Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
jabberwocky · 31/10/2007 16:52

AQ, what a fantastic memory you have! Yep, two slings and a wrap and I actually just gave two other slings to my niece

But it was a really good sale so I blew some of my money from selling the amby bed on ebay

accessorizewithbabysick · 31/10/2007 20:01

jabber, I particularly remembered you talking about a didymos and you have a hotsling like me too! I would lurve a fleecy sort of hotsling for winter and mei tei as I don't get on that well with my ergo but I'm trying to look out for birthdays and christmas at the mo'.

Although not a boot wearer, I can appreciate your delight, castles ! They always look so lovely on others but I get sooo hot in them I can't bear it after 2 hours. Have just ordered myself a new underwire bra (although this was before he'd given up so no doubt I'll go down another couple of cup sizes) and a pair of heels for the office. I quite like slobbing the rest of the time and looking really smart 3 days a week. Today I only realised as I got to surgery about ds2's ear infection what a sight I looked! Hair gone afro, tomato sauce on my cardie and some sort of mess all down my cords!

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 31/10/2007 21:11

I just bought a new underwired bra too It has moulded cups which I havent worn before and DH was very impressed

I have also just started another period 10 days after my last one stopped.

babypowder · 31/10/2007 22:09

I must buy myself some decent bras before I go back to work! Very about talk of moulded cups and the like.

I am here, and trying to keep up with conversations, but DD2 has now contracted the dreaded tummy bug. Oh joy!

On the bright side, she is definitely crawling now (so I can stop being a silly worry-wort).

And I'm going to crawl off to bed now.

Night!

Gloria42 · 31/10/2007 22:19

I am very of all you with crawlers! I know DS is one of youngest (Dec 29) but the most he does is shuffle round in a circle on his bum! He will walk all day long holding my hands, and even now with me just holding the back of his clothes, so looks like he might bypass crawling altogether!

On the plus side, he had his first sleepover at the weekend, spent the night with my DB and fiancee and was an angel.

Elibean · 31/10/2007 22:32

Halloween survived, mostly enjoyed, hurrah, no eggs, lots of treats. dd1 and her pal, with black nail varnish, were a sight to behold. dh came back late from work, looked at photos of dd1 (also wearing red lipstick as the black one didnt' work, and a witch HAS to have lipstick, right?) and said the immortal words 'I'm not sure I approve of all that make-up' Its begun!

Not so fun though..I took dd2 to HV today. She's actually lost weight since 3 weeks ago, and has gone up to 75th on height but down to 9th centile on weight They aren't happy with the gap between the two, IYSWIM. Am under instructions to feed fatty foods, but problem is that she's got the runs (8 poos per day, at least) as of yesterday - along wtih streaming cold - and is off her food, and sicky from reflux/cough to boot. Given that she's teething, and constantly under viral attack from dd1's nursery viruses, what on earth can I do?! She's also so active that calories are burning at fater rate...maybe that part of it, hope so. She was supposed to have a flu jab on Friday - due to the larynx issues - but I'm going to postpone it.

I think its my turn to be group worry-wart

I also think I need to order AWBS's book (thank you!) to balance my life out a bit...though boots might help too, am with you on that one, Castles...

jabberwocky · 01/11/2007 01:48

I want a new bra too!!!! I have finally stopped leaking (well, almost) so I think I can get away with a bra that has just a bit of padding and no more nursing pads [hsmile]

Gloria, it does sound like he will skip the crawling stage completely. Isn't it interesting how they all do it just a little differently?

bp, I hope the tummy bug stays on your side of the pond

eli, will she eat things like mashed avocado? Lots of calories and fat there I think. Is there a different type of formula you can give her? I know it must be worrying but since she does have lots of energy maybe this is just normal for her. Being tall and thin is every woman's dream, isn't it?

Very of the boots. I think my dh would be more likely to get a pair for me if I said I never wanted another child instead of the reverse. Anyway, milk it for all your worth castles!!

babypowder · 01/11/2007 08:01

Uurgh. My turn for the dreaded bug. This is when I wish most that I had family near me. The thought of getting DD1 off to school and then entertaining DD2 all day is filling me with dread.

weirdbird · 01/11/2007 11:01

Awww BP you have my heartfelt sympathies.

