Creating a thread for graduates of the October pregnancy thread. Hoping to see some familiar names, but also welcome new ones who want to chat about how their newborns are getting on.
Thought I’d tag a few other people who might want to come over. Feel free to tag others - no offence if I missed people; I have baby brain!

Thanks @Figuringitout

Aurora79 · 22/10/2019 18:25

Thanks! I’m a newbie but hoping my bubba makes an appearance soon so I can come on over to this thread!

Frizzy1986 · 22/10/2019 19:02

Thanks @figuringitout
Excellent news about the weight gain!

I feel like a bad parent as I can't be arsed getting Orson weighed. I assume health visitor will weigh again at 6 week visit so I'll see how he's going then.
He's feeding regularly and lots of wet and dirty nappies so assume he'll be adding on the lbs!
He still seems to cluster poo so only maybe 2 dirty nappies a day but he does 2 poos and then about 4 more as I change him. I'm fed up of trying to defend myself against the squirts (and the wees, damn willy)
He still has a slight yellow tinge at the edge of his eyes which I thought would be almost gone, but I do keep forgetting that he's only 3 weeks old today.
I had some tears yesterday as he was inconsolable. I was hugging and rocking him whilst balling my eyes out telling him that it was going to be OK. I've been giving him infacol which seems to help as I can feel the bubbles in his gut after he's had it.
How is everyone else finding things?

HJWT · 22/10/2019 20:05

@Figuringitout Thanks 🥰

@Frizzy1986 I know the feeling! Coby turned 1 week yesterday, I was crying thinking he was breathing funny! Today I am paranoid he is sleeping to much 🤦🏻‍♀️ I feel like a new mum and I only have a 3 yo! I was so much more chilled with DD ! Xx

cattaxi · 22/10/2019 20:44

Thanks @figuringitout! Looking forward to the others joining us as the babies come.

Ds is doing well. Almost back to birth weight by a week old. He’s feeding LOADS! I use an app to time feeds & he’s averaging 6-7 hours a day on the boob! Everyone here seems to be coming down with a cold & he’s started with gunky eyes today, so feeling a bit worried about him catching something when he’s still so small.

@Frizzy1986 your nappy changes sound just like ours. As soon as the air gets to his bum he squirts our little sharts or he pee’s everywhere. It was funny the first few times, but the novelty has definitely worn off now.

@hjwt yes to feeling like a first time mum again! Ds2 is so different to ds1 that it all feels new.

Frizzy1986 · 22/10/2019 20:53

@cattaxi Omg that's a lot of feeding. I have an app too. Orson feeds about 2.5-3hrs total as he averages around 15 mins a feed with 2.5hrs between each feed.
It either means he's not having enough food, he's really efficient or my boobs squirt milk in his mouth so he doesn't need to stay on long. Its the one thing I hate about breast feeding, you have no idea if they are being lazy, getting too tired, or just feeding really well.

cattaxi · 22/10/2019 21:25

Yup @frizzy1986 there is so much unknown with bf’ing.
Ds2 is having plenty of wet & dirty nappies & good weight gain, so I’m trying my best not to worry. He just seems to love a mammoth feed! He’ll do about 30 mins each side & then sometimes go back for more! He’s quite slow / relaxed after the initial let down, so maybe that’s what’s up.
My boobs seem ‘calmer’ this time. I’m getting a strong let down, but it’s not squirting & leaking everywhere like with ds1.
I’m quite enjoying the time with him at the moment. Hopefully he will have got a bit more efficient by the time dh goes back to work, or I’m going to struggle to get anything done from day to day!

Sw2102 · 22/10/2019 21:57

Thank you for the thread @figuringitout

Feel like I don't get as much time to look at MN atm as we adjust to the new normal! However I can relate to feeling like DS is a totally different baby to DD even on just day 2.. or maybe I have forgotten more than I think? But I think hes so much more sleepy and chilled so far. My milk is coming in and my boobs are getting that heavy solid tender feeling but I feel hes not quite drinking as much as they are producing yet..! So nice reading how everyone else is getting on with their newborns!

