Creating a thread for graduates of the October pregnancy thread. Hoping to see some familiar names, but also welcome new ones who want to chat about how their newborns are getting on.
Thought I’d tag a few other people who might want to come over. Feel free to tag others - no offence if I missed people; I have baby brain!

Yes to feeling hungry with breastfeeding especially in the afternoon.

I am finding it just hard. Trying to get out is now an art. There is that rare window when the baby has been fed, nappy changed (sometimes outfit changes) and is in the car seat. Tried to go out today with DH but the joiner had gone out for lunch and there was no way to get in contact about where we could leave a key. DH has gone out and I am sat in bed feeding the baby

BellaBellaBelle · 20/11/2019 16:27

@Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy I don’t know much about prolapses but I suspect I’ve got a fissure too but I haven’t built up enough courage to get it checked out yet. It’s ridiculous isn’t it, I’ve just had 6 people in the delivery room when I gave birth but I’m putting off seeing one GP about something which I’m sure is quite common?! I really hope it starts to improve for you soon @Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy.

Ds seems to have caught a cold. His nose is really stuffy which is making it difficult to feed and I can’t put him down. Looks like a sofa day tomorrow.

cattaxi · 20/11/2019 22:44

Just lost a long post & can’t make myself type another!
So I’ll just say a quick hi, I hope everyone is ok today 🙂

HJWT · 21/11/2019 20:37

Hi all! Hope you are all well, sorry have not posted for a while ! Hardly sit on my phone anymore and when I do its looking at christmas presents 😂

How often do you all get baby weighed? I haven't since HV came 🥴 really need to go tomorrow as he is huge!

mumest1019 · 21/11/2019 23:37

Hi everybody. Hope you are all doing amazing, as all u mama's and dad's are!! I am doing alot better now. Going out tomorrow with friends so that seems like a step in the right direction to feeling less isolated.

How many times do you mama's that breastfeed get up in the night? Like what's the average routine. Mine is going up to the bedroom at around 8 and then she will feed and sleep for whatever time usually around now she will feed again and fall asleep. She then gets up between 2 and 3 and feeds, I change her bum, give cuddles, swaddle, etc. She doesn't settle here, not until she has been sulking for at least 2 hours if not more. Getting about four hours sleep myself. Is this normal?
Hv also came today and signed my healthy start vouchers , does anyone else get these?

HJWT · 22/11/2019 03:59

@mumest1019 depends what time he goes down for the night and how much he sleeps in the day! Last night he slept 6.30pm-12 then woke up twice after that (we get up 7AM) he always sleeps longer if he has had a bath and then a big feed as it makes him really awake and super tired once we are finished!

Tonight he went down at 10pm and has woke up twice so far for a feed! 1AM and 3.30AM, I am lucky though he does tend to dream feed and go back down once he is done but I can never get back to sleep 🥴

BellaBellaBelle · 22/11/2019 05:11

@HJWT when I saw the HV last week she said to get him weighed once a month until he’s 6 ninths and then it’ll be once every 2. More if you’re worried about their weight.

@mumest1019 Ds tends to cluster feed in the evening, mainly to settle himself. Then he wakes every 2 hours.... not necessarily for a feed he just wakes up. Once we hit 5ish then he’s more unsettled and more difficult to put back down (although he does want to be asleep, just on somebody!). He does sleep better after a bath though as @HJWT says above.

mumest1019 · 22/11/2019 05:19

Is this a common thing that they sleep better after a bath? I haven't gave her a bath yet.

HJWT · 22/11/2019 20:17

@mumest1019 I think its because it is a lot of stimulation when they are so little so really tires them out !

Anybody else have a huge baby? Ordered lots of 3-6 today as stuff is getting to small he is only 5 weeks 🤷🏻‍♀️

Frizzy1986 · 22/11/2019 20:24

Ds sleeps better after a bath too. He only goes about 3 hrs between feeds and sometimes a 5hr at the start of the night if we are lucky.
He has his bath around 7/8pm and gets into bed things. He stays with us though so he doesn't get put to bed until he's had a feed around 9/10ish as that's when I go upstairs.
Sometimes he might do a 4-5hr stretch but not always and after that it's usually every 3hrs.
At this age every 3-4hrs is most likely as they should feed around 7-9 times a day.
Ds is nicely tracking the 75th percentile so I'm assuming how I'm feeding is OK. Some of his 0-3 stuff doesn't fit at 7 weeks old.

mumest1019 · 22/11/2019 20:25

@HJWT Ah yeah very true! Really wow, not me, 3 weeks and she is very very tiny , supposed to be 7lbs 2 but she seems so much smaller.

HJWT · 22/11/2019 21:09

@mumest1019 Mine was 9 LB 9 at birth but not had him weighed since HV came 😫 will see how much he has put on at his check on Monday!