Another one here who desperately needs some new bras, but I really need a new nursing bra and just can't justify buying one when I am hoping to stop soon! Having said that now I will probably end up feeding her till shes 2

We survived Halloween, I have never gotten over kids vandalising my parents house cause they didnt give them a treat, it was very very scary as an 8 yr old. Am sad that it is becoming more popular.

Am still dying, sound terrible, coughing up my lungs sounds really lovely Am so sick of being ill, its all I have done for the last month.

Any suggestions for things to boost my imune system?

OP posts:
weirdbird · 01/11/2007 11:06

Eli - I have some decent black lipstick I could send you! (Ex-Goth here) Please post some photos up!

We can worry about weight together! I have been buying anything I think might tempt her appetite, the good news is she does seem to be throwing up less with the increased dodage of medication and although she is coughing lots still only seems to be bringing up handfuls worth, and yes I have gotten quite good at catching it! Do you think thats one to add to my CV?

OP posts:
Elibean · 01/11/2007 11:07

((bp)) and ((wb)) get well soon...I bet Castles has some homeopathic tips for immune systems? Me, I only know sunshine and rest and fat chance of those
but a good laugh is supposed to do magic things for immune systems too...whatever makes you giggle inanely...and feeling irresponsible works for me, too...

Jabber, thanks, avocado good idea - is it ok with the runs, do you think? She had some fromage frais for breakfast, followed by exploding nappy-up-the-back, so am still biding my time for true fatty French cooking type stuff. She probably is just tall and thin - I'm not used to long thin babies, dd1 wasn't one. I'd just like some reserves on her for the winter...touch of the French/Jewish mother here...

Elibean · 01/11/2007 11:09

x post

WB, what dosage does your dd take of meds? Wondering if we need to up ours. Thanks, maybe we can dream up some fattening recipes together...without over-tasting them of course...

FieryGlassSlipper · 01/11/2007 11:52

eli - add proper butter to anything you cook for DD. This will bump the calories/fat without much effort.

castlesintheair · 01/11/2007 13:29

WB, I've heard taking echinachea (sp?) is good for boosting immunity re colds etc.

This is what DS took for recent bout of tonsilitis/ear infection (which he always needs ABs for): Hep Sulph 30c for infection & Belladonna 30c for pain. He was better in 24 hours. He's currently being treated "constitutionally" to avoid future attacks. Still a bit of a sceptic about alternative stuff, but imo, anything is worth a shot to avoid ABs/build up immunity.

The homeopath also suggested:

Chamomilla 30c for teething, diarrhoea < Eli, worth a go for DD2?>

Pulsatilla 30c for colds that lead to ear ache & clearing up catarrh/inflammations etc

Aconite 30c for croupy (type) cough. WB???

Belladonna 30c for burning up high temperatures

Was also told that we should let our children be ill (not seriously of course) and dosing them up with Calpol/Neurofen/Medised every time they sneeze suppresses their immunity. Also fever is crucial to the body's success in fighting infections as it wipes out micro-organisms before they proliferate to full-blown illness. She accordingly told me only to give DS calpol etc if his temperature rose over 40c. Interesting stuff and to me, quite sensible.

Eli, can you just stuff DD2 with bananas? Add an extra scoop of formula to bottles? Fwiw, my DD2 is also very long and lean. Can't tell you percentiles as I haven't had her weighed since she was about 8 weeks. Definitely both future supermodels though Let me know if you need a hand with anything, I can be in your manor in no time.

castlesintheair · 01/11/2007 13:33

Eli, if you are interested I can give you the name of the woman I saw as she is based in Kew. She also recommended I take DS to a cranial osteopath (also in Kew). Haven't got that far yet! Might also be an option for DD2?

