Couldnt see a post natal group so have taken it upon myself to start one! Will obviously still keep up on antenatal also until babies have all arrived!

Shall we start a list of arrivals?

I'm using Aldi with no issues, but had a conversation (uninvited and not needed!) with a lady in Tesco's who said Kendamilk was much better on her little ones stomach, as it contains much less ingredient wise. Fun conversation to start with a stranger, but it does look like good milk. I have head that cow and gate it the harshest of the milks.

There was a really interesting documentary not that long ago that basically showed that due to the regulation in formula there is bugger all difference between the standard formulas and its all marketing. I’ll see if I can find the link

Well worth a watch if you formula feed. I’m EBF but completely ambivalent about Formula, but it showed how the premium brands are a complete rip off. If I was FF it’d be the cheapest

Geegrl19 · 24/10/2019 12:48

@Horehound we had a couple of unsettled days after immunisations. Will be more prompt with the panadol next time. I've heard the one they give for the stomach upset can give then belly ache for a bit. Not sure if in the UK they are the same as what they give here (oz)?

@Stroan 💩 in the babygrow leg sounds horrendous! I've never experienced that and hope not to! We have slowed down on the poos recently and are getting more substantial ones but no leg ones yet...

@DustyDoorframes so glad to hear little one is on the mend. How distressing for you all.

@RolyHappyNorrieTagBetty we've had some sleep crying here, but only very brief. I always wondered if a bad dream? Do babies dream?!

Been a hot day here for us, 35 degrees, ugh. Not looking forward to the hot summer days. Great fun breastfeeding in the heat! We're in the state that has the worst weather though and so in that regard is like the UK and will be hot one day, then cold the next.

There was a leaflet in my new box of c&g saying changes are being made due to new regs on omega 3 contents so i imagine theyre all gonna be even more similar soon

@NotwhereIshouldbe @Geegrl19 never thought about bad dreams! Maybe it is that.

I've been furiously googling and next on my list of suspicions is lactose overload as I think we tick pretty much all the symptoms. Apparently it's often misdiagnosed as colic so potentially something to look into if any of you have really unsettled babies like I do. Trying Colief plus some changes to feeding in the hope it helps the constant screaming, wish us luck!

Dusty, sorry you've ended up in hospital but sounds like you're handling it like a pro! We were back in just for one night at about 10 days and I was a mess from that Blush

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 24/10/2019 17:03

Hello ladies, haven't been on for a while, so catching up. Seriously where do the days go?!

@DustyDoorframes so sorry to hear your LO has been so ill. Hopefully she's well on the mend by now and you can get back home very soon to cuddles on the sofa and uninterrupted feedings!

@Stroan your son's poonami made me laugh. We've had a few big'uns so far (one that shot out mid change and went overboard all over the carpet...) but you reminded me of when DD1 used to have a total blowout and destroy whole outfits up to the neck 🙈 I'm sure we'll have some soon, particularly when she starts pooping less frequently.

We had 8 week jabs this morning and bubs is super unsettled this afternoon. No temperature yet but she been crying out a lot in between sleeping. Hopefully a better day tomorrow!

DustyDoorframes · 24/10/2019 17:18

Discharged! Yaaaay!!! Waiting for my final bit of paperwork and we are off.
Thank you for all the good wishes!!!

Dyra · 24/10/2019 18:32

Hooray Dusty and baby Dusty! 🥳 Homewards with you! No more scares now baby Dusty you hear!

NotwhereIshouldbe · 24/10/2019 18:56

@DustyDoorframes Wonderful news! Hope baby Dusty feels much better and there will be no more hospital trips soon!

@RolyHappyNorrieTagBetty Let me know if the Colief is any good, I suspected a lactase issue with my LO when she had a colicky spell as it would always happen around 9pm-12am and she has been fed a few hours before and I suspect that was causing gas and making her uncomfortable.

Anyone’s babies hate the car seat and the car? Mine will scream in it, including if we stick it in the pram and just go for a walk. We’ve really limited our car journeys as she gets so stressed she’s sick thanks to her ongoing reflux. DH wants to visit his mum near Christmas which I’m dreading as it’s a 4.5 hour car journey on a good day or double that on a bad day!

BBell2 · 24/10/2019 20:36

Hiya, not been on in a couple of wks, partly because of our crud wifi and mainly because this is the first night in nearly 4 wks Jasper hasn't cluster fed all evening (did that earlier in the day!).

@iano, I'm later to the conversation but I do like Asdas nursing bras. I find the straps and fastenings reliable but not stiff, the cups are soft and cheap enough to have plenty. Jasper pukes after most feeds, lots more than DD did so im glad to have a few!

@dusty sorry to read about your babe, hope you are all ok this evening Xx

RolyHappyNorrieTagBetty · 24/10/2019 20:56

@NotwhereIshouldbe DC1 was an absolute nightmare in the car (and pram), screamed non stop in it until he was 15 months. We did one journey to the inlaws (4-5 hours) and it was so horrific we didn't go again until he was almost 2 and drove after bedtime so he slept.
Probably not what you want to hear, sorry- I hope it is only a temporary issue for you!