Frizzy1986 · 22/10/2019 22:10

@cattaxi if he's growing then it's all good. Each baby is so different as are everyone's boobs!
You'll just have to camp out in a cafe and have lots of cake!!
I have no idea how I know what letdown I have etc. Orson seems to feed fairly rapidly and probably once a day he coughs/chokes on it. But it doesn't squirt out at all unless I push a boob and then it does.

@sw2102 I don't envy you with the milk arriving. Its one of my least favourite moments. I think it took about 5 days for my milk to settle down and its agony until your body and your baby have coordinated.
I still have odd days when Orson will comfort feed and throw my body off as my boobs then start filling too early in anticipation of a comfort feed that then suddenly doesn't happen. It's why I have the breast pump, just to relieve the pressure on those occasions.

I had a slight accident today and a teaspoon or probably 2 of wee came out. I'm really trying to remember to do my pelvic floor exercises when he feeds but it doesn't always happen.

cattaxi · 22/10/2019 22:29

@frizzy1986 with ds1 my boobs used to shoot milk everywhere until my supply settled! It made me really nervous about feeding in public. My let down feels a bit stingy / tingly. But I’m sure that passes after a few weeks.
I fed ds1 until he was 2.5, so I think maybe my boobs are a bit more settled this time.

Just got into bed for the evening. Has anyone got any good tv recommendations? Ds has a good couple of hours of cluster feeling in the night, so I need something to watch. Nothing scary or too taxing as I’m quite dozy! But something good enough to stop me falling asleep mid feed!

Frizzy1986 · 23/10/2019 01:10

@cattaxi I'd recommend criminal on Netflix. You do have to pay attention though, but it's really good. Explained and Rotten are also quite good and are single episodes about various things. Good to dip into when feeding.

Figuringitout · 23/10/2019 08:44

Hi everyone,
@cattaxi I’m with you in the never ending feeding. Ada feeds at least once an hour (day and night at the minute) but is pretty efficient at feeding so it doesn’t take too long. She’s not yet having both boobs either - she seems to prefer small and often with her feeds. I was a bit worried she might have silent reflux and have spent a few nights getting about 20mins snatches of sleep in between feedings as I was trying to keep her upright for 20mins after each feed. She is also quite windy and this makes her squirm around and fuss at the boob sometimes. So, I can’t decide if it really is reflux or that she is taking in air with feeding (as I have a very fast letdown and it makes her gulp). Basically the Health Visitor has said that unless she is distressed or not putting weight on then they wouldn’t do anything about reflux at this stage.
Anyway, other than that she has been amazing. She is so calm and her big sisters are completely besotted with her - it’s amazing watching her sisters fall in love with her.
I think the hardest thing for me so far this time has actually been having DH around! Last baby we had a spare room which I slept in, but that is now DD2s bedroom so DH, Ada and I are all in together. He sleeps so soundly and genuinely doesn’t hear crying or requests for help. So we are both getting irritated with each other, me with him for not reacting quicker and him as he wakes from deep sleep to a crazy woman. Not sure how to resolve this one(!) but we are both making an effort to be kinder to each other and also the last few evenings I have gone up to bed at 9ish and he has brought the baby up to feed each hour and then taken her away again to wind, settle and change so I have been able to get much better chunks of sleep.

HJWT · 23/10/2019 11:22

Anybody seen health visitor yet? She came this morning she was here for over an hour 🤯 xx

Frizzy1986 · 23/10/2019 11:44

My heath visitor was there for an ut an hour too @HJWT but thats because we were casually chatting as she was really nice.

