Ooh @kyles101 that's great re your hours!
Hah, @Megan2018 DC1 was like that, the few times he had a long nap I wouldn't have taken advantage as I kept thinking he'd be awake any second...
@Stroan that sounds gruelling re sleep!! V glad it's improving, and yours @Megan2018 . We are on a good run here, but DC2 keeps waking up wet in the night, ho hum.
DP has the lurg and retired to bed about lunchtime. I am not very patient and loving with being ill, which is very unfair as he is always brilliant with me.

THAT90sBITCH · 08/02/2020 02:43

I am having nappy issues if anyone can help www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3817190-Reusable-nappies-at-night

Dyra · 08/02/2020 10:11

Tbh no experience @THAT90sBITCH, but (from research) I would have said what PPs in the thread said. Either add a liner (the ones used in cloth nappies) to his nappy at night for extra absorbency. IMO you don't need to buy the cloth nappies as well to use the liners unless you want to do cloth nappies all the time. Alternatively you could use the plus variety of the nappy which have more absorbency than the regular variety. If there is one anyway.

Hooray for hours agreement @kyles101! GJ on the napping in the cot as well.

Glad your sleep is improving as well @Megan2018 and @Stroan (after the medication). Alice has very kindly granted me a 4-5 hour stretch the past two nights. I feel so much better for it. She's also learning self settling as well. I still feed to sleep, but when I go to put her in her basket, it's about a 50:50 chance her eyes will ping immediately open. So long as she stays quiet, I turn the night light off and get back into bed. With luck she drifts off. Without, she either sings us a happy song, or announces her extreme woe. Either way, it necessitates me getting back up to try again. Shushing and patting don't work.

I never know what to do with myself as well the few times Alice has remained asleep in her pram after we get in. I just know if I go to do something she'll wake up, so I do nothing. But it is amazing to have two hands free to do nothing with while she naps. Nearly ready to move her into her cot proper now. Same with the carry cot to pushchair. Will definitely have a cry when it's time for both.

happydays00 · 08/02/2020 10:11

@THAT90sBITCH have you tried any other disposables other than Pampers? I swear by Asda and Sainsbury's own brand. Can't really advise on the reusable nappies but could you try and reusable over a disposable ?

THAT90sBITCH · 08/02/2020 10:24

I have tried asda, tesco, boots and aldi! I may try a 4+ but it just feels hopeless atm Sad

Megan2018 · 08/02/2020 10:35

@THAT90sBITCH

I use a Totsbots Bamboozle nappy at night with a Motherease Sandys Bamboo booster and a Blueberry Capri wrap. I get 12hrs with no leaks and that’s with copious night feeds.

Stroan · 08/02/2020 12:37

@THAT90sBITCH we are still loving the premium Aldi ones. I have size 3s here, if you PM me your address I would be happy to post you a few to try?

That said, we change him when we go to bed at 10ish, so the longest they are on is probably 8/9 hours

PollyRoe16 · 08/02/2020 22:04

@THAT90sBITCH had exactly the same problem but also have a child that would scream in the middle of the night if you changed him 🤦🏼‍♀️, for a while the Lidl 4+ nappies we're doing the trick as they have extra absorbency than just the size 4's but now changed to the Pampers Premium nappies, has to be the ones that say 12 hours on the pack not up to 12 hours (apologies if those are the ones you mean you've tried!)

KnobJockey · 08/02/2020 23:51

We've found that nutmeg nappies from Morrisons suit us best. Indie wees lots, and these don't have those line things when wet, but are like the old school nappies were. It suits us better as she used to be soaking in the front and middle sections, and normal in the back, so it would leak out of the sides. Not a problem in these. £3 for 50ish, Indies prob about 21lb and fits in 4s well.

Myspiritan · 09/02/2020 08:02

Omg just spent the night at PIL’s and they’ve got a clock that dings the hour.... I don’t normally check the time in the night so I remain (not so) blissfully unaware of how little sleep I’m getting... not so easy with a bonging clock.... turns out I heard every hour apart from 11 and midnight..... this might explain my general spaced outness and general grump recently! Sorry I can’t help with nappies @THAT90sBITCH, I’ve alway found our reusable s leak at night even with boosters so we just use the Sainsbury’s own brand ones and haven’t had any issues.

THAT90sBITCH · 09/02/2020 08:07

I think i am going to try some pampers 4+ and pray for the best

I had only just moved him up to size 4 and am still using up some size 3s in the day which dont leak when used for only a few hours. He is a big baby but i dont think he needs any bigger than a 4

Is anyone elses baby on the verge of a proper army crawl?

Geegrl19 · 09/02/2020 09:09

Hi everyone. Just wondering, for those of you who fully bed share, how firm is your mattress? Nate likes to stir between 4/5am and won't resettle. I've been sitting up asleep with him on me but wondering about bed sharing from that time onwards just so I get some rest. My mattress is super old and has a bamboo topper on that is quite thick and soft compared to a baby mattress. Just wondering what everyone else had.