Myspiritan · 25/10/2019 07:42

@nowhereishouldbe we have friends who had car issues with their DS in the end they had a dummy just for the car but as I remember they only used it for a little while and then he settled down

DustyDoorframes · 25/10/2019 08:00

Ouf, the obnoxiousness level is through the roof with my older kids, am I allowed to check me and baby back into hospital just for the peace??? I know it's because they are stressed out because I disappeared on them and now I'm back, but it's non stop revoltingness from both!
@NotwhereIshouldbe DC1 hated cars when little. Trains and public transport have always been very easy though, and a much pleasanter option. Would that be a possibility for visiting your in-laws?

Puglover88 · 25/10/2019 09:26

@DustyDoorframes that’s great news that you’re home and baby dusty is better! Sorry about your other DC! 🤦‍♀️

NotwhereIshouldbe · 25/10/2019 11:25

@RolyHappyNorrieTagBetty I thought as much! Even 10 minute journeys in the car are so stressful 😩

@Myspiritan LO spits out the dummy when we’ve tried using it but I might persevere with it in the car as I want to make it a pleasant experience.

@DustyDoorframes We could try public transport although MIL is not one for coming to pick us up as she lives in a village and the station is in the nearest town which is 30 minutes away. Might need to persuade his brother to collect us!

happydays00 · 25/10/2019 17:08

@DustyDoorframes great news you're out. No so great news re your other DC, I am struggling with my DD who is being particularly vile this week so solidarity!

@NotwhereIshouldbe DD was horrendous in the car, it made things so stressful I was frequently calling DH from service stations on the motorway in tears with her screaming in the background. For us, it got a little better when she could look at books etc and distracted but didn't truly improve until we faced her forward around 9 months. We have since turned her rear facing again but I simply couldn't cope with the screaming any longer. Sorry, it's probably not what you want to hear. Have you got the seat/ fit checked out by the shop- could it be that? My DD would tolerate the car seat on the pram, just not in the car

IVEgotthePUMPKINS · 25/10/2019 17:14

People struggling in the car how about trying white noise?

(DECAF on halloween name change!)

Lavellan · 25/10/2019 21:45

@db92 did you get the milk switched? We are using SMA and tried to switch to Sainsbury's own after I watched that channel 4 documentary (lol so easily persuaded) but even if they're nutritionally the same - they ain't the same. It didn't dissolve and left bits in the bottles I had to scrub off, and she spewed a record 5 times after the second (and last) bottle. It was just water coming up by the end. That was a short experiment.

db92 · 25/10/2019 22:29

We did @Lavellan after research online and suggestions here we went for hipp organic. I agree that while they all must follow the same guidelines in regards to ingredients that must be used and what not, it's the quantities of each which are different. I have found that hipp looks much smoother than Aptamil and most definitely dissolves better. We found Aptamil to be very grainy.

We're on day 3 and haven't seen any changes as yet but I know it's abit soon. Only change is that DS is more constipated than usual which we expected.

We had our health visitor review today though and she's unhappy that we've not been given a prescription without cows milk protein to try first rather than swapping to another 'normal' formula.

She did say that they encouraged parents to use supermarket own brands because of the similarities.
Sorry to hear that little one didn't agree with the change! Are you going to carry on or switch back?

NotwhereIshouldbe · 26/10/2019 04:56

@IVEgotthePUMPKINS Thanks for the tip, I’ll give it a go. LO nods off when the electric toothbrush comes out so hopefully it will work!

RolyHappyNorrieTagBetty · 26/10/2019 05:47

@NotwhereIshouldbe we're just over 24 hours into the Colief and I don't want to jinx it (and it could be a mega coincidence) but I have a completely different baby.
She barely cried yesterday, was happy on her playmat or my lap during awake times. She fed well and only every 2-3 hours, no cluster feeding. She napped fairly well and not once on me! For the first time since she was born, DH and I both ate dinner with two hands as she actually sat in her bouncer and didn't cry for 15 minutes. She's not done that once so it was a revelation. And to top off the day, she fed at 8pm and then not again until 2am after I had to encourage her to wake up as my boobs demanded it. Then back down til now. Long may this continue!

So far I'd recommend this to anyone who thinks there's any chance their baby has lactose overload, apparently much more common than we realise.

Lavellan · 26/10/2019 07:50

@db92 we immediately went back to SMA. Tried to swap bc she is pukey anyway and we thought something else might be better than SMA and save us £3 a tin. But bc of the graininess I wasn't happy to persevere with it just for that.

@RolyHappyNorrieTagBetty we've also been trying colief since she was crying after each bottle and in the evening. Done a week of it and it's hard to say definitively but seems like it's helped. So expensive though, that's £24 a week! Trying without it again this week and then I plan to ask Dr at 8 wk appt about lactose free formula if the crying comes back. It would cost us only £4 a week, and no waiting for the drops to work?

Stroan · 26/10/2019 09:10

@lavellan a pharmacist told us we could get colief on minor ailments. The HV said they would only give it three times but then a doctor could prescribe it. Not sure how true that is (HV isn't great...) but could save you some cash.
