A new thread for the second half year

yelnats, have you changed your name from something else? I feel ilke I ought to know who you are but don't recognise the name (although I do have a very little brain these days).

Marmitemad, the liquid works well although it does taste nasty! It seems to be doing the job but without so much of a hangover effect in the morning. It knocks me out about an hour after taking it and I sleep very well all night, which is a bonus!

Sallyallyally · 21/08/2007 10:03

FFT...Hatton Country World would be perfect for me. Nice venue.
Gonna have a look at these threads! Sound fascinating.
Happy Birthday to me!!! . Asked for half an hour in the bath with a book later to celebrate!!!!!!!!!!!!!

marmitemad · 21/08/2007 10:04

Moosma - thanks for the good report with the liquid. I have had another bad night here so really need to sort something out. Am having a blood test tomorrow so will try and see a dr then. I thought the same about yelnats.

Well we seem to have had a breakthrough with spoon feeding this morning. dd was actively opening her mouth for me to feed her baby rice although she did have her own spoon as well and she didn't seem to spit out too much either. I am still finding it a bit of a palaver compared to self feeding/finger food but that is proving very messy (new pic on profile if anyone is interested).

marmitemad · 21/08/2007 10:05

Happy birthday Sallyallyally - 30min in the bath with a book sounds wonderful, I only get to have baths with dd now with is not quite the same.

peachygirl · 21/08/2007 16:53

happy birthday sallyallyally.

Bienchen · 21/08/2007 17:00

Happy Birthday Sallyallyally!!!

SmudgeMum · 21/08/2007 21:50

Hope I'm not too late Sallyally - Happy Birthday. Did you enjoy your half hour in the bath and manage not to get your book too wet? Last Sat morning, I decided to have a bath after putting DS down for his sleep. Had thought that as DH was around, he could get him when he squawked - DS decided to sleep for 1.5 hours naturally so I gave up staying in the bath as I was turning into a prune!! How do they know
I'm doing a combo of finger foods and purees. Dom seems to get quite upset when he's hungry and feeding himself isn't working well and then he just screams so I've been doing some spooning in. We did try cinnamon eggy bread for breakfast this am and he wolfed it down!
I know what you mean about some of the threads and that people seem to jump down each others throats. I lurk quite a bit and I seem to see the same names over and over so I guess there is usally a fair bit of history behind some of the nastiness. Like someone else said, it seems a bit OTT when it's all on t'internet. Sometimes best to stick to safe places like this thread!
I don't think I'm going to fit in any of the meet ups. I had thought about squeezing into the Midlands one if we could arrange to visit friends but it's just not going to happen
Good luck with the sleeping everyone!

yelnats · 21/08/2007 22:55

I was originally Leahsmum. I name changed after dd2 was born to LandSmum and then thought it better to get another new name altogether. Sorry - I thought I had let you lot know I had changed my name.

Happy Birthday Sallyallyally!!

MoosMa · 21/08/2007 23:44

Happy birthday Sallyallyally (well, 17 minutes of it anyway)!

Sallyallyally · 22/08/2007 12:58

How do you make cinnamon eggy bread? Sounds lovely.
DH had to work until 9:30 last night in the end so no bath! . Then both kids decided not to sleep. Whoopee!!!
Therefore, like the Queen, I have been granted a further birthday at the weekend!!!
Fingers crossed.

Bienchen · 22/08/2007 19:02

SAA - fingers crossed for the weekend!

Midlands Meet-up looks like Hatton is a good bet. Any ideas re dates? Or is it easier to come up with dates you can't make?

andyrobo237 · 22/08/2007 19:07

Happy belated birthday Sallyallyally!

Well it is all go here - weaning going well - purees and the odd bit of finger food - rolling all over the place and is fascinated with the fireplace - led to a bumped head and a big cry - but DH says we dont need a fireguard as they are ugly! I am favouring a BabyDan playpen thing - need to see how much space they take up when folded - luckily we have a factory shop about 45 miles away where thing are at least 1/3 off! So will show DH it in the Mothercare catalogue then phone them up to see how much it is there!

