Creating a thread for graduates of the October pregnancy thread. Hoping to see some familiar names, but also welcome new ones who want to chat about how their newborns are getting on.
Thought I’d tag a few other people who might want to come over. Feel free to tag others - no offence if I missed people; I have baby brain!

@YorkshireIndie I’m struggling for things to wear to breastfeed in too. Last time I managed with a vest underneath another top but I’m not finding that very comfortable this time, so I bought a couple of nursing tops from new look. As it goes colder maybe the vest under jumper thing will work, I’m still too hot at the moment - probably through panicking with having a crying baby!

crazycatlady7 · 09/11/2019 14:40

Hello, I had my baby 15 days ago. I'm really struggling with breastfeeding as he can't use his tongue so expressing and formula feeding but feel my life is expressing and feeding. We've had his tongue tie cut so just working with him to learn how to use it. Totally agree with other posters and cluster feeding g all Evening! I need to get into TV!

Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy · 09/11/2019 22:54

Can I ask what brand vitamin D is anyone using for baby?

cattaxi · 10/11/2019 04:16

Hello! Checking in from the night shift. We are mostly feeding lying down & dozing, but ds’ latch isn’t amazing like that, so I sit up & give a proper feed around this time.

@Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy & @crazycatlady7 sorry you are both struggling with bf. it can be relentless at this early stage. I second @YorkshireIndie’s advice re: taking to your bed for kids of skin to skin & checking out local support.

@yorkshireindie, I’m just wearing long line vests from matalan & a loose top for one up one down. I could really do with some new stuff as everything is a bit old & scraggy. Kind of reflects how I feel right now!

@Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy I’m not giving vitD. Is that something we should be doing?

I hope everyone is ok? I’m finding the weekends hard as we have so many people who want to visit to see the baby. And ds1 & the teenager to entertain. The baby never gets to have a proper long nap & it feels like we are all overtired.

YorkshireIndie · 10/11/2019 13:30

Think my heart has just melted - baby boy wanted me to hold his hand whilst feeding. I know it has been and is a struggle but it is moments like this that make it feel worth it

Frizzy1986 · 11/11/2019 08:23

Hi all, sorry people are still struggling. Definitely utilise any local bf support groups, they will be a wealth of help.
I'm no where close to fitting into pre May clothes. I was a size 12-14 but have had to go and buy some essentials in 16 as I wanted to stop wearing the maternity things.
I wear a breast vest underneath my top.
I've got all my 6 week checks this week. Need to speak to the gp as I've been bleeding a bit from the back. I think it's just a fissure as 2 weeks ago I was a little constipated and I think that's caused it. I've been trying to have some lactulose (when I remember) to loosen things to give it time to heal, but it's a little sore.
Hope it's not an internal issue with my stitches.

Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy · 11/11/2019 12:01

Hey Frizzy, I'm having the same issue but intermittently. Would you mind reporting back what the GP says?
Hope it all goes well x

Frizzy1986 · 11/11/2019 14:23

@Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy no problem. I might get some info at the women's physio tomorrow as not sure if they will be doing internal checks or just chatting about recovery. Gp is on Wednesday, then dentist Thursday and Orson's tongue tie clinic on Friday. Busy week!

HJWT · 12/11/2019 05:11

@Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy Iv been giving the Vit D I got in a bounty pack, think its called baby Ddrops... when I remember to anyway 🥴

@Frizzy1986 also having the same problem intermittently, my back end definitely came out a lot worse of than my front 😂

Had a very rough night with both kids! Coby wanted to feed every 1-2 hours and DD has woken twice so DH has got in bed with her! Have to be up in an hour to start getting ready for nursery.... if I didn't have to go to my poor old nans I would just turn the alarm of 😴

YorkshireIndie · 12/11/2019 17:56

Finally signed off by the midwife and got the contraception talk - answer not bloody likely with the stitches and the baby sleeping in the bed...

