Oh gosh - so Im still trying to get my head around reuseables and now Daisy drops another bombshell that the sizes dont all match up!!! ahhhh -

loonylovegood · 10/09/2007 22:16

It is a minefield JBM! My advice is stick with disposables, unless you want to end up with a serious addiction!

justbeme · 10/09/2007 22:26

I do want to try them though - God the weight of my rubbish bags (used to be singular pre baby!)
Although I cant quite get the idea straight in my head of putting pooey nappies in my washing machine and then in the next wash I put my clothes in - I think I need Aggie and whats her face to do a bacteria count on the bacteria lurkin in the washing machine of a "reuseable" household
Do you wash them at 60 degrees??

loonylovegood · 10/09/2007 22:32

Nope I wash at 40. I soak my nappies before washing. Wet ones just go straight in the bucket of nappy soak. I use paper liners which just go straight down the toilet with poo on, then I rinse the nappy in hot water to get rid of pooey residue and then pop it in the bucket to soak. When I have a bucket full they get rinsed and stuck in the machine at 40. So you don't actually get poo in your machine!

sputnik · 10/09/2007 22:33

With the poo issue, if you use flushable liners most of it goes on there and gets flushed away. if the liner is not pooey you can wash it with the nappy so you don't use that many. I do a rinse cycle first and usually wash them at 40/50 degrees and put napisan if there are a few pooey nappies in there.

daisyandbabybootoo · 10/09/2007 22:39

I don't soak before hand but I do rinse the poo off the nappies first then dry pail them with a few drops of tea tree oil. I use re-useable fleece liners as well. I usually do a rinse cycle first then wash at 40. I sometimes use napisan with the prewash, but recently have been using a few drops of tea tree oil in the conditioner drawer. BF baby poo is so liquid that surely it all just rinses away?

I have no qualms/concerns about bacteria in my washing machine as they are horribly smelly things anyway. In fact since I've been using cloth nappies and its on all the time, it isn't smelling half as bad as when it was only on two or three times a week.

So many different ways..thanks girlies!!
Right - am off for a glass of vino and then bed.
Night X

loonylovegood · 10/09/2007 22:42

I only soak because I am obsessed with my nappies staying pristinely white and unstained!

daisyandbabybootoo · 10/09/2007 22:44

a few hours on the line sorts that out holly. I was sceptical but the poo stains just disappear as if by magic

sputnik · 10/09/2007 22:45

there must be 50 ways to wash your nappies.....

loonylovegood · 10/09/2007 22:46

I know daisy, they come out of the washing machine orange and within a couple of hours are white again! How the hell does that work?

loonylovegood · 10/09/2007 22:48

Thanks for the invite daisy! Even more people suggesting cute nappies for me to buy, hooray!!

riabutterflew · 10/09/2007 22:50

I am sorry the resuable nappy thing is a blur to me. We do recycle our wine bottles though, and there are lots!

big to TA & JBM.

I have given up wanting to murder DH - have had glass of wine and am now indifferent! He is an arse and I don't care. He irritates me by doing FA, but -as it's a physical need - I can do more "harm" to him by not putting out! Sometimes I love being a girl...

(He asked for it - I took the boys to GPs so he could get on and catch up a bit on what he should have been doing whilst napping. When I got back he was watching Dr WHo. The he left me to do all three boys bath, and bed for the other two whilst feeding LO. Grrr. I know I will HAVE to do it like that when he goes back to work, and I am lucky - am I?- he is here just now, but as he is he should make himself useful).

I want to swap him for the actor Lloyd Owen...

riabutterflew · 10/09/2007 22:53

have you done a maintenance wash on your machine? when DH is working I do boil washes on his whites so that keeps mine clean (apart from the smell of cooking that his jackets produce).

What does the teatree oil do? Did you know it's good for removing bathroom mould?

daisyandbabybootoo · 10/09/2007 22:53

they go green first though how does that work then???

Ria, I think your DH has had his convalescence and needs to get off his arse and give you a hand. It sounds like you have two babies to look after!!

I'll swap my dp for anyone who doesn't sit around on his arse all weekend/evening and do fuck all except play golf and watch football! I don't even care if he's not very interesting or good looking!

sputnik · 10/09/2007 22:54

Amazing isn't it?

OMG, it's nearly midnight and I'm on the internet discussing poo stains with a couple of fellow loonies....

loonylovegood · 10/09/2007 22:56

Yes sputnik it is amazing! Although you are more of a loony than us, it's only 11 here!

daisyandbabybootoo · 10/09/2007 22:56

teatree is an antiseptic so kills the bacteria. It makes the nappy bucket not smell so rank either. it also helps take away the wee smell that can build up.

I do my towels on a boil wash every so often so that helps!

OP posts:
loonylovegood · 10/09/2007 22:58

I was going to get some lavender oil daisy. Apparently it is antiseptic as well and you can put a few drops in the fabric conditioner drawer when doing a nappy wash to make them smell nice!

sputnik · 10/09/2007 22:58

Daisy, YOU WATCH YOUR NAPPIES DRYING?

daisyandbabybootoo · 10/09/2007 22:58

My DH doesn't do sport at all holly

and he is better at domestic stuff than me...

he is ugly though and he smells

in his younger days he looked like Dr Green from er...not any more though

daisyandbabybootoo · 10/09/2007 23:02

what has my life become...i used to stay up all night drinking and smoking unsavoury substances...

...now I'm discussing washing nappies and the possible growth of bacteria in my washing machine.......
