Newborn support group anyone?

Anyone else want to join me for a bit of moral support?

DC3 was born on the 28th February (so pleased he wasn't born on the leap year day!)

He doesn't like being put down so I'm pretty exhausted. DH and I are taking turns to sit up with him at night but as I'm breastfeeding, I'm having to do more. I know it's not forever though.

Milk has just come in so I'm feeling pretty emotional at the moment. Again, I know it will pass!

I'm just about to attempt to put him down in the crib, wish me luck!

@CupCupGoose
Good to know it's not just my baby. Yesterday was better actually. No crying last night and he fed well.
My husband said the same thing about PND. I don't think I have it, I feel fine and know I'm being irrational. I'll keep an eye on it though. There's a history of MH issues in my family so I am always on the look out for signs. Hard though with the lockdown as it's not like anything if normal at the moment!

CupCupGoose · 16/04/2020 13:18

@babychange12 my tummy has gone back to original size but I still have it so I'm not sure if that it is related. On the NHS website, it tells you how to check yourself if you're worried. What is the mutu system? I've not heard of it before. How's your baby been in the evenings the last few days?

@hiimmumma I hope I didn't offend you by suggesting pnd. It sounds like your DH is looking out for the signs though which is good. How have things been the last few days?

Had anyone had sex yet? I'm absolutely terrified this time round, I don't know why! It's making me feel so anxious.

Baby today seems to have fallen asleep with minimal fuss thank goodness! I wore him in a sling from about 5pm to 6.30 then took him out to put to bed. So I think it must be over tired

Not had sex yet Blush would quite like to but I just stopped bleeding this week and I'm terrified it will hurt!

CupCupGoose · 16/04/2020 20:10

That's great! How long does he sleep for at night? I've got my DS in the sling now, walking around the kitchen. I think he's just about asleeo, I just hope it stays like that. He was crying for about 3 hours last night.

I stopped bleeding last week and feel fine down there, I don't really know what's stopping me!

I had the 6 week check yesterday combined with my LO 8 week vaccination. The doctor asked if I'd considered contraception @CupCupGoose. I said tbh I'm so frazzled with all this lockdown stuff that having sex is the last thing on my mind right now! I get both kids down to bed by 8pm, have dinner then I'm totally exhausted! We watch a bit of tv then I'm off to bed by 10pm. I'm not sure I can remember how to do it Grin

CupCupGoose · 16/04/2020 22:30

How did the vaccinations go? I had my 6 week check yesterday too. Going to the doctors surgery was so strange as the door was locked so you have to ring and then stay in your car until someone comes to get you. The doctor was the first person (apart from me, DH and dc1&2) that ds has seen in over a month! I do wonder, if this goes on for months, if it will affect our babies socially? I haven't explained that well but do you know what I mean?

I had sex after 5 weeks and 6 weeks the last two times. Ds is 7 weeks tomorrow, so I feel like I should have done it by now.

What do you all do with your babies in the evenings? Do you out them upstairs in the cot? Or have them downstairs with you?

@Ginny1234 here you go, hope all's well with you.

We're getting on ok, getting some long stretches at night which is great. I still haven't DTD and DD is 10 weeks - way later than with my first 2 but we're both just knackered and usually asleep by 9. I'm sure we'll get there soon but wrangling 3 kids at home all day is pretty exhausting. Not complaining though as I'm really relishing the family time (and my oldest DC is actually really helpful when I need the loo etc!).

LolaLollypop · 17/04/2020 10:11

@CupCupGoose vaccinations went fine. DS screamed the place down but to be expected. Just glad they're over with now! I gave him a few doses of Calpol just incase of fever and he had a bit of an upset tummy from rotavirus but he seems fine today.

I'm in a 2 bed flat so it's easier for me to put DS down in his crib but keep checking on him. I also have a monitor on him too. I give him a big feed at around 7pm and put him down in his crib. I'm quite lucky as he's happy to stay there and sleep. I done the same with my first from about 6 weeks and she's always been a good sleeper.

babychange12 · 17/04/2020 19:46

My toddler woke up halfway during a nap and started screaming the house down, waking baby up at the same time. It's so frustrating.

I'm finding it hard dealing with the toddler without the usual activities or playgroups to go to. Sometimes he's so demanding and really acts up, makes me so angry and I just feel like shouting at him!! Then I make myself remember it's an unsettling time and I try not to be so annoyed but my god he's testing my patience!!

Luckily tonight baby was fine going to bed, well he cried for about half an hour which is much better than before. Re your question, Cup - I leave him upstairs with the monitor on and he seems to last up there on his own up to about 10pm which is great. Then a feed and nappy change then he will sleep to 2am, feed, then wake up at 5-6, feed again and sometimes nappy change if it leaked

I'm finding the baby is a prolific breastfeeder Shock so different to my Toddler

lovesT · 17/04/2020 22:00

@Ginny1234 here is the newborn support group 😊

My little girl is 9 weeks old tomorrow which seems crazy! She had her first lot of vaccinations this week and we both had our checks at the same time. It was very strange to be pretty much the only ones there and the doctor wearing a mask etc .. I hated the vaccinations, I'm dreading the next ones ☹️ she really cried and when she's really upset she does the breathless crying and it takes a while to settle her even with boob!