HJWT · 12/11/2019 19:15

@YorkshireIndie Haha the "your very fertile right now" line always gets me 🥴

cattaxi · 12/11/2019 21:46

Ha! @YorkshireIndie & @HJWT - the consultant asked me about contraception at my c-section pre-op!! I laughed a lot 😂

Maryrobinson81 · 13/11/2019 11:28

Love the contraception lectures everyone’s had 😂 My midwife told me and my partner she would see us for baby number 5, we said not likely but she laughed and Still said see you in about a year! I actually would love to retrain as a midwife and have thought about this for years and years, but I don’t think I’ll ever be able to do it, makes me sad to think I never did anything about it when I could have done.
Hope everyone doing well and their little babies. Pearl is doing well but still feeds constantly, she is 3 weeks today so nothing I don’t expect. We did have a really unsettled night though, we mostly feed and co-sleep and she just spent most of the night fussing and feeding off and on. She did sleep for Over 2.5 hours during school run and shopping this morning so She’s caught off on the Zzzzz but I haven’t! Hoping I can take her to bed with me for a snooze this afternoon.

Frizzy1986 · 13/11/2019 23:35

@Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy and @HJWT I had my gp today and I chickened out. There was reason for it though.
As soon as I walked through the door he told me that this wasn't a check it was a chat as he wouldn't be checking anything (last time the Dr asked to check my healing to ensure there wasn't any infection etc as not like I can see or anything)
He then said he needed to ask me something a bit embarrassing, cue the sex talk (ummmm you're a doctor, it shouldn't be embarrassing)
Finally he advised me that I was breastfeeding, contraception would be OK for the first 3-6 months (umm no, breastfeeding does not prevent pregnancy)
No way was I letting him stick his finger up my bum as I felt so uncomfortable and he seemed to know nothing.
I'll be using the anusol and lactulose to help it heal (I've had a fissure before and it seems the same) and if it doesn't get better I'll book an appointment specifically for it with a competent doctor.

I did have my physio yesterday though and she was lovely. Finger in the front to check my pelvic floor and she did check out my scar too and it's healing well.
Thankfully when I'm doing my exercises, I am doing the right thing as she can feel my pelvic floor muscles clenching when I do them, they are just quite weak but it's a starting point and she's given me a personalised plan for building the strength up.

We're having some good nights on the sleep front. He's been having a feed and going down around 10-11pm and going 5hrs before another feed. It's epic and nothing like dd who woke every 1½hrs overnight for months.
I know it's more likely going to revert back to more frequent wakes but its been nice.

I'm annoyed as my phone has been sent off for warranty repair/replacement as I've had an issue with it for months. It could take up to 2 weeks to fix it so I'm stuck with dhs old phone and it's so slow, battery life is shocking and when it gets down to 30% it turns itself off and won't turn on unless you plug a charger in.
It's going to be a long 2 weeks!

SC0508 · 18/11/2019 13:10

How's everyone keeping? 😄

Looking for some advice 😀 got DS a 2.5tog sleep bag today for bedtime, what should I put on him to wear to bed with this? Our room thermometer says our room is anything from 16-20 degrees but has a chill to it at nights.

Aurora79 · 18/11/2019 15:30

@SC0508 I’ve been using the advice on the grobag website (can’t get the pop up to link but go to the tog guide section and scroll to the bottom and they have a section on temperature and what to wear under each tog.) www.gro-store.com/grobag/0-6-months.html

cattaxi · 18/11/2019 23:03

Hi! Is anyone else using the wonder weeks? It tells you when your baby is going through a developmental leap. Ds has ben pretty fussy the past few days and is struggling to sleep in decent stretches. I downloaded the app and we are in leap 1. It makes me feel better to know there is a reason for a fussiness.

@SC0508 our room gets quite cold at night so ds is in a 2.5 tog & vest & sleepsuit. He also has the added warmth of my body because he won’t sleep anywhere except as close as possible to me 🙄

BellaBellaBelle · 19/11/2019 06:08

Hi @cattaxi I’m using the wonder weeks app. I like the fact that you can see the reasons behind some of the fussiness, and in a way prepare yourself!