@Myspiritan you made me laugh re the clock checking. I'm an obsessive clock checker in the night and always have been for some reason.

kyles101 · 09/02/2020 15:22

Another vote for Sainsbury's own brand- we're just using up the last of the size 3s then he'll be onto 4s - we'll happily post you a few up to try if you like?

We've had a sleepy tired baby today lot's of snuggling on the sofa keeping out of the awful weather!

Megan2018 · 09/02/2020 15:37

@Geegrl19 mine is classed as Firm and its a pretty new pocket sprung. It used to have an expensive feather topper on but I took this off (which I miss!)

Megan2018 · 09/02/2020 15:38

@THAT90sBITCH have you seen this?

THAT90sBITCH · 09/02/2020 16:10

Oooo thank you for that megan!

And thanks to those offering to post me nappies to try, so kind!

I think i may order some of these booster things after reading megans link and also try pampers 4+!

Hope younger your nappy issue sorted @THAT90sBITCH.

Has anyone got any tips on how to start weaning? I have baby porridge which j was gkna use to get Arthur used to swallowing etc and different tastes and textures etc but I'm not sure if there's certain ways to go about it.
Also for baby led, do you literally just steam some veg and put it in front if them and hope for the best?

THAT90sBITCH · 09/02/2020 20:33

I have used porridge first with my older dc and then progressed to blended veggies plus giving bits off my plate and easy finger foods such as toast from 6months

Stroan · 09/02/2020 21:58

@horehound we weaned DD a little early so started with purees then moved onto finger foods (toast, steamed sticks of veg, fruit, avocado, omelette etc). Then started just giving her what we had but kind of deconstructed! Start with one meal per day (whichever suits you) and work up to three meals and snacks. The book from the HV is quite good.

DS was completely uninterested in foods, didn't show any signs, doesn't watch us eat etc. So today, I steamed some carrot. Mushed some up and put some sticks in front of him. He really went for it! Seemed to prefer being spoon fed which is not really what I meant to do but I just wanted him to taste some food.

I listed some of the baby stuff for sale today. How is my newborn 6months this week?

Megan2018 · 09/02/2020 22:00

@Horehound
It depends if you want to do traditional or BLW? BLW “proper” is not just finger food-I recommend this book which explains it all really simply-its what we are going to do. I got my copy on ebay for 99p

www.amazon.co.uk/Baby-led-Weaning-Helping-Your-Baby/dp/0091923808/ref=nodl_?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I don’t know much about purees or feeding baby with spoons as not something I want to do though. BLW is all about baby choosing what and when they put in their mouth without help

Horehound · 09/02/2020 22:10

Yes I was thinking I'd do BLW but thought I should try a porridge just to kick it off.
With things like porridge do you out the whole spoon in their mouth or just dab a bit on their lip first or what?!
Hmm maybe just leaving some cooked carrot sticks out in front of him will be easier.
He does seem so intrigued at anything we eat. Is usually desperate to get our cereal bowls and mugs of tea!

Horehound · 09/02/2020 22:11

Thanks @Megan2018 for the link

Megan2018 · 09/02/2020 22:18

You can’t do BLW if you start with spoon feeding anything - that defeats the whole point of it.
I’d read about the principles first as if you start with spoon feeding you are doing a different type of weaning.
Nothing wrong with that, lots of people do. But its not BLW if you feed the baby anything with a spoon to start with.

Stroan · 09/02/2020 22:48

@horehound yeah, you just hold it in front of him and if he opens his mouth you can guide it in. It feels fairly instinctive to be honest.

You'll find out quickly what suits Arthur and you. I'm a bit sensitive about weaning after being openly criticised by my NCT group for using a spoon when DD was 23 weeks. (Between that and them telling me I hadn't tried hard enough to breastfeed, I ended up with PND. I've been feeling really wobbly in the run up to weaning this time.)

Ultimately, it has to work for you and your child. Fed is best!

Horehound · 09/02/2020 23:17

Oh right I thought you can do a mix of Blw and spoon feeding @megan2018

Oh @stroan that's so sad. Sorry you were made to feel that way. I thought 17 weeks was the absolute minimum so you actually did it a lot later than that. It's horrible how people can really make you question yourself.
I'm excited to see how Arthur gets on!
And yes, it is crazy how fast the days are going in. Arthur is 5.5months. We had him at my mum's birthday party last night and he was great. We had little ear defenders on him and he had a little helium balloon attached to his jacket..honestly never seen anything so cute before! Because we were all staying in a b and b there was sooo much for him to look at etc he didn't sleep much in the day. When we got home today we both napped for three hours hehe :)