She's still quite refluxy and will most days throw up one whole feed but I'm some ways we think she's improving a bit as it doesn't feel like it's all the time now and she seems to be better at holding it down. She does sometimes choke on some sick or mucous stuck in her throat which isn't nice ☹️ I've found that putting her on her side but tilted slightly backwards at night helps her sleep better. She cosleeps next to me and always ends up on her back later on but she definitely seems more comfortable that way!

@CupCupGoose I've definitely wondered how it will affect babies socially. My husband and I chat to her as much as possible and trying to keep her entertained but I do worry about it! We can only do our best with them ourselves and make sure we're chatting to them etc I guess 😊

I haven't dtd yet 😳 I feel fine and bleeding stopped a few weeks ago but I think we're both too tired! Plus I just don't fancy it really 🤷‍♀️ and my LG pretty much will only sleep on one of us or in our bed at night so maybe that won't happen for a while 😅

She is downstairs with us in the evenings as she will feed and fall asleep on me so we just watch telly with her there which is fine. Then o take her up to bed and feed her again if she wakes up but if not I go to bed too. She's not very good at being put down for a nap on her own!

Ginny1234 · 19/04/2020 10:29

Thanks for the tags ladies. Just skimmed through the last few posts and my main thing to comment on is DTD!! No f@£king way!! Apart from no sleep, constantly being covered in milky sick at various stages of going off, being on red alert 🚨 in case the baby stops breathing, cries, does a poo, suffocated under a blanket and the only just finished healing from internal tears and an episiotomy - the very last thing I want to do on my list of things to do is dtd.

Top of my list currently is leave the house and go for coffee and cake 🧁

Ginny1234 · 19/04/2020 10:34

...I forgot to mention my nipples 😩 omg so sore.

sunshinevalentine · 19/04/2020 22:22

Hi everyone, can I join? I had my little boy 2 weeks ago. It wasn't the birth I had planned, it ended with forceps and an episiotomy and I have been really struggling with the pain from the stitches but I'm (very) slowly getting there. He's so worth it, he's incredible and we're so in love with him 😍

sulkysukey · 20/04/2020 21:25

Just wondering if anyone else that's BFing is constantly hungry. Today I've eaten loads at mealtimes plus several portions of toast, 3 bags of crisps, 2 slices of cake and a few bits of cheese and chocolate. I'm like the very hungry caterpillar but sadly no hope of turning into a butterfly. Anyone else?! 😨

lovesT · 21/04/2020 01:17

@sulkysukey YES! Hungry all the time and don't really remember a time where I actually felt full. I snack a lot because I can't make it long between meals but haven't put on any weight so far 🤷‍♀️ I'm currently going dairy and soya free though as I seem to have developed an intolerance to it and have a feeling it's affecting my LG too .. so missing my chocolate biscuits and haven't eaten any of my Easter chocolate yet 😩

LolaLollypop · 21/04/2020 09:59

Welcome @sunshinevalentine! Hope you are recovering well after the birth.

@sulkysukey I'm also eating loads! But craving chocolate and naughty things. I dread to think how much I weigh! Although I've been a bit stressed running around after my toddler so I'm hoping that is counteracting the excess food lol.

Anyone else's little one seem sooo strong now?! When my LO is hungry and angry he tenses up so much and it's like an arm wrestle to get him into the BF position!

So lovely to see the extra movements now at 2 months old. He loves kicking his little legs around!

lovesT · 21/04/2020 10:32

@LolaLollypop @sulkysukey my midwife said that we burn 500 extra calories a day breastfeeding so make sure to eat biscuits - I took that as prescription 😄👍 there aren't many other times in life where we burn extra calories ..

@LolaLollypop yes my little girl is so strong now! She is 9 weeks old and when she's hungry and I'm sitting on the sofa with her on me she stretches her legs out so much it's like she's climbing on me 😄 she has such strong legs.

It's good to see everyone is doing well, remember when we were all uncomfortable and pregnant?!xx

nopun · 21/04/2020 20:04

@lovesT your LO sounds almost exactly like mine, especially with the not sleeping in the cot but only when held or when I'm lying next to her at night. Mine is almost 9 weeks. May I ask about your dairy intolerance? What made you go dairy free? I think I may have developed this too, with an often upset stomach and a baby with quite bad silent reflux (and some spit ups too).

