Congratulations @Dipsy77 !! That's brilliant news

The 4 month regressions has reared it's ugly head here. Naps are usually pretty easy here and bedtime was always between 8.30-9.30.....

Naps are now such a struggle and he's taken to napping at 7. 30pm. no amount of trying/willing for him to stay awake works) then waking at 9pm wide awake for his last bottle. He then stays wide awake for atleast another 1.5 hours. Like tonight- he's still awake. I know he's only 17 weeks so we've been lucky to get a sort of routine and sleeping through but boy am I struggling now that's gone out the window.

Geegrl19 · 06/01/2020 23:32

@yevans v jealous re your sleeping situation. Wish Nate would go off on his own!

Congrats @Dipsy77 exciting news!

@DustyDoorframes DD is doing well thanks. Moving well. Some things still cause some pain and she is unable to run yet, but that will come. At least it's the holidays here and she can laze around which she is doing to the fullest extent!

iano · 07/01/2020 15:49

Many congratulations @Dipsy77! Lovely news!!

Dipsy77 · 07/01/2020 16:40

Thanks all forgot how nerve racking these first few weeks are every cramp and I'm panicking xx

KnobJockey · 08/01/2020 10:15

Congratulations @Dipsy77! That's fab news. May I also say I can't think of anything worse right now than going through this leap 4 at the same time as having a 15 month old! But that gap will be lovely in the longer term. Hope everything goes well!

Anyone else ready to chuck the whinging little monkeys out the window and head to the nearest bar/spa/bed (delete as appropriate)? Shes hungry but doesnt want to concentrate to eat, she's tired but doesn't want to go to sleep, shes bored but doesnt want to play! Finally just passed out on what's normally a guaranteed nap first thing after 90 minutes of kicking off and scratching.

Stroan · 08/01/2020 15:35

I think we've hit a minor sleep regression here. Trying not to complain as it's only daytime so far. He would always happily sleep in my arms or feed to sleep and then transfer. But for the last few days, he suddenly pulls away from my book and starts screaming - I've finally realised it's when he thinks he is going to fall asleep. Last night he refused to feed from 5pm until 9 and only a bath would calm him down. I even got in the bath too to see if he would feed. And he'll only fall asleep in the car or pram.

Just when you think you are figuring them out!

Stroan · 08/01/2020 15:36

Oh, and congratulations @dipsy77 that age gap is going to be so lovely when they are a bit older.

happydays00 · 08/01/2020 18:38

Hahahaha @KnobJockey I hear ya! These were my sentiments entirely last week (and the week before that, and.....) but I dare to say I think we're coming out the other side of this leap and sleep regression too. Hang in there (and get a drink whilst you wait!)

@stroan we don't feed to sleep here but having a similar issue with feeding when he is even remotely drowsy. The arching of the back and screaming is fairly dramatic!!

DS is 5 months next week. Terrifying how fast time is going!

Dyra · 08/01/2020 20:58

So that's what the screaming and back arching was about..... I hope it passes quickly for you @Stroan.

100% @KnobJockey.... Can I have all of the above?

Hope you and yours remain safe and unsinged @Geegrl19.

KnobJockey · 08/01/2020 21:42

@Stroan how old is he now? Is he in leap 4 too? Weeks 14.5- 19 after due date is when it's expected I believe.

@Dyra, yep, that's what it was, and I'm glad you're coming through the other side! I think there are a few people who thought the development leaps fussy phase were a bit of a myth until leap 4 has kicked us all in the balls 😂

@happydays00 how bad has the sleep regression been? We're having a bad patch here of unsettledness during the night, maybe 3 wake ups for a dummy and cuddle so I know I've got it easier than most! But still sucks.

Stroan · 08/01/2020 23:03

@knobjockey he's 21 weeks so would be late if so. I'm not using the leap app this time, it drove me a bit mad last time. Just hoping that whatever this is, he sticks to daytime only shenanigans!

Geegrl19 · 09/01/2020 00:50

Thanks @Dyra. Does make me a bit paranoid I must say.

Ah yes, leap four, joy. Actually I can't say Nate has been super bad with it as he wasn't a super content being before. Always fought naps anyway and will only (still) sleep on me, sigh. Although I'm still secretly loving it a bit, just wish it wasn't pretty much every nap ! It is a bit easier now he goes for a but longer between naps
Have had a few bad nights but the past few been ok so hoping that's it on that front.