Indith · 01/11/2007 15:23

Boots are good! I have a new pair of Rocket Dogs

Now that ds is feeding twice a day am also back into my old bras with a hint of . New bras were purchased in France the holiday I fell pg so didn't exactly get much use out of them and they are very nice but the is due to them being considerable less full and cleavage like without all my milk production!

Well done baby Gloria on spending a night away! Big milestone in my book

Eli I'm sure the good French cooking is full of good fatty stuff. If she is going to be thin they she will be. Friend's dd is way taller than ds but much lighter, think she is pretty much off the bottom of the charts for weight. Always has been like that.

Jean Johnson is up there with the best for a good bit of smut Not read those (must work out a way to get them without dp finding out, I would not live it down!) but have read some of her, erm, shall we say unpublished work.

Very of new slings Jabber!

AQ have you looked at www.slingmeet.co.uk/ to see if there are any meets near you? I went to a Durham one last week and have a shiny Mei Tai to play with from the sling library until the next meet.

FieryGlassSlipper · 01/11/2007 20:31

Dont be too envious of my lovely new bra

Indith · 01/11/2007 21:26
FieryGlassSlipper · 01/11/2007 21:46

I'd love to be smaller

DD2 got her 3rd tooth today! One of her top ones but not in the middle iykwim. I checked and there are 3 up there ready to come very soon which explains recent grumpiness. She now has DD1's cough though, and so do I

Elibean · 01/11/2007 21:53

I bought a new bra in M&S today, sounds very dull but it actually FITS which is wonderful.

Bananas and buttery stuff being offered in heaps, but dd2 is on 4th day of the runs and is not interested in eating much at all of anything. Except formula. Do you really think adding extra scoop of formula would be ok, Castles? I'm tempted to do that. She's full of beans in herself, but pale faced, baggy eyed, and knackered looking. GP tomorrow, I think - am sure its just a bug, but won't hurt: kids usually get better the minute you take 'em to the doctor, so will probably cure her.

dd1 also off her food, and dh has an upset stomach, so I suspect we're just viral again

Except me - I had it last weekend (nausea, dizziness, fever) and have regained my appetite: dh took me out for an early dinner to get me out of worried mother mode, and I stuffed myself

Elibean · 01/11/2007 21:55

FGS, have some sympathy from me....we all had the cough thing a couple of weeks ago, urgh.

Congratulations on the teeth, though, am we're still waiting for the top ones which are probably not helping the loss of appetite situation (or the chewing food one, for that matter).

Elibean · 01/11/2007 22:01

Indith and AWBS, I found myself wandering through Hammersmith Broadway shopping centre today, supposedly looking for a swimmning costume, and thinking about your, erm, recommended reading list

I'll never live it down with dh either

Indith and FGS, am of both your bras, come to think of it.

GodzillasHorriblyHairyBumcheek · 01/11/2007 22:02

Omg...i wish dd hadn't got her teeth just just - her sixth is just appearing I don't think it can be appetite, Eli, she's definately not on the chubby side, and is almost growing out of the 9-12 sleepsuits already (another long and lean baby - like her sisters were).

She can't say a single word btw, so i am still very of everyone who has los who can.

accessorizewithbabysick · 01/11/2007 23:19

Yes, but did you buy anything to read down Hammersmith Broadway, Elibean?? Smut, glorious smut! Actually I really like the Jennifer Crusie books because it's losing myself in a completely impractical life where the men are all ruggedly handsome etc. Sigh. I think we all need to escape from reality sometimes and I personally think sex does a wonderful job of boosting your immunity, WB! I think if you've been on antib's (have you?) you maybe need to try to get some prebiotics into you, try Yakult daily maybe? My dietician friend said it's really good stuff!
And hot tea cakes for fgs of course, with lashings of milo, mmmmmm. Everyone feel better soon, hugs from AQ

weirdbird · 02/11/2007 12:40

I watched First Daughter (Rom Com) in bed yeaterday evening while trying to fall asleep (couldn't stop coughing) and ended up dreaming about Marc Blucas, didn't want to wake up this morning

I havn't been on AB's but I think I might be soon