We had the vaccinations at the weekend and my god my LO screamed for about 5 or 6 hours straight afterwards - he was basically inconsolable as his temperature climbed up. Luckily the fever only lasted just over 24 hours, and since then he's had some diarrhoea from the rotavirus one but hopefully that's getting better now too. How did everyone else get on? I'm kind of dreading having to do this again in 4 weeks...

lovesT · 22/04/2020 16:37

@nopun yeah she'll sleep in her sling or on one of us but not very well anywhere else! Although last night we decided to try and do a puzzle as she was a sleep so I was doing it one handed with her on my shoulder (as I do a lot of things now 😅) and I decided to try and put her down on the sofa right by us and she actually stayed asleep! She sleeps really well in our bed at night too. Maybe she's getting better so I'll maybe try putting her down in the day. I started to get uncomfortable after eating too much dairy a few weeks ago and have now realised it's also soy (I cut out all dairy for a week but it still happened - apparently soy is similar to cows milk protein so can do the same thing). Since cutting out both I don't get an uncomfortable tummy. I'm going to carry on for another week to see if it helps with her being sick at all and then might phase tiny bits back in and see what happens. I just want to eat all the Easter chocolate that's sitting in a bag 😩 it's worth trying though! Do you find it's affecting just you or baby too?

nopun · 22/04/2020 18:51

@lovesT sounds so much like mine! My back is paying the price for carrying my LO in the sling over over one shoulder all day and part of the night! We've made progress in that hell now sleep next to me in in my bed for periods, but basically needs to be cuddled and preferably kept upright for him to really sleep.

That's also where the dairy issue fits in: he's got really bad silent reflux - lots of gagging and bringing up milk, he also seems in pain most of the time (arching his back etc). I dont know whether that's because he's got a bad latch and swallows loads of air, or whether it's because of my fast let down and oversupply, or because of dairy issues - I think the symptoms are very similar. I have cut out cheese and most other dairy for a few weeks, but had a massive relapse by scoffing my older kid's Easter chocolate Blush

How was everyone after the vaccinations? It's been 5 days since ours and mine still has a bit of diarrhoea

lovesT · 23/04/2020 03:35

@nopun that's good that he'll sleep next to you, hopefully he'll get used to being put down eventually. My little girl likes to be upright too and is usually sick when she lies down flat. We have a bouncer and a play mat, she likes both but won't last long on the play mat but is quite happy in her bouncer for a long time! I got the play mat because apparently they shouldn't spend too long in the bouncer but she's so much happier upright!

I have a strong let down too and have to take her off when I feel it coming in and let it spray into a muslin before letting her go back on. I get so much milk I have to wear a cup to collect on the other boob otherwise I'd be soaked all the time! But it's worth a try with the dairy I think, even though it is difficult 😩 hope it gets better for you x

CupCupGoose · 23/04/2020 10:28

Thanks everyone for telling me about DTD. I feel a bit better now. I think I'm putting too much pressure on myself. I had a proper look down there for the first time since the birth and I think I have a prolapse Sad I can see a bulge, but I'm not realy sure what I'm looking at. I'm really worried. It's not like I can even see the gp and I've already had my 6 week check. I have no other symptoms though. Has anyone else had any problems?

DS has decided thay he won't go straight in the cot at night now. He has to sleep in my bed for about an hour before I can put him in the cot. I wouldn't really mind except it takes me hours of walking around my bedroom, rocking him and patting his bum before he will go to sleep, then i have to spend an hour lying in bed with him. If I do this early, it means I don't get an evening, but if I wait until I go to bed, I'm up until about 1am. It's not too bad now but DH is going back to work next week and I'll have to get up with the older dc.

On the bright side, he slept for 7 hours without waking last night! Woke up for a feed and slept for another 3 hours.

lovesT · 23/04/2020 11:40

@CupCupGoose I had my 6 weeks check last week and since then have also noticed a similar thing. I noticed because I could feel it a bit when I was in the shower and is similar to what you describe - a bit of a bulge/ lump that wasn't there before. The NHS website is quite reassuring 😊 there are different causes of prolapse depending on the organ and if it's not causing you any problems I think the advice is pretty much pelvic floor exercises! So I wouldn't worry too much unless it's causing you problems - then chat to your GP 😊 haves look on the NHS website about it and hopefully that will put your mind at ease.

That's great about your little one sleeping 7 hours! Think the longest my little girl has made it is about 6 hours which was amazing 😄.

Don't feel pressure to DTD .. I'm just enjoying time with my little girl and will think about that when it feels right 🤷‍♀️😊

lovesT · 23/04/2020 17:30

How are people doing with tummy time? I'm trying to do it when I remember but she doesn't really like it! She likes to be sitting up on me or in her bouncer. She can hold her head up and look around really well when she's sitting up but she doesn't like tummy time .. would be interested to know how other babies are doing!

jldy2020 · 23/04/2020 21:45

@lovesT My little one doesn't mind tummy time but often she'll just lie there and not move her head up, like she's too comfortable 🤨I've been trying to make it interesting with toys but it's hit and miss if she moves her head up properly that day.

She does hold her head up and look around lots when burping though!