Like you say @Stroan, just when we think we've got it figured out.

happydays00 · 09/01/2020 03:24

@KnobJockey it's been fairly bad: 3 wake ups before 3am and then every 45-60 minutes after that. However, I'm convinced he has been teething too as was refusing point blank to feed in the day time too. So sleep regression , teething , a developmental leap or a growth spurt... who really knows?! He's woken me up for the first feed of the night now, however after about 3 minutes of feeding is now too busy staring around the (dark) room to feed so is shouting and thrashing around happily in his cot 😒

Megan2018 · 09/01/2020 06:43

@Stroan or anyone else that bed-shared with their previous DC. What did you do early evening before you went to bed yourself once DC old enough to sleep unattended (eg 6 months +)?

We are bed sharing and its fine, I miss wine and my duvet but we get sleep as I feed lying down. I bring Felicity up with me at bedtime but she doesn’t really sleep until 11pm. Once she’s 6 months would like to start earlier bedtime really but other than going to bed early myself not sure how!

In an ideal world we’d move to her using cot with monitor but somehow I can’t imagine this ever happening!

Megan2018 · 09/01/2020 06:46

@Dipsy77
Congratulations! Hope all goes smoothly, that is so exciting!!

I I‘m very jealous! A second is out of the question for us sadly due to childcare costs.

Megan2018 · 09/01/2020 07:10

Looks like my periods are back (16.5 weeks), given how much we are feeding this is most unfair. Boo!! Sad

I thought I was ovulating recently and then this week got a few spots. Bugger it.

Dipsy77 · 09/01/2020 08:26

Thanks all for the congrats just want to get to 12 weeks which seems ages off as I'm only 4 week although I think with a baby in tow it will go a lot quicker this time round Smile

Stroan · 09/01/2020 09:04

@megan2018 we have a super king bed with a small dip in the middle where the mattresses zip together. DD would sleep right on that dip and we had a video monitor on her at all times. But, that worked as we cuddled her to sleep and then we were in bed a few hours later.

Once she was less predictable, we moved her to the cot next to the bed. Only took two days of gradual retreat and she was fine. Typically came back in with us overnight but was in the cot when alone.

I have to figure this out too - DS is almost too big for the co-sleeper but I do think he is starting to need earlier bed times.

Megan2018 · 09/01/2020 09:17

Thanks @Stroan that’s helpful.
We have zip and link superking too so could do the same I guess!

We have room in the crib yet as she’s tiny but the cotbed could fit with some re-jigging later to try her in there. Or I guess I could try her in the nursery first. I’m just not sure what to do for the best. I think bed sharing is going to get me more sleep and I don’t mind it.
DH has his own room anyway so it makes no difference there.

DustyDoorframes · 09/01/2020 09:58

With DC2 we had her in a small cot in our room once she'd outgrown the sidecar. I'd feed her to sleep and when she woke in the night she'd come in to the big bed with us. I expect we will do the same.
For now DC3 quite often conks out about 9 and I can then put her down, and transfer her up to bed with me when I go up (onto the sidecar cot if she stays asleep, or into the bed with me if she wakes...) so I feel this bodes well. 4 month sleep regression still to come though so who knows!

Horehound · 09/01/2020 10:06

@megan2018 could be a one off..this happened to my friend. I thought i ovulated recently but nothing has come of it. Fingers crossed it stays off a while longer. Re. Sleeping I think yeh just try the monitor thingy and maybe start implementing the bedtime sequence now (not necessarily timings just the same sequence of events so that when felicity is ready for routine it's kind of in place already?) I mean I'm no expert but I think that's what I'm going to start doung.

So my husband snores and I think he wakes Arthur up. Last two nights my husband has slept in a different room to test this and I've had Arthur in with me. He's slept 11pm to 4am falls asleep again then wakes at 8ish. So I definitely think it's helped! Poor husband hehe
I'm also trying to get him to sleep in his big boy cot but he doesn't seem to settle there for more than 30 mins..not sure how to help that

yevans · 09/01/2020 12:57

@Megan2018 my periods came back about 8 weeks even though I'm exclusively bf and I have since had 3 more in 8 weeks...they are totally all over the place! Totally thought I would get months off so I feel your pain at starting again!

DustyDoorframes · 09/01/2020 14:12

Omg @yevans and @Megan2018 !!! What a nuisance! Mine came back at 13 months with DC1 and 18 months with DC2. I'm hoping to get to two years this time... or even just right up to the menopause would be nice (hah)

Megan2018 · 09/01/2020 15:48

@DustyDoorframes in all seriousness I was slightly hoping to not restart before menopause! My mum started HRT at 44 so I was mildly optimistic that if I BF to 43 that might work!! But alas it appears that my fertility is still here. If only we were less broke Hmm

DustyDoorframes · 10/01/2020 08:52

Well, DC3 slept peacefully in her sidecar cot from midnight until we all got up in the morning! However I woke up at 5 with milk trickling down my neck and the realisation that DC2 had come into our bed and peed. You win some you lose some...