Also TMI but I think I got my period today 🥴 Don't remember getting it with DD as I was on contraception before anything like this came back 🧐

HJWT · 22/11/2019 21:10

@Frizzy1986 have you had any fussy days? Struggled with DS today he just won't sleep 😴

Figuringitout · 22/11/2019 21:44

@HJWT - I’ve put Ada in 3-6 month stuff this week. She’s only 7 weeks but weighs 12lb now! It was the feet part of babygros that didn’t fit (I think she is going to be an Olympic swimmer as she has flipper feet) but she is now filling out 3-6 vests and leggings. She’ll also need size 3 nappies when this pack run out. I feel like it’s racing so fast and I want to keep her little.
Her sleep is patchy, but she has managed two 6 hour stretches at night - not consecutive nights but a step in the right direction. Whoever mentioned green poo upthread it caught my eye as nappies here have been green for the last week or so. She is well in herself so don’t think I will take her to the Dr but I can’t work out what is causing it. We have our check up on Monday so will mention it then if it’s still happening.
Good luck to all for the coming night - she’s cluster feeding like mad so I hope we’re tanking up for a decent stretch!

@HJWT at least 1 or 2 a week fuss wise. Bad eve tonight where he is inconsolable. Boob isn't helping, resisting sleep, short feeds but often. Expecting a rough night.

mumest1019 · 23/11/2019 08:42

@Frizzy1986 my girl didn't settle without having milk but she didn't actually need it and was full so she just spat it all back up. I tend to swaddle now and rock her in my arms swaddled until she falls asleep and then put her in her moses basket which she tends to then sleep for about 3-4 hours and then feeds again. But otherwise she will just scream until she gets milk.

Frizzy1986 · 23/11/2019 09:07

@mumest1019 we've got some dummies that look like bottle teats. He wouldn't take a normal dummy but these seem to be OK. He just sucks long enough to calm him down which makes a difference.
I find if he's in a fussy mood as soon as I get close to the moses basket or crib he startles awake! Its like he senses my relief that I might get some sleep and says to himself "no chance mummy"
In the end we actually had a good night with a 5hr stretch and then 2½hrs and then 3hrs. I was amazed as he was so overtired and it took about 3hrs to get him to sleep (dropped off at 11pm)
Although all the on and off boob sucking in the eve to settle himself meant my body assumed he wanted milk so I woke up having leaked!

cattaxi · 23/11/2019 09:10

Good morning!

@HJWT our hv has been visiting and weighing ds weekly. I think it’s going to every fortnight now for a bit. He’s over 11lbs, so doing great. Still comfy in 0-3 though. I can’t believe some of the babies are already in 3-6.
Ds has been really fussy in the evenings this week. He’s fine all day. Then starts cluster feeding & getting really wired & wide eyed from about 8-9 pm. It’s taken hours to get him to drop off to sleep. Really frustrating when you know he’s shattered. Last night was better, so hoping it was a passing thing.

@Figuringitout We had a green poo issue with ds1. It was a too much foremilk thing & got better when I stopped switching sides & made sure he drained each boob properly.

@mumest1019 I hope you enjoyed seeing your friends. I’m bf’ing loads curbing the night! Sometimes he’ll go 3 hours in between, but sometimes he’ll feed every hour! He’s pretty good at going back to sleep after a night feed. I’m hoping that means he’s starting to learn the difference between night & day.
We’ve barely given ds a bath as he hates it.

I hope everyone has a good weekend 🙂

Figuringitout · 23/11/2019 09:27

@cattaxi - I wondered if it might be something like this, so have tried block feeding her but it doesn’t seem to be making a difference. She seems well in herself so I’m not too worried.
For the bath hating babies - we got a shnuggle bath this time and she loves it, much nicer than the other baby baths and better than being in the huge tub!

@figuringitout I should’ve added to say that I was told not to worry about it as long as ds was gaining weight well & generally ok in himself. I think it stopped completely by the time he was about 10 weeks.

BellaBellaBelle · 23/11/2019 11:11

Morning all! Interesting to hear how you’re settling your fussy babies @Frizzy1986 and @mumest1019. Ds is really fussy in the evenings now and wants to be on the boob all the time for comfort, however he’s just constantly bringing milk back then which wakes him up again. Haven’t tried swaddling or a dummy yet.

Ds is almost in 3-6 months now too. He’s around 12lb which I’m struggling to believe as dd was such a tiny thing!

mumest1019 · 23/11/2019 13:21

@Frizzy1986 where did you get those from? Want to try anything at this stage, she sometimes only sleeps for 2 hours in a night even though she's sooo tired!!

@cattaxi thank you!! I did, it was nice getting away. Everyone wanted a hold !

Frizzy1986 · 23/11/2019 14:15

@mumest1019 got them from Tesco. On offer at the moment so down to £4. Ds seems happier with them than a normal dummy which he spits out.

@BellaBellaBelle I try a bath if it's almost bath time as that calms him for a bit, boob, lots of rocking swaying and singing to him and then a dummy. Sometimes things work, other times they don't. Eventually he does cave and fall asleep, but theres not been a consistent solution so far.

mumest1019 · 23/11/2019 19:27

Is anyone planning on giving a proper dummy anytime soon or already does??

HJWT · 24/11/2019 04:42

@BellaBellaBelle same here with the brining milk back! Either that or he will hold it in his mouth and spit it ALL over me 🥴

@Frizzy1986 we tried those dummy's but because they are so large he would knock them out when he got frustrated 😂