Got a new pushchair this week but I did sell my M&P pramette on Ebay - made £80 and then spent £52 on this one!! It is a Loola - quite heavy but he looks more comfy in it and it is rear facing! I liked the pramette but he was rolling over in it and trying to pull himself up and he was filling it lengthways! It is a good pushchair for when they are forward facing, so I will buy another one or a Jane Carrera when he is about 15 months! Havent told DH yet!!!! Will probably only keep this one for 6 months or so! I know only have 3 - my three wheeler which we use on hols as it is compact in the car and has air tyres, my ICandy Cherry which I got for the school run and will still use until he outgrows the Maxi Cosi Cabriofix seat! I am a Pramaholic I know, but at least I am buying secondhand so it is technically not costing me anything apart from the initial one I bought for my DD 5 years ago (at least that is how I justif it to myself!)

andyrobo237 · 22/08/2007 19:07

Doh dont know what happened then!

peachygirl · 22/08/2007 20:02

HI all I've sent this as an email but am posting it too, so anyone else who is in the area can join us

Here are the final arrangemnt for the london meet up
I vote we meet at 11:15 - 1130am In Waterloo station outside Monsoon which is just next to the lift to Waterloo east.
We can check out the weather and if it's nce we can picnic courtesy of M and S and if its raining find a nice place to eat.
Hopefully this will be OK with everyone.

A lovely day for us in Bluewater. Dh got new jeans, I got pink crocs!

The loola's look good andyrobo but I think they are heavy.. I could potentially become a buggy addict but DH won't let me!

SmudgeMum · 22/08/2007 21:27

Have a lovely Birthday weekend then Sallyally - how many days do you think you make it last for?
Listening to your pramism (like alcohol???) Andyrobo, makes me because I'm soo not into them. I reckon I'm probably best not to look into all the different kinds on offer just in case. We bought our 3-wheeler second hand and are really pleased with it and a friend of DH found a Maclaren in the loft of his new house and gave it to us so we're pretty much sorted.
Cinnamon eggy bread Sallyally is just like normal eggy bread but sprinkle some cinnamon into the egg/milk mixture first. I sliced up a fairly large white bread roll for DS as it made good hand sized pieces. He had baked beans and chesse on toast for lunch today and that was a success too. You know how 'they' always say that your baby will tell you when they've had enough? I reckon DS would keep eating until he popped! Anyway, DH just looked over and said " are you really expecting people to read all of that" so I suppose I better stop now. Sorry

peachygirl · 24/08/2007 20:39

Hi all it's been a bit quiet here.... tumble weed blows past.
We're OK, lunch out today and a few purchases for DD's autumn wardrobe. DH complained about too much pink so I took some trousers back and swapped them for blue ones and got some blue/ beige tops! She doesn't fit in anything yet but I like to be prepared especially as she will have to take spare clothes to the childminder.

Bienchen · 27/08/2007 19:15

Hello ... gosh this is quiet....

surely a sign of a good BH weekend.

Midlands meet up - can you give me dates/preferences pls. You can email me: bienchen at hotmail dot co dot uk

suzi2 · 27/08/2007 21:35

I'm struggling to get on here at the moment as DH is away and I'm having the most awful evenings and nights with DS and DD! I'm up and down the stairs to see to one of them about every 20 mins and DD is still awake a few times in the night anyway. DS was grouchy last night and kept waking and eventually came into bed beside me... and woke me by trying to draw on my face with a biro he found! DD still isn't settling at all and I'm thankful we can bounce her in the hammock as I have no other ways to deal with her really. She's up A LOT and is constantly overtired.

I met Suis last week and it was very nice. Sandy is MASSIVE (sorry, keep saying it and I know you'll be fed up hearing it!) and such gorgeous wee guy. He's a seriously good sitter too!

Speaking of sitting, how is everyone's LOs getting on? DD is 28wks now and can sit leaning on her hands for a minute or so but rarelywants to. She tends to flop to one side or the other, catch herself on the way down and then use it as an opportunity for shuffling around the floor on her belly. She's rolling and shuffling very efficiently now and can easily move accross the floor, so I'm wondering if that's why she isn't concentrating on learning to sit? DS sat at 5 months but didn't crawl/roll until much later so this way around is confusing me a bit!

