Another here who's planning a BBQ for birthday :)

DustyDoorframes · 26/07/2020 22:27

Oh lawks no birthday celebrations planned yet here! (It's not til late September to be fair). Third child, she'll be lucky to get a candle, poor soul!

Geegrl19 · 27/07/2020 06:32

@dustydoorframes lol, feeling that too! Would be happy to do something but we're only allowed a max of five extra people per household at any time. What are the rules there?

@littlehouseinthebigcity glad the boob easing for you, hope its all clear by now

As for anyone worried about getting to sleep at daycare, I was the same with Nate, but they get him to sleep fine. He doesn't have long naps (what a surprise) but is at least something.

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 27/07/2020 07:13

@DustyDoorframes She's only our second but I feel similarly. Have to plan something for DD1 cos she's so excited about her birthday, but a 1st birthday isn't quite the same - my worry is that DD1 will complain if we don't do anything for baby. Would your older ones be bothered?

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 27/07/2020 07:23

We do low key birthdays until primary school here. Cake, balloons, banners and presents at home. Some family call over. Thats about it. Honestly there is enough birthday stuff to organise in the primary years!

Dyra · 27/07/2020 08:05

An unexpected bonus of Alice having an early September birthday is that she'll turn 5 before reception year even starts (assuming they start a little later than the bulk of the school). Means no party planning until she's 6 at the earliest! I get to see how all the other parents do birthdays! Grin

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 27/07/2020 08:11

We are also within first week of September so no class party for us that year either UNLESS he attends the school nursery

Yeh think that's how we will do the majority of birthdays. I think I'd give Arthur one big birthday party whilst he's at primary bit doubt we'd do a party every year. What will be good is if we stay on this house he will have amazing pool parties when he's a but older. Maybe 10 onwards :)
THATscurryfungeBITCH · 27/07/2020 10:05

Yes i do think it is a good idea for them to realise early on that they can't have a big party every year! Especially if you are planning a few dc. We have tried to alternate it so just 2 dc are having a proper party each year.

Horehound · 27/07/2020 10:09

you are so funny @THATscurryfungeBITCH
Just the two parties a year lol
You are a superstar!

Stroan · 27/07/2020 13:53

When it comes to birthdays, I have zero chill. Mine is the week before Christmas and I didn't have a birthday party until I was 21. Even now, I can barely get a handful of people to celebrate. So I go a bit too far with the kids!

For DD, we just had family and friends over for her 1st and 2nd birthday. For her 3rd, we did a Jo jingles party with hungry Caterpillar themed food. Her 4th was at a turtle themed softplay (I'd said no big party but DH insisted when he found out they had a turtle mascot - she loves turtles). There's always a homemade ridiculous cake and banners and balloons. I love it!

I've ordered a balloon arch kit and balloon cake topper for DS. Started making his cake this week (I freeze it). I'm actually way behind but so excited for a summer birthday

I'm fully aware that it's unnecessary and a bit silly, but I love doing it all. DH just nods and smiles now.

All that said, I'm hoping to get away with alternate years for school parties. 25 kids is a lot.

@Littlehouseinthebigcity how are you feeling now?

@Stroan that's really tough re the sleep - does your DH take over at the weekends so you can at least have a lie in?

I think we're planning a garden party for some close friends for DS. Nothing too extra.

In other news - I think DS has chicken pox 😩 noticed a cluster of 3 red spots on the back of his neck this evening and 3 more on his inner thigh on the crease of his nappy. After the bath there was one more on his chest. No sign of a blister yet but half expecting him to be covered tomorrow morning (or when he inevitably wakes up restless in the middle of the night). My DD has the vaccine so very inexperienced when it comes to this. Any tips? I've purchased some camoline lotion, liquid piriton and pox clin to arrive tomorrow just incase!

DustyDoorframes · 27/07/2020 21:12

Oh no @happydays00 !! Fingers crossed it's just mild- my 4year old barely noticed it when she had it aged about 18months.
Re parties heaven protect us from the whole class party!! I do like parties but partly because I have lots of good friends with kids about the same age as my eldest. So he ends up with a party for (my) old friends and a separate after-school party for (his, crazed) school friends... both fairly low key though. Poor DC2 just gets one party, but starts school this year so might end up the same. And DC3, good luck to her poor thing. The big ones love planning it all!

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 28/07/2020 07:07

Oh dear happydays I hope he isnt too itchy! I have been told the younger they have it the milder it is. But then the milder it is apparently there is more chance of getting it again Hmm However, one of mine had it at 9 months and was absolutely COVERED from head to toe.

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 28/07/2020 10:09

I'm feeling a lot better thanks, boob still a bit tender but much better so think it must've been a blocked duct despite not being able to find it and keeping feeding must've cleared it! Keep feeling really nauseous though which is annoying - I think it must be tiredness but I keep panicking I'm pregnant 😂 I'm on the pill so really shouldn't be!
@happydays00 how is ds today? We have yet to face chicken pox here and I've never had it (but am immune) so no advice I'm afraid but hope it s a mild case!!

happydays00 · 28/07/2020 10:38

A very strange one as no more spots have appeared over night and also no blisters on the 8 spots he has 🤷‍♀️ have sent some photos to the doctors and they don't seem to think it's the pox so just have to watch and wait for another day or so I guess. Very bizarre as I can't think what else it will be.

@Littlehouseinthebigcity - is it worth taking a test? 😬

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 28/07/2020 10:45

Heat spots maybe?

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 29/07/2020 06:22

Morning all

Someone on here was looking at Linkimals for first birthday. I have just been on Argos looking for ideas myself and they do have some new linkimals out which might be worth a look!

Dyra · 29/07/2020 09:58

Hope DS has continued not developing spots and the ones he already had hasn't blistered.

Geegrl19 · 29/07/2020 11:47

@THATscurryfungeBITCH that was me looking for the linkimals. I can get some here but really wanted the sloth. Should've picked it up ages ago when they had it in store

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 29/07/2020 12:22

geegrl19 are you not in the UK

happydays00 · 29/07/2020 13:23

Pretty sure @Geegrl19 is in Australia?

Thanks @Dyra the spots appear to have almost gone and most definitely are not blistered. Think they are probably heat spots as they seem to be mainly in the fat creases where he's probably got a bit hot and sweaty. All that drama for a bit of chub rub 😂

Dyra · 29/07/2020 15:04

@happydays00 "Chub rub". Love it. Going to use that in the future I'm sure. 😂 Really glad DS is ok and none the worse for having scared you. At least you're all stocked up for when the pox does strike (FX not for a good long time).

Paddling pool weather tomorrow and Friday! Hopefully the water will get warm and stay warm.

Geegrl19 · 30/07/2020 13:31

@THATscurryfungeBITCH and @happydays00 yes, I'm in Australia

As of tomorrow no visitors allowed in our homes so definitely no birthday celebration here, well, apart from us that is

Dyra · 30/07/2020 20:08

Have they expanded the Melbourne lockdown to your area now @Geegrl19? That really sucks. Have measures increased from before? How long is it expected to last?