@figuringitout I know what you mean about getting frustrated. Dh definitely wakes up to a crazy lady. I don't think I'd like him sleeping elsewhere though. It would feel really isolating as being at home in the day not really seeing anyone and then being alone at night too would be horrible.
I find sometimes ill go up around 9pm, get myself ready for bed and then come and get the little man to change him and sit in bed with him to feed and try and get him to sleep on his crib.
Or ill go up, go to sleep and dh will bring him up around 10:30-11 ish, change him and hand him over to feed.

We're off into the city this afternoon to open a bank account and go to the museum so dd can have some fun. I'm a bit nervous that he'll wake up screaming for milk in a awkward place but I need to put my big girl pants on and not over think it.
Off to buy a new sofa tonight too. Seems silly what with a new baby, a 5 year old and a dog, but dh is really keen so I'm putting my faith in his decision.

cattaxi · 23/10/2019 13:30

Thanks for the tv recommendation @Frizzy1986. will check them out.
Ds2 did some good stretches of sleep last night - Hopefully all these mammoth feeds are wiping him out 🤞🏻
Enjoy the sofa shopping! I highly recommend washable covers after a recent puke fest by ds1.

That sounds like hard going @Figuringitout. Hopefully it’s not reflux and she’s just getting it all figured out.

Ds2 and I seem to have thrush ☹️ He’s feeding fine, but his tongue is white & I’ve got shooting pains in my boobs after a feed. Luckily the health visitor phoned today to sort out a visit & is going to sort us out some medication. We’ve not even got round to registering ds at the gp yet!

I hope everyone is having a good day. We are just about to brave the school thanksgiving concert. Ds1 is convinced ds2 will enjoy watching him sing!

HJWT · 23/10/2019 16:57

@Frizzy1986 She asked a million and 1 questions! And repeatedly asked about my mental health and telling me to access counselling over the birth 🤷🏻‍♀️ she was really good at her job but god it felt like she was here forever! x

Frizzy1986 · 23/10/2019 17:45

@cattaxi the UK one is only 3 episodes with stand alone stories but the police character stories run through the episodes.
If you enjoy it, there are foreign ones too. All released at the same time, same premise, different individuals. Subtitled or dubbed. We've watched the German ones I think and they were good as well. Still France and Spain left to watch.

@HJWT we did a lot of mental health chat too. I did start it though as I wanted to be open that I was struggling so I was at least on their radar. I know how easy it can be to get lost in the system and looking back at last time, I went through some dark times, but didn't realise it so never spoke to anyone about it. This time I'm determined to at least share with those close to me when I am not doing well or generally how I feel so I get the support from them.

We had a good day today. Searching for Where's Wally at the museum took about 2hrs and dd enjoyed it and got a sticker for finding them all. She also got some cake and hot chocolate at the bank as its their 80th birthday. Didn't manage to get an account set up as they were fully booked but have an appointment in a few weeks.
Traffic on the motorway is rubbish so I've had to delay tea waiting for dh and we are supposed to be going to check this sofa, so him being late could screw that up.

SC0508 · 23/10/2019 17:51

Hope everyone's having a good day 😊

We have had a chilled day at home as I can't seem to get rid of a really bad migraine today 🙁.

Looking to see if anyone has any advice, DS is really struggling to burp after every fed (bottle feeding) does anyone have any techniques they found worked best?

Have health visitor coming round tomorrow for first time, have mixed feelings about her visit as it's the same one I had with DS1 and she wasn't the nicest of person 🙁 turns out the one that came to visit me a few weeks ago that I absolutely adored as she was lovely was just her helper and won't be dealing with me as much as I hoped.

Frizzy1986 · 24/10/2019 08:34

@SC0508 I'm rubbish at burping so no tips. I just go over the shoulder, then lie down, then on my lap supporting his head. I alternate and eventually something sometimes comes out, but it feels like it takes ages.

Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy · 24/10/2019 11:35

Hi All,
Checking in to the new thread. I've not been great at keeping up on here with all the appointments and visitors. Ds is now 16 days old.
We have a Lactation consultant visiting today due to tongue tie and due to have it cut on Tuesday. It's all I can do to not cry when I think about it. Irrational as I know it won't hurt him but he's so small and unaware. However the silver lining should be that we shouldn't need to spend the majority of the day feeding once it's done and hopefully my nipples won't feel like they've been attacked with sandpaper.
Also 2 week countdown to moving house. Don't know how that is going to go as I can't even make a brew easily never mind pack / unpack a whole house.
Any tips welcome!

HJWT · 24/10/2019 15:58

Hows everyones postpartum bleeding ? Probably tmi on the sharing front but mine was very minimal for the first week and now seems quite a lot every time I feed and very red 🤷🏻‍♀️ not sure if the balloon and vaginal pack I had in would of had anything to do with it but its very different to last time!

Frizzy1986 · 24/10/2019 16:29

@hjwt mine was bright red for maybe 4 days then a more pinkish red. Then at about 7-8 days pp it went bright red again.
I also had a clot the size of a pound coin around day 12 and another a few days later.
Midwife said bleeding will often get more red if you are being more active and you often get a slight gush after a feed.
I'm am now 23 days pp and I've hardly got any blood at all. Occasionally get some reddish discharge but that's it. Last time I bled until about 9 weeks pp so it's much less this time.

Anyone else still struggling with bladder control? I'm still leaking urine 😔 like a couple teaspoons I think.
I think I'm clenching my pelvic floor when exercising, but when I test it mid wee it does nothing, absolutely nothing. I'm worried I've lost the ability to clench it and therefore I'm not doing my pelvic exercises properly and I'll be incontinent forever.
I swear by this point last time I had regained some control.

Im pretty sure that Orson has colic. The pulling up his legs, periods of inconsolable crying, gassy, going red faced, worse in the evenings.
How long does it last? When will it get better? Using infacol when I remember. Any other tips.

cattaxi · 25/10/2019 04:40

Checking in from the night time feeding frenzy! Ds is so chilled & sleepy all day, but so hungry at night 🙄
Had a very long day yesterday. We had to go back in to hospital for assessment as i’d had a headache for days & they were worried about it being post spinal fluid leakage. Luckily, they tired me with some migraine meds before doing the blood patch in my spine & they worked. I hope it doesn’t come back.
It was a right old hassle as both other kids had stuff on & my poor mum had to cancel her plans to sort them out.

@HJWT my bleeding has pretty much stopped. I think that they clean you out quite a bit with a section. But it definitely was heavier when feeding - that makes the womb contract, so pushes it out. Talk to your midwife if you are worried.

@Frizzy1986 ds1 had about 5 nights of colic at 3 weeks. The hv said it was a common time to get it. We used infacol and I’m sure it did help. And a lot of coffee for me to get through the day!

Anyone who had a c-section finding it difficult to keep their wound dry? Mine had quite an overhang & I’m a sweaty mess when feeding at night. I’m worried it will get infected & wondering if I should put a dressing on it to keep it dry. It’s hard to do much with it when you spend hours every night sat up in bed feeding.

My milk monster is asleep now. Wish me luck in getting him into his own part of the bed!

Maryrobinson81 · 25/10/2019 14:23

Hi all, just bookmarking the new post natal thread. Pearl is 2 days old but feels like she’s been here so much longer now. The older 3 children are besotted and can’t leave her alone, she will be used to lots of noise and rough and tumble from a young age I think! I’ve Just been trying to sort out all the car seats in the car in the order I want them and keep changing it, can’t decide who’s more likely to fight with who and who I can trust to try and comfort the baby haha. I’m sure I’ll change it a few times yet. Off out shortly so will test out arrangement!

userabcname · 25/10/2019 18:28

Thanks for tagging! Just spotted this! All going well here - recovery has been fine, baby is a dream so far (eek probably jinxed it now!) and we've sorted out annoying admin-y bits like registering the birth etc. Just plowing through the million visits from family and friends who want to meet baby but luckily most have brought cake with them so it's been quite nice!