OP posts:
yelnats · 27/08/2007 22:13

Suzi sounds like fun with all that shuffling! DD2 is sitting really good now has been for a few weeks - I think she is desperate to get on the move too as she cant sit at peace for 2 mins without reaching out for something and then getting frustrated if she cant reach it!

Is anyone back at work yet? I am due back next week and am really dreading it! I am still bf'ing and she has been refusing a bottle from me so hopefully she will manage all right and take one from my mum or will just need to survive without on the days that I am at work.

forgottenfreetime · 28/08/2007 15:24

Hi I've been really busy tidying up the house and flat because we had people staying over the BH weekend. DH is really messy and useless at helping so it took the entire week! We also got a new carpet for the stairs which I am soo pleased about. We decorated last summer so the old one had paint on as we new we wouldn't keep it and this looks so much better.
DD is sitting with a little help at the hips and can only manage a few seconds on her own. She manages to move from where I lie her down but this is a bit random really. I've been noticing a few better nights since weaning but as yet nothing consistent. She'll be six months next week, can't believe it's gone so quickly!
On the bf front, she still won't take formula, only expressed breastmilk so that'll be a pain if it's still the case in Oct when I go back to work. She won't take a bottle from me or my dad but my mum has had success when I've not been there so hopefully will be ok. I've been hoping that weaning would mean that she will start to like the taste of formula too but we'll just have to see....
Will email you later, Bienchen re meet up

forgottenfreetime · 28/08/2007 15:25

Just a thought suzi, and maybe won't work at night cos you have ds, but have you tried the vacuum cleaner for getting dd to sleep? Worked a treat for my dd the other day when she was grumpy.

Sallyallyally · 28/08/2007 22:00

Hello. Just come back from a BH break sailing! Will post pics in the next few days! All went fab. Henry has learnt to pull himself up to standing...DD didn't do this till about 8 or 9 months so I think he's a bit early. Very strong like his dad..big shoulders!! However in his determination has managed to fall over about 300 times, not made easier by the fact that he started whilst on the boat so floor was already rocking!
Had a bit of a nightmare journey home. Car got flat tyre, road was shut for roadworks and Henry screamed solidly for 3/4 hour (but seemed like longer!) and only stopped when I sang twinkle twinkle little star over and over. DD and DH were nearly screaming by end of it as I'm not renowned for my dulcet tones! Glad to be home...4 hour journey instead of 2 and a bit!
Nice to be back....I've brought you all sticks of rock from the seaside ...perhaps the long list of E numbers will help those stay awake who aren't getting much sleep!!! (me included)x

babydriver · 28/08/2007 22:11

Hi, we're back from our hols in Denmark, and I've finally found time to skim the threads from the last few weeks. Glad to hear the babies all seem to be thriving, if not sleeping!

We had a great time away, castles, beaches, lazing around etc. BLW was great for DS2 - I just gave him a handful of whatever was available when we were eating together so didn't have to worry about faffing with jars, blenders etc. He clearly loved sitting at the table with everyone, stuffing courgettes & rice cakes and things into his chops.

Now we're back, I'm increasing the amount of solids he has, as he seems really keen. Today he had half an apple & rice puree and half a slice of toast for breakfast, a banana for lunch, and polenta and carrot sticks for dinner. Doing mostly finger foods but also aiming to spoon feed a bit for variety.

Sitting up pretty well - doesn't want to lie down any more. Our main prob is that he's got used to having lots of attention during the holiday but now we're back, there's only me and his brother so he's been a bit grumpy.

Right, better shut up now, this post's not intended to be two weeks' worth!!

peachygirl · 28/08/2007 22:17

Hi welcome back everyone. DD is sitting quite well, a bit of wobbling and she is also doing quite a lot of shuffling on the floor.
If there is any paper on the floor she will make a bee line for it. We are having to start baby proofing.
We have just bought a door bouncer I've held off so far but today I met firends and they all said how much their babies loved them