We’re 7 weeks in and colic has really set in now. He cries from around 5/6 each night until he crashes out exhausted at 9. Apparently it peaks in weeks 6-8 so I’m just trying to ride it out, but it’s horrible seeing him so distressed and not being able to do anything to settle him. I don’t want to wish the time away but I’ll be so glad when this stage is over!

mumest1019 · 19/11/2019 21:35

Hey everyone, not really posted before. Looking just for some support of other mums. I'm first time mum of my little girl born on Halloween and just not coping well. I'm a young mum and on my own. I feel so isolated and have lost majority of my friends and have no "mum" friends. I have had a suggestion to go to a baby group perhaps a breastfeeding one as I am breastfeeding my dd. But I'm just quite nervous about it, people are so judgemental these days, I know it will be best for baby to get out but I am struggling. Any advice or just support?

cattaxi · 19/11/2019 22:10

Hi @mumest1019. I’m sorry you are finding things tough. Life is hard with a new baby, especially if you don’t have a partner to support you.
Definitely go to some groups. My experience last time was of a very positive & inclusive atmosphere. Everyone was quite different, but being new parents kind of made us all the same. I don’t think there was any judgement.

How is your little girl doing? These first few weeks are quite hard work.
Definitely come on here & chat to us if you want some company.
I’m often around in the middle of the night when feeding!

Ds seems to be getting a bit windy / colicky too @BellaBellaBelle. Hopefully it won’t last too long. Infacol seems to help a bit here.

I hope everyone else is ok. I can’t believe a month has already passed. Seems to have gone much quicker than that last month of pregnancy 🙂

mumest1019 · 19/11/2019 22:53

Hi @cattaxi thank you. I looked at the different things on and looking at one on next Monday. Hv coming on Thursday when she's 3 weeks so maybe could ask her what's on.

How old is your baby now?

cattaxi · 19/11/2019 23:15

@mumest1019 the first time you go will be hard, but it will be worth it. I found the breastfeeding group especially friendly & made some good friends there.
Your hv might have a list of stuff that’s on in the area.

My little boy (ds2) is 5 weeks now. It’s going so fast. He’s not really looking much like a newborn now.
He’s been cluster feeding all evening. And despite eating loads, I’m still starving. Breastfeeding is hard work!
Ds has conked out now, so I should get my head down too. We’ll probably be up again in an hour!

I hope you and your little one have a good night.

Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy · 20/11/2019 00:12

Evening all!
I went to the GP today with suspected fissure after painful toilet trips and lots of blood.
She has given me some lactoluse and annusol to start with.
However she did mention I have a slight prolapse and is going to arrange physio.
Does anyone know much about this becuse I am trying not to panic and google too much.
I have been recommended to do lots of pelvic floor exercises and return next week minus the crying baby for a more thorough consultation...
on another note DS has been having green poo for w week but today a little blood was present too.
My HV is coming tomorrow so will know more then

Maryrobinson81 · 20/11/2019 09:40

Hi all, hello @mumest1019, definitely go to some groups, They are as much, if not more, for mums to have social time than for babies to do anything, especially when young.
I also can’t believe how quick time is going, my baby is 4 weeks today, I loved the birth so much and I feel like It was so long ago now, makes me feel somewhat sad. She is so much more awake and alert in the day times now, she will lay on play mat for 10 mins or enjoyed being talked to by people. Still very fussy in the evenings though still. But I can see progress and changes, like I think she knows difference between day and night now. I’m still co-sleeping and feeding lay down for now. I am able to get most things done one handed or can wear her in sling for house work. But God knows how I’m going to wrap Christmas presents!!
Father in law is coming to stay tomorrow for couple of days, he’s bringing Xmas pressies down from that side if family and we send theirs back with him. I’m dreading it, he’s usually grumpy, negative and argumentative!!

@Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy I hope you get some relief soon, I think green poo can be from lots of foremilk? Or something you are eating? I might be wrong though. Hope you find out!
I’m going to have to start making lists of things to do as I keep forgetting so many things at the moment, I hate lists ( hubby loves them) but I’m going to have to give in and start doing it!

Maryrobinson81 · 20/11/2019 09:54

Also can’t butter toast or bread one handed!! 😂
