leave actually. The only thing which I'd have changed would be Arthur seeing more babies
The year has flown in and it's just been great but I do feel sad certain parts are over and have gone so fast that you don't really take it in.
No wonder people have more kids!

THATbasicrebelBITCH · 03/08/2020 08:39

horehound has the baby bug!

Lockdown extended my maternity by 5 months so every cloud and all that

Horehound · 03/08/2020 09:20

Lol @THATbasicrebelBITCH yep! I'll probably go on to have at least one more. I do feel knackered and sore and I do worry about Arthur thinking he wasn't enough for us but I am loving him at this age. I deffo found the first few months completely overwhelming but I'm really enjoying it now :)

yevans · 03/08/2020 20:51

Talking of having more, the yevans family has another one on the way! DC2 due mid April so very early days still but quite excited/terrified! Any one else got any quite close together? There will be 17 months between them!

DustyDoorframes · 03/08/2020 21:11

Aaaaaaa @yevans I was just thinking someone MUST be up the duff by now! Huge congrats, you'll ace it!

Horehound · 03/08/2020 22:47

Way Hay @yevans!!
Huge congratulations to you! What lovely news.

I doubt we will conceive any time soon, I'm far too tired :p

Geegrl19 · 04/08/2020 00:27

Congrats @yevans such exciting news! Hope you're feeling ok

Dyra · 04/08/2020 01:40

Huge congratulations @yevans! Where/How did you find the time and energy? :P

I'm finding the opposite @Horehound. I enjoyed the early months, but finding it difficult now. It's entirely down to this f-ing pandemic.

yevans · 04/08/2020 07:25

Thanks everyone!! A little bit of queasiness with certain smells and lots of daytime naps are my only symptoms so far, waiting for the full blown nausea to set in... 😭

THATbasicrebelBITCH · 04/08/2020 07:42

Congrats yevans!

My oldest two are 16 months apart. Now 11 and 12.

yevans · 04/08/2020 08:30

@THATbasicrebelBITCH how did you cope? 😱 Things I'm most worried about are tandem feeding (pretty sure DD won't have weaned by then) and two in nappies!!

THATbasicrebelBITCH · 04/08/2020 08:42

2 in nappies was fine. I just did that again actually as dc4 wasn't toilet trained when dc5 was born.

I also don't breast feed so not had that issue either!

Tbh out of all my age gaps i think it is my preferred one

kyles101 · 04/08/2020 22:09

Congrats @yevans !!!

Horehound · 05/08/2020 09:31

My stress levels are high. Mum is round and she is trying to put Arthur to bed as she will be taking him two days a week. She's been up there 20 mins already and Arthur isn't happy

Dyra · 05/08/2020 10:51

Oh dear. He'll adapt I'm sure. He might not be a fan to begin with, but he'll settle eventually.

We've started transitioning to 1 nap. Alice is tired, but completely refusing any napping before 11am. Has done for the best part of a month now. Afternoon naps before 3pm (if at all) haven't happened for a while. She crashes out for a good 2+ hours when she does fall asleep at least.

Horehound · 05/08/2020 10:59

Wow @dyra that's crazy, she is hardcore!

For ages me and Arthur were sleeping in until 8 or 9 am and when I started putting him to bed earlier to wake up earlier he started waking up more times in the night and also extra early ready to start the day.
I wonder if we've been getting it wrong all these years and we should be getting up late morning so babies like a lie in!
Now we have done the earlier bed time for a while he is getting more used to it and he does like a nap about two hours after he wakes and he will sleep for 1.5-2hours usually. And a nap in the afternoon for around an hour. Sometimes a third nap as well.

My boy likes his sleep so I am really worried about changing to my mum and nursery for naps.
Sleep cures all and heals your body etc so I hope it doesn't have negative impacts.
Oh dear, I'm very precious about him arent I?!

iano · 05/08/2020 15:51

Congrats @yevans!

iano · 05/08/2020 15:54

He'll adapt @Horehound and nursery will tire him out so he may sleep well there.

Can I ask what people are doing/planning about milk when the little ones are at nursery/childminder. We've ebf but I want to introduce either formula or milk now so he's used to it when he starts at the CM. He's 1 beginning of September. Can I just go straight to cows milk or should I do formula?
I can't remember what I did with my first 🤣😬

Horehound · 05/08/2020 16:00

@iano I think we are going to do the same and we will just go straight to formula. No point using something replicating milk when you can just use milk.
Plus breastfeed at night and morning :)

DustyDoorframes · 05/08/2020 17:36

@horehound he might well go off to sleep for your mum much more easily if you are out of the house!

@yevans have you got Adventures in Tandem Breastfeeding? It's very reassuring! I didn't end up tamdeming, but the book made me feel like it would be very manageable.

Re milk after going back to work, I've gone back at about 9 months all three times (although. From home this time so it doesn't really count! And with the others I built up from half days over a month or so.). They've wanted nothing to do with expressed milk, and have been happy on solids with water from a cup, cow's milk from a cup after one, and have filled their boots from the source as soon as I've got home. I must admit I haven't even got a bottle for this one, as it was such a hiding to nothing with the other two.

kyles101 · 05/08/2020 20:43

@Horehound my boy sounds likes yours, at home he goes down for his first nap at around 8:30 and will usually go about 1.5 hours!! Up for 3 hours then down again for 1.5-2 hours. Bed at 7. Nursery naps haven't been great but finally starting to see progress after 4/5 weeks. On nursery days he just tends to go to bed earlier, just after 6 to make up for the lack of napping in the day. I read somewhere that that first nap was an extension of nighttime sleep when they're little.

Horehound · 11/08/2020 11:41

Hey everyone, how are you all?

Arthur has had the runs for the last three days. He's pooping 5+ times a day and at least once in the bath each day uft.
He also vommed all over me on Sunday just before we were going to a BBQ. So I guess he's picked up a bug but not sure how! He seems happy enough really. Bummer though because we were finally going to get an actual tour around his nursery tonight but I imagine they won't want us to come now.
He has his settling in days booked for next week eek! He will be in on his birthday!
Also I ordered his cake and the quote came back at £100...whoopsie. I'm just going with it. You only get one very first birthday hehe
